Verification of gene expression profiles for colorectal cancer using 12 internet public microarray datasets

AIM:To verify gene expression profiles for colorectal cancer using 12 internet public microarray ***:Logistic regression analysis was performed,and odds ratios for each gene were determined between colorectal cancer(CRC)and *** microarray datasets of gSE 4107,4183,8671,9348,10961,13067,13294,13471,14333,15960,17538,and 18105,which included 519 cases of adenocarcinoma and 88 normal mucosa controls,were pooled and used to verify 17 selective genes from 3 published studies and estimate the external ***:We validated the 17 CRC-associated genes from studies by Chang et al(Model 1:5 genes),Marshall et al(Model 2:7 genes)and Han et al(Model 3:5genes)and performed the multivariate logistic regression analysis using the pooled 12 public microarray datasets as well as the external *** goodnessof-fit test of Hosmer-Lemeshow(H-L)showed statistical significance(P=0.044)for Model 2 of Marshall et al in which observed event rates did not match expected event rates in subgroups of the model *** and observed event rates in subgroups were similar,which are called well calibrated,in Models 1,3and 4 with non-significant P values of 0.460,0.194 and1.000 for H-L tests,respectively.A 7-gene model of CPEB4,EIF2S3,MgC20553,MS4A1,ANXA3,TNFAIP6and IL2RB was pairwise selected,which showed the best results in logistic regression analysis(H-L P=1.000,R2=0.951,areas under the curve=0.999,accuracy=0.968,specificity=0.966 and sensitivity=0.994).CONCLUSION:A novel gene expression profile was associated with CRC and can potentially be applied to blood-based detection assays.

目前,导电涂层已广泛应用于工业领域。如采用溅射技术在LCD或OLED平板加工过程中涂布ITO层,以及在电子印刷器件基材表面制备基极层。然而,传统涂布工艺(电子束溅射、旋转涂布等)在工业生产中存在一些问题:这些工艺不仅成本高,而且需要真空等苛刻的生产环境。近年来,研究人员已经提出用各种印刷工艺来替代传统的涂布工艺。本文提出将静电喷雾沉积(ESD)印刷工艺应用于ITO涂层和导电涂层的制备。此外,为了更好地应用静电喷雾沉积工艺,本文也研究了喷嘴和外加电压对不同类型喷头的影响。

Long term exposure of skin to high temperature induces activation of transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1(TRPV-1), as well as increase of matrix metalloprotease 9(MMP-9), which breaks down extracellular matrix in skin. Thus, along with photo-aging, heat also accelerates skin-aging as a long term effect. Here, heat-absorbing substances with heat energy-blocking effects were screened, and the blockage rate was calculated as "Thermal Protection Factor(TPF)". Herbal plant extracts such as Prunus Mume fruit extract and Chamaecyparis Obtusa polysaccharide were able to reduce skin damage by reducing TRPV-1 activation, heat-induced MMP-9 expression and other heat-induced inflammatory responses such as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1) expression. Also, a cream containing heat-absorbing and modulating actives showed statistically significant skin elasticity and redness-controlling effects in a clinical study.

This letter is emphasized on the discussion of the group velocity of disturbed galactic density waves(gDW),which is one of the two most insurmountable problems in the density waves *** our calculation,we find that the galactic thickness has an important effect on the *** dynamic time scale of gDW in our three-dimensional model can be prominently prolonged,from 36%to 60%contrasting to that of two-dimensional galactic ***,it is still less than the lifetime of our galaxy,which means that it is necessary to seek some other physical mechanisms to excite and sustain the gDW.

Risk factors for tuberculosis after gastrectomy in gastric cancer

AIM: To examine incidence of tuberculosis(TB) in gastrectomy patients and investigate the risk factors for developing TB after gastrectomy in patients with gastric ***: A retrospective cohort study of gastrectomy patients with gastric cancer was performed at a university-affiliated hospital in Seoul, South Korea between January 2007 and December 2009. We reviewed patient medical records and collected data associated with the risk of TB, surgery, and gastric cancer. Standardized incidence ratios(SIRs) of TB were calculated to compare the incidence of TB in gastrectomy patients with that in the general Korean population, and risk factors for TB after gastrectomies were ***: Among the 1776 gastrectomy patients, 0.9%(16/1776) developed post-gastrectomy TB, with an incidence of 223.7 cases per 100000 patients per year. The overall incidence of TB in gastrectomy patients, adjusted by sex and age, was significantly higher thanthat in the general population(SIR = 2.22, 95%CI: 1.27-3.60). Previous TB infection [odds ratio(OR) = 7.1, P g/m2; OR = 1.21, P = 0.043) and gastrectomy extent(total gastrectomy vs subtotal gastrectomy)(OR = 3.48, P = 0.017) were significant risk factors for TB after gastrectomy in a multivariate ***: TB incidence after gastrectomy is higher than that in the general population. Previous TB infection, lower BMI, and total gastrectomy are risk factors for TB after gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer.

Kinmen Island lacks fossil-fuel energy, However, it has rich potential for solar and wind energy resources because of its excellent climate and geographical location. Therefore, a large scale utilization of the renewable energy sources is favoured. In June 2004, the Kinmen County government published the Strategic Plan for the Sustainable Development of Kinmen, which focuses on maintaining the ecology of the islands. In the near future, a high penetration of renewable power can be predicted to be installed in this island. However, a large renewable energy penetration into a diesel power system would face technical and economic problems. Therefore, this study intends to discuss the system operation of the Kinmen system and investigates the original unit commitment scheduling. Based on the simulation results, a new unit commitment scheduling will be proposed in this work.

A Hybrid Unit Commitment Approach Incorporating Modified Priority List with Charged System Search Methods

This paper presents a new hybrid approach that combines Modified Priority List (MPL) with Charged System Search (CSS), termed MPL-CSS, to solve one of the most crucial power system’s operational optimization problems, known as unit commitment (UC) scheduling. The UC scheduling problem is a mixed-integer nonlinear problem, highly-dimensional and extremely constrained. Existing meta-heuristic UC solution methods have the problems of stopping at a local optimum and slow convergence when applied to large-scale, heavily-constrained UC applications. In the first step of the proposed method, initial hourly optimum solutions of UC are obtained by Modified Priority List (MPL);however, the obtained UC solution may still be possible to be further improved. Therefore, in the second step, the CSS is utilized to achieve higher quality solutions. The UC is formulated as mixed integer linear programming to ensure the tractability of the results. The proposed method is successfully applied to a popular test system up to 100 units generators for both 24-hr and 168-hr system. Computational results show that both solution cost and execution time are superior to those of published methods.

A Review of Technical Requirements for High Penetration of Wind Power Systems

Renewable portfolio targets have been established in many regions around the world. Regional targets such as 20% renewable energy by year 2020 are not uncommon. As the levels of wind power penetration increase, there are many power system impacts. This work investigated possible challenges and technical requirements for high penetration of wind power systems. The main issues to discuss covers reserve determination, wind power forecasting, unit commitment with appropriate generation portfolio, wind turbine and storage system technical development, demand response management, electricity market design, and frequency stability.
