Coastal marine management is vital for socio-ecological sustainability of developing,tropical ecosystems,which calls for diverse tools to monitor and assess water *** carbonatedominated habitats off Zanzibar were chosen for study due to potential water quality degradation in a rapidly developing tourist destination heavily reliant on its coral *** reefs are largely unmonitored and subject to local and global stressors.A widely used method for assessing reef health,as an early detection method of ecological changes,is the application of large benthic foraminiferal bioindicators,i.e.,the Fo RAM *** expected to find poor water quality conditions in the unmanaged reefs supported by stress-toelerant(opportunistic)foraminiferal *** dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphate values derived from untreated sewage effluent from Stone Town were highly variable(ranging 0.05–3.77 and 0.05–1.45μM,respectively),moderate,and occasionally approached or exceeded critical threshold values for oligotrophic *** analysis of total assemblages indicated an abundance of symbiont-bearing large benthic foraminifera,dominated by prolific Amphistegina species,comparatively low-moderate diversity,high FI values(7.6 on average),and high coral cover.A water quality gradient was reflected by subtle assemblage differences,suggesting that LBF can provide early warning signals of benthic changes,indicating the importance of long-term monitoring programs in vulnerable,rapidly developing coastal ecosystems exposed to increasing pressures.

Objective With few studies investigating the effectiveness of telemedicine(TM)in pediatric otolaryngology(ear,nose,and throat;ENT),its role in clinical practice is *** objective of this study was to investigate provider perspectives regarding utility of TM in pediatric ENT *** A survey gauging the relative merits of TM visits for common pediatric ENT chief complaints and postoperative visits was distributed to all pediatric ENT providers at a tertiary care,free-standing children’s *** were asked to assess the effectiveness of TM visits compared with in-person visits for completing the following tasks:history collection,physical examination,medical decision-making,and patient *** Providers rated TM visits as less useful than in-person visits for completing the most predefined tasks but did identify advantages in history taking via TM for the majority of *** with providers with≥10 years of experience,those withd TM to be more effective than the in-person appointment for making clinical decisions for patients presenting with recurrent/chronic pharyngitis,neck masses,and stridor/noisy *** regarding the utility of TM for postoperative visits were mixed,with adenoidectomy,tonsillectomy and superficial procedures being most frequently deemed appropriate for *** The introduction of TM to pediatric ENT faces limitations in detailed examination of areas not accessible without specialized *** to its strength in history taking,results suggest an asynchronous,‘store and forward’encounter followed by an in-person physical examination to confirm the diagnosis and treatment plan could be beneficial.

Circadian Clock Genes Universally Control Key Agricultural Traits

Circadian clocks are endogenous timers that enable plants to synchronize biological processes with daily and seasonal environmental conditions in order to allocate resources during the most beneficial times of day and year. The circadian clock regulates a number of central plant activities, including growth, develop- ment, and reproduction, primarily through controlling a substantial proportion of transcriptional activity and protein function. This review examines the roles that alleles of circadian clock genes have played in domestication and improvement of crop plants. The focus here is on three groups of circadian clock genes essential to clock function in Arabidopsis thaliana： PSEUdO-RESPONSE REGULATORs, GIGANTEA, and the evening complex genes EARL Y FLOWERING 3, EARLY FLOWERING 4, and LUX ARRHYTHMO. Homol- ogous genes from each group underlie quantitative trait loci that have beneficial influences on key agricul- tural traits, especially flowering time but also yield, biomass, and biennial growth habit. Emerging insights into circadian clock regulation of other fundamental plant processes, including responses to abiotic and biotic stresses, are discussed to highlight promising avenues for further crop improvement.

BACKGROUNd Secondary forms and hypertension-mediated organ damage(HMOd) may differ between younger and older hypertensive *** aim of the present study was to explore the specificity of HMOd and secondary forms in patients≥ 65 years in comparison to younger ones in a contemporary *** We analysed 938 patients recruited between 2004 and 2014(Cardiology department,Croix-Rousse Hospital,Lyon)who had at baseline HMOd and secondary forms screening among them 190 were≥ 65 *** The mean(2.1±0.8 vs.1.2±0.9,P d frequency of HMOd(96.3% vs.72.9%,P 10 m/s was the most frequent HMOd in patients≥ 65 years(90.1%),while echocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy was the most common in the younger patients(45.0%).Among ECG left ventricular indexes,only R wave in aVL lead was significantly more frequently observed in patients≥ 65 years(32.6%) than in younger ones(19.0%,P dary hypertension was not significantly different between younger and older patients(respectively;30.5% vs.27.8%,P=0.487).The most frequent aetiology was primary aldosteronism regardless of age,followed by renovascular hypertension(6.3% vs.3.3%,P=0.038).Among older patients,3.2% were treated with adrenalectomy and 6.3% with percutaneous transluminal renal *** Extensive screening of HMOd in older patients may be questionable as nearly all patients had one;aetiology must however be explored as a third of older patients had a secondary form.

