Fluoro-functionalized plant biomass adsorbent:Preparation and application in extraction of trace perfluorinated compounds from environmental water samples

Perfuorinated compounds(PFCs)are toxic and widely present in the environment,and therefore effective adsorbents are required to remove PFCs from environmental *** the present study,a new type of fuorinated biomass materials was synthesized via an ingenious fuorosilanization *** adsorbents were applied for the adsorption of 13typical PFCs,including perfuorocarboxylic acids(PFCAs)and perfuorosulfonic acids(PFSAs).By comparing their adsorption performance,Fluorinated cedar slag(FCS)was discovered to have the best absorption efficiency and enabled highly efficient enrichment of *** adsorption recovery of FCS with the investigated PFCs is greater than 90%under the optimal adsorption *** to the high affinity of F-F sorbent-sorbate interaction,FCS had good adsorption capacities of PFCs from aqueous solution,with the maximum adsorption capacity of 15.80 mg/g for PFOS and 10.71 mg/g for PFOA,***,the adsorption time could be achieved in a short time(8 min).Using the FCS absorbent,an innovative FCS-solid phase extraction assisted with high performance liquid chromatography-electrospray-tandem mass spectrometry(FCS-SPE-HPLC-ESI-MS/MS)method was first developed to sensitively detect PFCs in the environmental water *** intra-day and inter-day recovery rates of the 13 compounds ranged from 90.7%-104.3%,with the RSD of 2.1%-4.7%(intra-day)and 2.5%-8.5%(inter-day),*** research demonstrates the potential of the newly fuoro-functionalized plant biomass to adsorb PFCs from environmental water,with the advantages of high adsorption efficiencies,high antiinterference,easy operation and low economic cost.

Effect of Inhaled Budesonide on Interleukin-4 and Interleukin-6 in Exhaled Breath Condensate of Asthmatic Patients

Background： Studies of interleukin （IL）-4 and IL-6 in the exhaled breath condensate （EBC） of asthmatic patients are limited. This study was to determine the effect of inhaled corticosteroid （ICS） treatment on IL-4 and IL-6 in the EBC ＆asthmatic patients. Methods： In a prospective, open-label study, budesonide 200 μg twice daily by dry powder inhaler was administered to 23 adult patients with uncontrolled asthma （mean age 42.7 years） for 12 weeks. Changes in asthma scores, lung function parameters （forced expiratory volume in 1 s [FEV1], peak expiratory flow [PEF], forced expiratory flow at 50% of forced vital capacity [FEFs0], forced expiratory flow at 75% of forced vital capacity, maximum mid-expiratory flow rate） and the concentrations of IL-4 and IL-6 in EBC were measured. Results： Both asthma scores and lung function parameters were significantly improved by ICS treatment. The mean IL-4 concentration in the EBC was decreased gradually, from 1.92 ± 0.56 pmol/L before treatment to 1.60 ± 0.36 pmolJL after 8 weeks of treatment （P 〈 0.05） and 1.54 ± 0.81 pmol/L after 12 weeks of treatment （P 〈 0.01）. However, the IL-6 concentration was not significantly decreased. The change in the IL-4 concentration was correlated with improvements in mean FEVt, PEF and FEFso values （correlation coefficients -0.468, -0.478, and -0.426, respectively）. Conclusions： The concentration of IL-4 in the EBC of asthmatic patients decreased gradually with ICS treatment. Measurement of IL-4 in EBC could be useful to monitor airway inflammation in asthmatics.

Optimal investment based on relative performance and weighted utility

This paper studies the optimal portfolio allocation of a fund manager when he bases decisions on both the absolute level of terminal relative performance and the change value of terminal relative performance comparison to a predefined reference point. We find the optimal investment strategy by maximizing a weighted average utility of a concave utility and an Sshaped utility via a concavification technique and the martingale method. Numerical results are carried out to show the impact of the extent to which the manager pays attention to the change of relative performance related to the reference point on the optimal terminal relative performance.

