Background:Previously published meta-epidemiological studies focused on western medicine have identified some trial characteristics that impact the treatment effect of randomized controlled trials(RcTs).Nevertheless,it remains unclear if similar associations exist in RcTs on chinese herbal medicine(cHM).Further,chinese medicine-related characteristics have not been explored ***:To investigate trial characteristics related to treatment effect estimates on cHM *** strategy:This meta-epidemiological study searched 5 databases for systematic reviews on cHM treatment published between January 2011 and July *** criteria:An eligible systematic review should only include RcTs of cHM and conduct at least one *** extraction and analysis:Two reviewers independently conducted data extraction on general characteristics of systematic reviews,meta-analyses and included *** also assessed the risk of bias of RcTs using the cochrane risk of bias tool.A two-step approach was used for data *** ratio of odds ratios(ROR) and difference in standardized mean differences (dSMD) with 95%confidence interval (cI) were applied to present the difference in effect estimates for binary and continuous outcomes,***:Ninety-one systematic reviews,comprising 1338 RcTs were *** binary outcomes,RcTs incorporated with syndrome differentiation (ROR:1.23;95%cI:[1.07,1.39]),adopting chinese medicine formula (ROR:1.19;95%cI:[1.03,1.34]),with low risk of bias on incomplete outcome data (ROR:1.29;95%cI:[1.06,1.52]) and selective outcome reporting (ROR:1.12;95%cI:[1.01,1.24]),as well as a trial size≥100 (ROR:1.23;95%cI:[1.04,1.42]) preferred to show larger effect *** for continuous outcomes,RcTs with chinese medicine diagnostic criteria (dSMD:0.23;95%cI:[0.06,0.41]),judged as high/unclear risk of bias on allocation concealment (dSMD:-0.70;95%cI:[-0.99,-0.42]),with low risk of bias on incomplete outcome data (dSMD:0.30

Xanthomonas spp. cause severe bacterial diseases. However, effective strategies for prevention and management of these diseases are scarce. Thus, it is necessary to improve the efficiency of control of diseases caused by Xanthomonas. In this study, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae(Xoo), which causes rice bacterial leaf blight, has been studied as a representative. A transposon insertion library of Xoo, comprising approximately 200,000 individual insertion mutants, was generated. Transposon sequencing data indicated that the mariner c9 transposase mapped at 35.7–36.4% of all potential insertion sites, revealing 491 essential genes required for the growth of Xoo in rich media. The results show that, compared to the functions of essential genes of other bacteria, the functions of some essential genes of Xoo are unknown, 25 genes might be dangerous for the Xanthomonas group, and 3 are specific to Xanthomonas. High-priority candidates for developing broad-spectrum, Xanthomonas-specific, and environment-friendly bactericides were identified in this study. In addition, this study revealed the possible targets of dioctyldiethylenetriamine using surface plasmon resonance(SPR) in combination with high performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry(HPLc–MS). The study also provided references for the research of some certain bactericides with unknown anti-bacterial mode of action. In conclusion, this study urged a better understanding of Xanthomonas,provided meaningful data for the management of bacterial leaf blight, and disclosed selected targets of a novel bactericide.

Adverse Events following AstraZeneca cOVID-19 Vaccination: A case Study in Abidjan, côte d’Ivoire

Introduction: Pharmaceutical companies have boosted vaccine production following the global cOVID-19 pandemic. In côte d’Ivoire, the first vaccination campaign with the AstraZeneca vaccine began on March 1, 2021, as part of the covax program. Despite the positive benefit/risk balance, the adverse effects of vaccination should not be minimized. Objective: To identify adverse events of AstraZeneca’s cOVID-19 vaccination for better management. Materials and Methods: This is a case of a 57-year-old obese (BMI = 39 kg/m2) female health care worker who experienced adverse events in March 2021 after the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine administered 4 weeks apart. These were subject to mandatory case reporting. Results: Major post-vaccination events occurred in a noisy systemic picture with parameters showing significant disturbances. Biological surveillance remains costly and makes the accountability of the vaccine complex. conclusion: Vaccination remains the ultimate weapon in the fight against endemic diseases but should not overshadow the reporting of adverse events.

