Nestling growth of birds can be affected by weather *** general,it is expected that higher temper-atures favor growth by improving food availability and nestling metabolism,while rain hinders it by reducing foraging ***,most of these patterns have been described in insectivorous cavity-nesting birds in temperate *** tested these predictions in two neotropical grassland ground-nesting birds with contrasting nestling diets and therefore potentially different responses to *** measured nestlings of the Hellmayr’s Pipit(Anthus hellmayri,an insectivorous passerine)and the Grassland Yellow-Finch(Sicalis luteola,which feeds its nestlings exclusively with seeds)during three breeding seasons(2017-2020)in central-eastern *** took measurements of tarsus and body mass,modeled growth curves using nonlinear mixed-effects models,and evaluated the effects of minimum daily temperature and precipitation during the growth period and the 30 days prior to *** pipits(60 nestlings from 21 nests),minimum temperatures during the growth period were positively associated with tarsus and body mass ***,there was a positive association between precipitation during the pre-hatching period and tarsus ***,none of the weather variables analyzed had significant effects on nestling growth of finches(131 nestlings from 35 nests).Dietary contrast between species may explain the different *** activity and abundance can be affected by weather variations within the span of a breeding season,whereas seeds may depend on conditions from previous years,making the effects harder to *** with reduced asymptotic size can have reduced chances of ***,pipit populations could be impacted if they experience cold and dry conditions during their breeding season,which is of major relevance in the current context of climate change.

Constructed wetlands(CwW)are well known nature-based systems for water *** study evaluated the efficiency and effectiveness of seven domestic wastewater treatment systems based on horizontal flow CWs in Jarabacoa,the Dominican *** results showed that the CWs were efficient in reducing the degree of contamination of wastewater to levels below the Dominican wastewater discharge standards for parameters such as the 5-day biochemical oxygen demand(BOD5)and chemical oxygen demand,but not for the removal of phosphorus and fecal *** addition,a horizontal flow subsurface wetland in the peri-urban area El Dorado was evaluated in terms of the performance of wastewater treatment in tropical climatic *** concentrations of heavy metals,such as zinc,copper,chromium,and iron,were found to decrease in the effluent of the wetland,and the concentrations for nickel and manganese tended to *** levels of heavy metals in the effluent were lower than the limit values of the Dominican wastewater discharge *** construction cost of these facilities was around 200 USD per population equivalent,similar to the cost in other countries in the same *** study suggested some solutions to the improved performance of CWs:selection of a microbial flora that guarantees the reduction of nitrates and nitrites to molecular nitrogen,use of endemic plants that bioaccumulate heavy metals,combination of constructed wetlands with filtration on activated carbon,and inclusion of water purification processes that allow to evaluate the reuse of treated water.

Stable isotope analysis is a widely used method for gathering ecological insights into the diet and feeding habitats of various species. While captive studies often limit lethal sampling and differ from wild conditions, they offer valuable insights into inherent isotopic variations among individuals, which are often assumed to reflect differences between natural populations. In the Sea Turtle Conservation Program, loggerhead turtle hatchlings from different nests were fed. Necropsies were conducted on turtles that died during this period, obtaining bone fragments for analysis. We evaluated the isotopic variation of carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) in bone tissue across six turtle nests (n = 66 samples) and assessed differences in Straight Carapace Length (SCL, n = 71 samples). Using SIBER and nicheROVER in R, we calculated niche width and overlap, while the simmr package determined primary prey assimilation. Despite feeding the hatchlings the same prey, we observed variations in nitrogen isotope assimilation between nests. Nests 4 and 6 had a niche width >1.8‰, indicating consistent consumption frequencies across all prey and >70% niche overlap with other nests. In contrast, nests 1 and 2 showed a narrower niche width (Mugil sp. constituted the primary diet component (>40%) across all groups. This study demonstrates how factors like competition or prey preference can influence the assimilation of diet, even when the source remains constant (inherent variation).

The so-called "metabolic syndrome"(MS),constitutes a cluster of metabolic and cardiovascular abnormalities,including fasting glucose,blood pressure,triglycerides,high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),and waist circumference that arise from insulin resistance. Obstructive sleep apnea(OSA) syndrome is characterized by recurrent episodes of partial or complete obstruction of the upper airway,involving cessation or significant decreased airflow,with intermittent hypoxemia,frequent arousals from sleep and recurrent oxyhemoglobin desaturations that interfere with normal sleep patterns generating difficulty falling asleep,unrefreshing sleep and loud snoring. The relation between these two entities is known as "Syndrome Z",and there is no question about the impact of these risk factors on health and disease. This clinical condition presents a growing epidemic Worldwide,affecting approximately 60% of the general population with both MS and OSA due to the constant increase of body mass index in humans. This article presents evidence-based data that focuses on the direct relationship between MS and OSA.

