Compelling evidence supports the crucial role of the receptor for advanced glycation end-products(RAGE)axis activation in many clinical *** the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic,there is an increasing concern about the risk and handling of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection in inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders,such as inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD).However,clinical data raised during pandemic suggests that IBD patients do not have an increased risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2 infection or develop a more severe course of *** the present review,we intend to highlight how two potentially important contributors to the inflammatory response to SARS-CoV-2 infection in IBD patients,the RAGE axis activation as well as the cross-talk with the renin-angiotensin system,are dampened by the high expression of soluble forms of both RAGE and the angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE)*** soluble form of RAGE functions as a decoy for its ligands,and soluble ACE2 seems to be an additionally attenuating contributor to RAGE axis activation,particularly by avoiding the transactivation of the RAGE axis that can be produced by the virus-mediated imbalance of the ACE/angiotensin II/angiotensin II receptor type 1 pathway.

Remote sensing and climate digital products have become increasingly available in recent *** to these products has favored a variety of Digital Earth studies,such as the analysis of the impact of global warming over different *** study of the Amazon forest response to drought has recently received particular attention from the scientific community due to the occurrence of extreme droughts and anomalous warming over the last *** paper focuses on the differences observed between surface thermal anomalies obtained from remote sensing moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS)and climatic(ERA-Interim)monthly products over the Amazon *** a few exceptions,results show that the spatial pattern of standardized anomalies is similar for both *** terms of absolute anomalies,the differences between the two products show a bias near to zero with a standard deviation of around 0.2 K,although the differences can be up to 1 K over particular regions and *** this general agreement,the proper filtering of MODIS daily values in order to construct a new monthly product showed a dramatic reduction in the number of reliable pixels during the rainy season,while for the dry season this reduction is only seen in Northern Amazonia.

Objective:To evaluate the accuracy of our new three-dimensional(3D)automatic augmented reality(AAR)system guided by artificial intelligence in the identification of tumour’s location at the level of the preserved neurovascular bundle(NVB)at the end of the extirpative phase of nerve-sparing robot-assisted radical ***:In this prospective study,we enrolled patients with prostate cancer(clinical stages cT1ce3,cN0,and cM0)with a positive index lesion at target biopsy,suspicious for capsular contact or extracapsular extension at preoperative multiparametric magnetic resonance *** underwent robot-assisted radical prostatectomy at San Luigi Gonzaga Hospital(Orbassano,Turin,Italy),from December 2020 to December *** the end of extirpative phase,thanks to our new AAR artificial intelligence driven system,the virtual prostate 3D model allowed to identify the tumour’s location at the level of the preserved NVB and to perform a selective excisional biopsy,sparing the remaining portion of the *** and postoperative data were evaluated,especially focusing on the positive surgical margin(PSM)rates,potency,continence recovery,and biochemical ***:Thirty-four patients were *** 15(44.1%)cases,the target lesion was in contact with the prostatic capsule at multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging(Wheeler grade L2)while in 19(55.9%)cases extracapsular extension was detected(Wheeler grade L3).3D AAR guided biopsies were negative in all pathological tumour stage 2(pT2)patients while they revealed the presence of cancer in 14 cases in the pT3 cohort(14/16;87.5%).PSM rates were 0%and 7.1%in the pathological stages pT2 and pT3(<3 mm,Gleason score 3),***:With the proposed 3D AAR system,it is possible to correctly identify the lesion’s location on the NVB in 87.5%of pT3 patients and perform a 3D-guided tailored nerve-sparing even in locally advanced diseases,without compromising the oncological safety

In this paper, simulated and experimental results on the conical tank level control are presented. PI/PID controllers of integer order （IO） as well as of fractional order （FO） are studied and compared. The tuning parameters are obtained first by using root locus （RL） and Ziegler and Nichols methods, for comparison purposes. Next, particle swarm optimization （PSO） is employed to determine the optimal controllers＇ parameters using as fitness function the integral of the absolute value of tracking error （IAE）. From the experimental results it is concluded that PI/FOPI are the controllers presenting the lowest IAE indexes, whereas PID/FOPID controllers present the lowest energy consumption by the control signal.

1 Transcatheter aortic valve implantation in symptomatic severe aortic stenosis: where do we stand? Aortic stenosis occurs in 2%-9% of patients over the age of 65, the most common cause being degenerative.^([1,2]) The preferred treatment in symptomatic severe aortic stenosis(SAS) is surgical aortic valve replacement(SAVR), but in the elderly, the surgical risk can be greater than the benefit.([3]).

