The spike architecture of wheat plays a crucial role in determining grain number,making it a key trait for optimization in wheat breeding *** this study,we used a multi-omic approach to analyze the transcriptome and epigenome profiles of the young spike at eight developmental stages,revealing co-ordinated changes in chromatin accessibility and H3K27me3 abundance during the flowering *** constructed a core transcriptional regulatory network(TRN)that drives wheat spike formation and experimentally validated a multi-layer regulatorymodule involving TaSPL15,TaAGLG1,and *** integrating the TRN with genome-wide association studies,we identified 227 transcription factors,including 42 with known functions and 185 with unknown *** investigation of 61 novel transcription factors using multiple homozygous mutant lines revealed 36 transcription factors that regulate spike architecture or flowering time,such as TaMYC2-A1,TaMYB30-A1,and *** particular interest,TaMYB30-A1,downstream of and repressed by WFzP,was found to regulate fertile spikelet ***,the excellent haplotype of TaMYB30-A1,which contains a C allele at the WFzP binding site,was enriched during wheat breeding improvement in China,leading to improved agronomic ***,we constructed a free and open access Wheat Spike Multi-omic Database(http://39.***.48.156:8800/#/).our study identifies novel and high-confidence regulators and offers an effective strategy for dissecting the genetic basis of wheat spike development,with practical value forwheat breeding.

Evaluation of Human Impacts on Bartlett Pond Ecosystem, Laredo, Southern Texas, USA, through Empirical Modeling

The trace elements chemistry of Bartlett Pond, a small shallow wetland pond in Laredo, Southern Texas, was sampled to evaluate the dynamics of trace elements impacts on water quality and ecosystems ecology of the pond. Two types of fish (bass and tilapia) were also sampled to see the trace element accumulation in different parts of their body. The concentrations of trace elements in water samples were found in the following order: Fe ≫Sb > Pb > As ≫Co > Tl > Cr > Cd within Bartlett Pond. overall, the water quality of the pond is unacceptable for drinking and any other purposes as trace element concentrations (e.g. As, Cd, Co, Cr, Pb, Fe, Sb and Tl) are exceedingly higher (several fold) than the WHo and US EPA guidelines. Predictive and correlation analysis shows that most trace elements exhibit a strong positive correlation among them indicating the same anthropogenic sources and biogeochemical processes regulate these trace elements within the pond. Distributions of the trace elements in water exhibit different shapes mostly as positively skewed distribution for As, Cd, Co, Cr, and Tl, symmetrical distribution for Fe and almost symmetrical distribution for Pb and Sb. Concentrations of As, Co and Tl accumulated much higher in different parts of the Bass than Tilapia fish. The concentrations of As, Tl, Co, and Sb appeared significantly higher in different parts of the body of both Bass and Tilapia than the maximum SRM certified values. Accumulation of these contaminants in fish tissues pose increased health risks to humans who consume these contaminated fish although fishing is prohibited. Anthropogenic activities in the region primarily degrade the whole pond ecosystem ecology of the Bartlett Pond and waters of this pond to be not recommended for any use. These findings may be useful for the scientific community and concerned authorities to improve understanding about these precious natural resources and conservation of the ecosystem ecology.

Grain yield is a highly polygenic trait that is influenced by the environment and integrates events throughout the life cycle of a plant. In wheat, the major grain yield components often present compensatory effects among them, which alongside the polyploid nature of wheat,makes their genetic and physiological study challenging. We propose a reductionist and systematic approach as an initial step to understand the gene networks regulating each individual yield component. Here, we focus on grain weight and discuss the importance of examining individual subcomponents, not only to help in their genetic dissection, but also to inform our mechanistic understanding of how they interrelate. This knowledge should allow the development of novel combinations, across homoeologs and between complementary modes of action, thereby advancing towards a more integrated strategy for yield improvement. We argue that this will break barriers in terms of phenotypic variation,enhance our understanding of the physiology of yield, and potentially deliver improved on-farm yield.

A species introduction experiment including several tropical pines and eucalypts was established in 1966/1967 in the Tchianga research station in Angolan Highlands. Despite 27 years of political conflict （1975-2002） and lack of management, the research experiment has remained relatively well conserved. We measured the best conserved plots that were 41 years old in 2007 to obtain information on the growth of different pine species. We calculated stand characteristics including basal area, dominant height, mean diameter, and stand volume for Pinus patula Schiede ex Schiltdl. Et Cham., Pinus pseudostrobus Lindl., Pinus kesiya Royle ex Gordon, Pinus devoniana Lindl., Pinus chiapensis （Martinez） Andresen, Pinus elliottii Engelm., Pinus greggii Engelm. Ex Parl., Pinus montezumae Lamb. and Pinus oocarpa Schiede ex Schltdl. The growing stock volume at 41 years was the highest in P. pseudostrobus, 1,325 m3^· ha^-1, followed by P. kesiya with 1,200 m^3· ha^-1. The widely planted P. patula had growing stock volume of 892 m^3· ha-^1. P. oocarpa and P. pseudostrobus had the highest stand basal area, over 80 m^2·ha^-1. Using increment core analyses we studied the temporal development of stand characteristics. Analysis of the mean annual increment （MAI） showed that rotation lengths of 20-30 years would maximize wood production. With these rotation lengths, the MAI of P. pseudostrobus would be 35 m^3· ha^-1. other productive species were P. kesiya, P. ooearpa and P. chiapensis. P. patula had a maximum MAI of 20 m^3· ha^-1. P. greggii had the lowest mean annual volume production, only about 13 m^3· ha^-1.

Parallel computing has become an important subject in the field of computer science and has proven to be critical when researching high performance *** evolution of computer architectures(multi-core and many-core)towards a higher number of cores can only confirm that parallelism is the method of choice for speeding up an *** the last decade,the graphics processing unit,or GPU,has gained an important place in the field of high performance computing(HPC)because of its low cost and massive parallel processing ***-computing has become,for the first time,available to anyone at the price of a desktop *** this paper,we survey the concept of parallel computing and especially GPU *** efficient parallel algorithms for the GPU is not a trivial task,there are several technical restrictions that must be satisfied in order to achieve the expected *** of these limitations are consequences of the underlying architecture of the GPU and the theoretical models behind *** goal is to present a set of theoretical and technical concepts that are often required to understand the GPU and its massive parallelism *** particular,we show how this new technology can help the field of computational physics,especially when the problem is *** present four examples of computational physics problems;n-body,collision detection,Potts model and cellular automata *** examples well represent the kind of problems that are suitable for GPU *** understanding the GPU architecture and its massive parallelism programming model,one can overcome many of the technical limitations found along the way,design better GPU-based algorithms for computational physics problems and achieve speedups that can reach up to two orders of magnitude when compared to sequential implementations.
