Diversity, Endemism and Conservation of Ferns(Polypodiales) in the Mexican Mountain Component

We analyzed the distributional patterns of95 selected species of leptosporangiate ferns inhabiting the Mexican Mountain Component, using grid-cells of one geographical degree as unit areas,applying endemism indices and richness and beta diversity *** data were obtained from several herbaria and specialized *** grid-cells appear to be important for fern species richness, as they contain 35 to 49 *** gridcells are located in the Sierra Madre Oriental(SMO),Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt(TMVB) and the Sierra Madre del Sur(SMS).Mean richness by latitudinal belts of one degree showed that the belts with highest values are related to the TMVB and SMS.A total of 13grid-cells were recognized as important from theperspective of endemism; most of them are located also in the SMO, TMVB and *** richest gridcells coincided with one of the main centres of endemism for ferns obtained in this study, located in the convergence of the southern part of the SMO, the eastern portion of the TMVB and the northern part of the SMS, reflecting the high humidity existing on the mountain slopes facing the Gulf of *** important grid-cells recognized from richness and endemism analyses coincide with Mexican Natural Protected *** beta diversity analysis showed a low degree of similarity among grid-cells, implying a high species replacement, as the result of environmental heterogeneity occurring in the Mexican mountain *** the other hand, the spatial analysis suggested a pattern of phytogeographical regionalization comprising twomain areas: the Mexican Transition Zone and the Mexican Central *** play an important role in the Mexican biodiversity and contributing to the beta diversity of Mexico.

Pollination networks on islands are often characterized by less complexity than comparable continental environments(Olesen and Jordano 2002).Furthermore,they sometimes include novel generalist-feeding nonspecialist pollinators,including birds in particular(e.g.,Olesen 1985 and references therein).This ecological process has been commonly interpreted in a context of depauperation of insular faunas and interaction release(Traveset et al.2015).

MicroRNAs dysregulation in hepatocellular carcinoma: Insights in genomic medicine

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the leading primary liver cancer and its clinical outcome is still poor. MicroRNAs(mi RNAs) have demonstrated an interesting potential to regulate gene expression at post-transcriptional level. Current findings suggest that mi RNAs deregulation in cancer is caused by genetic and/or epigenetic, transcriptional and post-transcriptional modifications resulting in abnormal expression and hallmarks of malignant transformation: aberrant cell growth, cell death, differentiation, angiogenesis, invasion and metástasis. The important role of mi RNAs in the development and progression of HCC has increased the efforts to understand and develop mechanisms of control overt this single-stranded RNAs. Several studies have analyzed tumoral response to the regulation and control of deregulated mi RNAs with good results in vitro and in vivo, proving that targeting aberrant expression of mi RNAs is a powerful anticancer therapeutic. Identification of up and/or down regulated mi RNAs related to HCC has led to the discovery of new potential application for detection of their presence in the affected organism. Mi RNAs represent a relevant new target for diagnosis, prognosis and treatment in a wide variety of pathologic entities, including HCC. This manuscript intends to summarize current knowledge regarding mi RNAs and their role in HCC development.

Ellipsometric Study of SiOx Thin Films by Thermal Evaporation

This paper presents a study of amorphous SiOx thin films by means of Variable Angle Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (VASE) technique. Tauc lorentz, lorentz and Cauchy models have been used to obtain physical thickness and complex refractive index (n and k) from experimental data. In order to obtain a wide range to x stoichiometry values, the films were prepared by vacuum thermal evaporation of SiO on glass substrates, under different and controlled deposition conditions.

Tuina massage combined with traditional Chinese prescription improves quality of life and motor symptoms in a spasmodic torticollis patient:A case report

Objective:A case study was performed to discuss the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)treatments on spasmodic *** and methods:A 28-year-old male was diagnosed with spasmodic torticollis due to twist and turn of neck after being frightened,who was unable to take care of himself for over 3 *** once took an oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug,but no significant improvement was seen in his *** a few months,his symptoms got worse,with onset of ***,he was treated at our hospital with traditional Chinese prescription and Tuina massage therapy for 3 months and followed up for 6 *** Toronto Western Spasmodic Torticollis rating Scale(TWSTRS)and the Craniocervical Dystonia Questionnaire(CDQ-24)scores were recorded before and after treatment and during follow-up observations to evaluate the therapeutic ***:Compared to the baseline,the TWSTRS and CDQ-24 scores decreased significantly,and there was no evident recurrence of his symptoms for at least 6 months of ***,no apparent discomfort or side effects were observed during the ***:Jingu abdominal massage combined with traditional Chinese prescription has a certain efficacy in the treatment of spasmodic torticollis,with almost no side effects,which can be easily accepted by patients.

AIM： To analyze the polygraphic sleep patterns during cirrhosis progression in a rat model by repeated CCh administration. METHODS： Male Wistar rats received three weekly injections of CCl4 for 11 wk, and were analyzed before and during the induction of cirrhosis. rats were im- planted with electrodes to record their sleep patterns. Polygraph recordings were made weekly over 11 wk for 8 h, during the light period. After a basal recording, rats received three weekly injections of CCl4. Histological confirmation of cirrhosis was performed after 11 wk. RESUlTS： The results showed a progressive decrease in total wake time that reached statistical significance from the second week of treatment. In addition, there was an increase in total time of slow wave sleep （SWS）Ⅱ and rapid eye movement sleep （REM sleep） in most of the 11 wk. SWS I showed no significant variations. During the final weeks, a significant increase in REM sleep frequency was also observed. Histological analyses of the livers showed unequivocal signs of cirrhosis. CONClUSION： These data suggest that hepatic failure produced by CCh administration is capable of modifying the sleep pattern even after only a few doses.
