The longitudinal effect of parental support during adolescence on the trajectory of sport participation from adolescence through young adulthood

Background: One efficient way to increase physical activity is through sport participation because participation in sport activities inherently includes many enjoyable aspects, such as social interaction, competition, personal challenge, and goal achievement. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the longitudinal effect of parental support during adolescence on the trajectory of sport participation from adolescence through young ***: The data used in this study came from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health(Add Health). It is a 4-wave longitudinal study that followed up a nationally representative sample of middle and high school students in the US. A series of multilevel logistic regression models were used to examine the effect of parental support at Wave 1 on the trajectory of sport participation from Wave 1 to Wave ***: The effect of parental support during adolescence on participants' sport participation lasted until they become young adults(Wave 3)(p < 0.001). Among the male participants, parental support at Wave 1 was a significant predictor for sport participation at Waves 1, 2, and 3(p < 0.001). However, a significant effect of parental support at Wave 1 on sport participation in early young adulthood(Wave 3) becomes insignificant when adjusting for self-esteem and depression. Among the female participants, parental support at Wave 1 was a significant predictor for sport participation at Waves 1, 2, and 3(p < 0.01) even after depression and self-esteem were introduced into the model. Experimental investigation of friction coefficient in tube hydroforming

The friction coefficient between tube and die in guide zone of tube hydroforming was obtained. In hydroforming, the tube is expanded by an internal pressure against the tool wall. By pushing the tube through tool, a friction force at the contact surface between the tube and the tool occurs. In guiding zone, the friction coefficients between tube and die can be estimated from the measured axial feeding forces. In expansion zone, the friction coefficients between tube and die can be evaluated from the measured geometries of expanded tubes and FE analysis.

Impacts of optimization strategies on performance,power/energy consumption of a GPU based parallel reduction

In the era of modern high performance computing, GPUs have been considered an excellent accelerator for general purpose data-intensive parallel applications. To achieve application speedup from GPUs, many of performance-oriented optimization techniques have been proposed. However, in order to satisfy the recent trend of power and energy consumptions, power/energy-aware optimization of GPUs needs to be investigated with detailed analysis in addition to the performance-oriented optimization. In this work, in order to explore the impact of various optimization strategies on GPU performance, power and energy consumptions, we evaluate performance and power/energy consumption of a well-known application running on different commercial GPU devices with the different optimization strategies. In particular, in order to see the more generalized performance and power consumption patterns of GPU based accelerations, our evaluations are performed with three different Nvdia GPU generations(Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell architectures), various core clock frequencies and memory clock frequencies. We analyze how a GPU kernel execution is affected by optimization and what GPU architectural factors have much impact on its performance and power/energy consumption. This paper also categorizes which optimization technique primarily improves which metric(i.e., performance, power or energy efficiency). Furthermore, voltage frequency scaling(VFS) is also applied to examine the effect of changing a clock frequency on these metrics. In general, our work shows that effective GPU optimization strategies can improve the application performance significantly without increasing power and energy consumption.

Prediction of Melt Pool Dimension and Residual Stress Evolution with Thermodynamically-Consistent Phase Field and Consolidation Models during Re-Melting Process of SLM

Re-melting process has been utilized to mitigate the residual stress level in the selective laser melting(SLM)process in recent ***,the complex consolidation mechanism of powder and the different material behavior after the first laser melting hinder the direct implementation of the re-melting *** this work,the effects of re-melting on the temperature and residual stress evolution in the SLM process are investigated using a thermo-mechanically coupled finite element *** degree of consolidation is incorporated in the energy balance equation based on the thermodynamically-consistent phase-field *** drastic change of material properties due to the variation of temperature and material state is also *** the proposed simulation framework,the single-track scanning is simulated first to predict the melt pool dimension and validate the proposed model with the existing experimental *** obtained thermal histories reveal that the highest cooling rate is observed at the end of the local solidification time which acts as an important indicator for the alleviation of temperature ***,the scanning of a whole single layer that consists of multiple tracks is simulated to observe the stress evolution with several re-melting *** the full melting of powder material in the first scanning process,the increase of residual stress level is observed with one remelting ***,the predicted stress level with the re-melting process shows the variation trend attributable to the accumulated heat in the *** numerical issues and the detailed implementation process are also introduced in this paper.

The Characteristics of CLHS Driving for High Luminance Efficiency in AC PDP

This paper proposes a CLHS （Capacitor Less Half Sustain） driving method that is applied to a long gap panel to reduce the power consumption. In order to reduce the power consumption in moving images, the luminous efficiency should be improved at the low discharge load （〈25%）. The weight of reactive power consumption tends to increase as the low discharge load decreases. Thus, it is very important to improve the luminous efficiency at low discharge load. It is well known that a long gap panel improves the luminance and the luminous efficiency but it is very difficult to drive the panel due to high driving voltage. It is confirmed that the main factors which cause a long gap panel to increase the minimum driving voltages are not only a long discharge gap but also self-erasing discharge. Self-erasing discharge is generated between the address and sustain electrodes in a sustain period. The CLHS driving method can reduce the reactive power consumption in a sustain period because energy recovery capacitors were removed in the sustain circuit. The CLHS driving method can reduce the minimum driving voltage of the long gap panel because the self-erasing discharge was prevented. When the CLHS driving method was applied to the panel with an ITO gap of 100 μm, Vs and VA minimum voltages are reduced by about 9 V and 12 V compared with those of the normal driving method. The luminance and the luminous efficiency also increased by about 24.3% and 33.3% at the discharge load of 4% compared with those at the normal condition.

