Background:Methodological applications of the high sensitivity genus-specific Schistosoma CAA strip test,allowing detection of single worm active infections(ultimate sensitivity),are discussed for efficient utilization in sample pooling *** relevant cost reduction,pooling of samples rather than individual testing can provide valuable data for large scale mapping,surveillance,and ***:The laboratory-based CAA strip test utilizes luminescent quantitative up-converting phosphor(UCP)reporter particles and a rapid user-friendly lateral flow(lF)assay *** test includes a sample preparation step that permits virtually unlimited sample concentration with urine,reaching ultimate sensitivity(single worm detection)at 100%*** facilitates testing large urine pools from many individuals with minimal loss of sensitivity and *** test determines the average CAA level of the individuals in the pool thus indicating overall worm burden and *** requiring test results at the individual level,smaller pools need to be analysed with the pool-size based on expected prevalence or when unknown,on the average CAA level of a larger group;CAA negative pools do not require individual test results and thus reduce the number of ***:Straightforward pooling strategies indicate that at sub-population level the CAA strip test is an efficient assay for general mapping,identification of hotspots,determination of stratified infection levels,and accurate monitoring of mass drug administrations(MDA).At the individual level,the number of tests can be reduced *** low endemic settings as the pool size can be increased as opposed to prevalence ***:At the sub-population level,average CAA concentrations determined in urine pools can be an appropriate measure indicating worm *** strategies allowing this type of large scale testing are feasible with the various CAA strip test formats and do not affect sens

On Northern Hemisphere Wave Patterns Associated with Winter Rainfall Events in China

During extended winter （November-April）, 43% of the intraseasonal rainfall variability in China is explained by three spatial patterns of temporally coherent rainfall, These patterns were identified with empirical orthogonal teleconnection （EOT） analysis of observed 1982-2007 pentad rainfall anomalies and connected to midlatitude disturbances. However, ex- amination of individual strong EOT events shows that there is substantial inter-event variability in their dynamical evolution, which implies that precursor patterns found in regressions cannot serve as useful predictors. To understand the physical nature and origins of the extratropical precursors, the EOT technique is applied to six simulations of the Met Office Unified Model at horizontal resolutions of 200-40 km, with and without air-sea coupling. All simulations reproduce the observed precursor patterns in regressions, indicating robust underlying dynamical processes. Further investigation into the dynamics associated with observed patterns shows that Rossby wave dynamics can explain the large inter-event variability. The results suggest that the appaxently slowly evolving or quasi-stationaxy waves in regression analysis are a statistical amalgamation of more rapidly propagating waves with a variety of origins and properties.

Spontaneous twisting of a collapsed carbon nanotube

We study the collapsing and subsequent spontaneous twisting of a carbon nanotube by in situ transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. A custom-sized nanotube is first created in the microscope by selectively extracting shells from a parent multi-walled tube. The few-walled, large-diameter daughter nanotube is driven to collapse via mechanical stimulation, after which the ribbon-like collapsed tube spontaneously twists along its long axis. In situ diffraction experiments fully characterize the uncollapsed and collapsed tubes. The experimental observations and associated theoretical analysis indicate that the origin of the twisting is compressive strain.

Most of the toxicity data presented in the literature are obtained in relatively simple media, like distilled water. The literature reported that nanoparticles agglomerate immediately upon being added to cell culture media and if the agglomerates are used directly in antimicrobial studies, the interpretation of the toxicity results tends to be complicated. Six different molar ratios Ag-TiO2 composites were synthesized by a reduction method using two different commercial TiO2 particles as base materials and were used to find the aggregate size in distilled water and Mueller-Hinton Broth, and to obtain the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) against E. coli and E. faecalis. To evaluate the evolution of the Ag-TiO2 particle size (z-average) three dilutions of each of the synthesized composites 100 μg/ml, 250 μg/ml and 500 μg/ml were realized in deionized water and Mueller Hinton broth. It was found that Ag-TiO2 composites increased in size after being diluted in Mueller-Hinton Broth, but once they grew in size, they remained constant for 24 minutes, and after this time, did not affect the MIC for the microorganisms involved.

中华鳖是中国和东南亚国家养殖最为普遍的养殖鳖种,中国是世界中华鳖养殖产量最高的国家,中华鳖养殖年产量达7000吨,全国有各类龟鳖养殖场数千个,重要分成在长江以南各省。随着中华鳖集约化养殖的快速发展,养殖中华鳖各类疾病发生频繁,主要包括气单胞菌、爱德华菌、变形杆菌等各类细菌。抗生素由于存在诱发耐药性等种类弊病,在水产上的使用受到诸种限制。近年来,各类有益微生物制剂作为疾病控制和预防的替代手段,日益受到重视。本文拟从养殖中华鳖体内分离和鉴定天然栖息的有益菌,以期为中华鳖疾病防控提供新的途径。从养殖中华鳖中分离到73株不同菌株,用嗜水气单胞菌ATCC 7966和BSK10作为指示菌,用于筛选抗病原菌的颉抗菌。共分离到18株对气单胞菌有明显抑菌效果的菌株,对嗜水气单胞菌的抑菌圈大于6mm,用纸片法测定阳性菌培养上清的抑菌力,抑菌圈均为6 mm以上(纸片直径4mm)。对18个阳性菌株用16s r RNA通用引物进行了PCR克隆,经序列分析,鉴定了上述菌株,共分到假单胞菌杆菌(Pseudomonas sp)、黄杆菌(Flavobacterium sp)、紫色杆菌(Janthinobacterium sp.)、波单胞菌(Brevundimonas vesicularis)、芽孢杆菌(Bacillus sp),滕黄微球菌(Micrococcus luteus)、,梭菌(Clostridiales bacterium)、微球菌(Micrococcaceae bacterium)、肠球菌(Enterococcus sp)、土壤杆菌(Agrobacterium sp)、金黄杆菌(Chryseobacterium sp)等。上述有抑菌活性菌株中,有17株可在营养肉汤中快速生长,20小时的菌浓度可达105-108 CFU.m l-1,表明这些菌株适合大量培养,具备规模化培养和作为生产应用的可能性。这些从中华鳖体内分离的天然栖息菌有望作为中华鳖养殖中的有益菌使用,提高中华鳖养殖健康水平、减少病害发生、提高免疫力。此外,从中华鳖体内分离到蜡样微球菌(Micrococcus cereus),该菌对革兰阳性菌和阴性菌均有较强的抑菌力,计划对该菌进行进一步研究,并摸索蜡样微球菌在中华鳖室内和养殖疾病防控中应用条件。.