Mechanism of local solidification time variations with melt rate during vacuum arc remelting process of 8Cr4Mo4V high-strength steel

A 2D axisymmetric numerical model was established to investigate the variations of molten pool with different melt rates during the vacuum arc remelting of 8Cr4Mo4V high-strength steel,and the ingot growth was simulated by dynamic mesh *** results show that as the ingot grows,the molten pool profile changes from shallow and flat to V-shaped,and both the molten pool depth and the mushy width ***,the variation of both the molten pool shape and the mushy width melt rate is clarified by the thermal equilibrium *** melt rate increases,both the molten pool depth and the mushy width *** is caused by the increment in sensible heat stored in the ingot due to the limitation of the cooling capacity of the *** nonlinear increment in sensible heat leads to a nonlinear increase in the mushy *** addition,as melt rate increases,the local solidification time(LST)of ingot decreases obviously at first and then *** melt rate is controlled in a suitable range,LST is the lowest and the secondary dendrite arm spacing of the ingot is the smallest,which can effectively improve the compactness degree of 8Cr4Mo4V high-strength steel.

Effect of Platelet-rich Plasma in Stimulating Macrophage Transformation into M2 Type under AMPK Signaling Pathway

Objective: To explore the effect of platelet-rich plasma(RPR) in stimulating the transformation of pro-inflammatory(M1) macrophages into antiinflammatory(M2) under the adenosine-monophosphate-dependent protein kinase(AMPK) signaling pathway. Methods: Rat peritoneal macrophages(RAW264.7) were cultured and randomly divided into 8 groups: blank control group, LPS group, RPR group A, RPR group B, LPS+RPR(12 h) group, LPS+RPR(24 h) group A, LPS+RPR(24 h)group B, LPS+RPR(24 h) group C. RPR was prepared based on blood donors. The expressions of AMPK signaling pathway-related proteins(AMPK, ULK1, m TOR) and macrophage markers(i NOS, Arg-1) in the blank control group, LPS group, LPS+RPR(12 h)group and LPS+RPR(24 h) group were observed and compared. The expressions of macrophage markers in LPS+RPR(24 h) B and C groups were compared, and the expressions of AMPK and TGF-β in RPR A and B groups were compared. Results: The gray values of AMPK and ULK1 in LPS cells decreased significantly, while those in LPS+RPR(12 h) and LPS+RPR(24 h) A cells increased significantly. The gray values of AMPK and ULK1 in LPS+RPR(24 h) A cells were higher than those in LPS+RPR(12 h)cells(P<0.05). The m TOR gray value of LPS cells was significantly higher than that of LPS+RPR(24 h) A cells, and the m TOR gray value of LPS+RPR(24 h) A cells was significantly lower than that of LPS+RPR(12 h) cells(P<0.05). The expression of i NOS in LPS cells was significantly decreased, the expression of i NOS in LPS+RPR(12 h) and LPS+RPR(24 h) cells was significantly increased, and the expression of i NOS in LPS+RPR(24 h) cells was higher than that in LPS+RPR(12 h) cells(P<0.05). The expression of Arg-1 in LPS cells was significantly decreased, the expression of Arg-1 in LPS+RPR(12 h) and LPS+RPR(24 h) A cells was significantly increased, and the expression of Arg-1 in LPS+RPR(24 h) A cells was higher than that in LPS+RPR(12 h)cells(P<0.05). Molecular mechanism for the unusual enhancement of the second-step chemiluminescence production from the carcinogenic tetrabromohydroquinone and H2O_(2)

We have found recently that two-step intrinsic hydroxyl radical(·OH)-dependent chemiluminescence(CL)could be produced by carcinogenic tetrahaloquinone and H_(2)O_(2).However,the first-step CL was too fast to clearly detect the stepwise generation of·OH and CL,and to distinguish the exact dividing point between the first-step and second-step *** we found that,extremely clear two-step intrinsic CL could be produced by the relative slow reaction of tetrabromohydroquinone(TBHQ)with H_(2)O_(2),which was directly dependent on the two-step·OH ***,the second-step,but not the first-step CL production of TBHQ/H_(2)O_(2)(CRET donor)was markedly enhanced by fluorescein(a typical xanthene dye,CRET acceptor)through a unique chemiluminescence resonance energy transfer(CRET)*** novel CRET system of TBHQ/H_(2)O_(2)/fluorescein was successfully applied for the sensitive detection of TBHQ with the detection limit as low as 2.5μmol/*** findings will help to develop more sensitive and highly efficient CL or CRET systems and specific CL sensor to detect the carcinogenic haloquinones,which may have broad environmental applications.