A 72 year-old female developed a herpetic esophagitis after 3 d of oral corticotherapy for an acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,presenting as odynophagia and total *** were taken during a first esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD) and the patient was referred to the thoracic surgery service with a presumptive diagnosis of esophageal cancer.A second EGD was planned for dilatation,but by that time the stenosis was completely *** biopsies taken during the first EGD revealed multiple herpetic viral inclusions and ulcerations without any dysplasia or *** front of a severe esophageal stenosis,one must still exclude the usual differential diagnosis peptic stenosis and *** of endoscopic lesions can suggest the diagnosis but must be promptly confirmed by biopsy,viral culture or polymerase chain *** immune systemic effects of corticotherapy are well known and herpetic esophagitis occurs most frequently in immunocompromised individuals,this case emphasizes the importance of clinical awareness concerning short courses of corticotherapy for immunocompetent *** article discusses the reactivation process of herpetic infection in this context and addresses its diagnostic and therapeutic issues.

commercial milking of sheep is a new agricultural industry in the United States starting approximately 30 yr ago. The industry is still small, but it is growing. The majority of the sheep milk is used in the production of specialty cheeses. The United States is the major importer of sheep milk cheeses with 50 to 60% of annual world exports coming to the United States during the past 20 yr. Therefore, there is considerable growth potential for the industry in the United States. The only dairy sheep research flock in North America is located at the Spooner Agricultural Research Station of the University of wisconsin-Madison. The research program started in 1993 and has been multifaceted; dealing with several areas important to commercial dairy sheep farmers. The East Friesian and Lacaune dairy breeds were compared and introduced to the industry through the research program. Both dairy breeds produced significantly more milk than traditional meat-wool breeds found in the U.S., but the two breeds differed in their production traits. East Friesian-cross ewes produced more lambs and slightly more milk than Lacaune-cross ewes whereas Lacaune-cross ewes produced milk with a higher percentage of fat and protein than East Friesian-cross ewes. Lactation physiology studies have shown that ewes with active corpora lutea have increased milk yields, oxytocin release during milking is required to obtain normal fat percentages in the milk, large udder cisterns of dairy ewes can allow for increased milking intervals, and short daylengths during late pregnancy results in increased milk yield. In the nutrition area, legume-grass pastures and forages with a higher percentage of legume will result in increased milk production. Grazing ewes respond to additional supplementation with increased milk yield, but it is important to match the supplement to the quality of the grazing. Amalgamated gold-nanoalloys with enhanced catalytic activity for the detection of mercury ions(Hg^2+)in seawater samples

Mercury(Hg)is extremely toxic,and continues to cause major threats to aquatic life,human health and the ***^2+mainly derives from seawater as a product of atmospheric deposition,therefore there is great demand for sensing approaches that can detect Hg^2+in seawater ***,we demonstrate that the peroxidase-mimicking activity of gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)or so-called nanozymes,can be exploited for the detection of Hg^2+ions in various water *** a high electrolyte environment,the catalytic activity for the oxidation of 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine(TMB)was significantly diminished due to poor stability of the *** activity was reduced by-73.7%when the Nacl concentration was higher than 1.168%,which is much lower than that of seawater(-3.5%),thus presenting its unsuitability for detecting Hg^2+in harsh water *** overcome this limitation,AuNPs were first functionalized with oligo-ethylene glycol(OEG),of which their colloidal form presented high stability in Nacl concentrations up to 20%and across a wide range of pHs from ***,the catalytic activity of OEG-AuNPs for the oxidation of TMB was strongly suppressed by the coating,but enhanced upon formation of Au-Hg *** novel finding underlies a straightforward,sensitive,and highly selective detection platform for Hg^2+in water *** approach could detect the exposure limit level for Hg^2+in drinking water(i.e.,2 ppb for tap and bottled water)as set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)and the world Health Organization(wHO).when Hg^2+was spiked into a 3.5%saline solution and a coastal seawater certified reference material(cRM),the detection limits were found to be 10 ancM 3 ppb,respectively,which exceed the Hg^2+concentrations commonly found within seawater(-60-80 ppb).The whole procedure takes less than 45 min to conduct,providing a highly innovative,rapid and low-cost approach for detecting Hg^2+in complex water matrices.