The Yelapa-Chimo Metamorphic Complex forms part of the Jalisco Block in western Mexico and exposes a wide range of Early Cretaceous metamorphic rocks;such as paragneiss,orthogneiss,amphibolites,and ***,the pressure-temperature(P-T)conditions of metamorphism and partial melting remain poorly studied in the *** elucidate metamorphic P-T conditions,phase equilibrium modelling was applied to two sillimanite-garnet paragneisses,one amphibole-orthogneiss,and one ***-garnet paragneisses exhibit a lepidoblastic texture with a biotite+sillimanite+kyanite+garnet+quartz+plagioclase+K-feldspar mineral ***-orthogneiss and amphibolite display a nematoblastic texture with an amphibole+(1)plagioclase+quartz+(1)titanite assemblage and an amphibole+(2)plagioclase+(2)titanite+ilmenite retrograde mineral *** calculated for the two sillimanite-garnet paragneiss samples show P-T peak conditions at~6-7.5 kbar and~725-740℃.The results for amphibole-orthogneiss and the amphibolite yield P-T peak conditions at~8.5-10 kbar and~690-710℃.The mode models imply that metasedimentary and metaigneous units can produce up to~20 vol%and~10 vol%of melt,*** within a closed system during isobaric heating suggests that melt compositions of metasedimentary and metaigneous units are likely to have direct implications for the petrogenesis of the Puerto Vallarta *** new data indicate that the Yelapa-Chimo Metamorphic Complex evolved through a metamorphic gradient between~23-33℃km^-1and the metamorphic rocks formed at depths between~22 km and~30 km with a burial rate of~2.0 km Ma^-***,the P-T data for both metasedimentary and metaigneous rocks provide new constraints on an accretionary framework,which is responsible for generating metamorphism and partial melting in the YelapaChimo Metamorphic Complex during the Early Cretaceous.

Bats and marsupials as indicators of endemism in the Yungas forest of Argentina

Several studies have characterized the Yungas as a separate biogeographic unit, mainly based in floristic components. However, these characterizations were mainly qualitative and did not include faunal groups. The Yungas have been assumed as a region with rich floral and faunal diversity, but without testing how well they are described by animal distributions. Our study consists of a formal analysis of endemism based on distribution of small mammals in the southernmost portion of the Yungas. This area is biogeographically very interesting because the Yungas are comprised of discontinuous fragments of forests that extend into temperate arid and semiarid habitats. As a first approximation, we contrasted a group of volant species （bats） versus a group of non-volant species （marsupials）. Our results show that small mammals are efficient indicators of endemism in Yungas. Eighty percent of the species of small marsupials included in the analysis supported the identified areas as being zones of endemism. Regarding bats, almost 55 percent of the species supported a designation of endemism. The results also show that the areas we considered are congruent with the botanical definition of the Yungas of northwestern Argentina and their subdivisions, an assumption that had not been previously tested with a formal quantitative method. We also found that non-volant species are better indicators of endemism than volant ones at regional scales, but volant species are better indicators than was previously thought.

Quality of life and psychological health in the field of competitive sport are emergent research topics,specifically for issues such as sport anxiety and *** the rise of contemplative practices,yoga has started to be used and included as part of athletes' mental *** study aimed to systematically review the literature on the impact of yoga interven-tions on quality of life,performance anxiety and sport performance among healthy elite adult *** on PRISMA guidelines,this systematic review includes articles published up to December *** search strategy was conducted in six databases (PUBMED,EMBASE,PsycINFO,SCOPUS,SportDiscuss and (E)rudit).Screened by two independent researchers,only six of the 37 articles drawn from the search met the preselected inclusion criteria and moved forward to the data extraction *** from six trials of poor quality (M =46.91%,SD =13.39,IRR of 92%) were included in this comprehensive literature search,indicating that elite athletes benefit from yoga interventions (with or without mindful-ness),in terms of changes in performance anxiety M =65% (SD =122.49),sport performance M =7.9% (SD =5.46) and life *** interventions lasted on average 5.7 weeks (SD =2.07).Based on the collected evidence,methodological and measurement limitations of the sport psychology literature should be addressed to improve the replicability of reported ***,this review provides encouraging but limited evidence for the value of yoga interventions in healthy adult ***,the important reporting inconsistencies and theoretical limitations that have been raised highlight the need for trials with greater methodological rigor.
