Morph.-Ph.siological Ch.racterization of Glyph.sate-Resistant and -Susceptible h.rseweed (Conyza canadensis) Biotypes of US Midsouth

h.rseweed is traditionally considered a non-cropland weed. h.wever, populations resistant to glyph.sate h.ve eventually become establish.d in no-till agronomic cropping systems. Growth.ch.mber and greenh.use experiments were conducted to compare selected biological and ph.siological parameters of glyph.sate-resistant (GR) and -susceptible (GS) h.rseweed biotypes from Mississippi with.a broader goal of fitness ch.racterization in th.se biotypes. Vegetative growth.parameters (number of leaves, rosette diameter and area, sh.ot and root fresh.weigh.s) were recorded weekly from 5 to 11 wk after emergence and reproductive attributes [days to bolting (production of a flowering stalk) and flowering] and senescence were measured for both.GR and GS biotypes under h.gh.(24°C/20°C) and low (18°C/12°C) temperature regimes, both.with.a 13-h.ligh. period. Ph.siological traits such.as net ph.tosynth.sis, ph.nolic content, and cell membrane th.rmostability, all in th. presence and absence of glyph.sate, and leaf content of divalent cations such.as Ca2+ and Mg2+ were assayed in th. two biotypes under th. h.gh.temperature regime. All h.rseweed vegetative growth.parameters except root fresh.weigh. were h.gh.r in th. h.gh.temperature regime compared to th.t in low temperature regime in both.biotypes. Number of leaves, rosette diameter and area, sh.ot and root fresh.weigh. were 40 vs. 35, 9.3 vs. 8.7 cm, 51 vs. 43 cm2, 3.7 vs. 3.2 g, and 3.5 vs. 4.2 g under h.gh.and low temperature conditions, respectively, wh.n averaged across biotypes and weekly measurements. All growth.parameters listed above were h.gh.r for th. GR biotype compared to th. GS biotype. Number of leaves, rosette diameter and area, sh.ot and root fresh.weigh. were 38 vs. 37, 9.1 vs. 8.9 cm, 50.2 vs. 44 cm2, 3.9 vs. 3.1 g, and 4.3 vs. 3.5 g for GR and GS biotypes, respectively, averaged across th. temperature treatments and weekly measurements. Effect of Winter Flooding on Weeds, Soybean Yield, Straw Degradation, and Soil Ch.mical and Bioch.mical Ch.racteristics

Winter flooding of h.rvested rice fields attracts migratory waterfowl and may assist in degrading rice straw residue. Field studies were conducted between 2003 and 2005 in Stoneville, MS to evaluate th. impacts of winter flooding of h.rvested rice fields on rice straw degradation, winter weeds, soybean yield, and soil bioch.mical and ch.mical properties. Th. experimental area each.year consisted of a h.rvested rice field th.t remained no-till after h.rvest and th.t was dissected into 7.6- by 15-m bays with.constructed levees to accommodate winter flooding treatments. Flooding treatments (10-cm depth. consisted of: 1) flooded from mid-October to early March.2) flooded mid-October to early January;3) flooded mid-December to early March.4) flooded mid-December to mid-January;and 5) no flood. Winter weeds were counted, biomass determined as well as residual rice straw before flooding and in early April of each.year. Winter flooding reduced rice straw biomass 32% to 60% compared to 21% to 31% reduction for no winter flood with.th. longest flood duration resulting in th. greatest loss of carbon and nitrogen from straw residues in both.years. Winter flooding treatments reduced weed populations and weed biomass from 43% to 99% wh.n compared to no flooding treatment. Soybean yields ranged from 3295 ***-1 with.th. longest winter flooding regime to 4295 ***-1 with.no flooding. Significant reductions in soil nitrate levels were most consistent in th. upper 0 to 2.5-cm surface soil. Soil enzymatic activity (deh.drogenase and fluorescein diacetate h.drolysis) was increased by flooding in 2003, wh.le minimal effects were found in th. second year consistent with.more anaerobic conditions attained in 2003 compared to 2004. Environmental benefits of accelerated straw decomposition and weed control is ach.eved by winter flooding;h.wever, th.re are negative consequences of nitrogen losses and reduced soybean yield.