Endoscopic biliary treatment of unresectable cholangiocarcinoma: A meta-analysis of survival outcomes and systematic review

BACKGROUNd Endoscopic radiofrequency ablation(ERFA),percutaneous radiofrequency ablation(PRFA),and photodynamic therapy(PdT),when used in conjunction with conventional biliary stenting,have demonstrated a survival benefit in patients with unresectable *** To compare pooled survival outcomes,adverse event rates,and mean stent patency for those undergoing these *** A comprehensive literature review of published studies and abstracts from January 2011 to december 2020 was performed comparing survival outcomes in patients undergoing ERFA with stenting,biliary stenting alone,PRFA with stenting,and PdT with stenting for unresectable cholangiocarcinoma(CCA).RESULTS data from four studies demonstrated a pooled mean survival favoring ERFA as compared to biliary stenting alone(12.0±0.9 mo vs 6.8±0.3 mo,Pd median survival time(13 mo vs 8 mo,Pd PRFA with stenting groups demonstrated statistical superiority to biliary stenting alone(Pd P=0.004,respectively).However,when comparing ERFA to PRFA,pooled data demonstrated overall higher mean survival in the ERFA with stenting cohort as compared to PRFA with stent cohort(12.0+0.9 mo vs 8.1+2.1 mo,Pdata from two studies demonstrated a pooled median survival favoring ERFA with stenting as compared to PdT with stenting(11.3 mo vs 8.5 mo,P=0.02).CONCLUSION While further prospective,randomized studies are needed to assess efficacy of ERFA,our metaanalysis demonstrated that this technique offers endoscopists a reasonable palliative method by which to treat patients with unresectable CCA that results in longer survival as compared to biliary stenting alone,percutaneous radiofrequency ablation with biliary stenting,and PdT with biliary stenting as well as an acceptable adverse event profile based on available published data.

Prostate cancer （PCa） preferentially metastasizes to the bone marrow stroma of the axial skeleton. This activity is the principal cause of PCa morbidity and mortality. The exact mechanism of PCa metastasis is currently unknown, although considerable progress has been made in determining the key players in this process. In this review, we present the current understanding of the molecular processes driving PCa metastasis to the bone.

Importance of Viral disease in dairy Cow Fertility

Many viral diseases are endemic in cattle populations worldwide. The ability of many viruses to cross the placenta and cause abortions and fetal malformations is well understood. There is also significant evidence that viral infections have additional actions in dairy cows, which are reflected in reduced conception rates. These effects are, however, highly dependent on the time at which an individual animal first contracts the disease and are less easy to quantify. This paper reviews the evidence relating to five viruses that can affect fertility, together with their potential mechanisms of action. Acute infection with non-cytopathic bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVdV) in mid-gestation increases abortion rates or causes the birth of persistently infected calves. BVdV infections closer to the time of breeding can have direct effects on the ovaries and uterine endometrium, which cause estrous cycle irregularities and early embryo mortality. Fertility may also be reduced by BVdV-induced immunosuppression, which increases the susceptibility to bacterial infections. Bovine herpesvirus (BHV)-1 is most common in pre-pubertal heifers, and can slow their growth, delay breeding, and increase the age at first calving. Previously infected animals subsequently show reduced fertility. Although this may be associated with lung damage, ovarian lesions have also been reported. Both BHV-1 and BHV-4 remain latent in the host following initial infection and may be reactivated later by stress, for example associated with calving and early lactation. While BHV-4 infection alone may not reduce fertility, it appears to act as a co-factor with established bacterial pathogens such as Escherichia coli and Trueperella pyogenes to promote the development of endometritis and delay uterine repair mechanisms after calving. 3d displays: toward holographic video displays of 3d images

As the fiat panel displays （Liquid Crystal displays, AMOLEd, etc.） reach near perfection in their viewing qualities and display areas, it is natural to seek the next level of displays, including 3d displays. There is a strong surge in 3d liquid crystal displays as a result of the successful movie Avatar. Most of these 3d displays involve the employment of special glasses that allow one view perspective for each of the eyes to achieve a depth perception. Such displays are not real 3d displays. In fact, these displays can only provide one viewing perspective for all viewers, regardless of the viewer＇s position. In addition, a fundamental viewing problem of focusing and accommodation exist that can lead to discomfort and fatigue for many viewers. In this paper, the authors review the current status of stereoscopic 3d displays and their problems. The authors will also discuss the possibility of using fiat panels for the display of both phase and intensity of video image information, leading to the ultimate display of 3d holographic video images. Many of the fundamental issues and limitations will be presented and discussed.

Ageing evaluation of cable insulations subjected to radiation ageing:Application of principal component analyses to Fourier Transform Infra-Red and dielectric spectroscopy
