A funnel-type mold is commonly used to provide necessary clearance for the submerged entry nozzle in the thin slab casting(TSC).The partially solidified shell is subjected to the mechanical deformations,which can lead to the defects formation and,as a results,to a ***,the results of the flow simulation,performed by the finite volume method(FVM),are fed to the external package for the finite element analysis of stress and strain.A coupled model was assembled using“creeping solid”approach by blending the Norton-Hoff viscoplastic stress for the solidifying shell with the Newtonian viscous stress of the liquid *** FVM was used to combine both liquid and solid stress models within a single *** iterative procedure based on the improved both side diffusion method was introduced to treat the nonlinear relation between the viscoplastic stress and the strain *** modeled shell thickness was verified by previously published breakout measurements and the simulation *** distribution,obtained during the TSC simulation,dominantly corresponds to the viscoplastic *** numerical approach is robust and has direct industrial application.

The aim of this study was to analyze cartilage creep and creep recovery after static and cyclic loading. Up to now technical limitations have hindered the measurement of creep recovery. For this reason, we developed a closed loop micro creep and creep-recovery indentation test system with active force control. Bovine osteochondral explants were tested under static （110 kPa） and cyclic （100 cycles, 350 kPa/35 kPa, 1 Hz） loading conditions and subsequently creep recovery was measured. The cartilage thickness was determined using needle indentation. For static loading, the creep and creep-recovery rates were significantly different during the first 60 seconds （p 〈 0.05）. Cyclic loading was assessed for the medial and lateral patella and resulted in a physiological patellar cartilage strain of 7.7% ± 2.6% and 8.2% ± 2.7%, respectively. We recorded a creep recovery of 97.8% ±2.1% for the medial and 98.3% ± 2.4% for the lateral patella. The advantage of this study over earlier in vitro studies is that we recorded creep-recovery profiles with an actively controlled setup. This allowed us to analyze creep recovery immediately after removing the creep load, in contrast to MRI-based in vivo studies. In future, the presented method will enable us to quantify spatial variations within articular joints.

The present study,both experimentally and by numerical simulation,concerns the sensitivity of a flow that is driven by a travelling magnetic field(TMF)with respect to a stepwise applied mismatch between the axes of the TMF and of the cylindrical liquid metal *** TMF is generated by six equidistantly arranged cylindrical coils powered with an AC current having a phase shift of 60℃ between *** the flow induced by a TMF is basically of a toms type,vertical velocity components are representative for the motion in the meridional *** Doppler Velocimetry(UDV)was applied to acquire the velocity component along the beam axis in the centre of the liquid metal column and at various azimuthal positions for a fixed radial *** measurements are compared to the flow data gained by large eddy *** were based on the usual approximations to simplify the magnetohydrodynamic equations,which are low frequency and low induction,and on an analytical expression for the Lorentz force considering the shift between the fluid volume and the *** results show that even a small shift between the axes may result in a distinct three-dimensional constituent of the flow structure which changes completely the usually assumed axisymmetric toms-type flow.

AIM: To compare the effect of transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) plus GRGDSP(Gly-Arg-Gly-Asp-SerPro, integrin-inhibitor) loaded nanoparticles with TACE alone or TACE + GRGDSP in a rat model of liver tumor. METHODS: Morris hepatoma 3924 A tumors were implanted in the livers of 30 ACI rats. The ACI rats were divided randomly into three groups(10 animals each). Tumor volume before treatment(V1) was examined by magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), and then, after laparotomy and placement of a PE-10 catheter into the hepatic artery, the following interventional protocols were performed: TACE(mitomycin C + lipiodol + degradable starch microspheres) + GRGDSP loaded nanoparticles for group A; TACE + GRGDSP for group B(control group 1); TACE alone for group C(control group 2). Tumor volume(V2) was assessed by MRI and the mean ratio of the post-treatment to pretreatment tumor volumes(V2/V1) was calculated. Immunohistochemical analysis was performed to assess the quantification of matrix metalloprotein 9(MMP-9) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) positive tumor cells in each treatment ***: The mean tumor growth ratios(V2/V1) were 1.3649 ± 0.1194 in group A, 2.0770 ± 0.1595 in group B, and 3.2148 ± 0.1075 in group C. Compared with groups B and C, group A showed a significant reduction in tumor volume. Lower expression of MMP-9 and VEGF in hepatocellular carcinoma was observed in group A than in groups B and C. The angiogenesis of tumor was evaluated using anti-VEGF antibodies, and the metastasis of tumor was assessed using antiMMP-9 antibody. MMP-9 and VEGF were expressed in all specimens. The immunoexpression of these proteins was confirmed by the presence of red cytoplasmic staining in tumor cells. AIM: To investigate the prevalence of colorectal cancer in geriatric patients undergoing endoscopy and to analyze their ***: All consecutive patients older than 80 years who underwent lower gastrointestinal endoscopy between January 1995 and December 2002 at our institution were *** with endoscopic diagnosis of colorectal cancer were evaluated with respect to indication, localization and stage of cancer, therapeutic consequences, and ***: Colorectal cancer was diagnosed in 88 patients (6% of all endoscopies, 55 women and 33 men, mean age 85.2 years). Frequent indications were lower gastrointestinal bleeding (25%), anemia (24%) or sonographic suspicion of tumor (10%). Localization of cancer was predominantly the sigmoid colon (27%), the rectum (26%), and the ascending colon (20%). Stage Dukes A was rare (1%), but Dukes D was diagnosed in 22% of cases. Curative surgery was performed in 54 patients (61.4%), in the remaining 34 patients (38.6%)surgical treatment was not feasible due to malnutrition and asthenia or cardiopulmonary comorbidity (15 patients), distant metastases (11 patients) or refusal of operation (8 patients).Patients undergoing surgery had a very low in-hospital mortality rate (2%). Operated patients had a one-year and three-year survival rate of 88% and 49%, and the survival rates for nonoperated patients amounted to 46% and 13% ***: Nearly two-thirds of 88 geriatric patients with endoscopic diagnosis of colorectal cancer underwent successful surgery at a very low perioperative mortality rate, resulting in significantly higher survival rates. Hence,the clinical relevance of lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and oncologic surgery in geriatric patients is demonstrated.

Traditional intensity modulated two-level electrical time-division multiplexing （ETDM） transmission systems working at 100 -112 Gbit/s were investigated. The complete ETDM systems based on monolithically integrated transmitter and receiver modules were demonstrated with biterror-rate （BER） performance of 10-s at 107 Gbit/s, and near error-free standard forward error correction （FEC） threshold （2 × 10 -3） at 112 Gbit/s. The experiment results showed that directly modulated high-speed ETDM transmission systems with the symbol rates at 100 Gbaud and beyond were promising candidate for cost-effective 100 GbE applications and might be a preform of the next generation of Terabit/s Ethernet.