The aim of this work was to study effects of ketotifen fumarate(KF)on prevention of tissue damage in testes of rats with experimental autoimmune orchitis(EAO)and on the contralateral testis in a model of prolonged testicular cord torsion(TCT).Rats with EAO or TCT were injected intraperitoneally once daily with KF or saline solution(vehicle group).Incidence and severity of testicular damage were evaluated by histopathology using an EAO score or a Johnsen *** cells(MC)were identified by histochemistry and *** EAO model,KF significantly reduced severity of histopathological testicular damage compared to rats in the vehicle *** also reduced the number of testicular MC compared to vehicle ***,in TCT model,multifocal damage of the contralateral testis was observed 30 days after testicular torsion characterized by sloughing of the germinal epithelium,seminiferous tubule atrophy,and interstitial *** signs of inflammation and fibrosis of seminiferous tubular walls were also *** contrast,sections of contralateral testis of rats injected with KF and killed 30 days after surgery showed normal histological features.A significant decrease in the number of MC was observed in rats treated with KF compared to untreated *** conclusion,we demonstrated that treatment with KF reduced testicular inflammatory process and MC infiltrates in both EAO and TCT *** results suggest a promising treatment for infertile male patients with testicular pathologies associated with inflammation and germ cell loss.

The analysis and design of the extended state observer （ESO） involves a continuous non-smooth structure, thus the study of the ESO dynamic requires mathematical tools of the nonlinear systems analysis. This paper establishes the sufficient conditions for absolute stability of the ESO. Based on this study, a methodology to estimate several nonlinear functions in dy- namics systems is proposed.

As colon cancer is among the top causes of death, there is a growinginterest in developing improved techniques for the early detection of colonpolyps. Given the close relation between colon polyps and colon cancer,their detection helps avoid cancer cases. The increment in the availability ofcolorectal screening tests and the number of colonoscopies have increasedthe burden on the medical personnel. In this article, the application of deeplearning techniques for the detection and segmentation of colon polyps incolonoscopies is presented. Four techniques were implemented and evaluated:Mask-RCNN, PANet, Cascade R-CNN and Hybrid Task Cascade (HTC).These were trained and tested using CVC-Colon database, ETIS-LARIBPolyp, and a proprietary dataset. Three experiments were conducted to assessthe techniques performance: (1) Training and testing using each databaseindependently, (2) Mergingd the databases and testing on each database independently using a merged test set, and (3) Training on each dataset and testingon the merged test set. In our experiments, PANet architecture has the bestperformance in Polyp detection, and HTC was the most accurate to segmentthem. This approach allows us to employ Deep Learning techniques to assisthealthcare professionals in the medical diagnosis for colon cancer. It is anticipated that this approach can be part of a framework for a semi-automatedpolyp detection in colonoscopies.

The growth of electrical transportation is crucially important to mitigate rising climate change concerns regarding materials *** are high-power devices,particularly suitable for public transportation since they can easily store breaking energy due to their high-rate charging ***,they can function with two carbon electrodes,which is an advantage due to the abundance of carbon in biomass and other waste materials(i.e.,plastic waste).Newly developed supercapacitive nanocarbons display extremely narrow micropores(100 kW kg^(-1)),using fourty times less activating agent than traditionnal chemically activated *** also demonstrate that the affinity between the carbon and the electrolyte is of paramount importance to maintain rapid ionic diffusion in narrow ***,this facile synthesis method shows that low-cost and bio-based free-standing electrode materials with reliable supercapacitive performances can be used in electrochemistry.

Compelling pieces of evidence derived from both clinical and experimental research has demonstrated the crucial role of the receptor for advanced-glycation end-products(RAGE)in orchestrating a plethora of proinflammatory cellular responses leading to many of the complications and end-organ damages reported in patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).During the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,many clinical reports have pointed out that DM increases the risk of COVID-19 complications,hospitalization requirements,as well as the overall severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 case-fatality *** the present review,we intend to focus on how the basal activation state of the RAGE axis in common preexisting conditions in DM patients such as endothelial dysfunction and hyperglycemia-related prothrombotic phenotype,as well as the contribution of RAGE signaling in lung inflammation,may then lead to the increased mortality risk of COVID-19 in these ***,the crosstalk between the RAGE axis with either another severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 receptor molecule different of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 or the renin-angiotensin system imbalance produced by viral infection,as well as the role of this multi-ligand receptor on the obesity-associated lowgrade inflammation in the higher risk for severe illness reported in diabetes patients with COVID-19,are also discussed.