本研究的主要目的是评估成立一家新公司并引入全新的“香水定期订购”商业模式到美国香水产业的可行性。本研究对策略性决定做了各种不同的批判性分析,以确保新公司的成功并获取盈利。本项目假设部分消费者群体(即潜在客户群)希望拥有不同的香水用于不同的场合,但又不想购买整支瓶装香水。但根据当前香水产业的模式,消费者不得不购买50、75、100和200毫升标准容量的整支瓶装香水,因此,如果要在家里贮备不同的香水,需要花费很多的钱。本项目的基本构思是在美国成立一家新公司,为客户提供“香水定期订购”服务,客户只需按月付费,公司就会给他们提供一盒小瓶装(10毫升)香水套装。公司会根据客户的需要提供不同的订购方式,订金则根据客户每月希望收到的香水的数量来决定。为了实施这个项目,我们首先从香水产业开始,了解当前产业中的主要品牌,细分方式、销售渠道及在美国市场的统计数据。然后,我们研究了文献,综述了所有相关的及对我们项目有用的文献,如关于定期订购的商业模式、感官营销学及香水产业等的文献,确保我们已彻底了解产业现况。此外,我们使用了现今工商管理学科中一些知名的工具、概念、模型及架构,对产业进行了批判性分析,这一切都帮助我们制定最适合的策略以使项目获得成功。市场研究方面,我们使用了定性分析及定量分析,例如特定人群研究、网上问卷调查、深入访谈法、神秘购物以及标杆分析等方法,确定了在消费者需求与市场供应中间存在差距,我们的商业模式具有潜在的市场。通过对研究结果进行分析,我们识别出对我们的商业理念感兴趣的对象、他们的需求及喜好,吸引他们关注我们商业项目的最佳途径。最后,通过预测潜在营业收入、投资金额和成本以及财务分析,我们看到企业会在营运第三年的首月达到收支平衡点,并且根据净现值和内部收益率的计算,运营情况会是比较乐观的。加之初期投入合理可行,我们认为可以承担此风险。综上所述,根据本研究所提供的资料以及大量的研究与分析所掌握的知识,我们认为此项目是完全可行的,并且建议尽快落实执行,以防他人捷足先登。

Thermally induced refractive index gratings in Yb-doped fibers lead to transverse mode instability(TMI)above an average power threshold,which represents a severe problem for many *** obtain a deeper understanding of TMI,the evolution of the strength of the thermally induced refractive index grating with the average output power in a fiber amplifier is experimentally investigated for the first *** investigation is performed by introducing a phase shift between the refractive index grating and modal interference pattern,which is obtained by applying a pump power variation to the fiber *** is demonstrated that the refractive index grating is sufficiently strong to enable modal energy coupling at powers that are significantly below the TMI threshold if the induced phase shift is sufficiently *** experiments indicate that at higher powers,the refractive index grating becomes more sensitive to such phase shifts,which will ultimately trigger ***,the experimental results demonstrate beam cleaning above the TMI threshold via the introduction of a positive phase *** finding paves the way for the development of a new class of mitigation strategies for TMI that are based on controlling the phase shift between the thermally induced refractive index grating and modal interference pattern.

We selectively excite and study two new types of phonon-polariton guided modes that are found in hexagonal boron nitride thin flakes on a gold *** modes show substantially improved confinement and a group velocity that is hundreds of times slower than the speed of light,thereby providing a new way to create slow light in the midinfrared range with a simple structure that does not require *** mode is the fundamental mode in the first Restrahlen band of hexagonal boron nitride thin crystals on a gold substrate;the other mode is equivalent to the second mode of the second Restrahlen band of hexagonal boron nitride flakes that are suspended in *** new modes also couple efficiently with incident light at the hexagonal boron nitride edges,as we demonstrate experimentally using photo-induced force microscopy and scanning near-field optical *** high confinement of these modes allows for Purcell factors that are on the order of tens of thousands directly above boron nitride and a wide band,with new perspectives for enhanced light-matter *** findings demonstrate a new approach to engineering the dispersion of polaritons in 2D materials to improve confinement and light-matter interaction,thereby paving the way for new applications in mid-infrared nano-optics.