Effect of Deformation Temperature on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AZ31 Mg Alloy Processed by Differential-Speed Rolling

A differential-speed rolling(DSR) was applied to AZ31 magnesium alloy sample at different rolling temperatures of 473,523,573,and 623 K with 1-pass and 2-pass *** microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of the deformed samples were *** rolling temperature was found to be an important parameter affecting the microstructural *** DSR at 473 K,the microstructure was more homogeneous than that obtained after deformation by equal-speed rolling(ESR).The fully recrystallized microstructures were generated after DSR at 573 and 623 *** to mechanical properties,the yield strength(YS) and ultimate tensile strength(UTS) decreased monotonously with increasing rolling *** contrast,the elongation of the DSR-deformed samples was improved as the rolling temperature *** strain hardening exponent(n) calculated by Hollomon equation increased with increasing the rolling temperature,which would explain an increase in the uniform elongation.

Acheivement of Nano-Scale SiGe Layer with Discrete Ge Mole Fraction Profile Using Batch-Type HVCVD

The strained Si grown on the relaxed SiGe-on-insulator C-MOSFET's is a promising device for the future system LSI devices with the design rule of sub-micron. The achievement of the discrete Ge mole fraction in the SiGe layer is a key engineering in low-temperature SiGe epitaxial growth using HVCVD. The pre-flow of GeH4 gas enhanced the Ge mole fraction and SiGe layer thickness. In addition, the Ge mole fraction and SiGe layer thickness increases with the gas ratio of GeH4/SiH4 + GeH4, process temperature, and gas flow time. However, the haze was produced if the Ge mole fraction is above 22wt%. The discrete-like Ge mole fraction with 22 wt% in 10 nm SiGe layer was obtained by the pre-flow of GeH4 for 10 s, the mixture gas ratio of GeH4/SiH4 + GeH4 of 67%, and the gas flow time for 150 s at the process temperature of 550 C.

In research on small mobile robots and biomimetic robots, locomotion ability remains a major issue despite many advances in technology. However, evolution has led to there being many real animals capable of exceUent locomotion. This paper presents a ＂parasitic robot system＂ whereby locomotion abilities of an animal are applied to a robot task. We chose a turtle as our first host animal and designed a parasitic robot that can perform ＂operant conditioning＂. The parasitic robot, which is attached to the turtle, can induce object-tracking behavior of the turtle toward a Light Emitting Diode （LED） and positively reinforce the behavior through repeated stimulus-response interaction. After training sessions over five weeks, the robot could successfully control the direction of movement of the trained turtles in the waypoint navigation task. This hybrid animal-robot interaction system could provide an alternative solution to some of the limitations of conventional mobile robot systems in various fields, and could also act as a useful interaction system for the behavioral sciences.

The lattice Boltzmann method(LBM)has been widely employed in various areas of practical engineering to solve non-linear problems,due to such advantages as the simplicity of programming and the numerical *** this paper,a new numerical method for onedimensional(1D)consolidation analysis of saturated clay is proposed on the basis of the lattice Boltzmann *** first,the lattice Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook(LBGK)model is used for 1D consolidation problem of saturated clay subjected to time-dependent loading under different types of initial and boundary *** addition,the multiscale Chapman-Enskog expansion is applied to recover mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann equation to macroscopic consolidation *** a result of the numerical simulation for verification,the numerical results are proved to be in good agreement with the analytical solutions available in previous *** the evaluation of convergence and accuracy,it is demonstrated that the proposed method is more accurate and reliable than the finite difference method(FDM)for 1D consolidation analysis of saturated clay.

Iterative Semi-Supervised Learning Using Softmax Probability

For the classification problem in practice,one of the challenging issues is to obtain enough labeled data for ***,even if such labeled data has been sufficiently accumulated,most datasets often exhibit long-tailed distribution with heavy class imbalance,which results in a biased model towards a majority *** alleviate such class imbalance,semisupervised learning methods using additional unlabeled data have been ***,as a matter of course,the accuracy is much lower than that from supervised *** this study,under the assumption that additional unlabeled data is available,we propose the iterative semi-supervised learning algorithms,which iteratively correct the labeling of the extra unlabeled data based on softmax *** results show that the proposed algorithms provide the accuracy as high as that from the supervised *** validate the proposed algorithms,we tested on the two scenarios:with the balanced unlabeled dataset and with the imbalanced unlabeled *** both scenarios,our proposed semi-supervised learning algorithms provided higher accuracy than previous *** is available at https://***/Heewonchung92/iterative-semi-learning.
