Lax, who is one of the most promi- nent mathematicians of the past hundred years. Peter Lax has made important and seminal contributions in many areas of pure and applied mathematics, including the theory of integrable systems and solitons, with applications to fluid dynamics and physics, scattering theory, and the theory of shock waves in hyperbolic conservation laws, with applications to gas, dynamics.

Droplet impact and breakup on meshes are relevant to a number of applications involving filters,textiles,and other spatially inhomogeneous media encountering gasdispersed *** study presents high-resolution simulation results of mm-size droplets striking wettability-patterned meshes with the goal of(a)replicating prior physical experiments,(b)identifying sensitivities to the initial conditions and wettability of the mesh wires,and(c)studying the fluid-field dynamics when droplets strike such *** insights from the present model may help to advance understanding of droplet atomization on meshes,which depends on a number of parameters that are nontrivial to control in an experimental *** analysis is carried out by benchmarking the numerical methods used in a commercial software package for orthogonal droplet impact on a flat smooth surface,followed by a convergence analysis,and finally,simulation of specific experiments and case studies involving wettability-patterned mesh *** show that the wettability contrast between the hydrophilic and hydrophobic domains on the mesh as well as the contact angle hysteresis on each side play a critical role in determining whether liquid pinchoff *** three-dimensional computational framework constructed in this work is a step toward predicting the postimpact behavior of droplets that strike woven meshes and other porous inhomogeneous media consisting of materials with different wetting properties.

This study numerically and experimentally investigates the effects of wave loads on a monopile-type offshore wind turbine placed on a 1:25 slope at different water depths as well as the effect of choosing different turbulence models on the efficiency of the numerical *** numerical model adopts a two-phase flow by solving Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier−Stokes(URANS)equations using the Volume Of Fluid(VOF)method and three differentk-􀀀ωturbulence *** environmental conditions from the East China Sea are *** wave run-up and the wave loads applied on the monopile are investigated and compared with relevant experimental data as well as with mathematical predictions based on relevant *** numerical model is well validated against the experimental data at model *** use of different turbulence models results in different predictions on the wave height but less differences on the wave *** baseline k-􀀀ωturbulence model and Shear-Stress Transport(SST)k-􀀀ωturbulence model exhibit better performance on the prediction of hydrodynamic load,at a model-scale water depth of 0.42 m,while the laminar model provides better results for large water *** SST turbulence model performs better in predicting wave run-up for water depth 0.42 m,while the laminar model and standard k-􀀀ωmodel perform better at water depth 0.52 m and 0.62 m,respectively.

The vast majority of prior studies on droplet impact have focused on collisions of liquid droplets with spatially homogeneous(i.e.,uniform-wettability)*** in recent years,there has been growing interest on droplet impact on nonuniform wettability surfaces,which are more relevant in *** paper presents first an experimental study of axisymmetric droplet impact on wettability-patterned *** experiments feature millimeter-sized water droplets impacting centrally with Wemain is less wettable than the inner one).Depending upon the droplet momentum at impact,the experiments reveal the existence of three possible regimes of axisymmetric spreading,namely(I)interior(only within Area 1)spreading,(II)contact-line entrapment at the periphery of Area 1,and(III)exterior(extending into Area 2)*** present an analysis based on energetic principles forθ_(1)θ_(2)(i.e.,the outer domain is more wettable than the inner one).The experimental observations are consistent with the scaling and predictions of the analytical model,thus outlining a strategy for predicting droplet impact behavior for more complex wettability patterns.

This study presents the remedial ability of maize on lead(Pb)contaminated *** samples were collected randomly from the site and subjected to physico-chemical tests before *** samples were contaminated artificially at six different concentration levels of lead nitrate(Pb(NO_(3))_(2)).Experimental design was 4-factorial combination(6×6×2×1).The study duration was 10 weeks,and during this period,Pb contents of the soil were analyzed in intervals of two *** physico-chemical properties of the soil showed that the soil was loamy with pH 6.82,electrical conductivity 1.62 dS/m and adequate macro nutrient *** av-erage percentage removal of Pb from the soil was 2.25%and 3.67%for potted and non-potted experiments,***,the average percentage of Pb in the roots was 1.10%and 1.68%for potted and non-potted experiments,*** result of this study indicated that extraction of Pb by the plant system increased with the increase of lead concentration in the soil as well as in the extent of vegetation attained by the *** also clearly showed that the non-potted experiments demonstrated greater influence on removal of Pb from the soil system than the potted experiments.