Comparing outcomes from th. two most recognized acupuncturist workforce surveys

OBJECTIVE： To determine th. informational consistency produced by th. two most recent independent surveys and draw a conclusion wh.th.r th. data would be sufficient for th. National Center for h.alth.Workforce Analysis and Bureau of Labor and Statistics consideration. METh.DS： Th.s paper compares workforce outcomes collected by th. two most prominent acupuncture entities th.t h.ve produced th. most useful acupuncturist workforce data （California Acupuncture Board 2015 Occupational Analysis and th. National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine^2013 Job Analysis） at national and state levels. RESULTS： Findings based upon th. most compatible survey questions sh.wed th. following： more th.n 70% of acupuncturists work fewer th.n 40 h.urs weekly; approximately 76% work in solo practice or in sh.red space with.oth.r acupuncturists; more th.n 70% of th. national sample h.ve been in practice 15 years or less; and median income is between $40 000 and $50 000. A preponderance of acupuncturists is less th.n 50 years of age, and fewer th.n 15% of all respondents h.ve been in practice more th.n 20 years. CONCLUSION： Basic workforce information is a necessary precursor for conducting workforce projections. It is useful to track th. expansion or contraction of any given profession. Tracking influences subsequent planning for th. profession based upon reliable and valid information about its growth. Th. ability of th. profession to collect its own workforce data is paramount to workforce projection models. Any future survey sh.uld be a sh.red project th.t follows guidelines supported by th. National Center for h.alth.Workforce Analysis.

Imaging sh.llow structure with.active-source surface wave signal recorded by distributed acoustic sensing arrays

Distributed acoustic sensing(DAS) is one recently developed seismic acquisition tech.ique th.t is based on fiber-optic sensing. DAS provides dense spatial spacing th.t is useful to image sh.llow structure with.surface *** test th. feasibility of DAS in sh.llow structure imaging,th. PoroTomo team conducted a DAS experiment with.th. vibroseis truck T-Rex in Brady’s h.t Springs, Nevada, *** Rayleigh.waves excited by th. vertical mode of th. vibroseis truck were analyzed with.th. Multich.nnel Analysis of Surface Waves(MASW) meth.d. Ph.se velocities between5 and 20 h. were successfully extracted for one segment of cable and were employed to build a sh.ar-wave velocity model for th. top 50 meters. Th. dispersion curves obtained with.DAS agree well with.th. ones extracted from co-located geoph.nes data and from th. passive source Noise Correlation Functions(NCF). Comparing to th. co-located geoph.ne array, th. h.gh.r sensor density th.t DAS arrays provides h.lp reducing aliasing in dispersion analysis, and separating different surface wave modes. Th.s study demonstrates th. feasibility and advantage of DAS in imaging sh.llow structure with.surface waves.

Objective： We h.ve continued previous work in wh.ch.we demonstrated th.t #117 and #372 amino acids contributed to th. h.gh.activities of h.man CYP2A13 in catalyzing 4-meth.lnitrosamino-1-（3-pyridyl）-1-butanone（NNK） and aflatoxin BI（AFB1） carcinogenic activation. Th. present study was designed to identify oth.r potential amino acid residues th.t contribute to th. different catalytic ch.racteristics of two CYP2A enzymes, CYP2A6 and CYP2A13, in nicotine metabolism and provide insigh.s of th. substrate and related amino acid residues interactions. Meth.ds： A series of reciprocally substituted mutants of CYP2A6lle^300→ Ph., CYP2A6Gly^301aAla, CYP2A6Ser^369 → Gly, CYP2A13Ph.^300→ Ile, CYP2A13Ala^301 → Gly and CYP2A13Gly^369 → Set were generated by site-directed mutagenesis/baculovirus-Sf9 insect cells expression. Comparative kinetic analysis of nicotine 5＇h.droxylatin by wild type and mutant CYP2A proteins was performed. Results：All amino acid residue substitutions at 300, 301 and 369 caused significant kinetic property ch.nges in nicotine metabolism. Wh.le CYP2A6Ile^300→ Ph. and CYP2A6Gly^301→Ala mutations h.d notable catalytic efficiency increases compared to th.t for th. wild type CYP2A6, CYP2A13Ph.^300→Ile and CYP2A13Ala^301→Gly replacement introduced remarkable catalytic efficiency decreases. In addition, all th.se catalytic efficiency alterations were caused by Vmax variations rath.r th.n Km ch.nges. Substitution of #369 residue significantly affected both.Km and Vmax values. CYP2A6Ser^369 → Gly increase th. catalytic efficiency via a significant Km decrease versus Vmax enh.ncement, wh.le th. opposite effects were seen with.CYP2A13Gly^369 → Ser. Conclusion：#300, #301 and #369 residues in h.man CYP2A6/13 play important roles in nicotine 5＇ -oxidation. Switch.ng #300 or #301 residues did not affect th. 鉴于早就知道部分禾本科的种子(在约定俗成的播种意义上)可以在水下发芽,其它的一些则不能的情况(Morinaga,1962)。因此,对禾本科植物的一个样本,显然可以确定其种子在非通气条件下是否具有发芽能力,而水还与它们在科内的分类地位有关。在2个1升的量杯中装满10厘米深的自来水,一个通过空气泡而另一个不通。所有的实验都在室温和自然光中完成。分别测试50个种予在2个装置中的发芽力。当胚芽鞘或胚根或二者均形成时,可认为发芽。随后将小苗淘汰。测试的59个种的结果总结于表1。

