The Kamchatka Peninsula – situated in the Pacific "Ring of Fire" – has 29 active and over 400 extinct volcanoes. Since it is situated in the northeastern extremity of Russia, in subarctic climate,the volcanic landforms are overprinted by the 446 glaciers. This research focuses on the 1^(st) Mutnaya catchment which drains the southern slopes of two active volcanoes: Avachinsky and Koryaksky. Those volcanoes are a permanent threat for the cities of Petropavlovsk and Elizovo, which are the 2 of 3 cities of the peninsula. Hence, most of the studies carried out in the area dealt with the natural hazards and only few focus on landscape evolution. Thus, the purpose of this study was to elaborate a cartographic approach which integrates classic geomorphology with state of the art GIS and remote sensing techniques. As result,different landforms and related processes have been analysed and included in the first general geomorphologic map of the 1^(st) Mutnaya catchment.

We report on the generation and delivery of 10.2 PW peak power laser pulses,using the High Power Laser System at the Extreme Laser Infrastructure–Nuclear Physics *** this work we demonstrate for the first time,to the best of our knowledge,the compression and propagation of full energy,full aperture,laser pulses that reach a power level of more than 10 PW.

The Relationship between Hypoglycaemic Episodes and Arrhythmias in Type 2 Diabetes Subjects after Acute Myocardial Infarction with ST-Segment Elevation—A Case Series

Background and Aims: Several studies have shown that hypoglycaemia, especially a severe episode is associated with an increased mortality rate in diabetes mellitus subjects with previous cardiovascular disease or acute coronary syndrome. One of the presumed mechanisms is the proarrhythmic effect of hypoglycaemia related to the prolongation of the action potential, or the catecholamine surge that follows an episode. The aim of this case series analysis was to investigate the relationship between hypoglycaemia and glucose variability with arrhythmic events in type 2 diabetes patients who suffered an acute myocardial infarction. Materials and Methods: We selected patients admitted consecutively to the cardiology department of Clinical Emergency Hospital in Bucharest for a period of three months with acute myocardial infarction and previously diagnosed type 2 diabetes. For each patient, a retrospective continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) or glucose sensor (Medtronic® Enlite, USA) and a dual electrocardiograph and blood pressure monitor for 24 hours were available. Also, patients had an oscillometric device (Arteriograph® TensioMed Ltd) for 24 hours or non-invasive monitoring of central blood pressure, pulse wave velocity and augmentation index. The data were analysed using Medtech®, TensioWin® and Carelink iPro® softwares. We used SPSS® version 20.0 (IBM) for the statistical analysis. The results are presented as median and interquartile range (IQR). Results and Discussion: Ten type 2 diabetes patients (4 males, 6 females) with anterior (4/10) and inferior acute myocardial infarction (6/10) were included. They were treated with insulin (3/10), sulphonylurea (Gliclazide) plus Metformin (4/10), Metformin monotherapy (2/10), or all three (1/10). The patients had a median age of 67.5 (3.25) years with a median disease duration of 8 (7.75) years. The median body mass index was 2

Scientific Investigation of the Paintings from the Agarbiciu (Cluj County) Wooden Church

The investigation of the painting materials (pigments, binders and varnish) of Agarbiciu wooden church painted walls was done by employing both nondestructive (XRF and reflection FTIR spectroscopy for pigments) and destructive methods (FTIR spectroscopy and GC-MS spectrometry for pigments and binders). The digital restoration of the interior of the wooden church was done using the physical-chemical composition of the painting layer, a metadata set that describes the timeline, detailed photographic documentation and the 3D scanned interior of the church.

Microbiological Quality of Traditional Romanian Cheeses from the Rucar-Bran Pass and its Surrounding Regions

The traditional products" quality is often recognized based on organoleptic characteristics without considering the microbiological features, which bring a special note to these products" composition and aroma. It is especially the case of cheeses, whose taste varies from one geographical region to another depending on specific flora and technological processes used in traditional systems. The paper tries to bring new elements on the methodology used in order to elucidate some aspects related to traditional products" quality, products obtained by private producers in the Bra?ov district (Ruc?r-Bran pass). Covasna district and Bistrita Nasaud district were analyzed organoleptically, physico-chemically and microbiologically samples of fresh cow cheese, soft cow cheese, smoked curd cheese, gaiter cheese and cottage cheese taken within the strategic and self-control program from individuals in the rural areas of Fundata, Poiana Sibiului, ?irnea, Par?u, cristian, Cinc?or, Sohodol, Ra?nov, Bra?ov, Bod, Roade?, H?rman, Prejmer, ?oar?, Rupea, Lunca Calnicului, B??anii, Mari, Bran, Buzaiel, B?rcut, H?lchiu, F?g?ra?, Moeciu de Sus, Purc?reni, Bran–?imon, Vene?ia de Jos, Vama Buz?ului, ?ntorsura Buz?ului, V?rghi? and Sita Buz?ului.