AIMTo test wh.th.r muscle mass evaluated by creatinine excretion （EXCr） is maintained in patients with.end-stage kidney disease （ESKD） treated by peritoneal dialysis （PD）, we evaluated repeated measurements of EXCr in a PD *** h.ndred and sixty-six PD patients （94 male, 72 female） receiving th. same PD dose for th. duration of th. study （up to approximately 2.5 years） h.d repeated determinations of total （in urine plus spent dialysate） 24-h.EXCr （EXCr T） to assess th. adequacy of PD by creatinine clearance. All 166 patients h.d two EXCr T determinations, 84 of th. 166 patients h.d th.ee EXCr T determinations and 44 of th. 166 patients h.d four EXCr T measurements. EXCr T values were compared using th. paired t test in th. patients wh. h.d two studies and by repeated measures ANOVA in th.se wh. were studied th.ee or four *** patients wh. were studied twice, with.th. first and second EXCr T measurements performed at 9.2 ± 15.2 mo and 17.4 ± 15.8 mo after onset of PD, respectively, EXCr T did not differ between th. first and second study. In patients studied th.ee times and wh.se fnal assessment occurred 24.7 ± 16.3 mo after initiating PD, EXCr T did not differ between th. first and second study, but was significantly lower in th. th.rd study compared to th. frst study. In patients wh. were studied four times and wh.se fourth.measurement was taken 31.9 ± 16.8 mo after onset of PD, EXCr T did not differ between any of th. studies. Th. synth.ses of a library of new ch.ral aminoph.nolate bidentate O,N-type ligands h.C6h.sub>4(2-R- 4-R′)Ch.sub>2N(Me)Ch.Me)C6h.sub>5 [R = R′ = But, 1;R = R′ = Pent, 2;R = But, R′ = Me, 3;R = Me, R′ = But, 4;R = R′ = Me, 5] and tridentate O,N,O-type ligands h.C6h.sub>4(2,4-But)Ch.= NCh.R′′)C6h.sub>5 [R′′ = Me, 6;R′′ = Ch.sub>2OMe, 7] are reported. Th.se ligands were ch.racterized by elemental analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1h.& 13C), and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Th.se ligands serve as ch.ral auxiliaries for inorganic ch.mists to design ch.ral metal-based complexes for asymmetric catalysis and stereoselective polymerization reactions. Th.ee new h.teroleptic zinc complexes based on th.se ligands h.ve been synth.sized in moderate yields via a ligand-exch.nge transamination reaction between h.moleptic [Zn(N(SiMe3)2)2] and one equivalent of corresponding ligands to afford [L3ZnN- (SiMe3)2] (3a), [L4ZnN(SiMe3)2] (4a), and [L7ZnN(SiMe3)2] (7a). Solvent-free polymerization of raclactide at 130°C using th.se zinc compounds yielded atactic polylactides with.Mw 10,000 g/mol and narrow polydispersity of 1.3.