Vortex identification based on the Liutex method and its effect on fish passage upstream

Fishway research is important for mitigating the fragmentation of river habitats caused by hydraulic *** vertical slit fishway is a broadly used fishway type because of its high efficiency and adaptability to water ***,the resulting vortex current disrupts the fish passage hence directly affecting fish *** study aims to accurately capture the vortex structure in the fishway and analyze the effect of vortex elements(vortex structure,vortex intensity,etc.)on *** conducted an analysis of the 3-D current flow field in the fishway through the utilization of an experimental model and the large eddy simulation(LES)***,we captured the vortex information in the fishway at different flow rates using the Liutex vortex identification method and investigated the effect of the vortex on fish *** results revealed that the structures inside the fishway pool occupy most of the room,however,the areas with higher vortex strength were primarily located in the vortex near the vertical seam and the mainstream,the vortex strength inside the fishway gradually increases with increasing flow,suppressing fish *** experienced significantly increased resistance when encountering strong *** suggests that the vortex may act as a physical barrier to fish *** findings highlight the potential negative effects of vortex on fish movement and reiterate the importance of understanding vortex dynamics for aquatic environmental *** an effective tool for identifying vortices in fluid flow,the Liutex method demonstrates features of vortex within the fishway,thereby providing important insights into the interaction between fluid dynamics and aquatic organisms.

The dynamics beamline(D-Line),which combines synchrotron radiation infrared spectroscopy(SR-IR)and energy-disper-sive X-ray absorption spectroscopy(ED-XAS),is the first beamline in the world to realize concurrent ED-XAS and SR-IR measurements at the same sample position on a millisecond time-resolved *** combined technique is effective for investigating rapid structural changes in atoms,electrons,and molecules in complicated disorder systems,such as those used in physics,chemistry,materials science,and extreme ***,ED-XAS and SR-IR can be used independently in the two branches of the *** ED-XAS branch is the first ED-XAS beamline in china,which uses a tapered undulator light source and can achieve approximately 2.5×10^(12)photons/s·300 eV BW@7.2 keV at the sample *** exchange-able polychromator operating in the Bragg-reflection or Laue-transmission configuration is used in different energy ranges to satisfy the requirements for beam size and energy *** focused beam size is approximately 3.5μm(H)×21.5μm(V),and the X-ray energy range is 5–25 *** one-and two-dimensional position-sensitive detectors with frame rates of up to 400 kHz enables time resolutions of tens of microseconds to be *** distinctive techniques,such as the concurrent measurement of in situ ED-XAS and infrared spectroscopy,time-resolved ED-XAS,high-pressure ED-XAS,XMCD,and pump-probe ED-XAS,can be applied to achieve different scientific goals.

Uncertainties of landslide susceptibility prediction: Influences of random errors in landslide conditioning factors and errors reduction by low pass filter method

In the existing landslide susceptibility prediction(LSP)models,the influences of random errors in landslide conditioning factors on LSP are not considered,instead the original conditioning factors are directly taken as the model inputs,which brings uncertainties to LSP *** study aims to reveal the influence rules of the different proportional random errors in conditioning factors on the LSP un-certainties,and further explore a method which can effectively reduce the random errors in conditioning *** original conditioning factors are firstly used to construct original factors-based LSP models,and then different random errors of 5%,10%,15% and 20%are added to these original factors for con-structing relevant errors-based LSP ***,low-pass filter-based LSP models are constructed by eliminating the random errors using low-pass filter ***,the Ruijin County of china with 370 landslides and 16 conditioning factors are used as study *** typical machine learning models,*** perceptron(MLP),support vector machine(SVM)and random forest(RF),are selected as LSP ***,the LSP uncertainties are discussed and results show that:(1)The low-pass filter can effectively reduce the random errors in conditioning factors to decrease the LSP uncertainties.(2)With the proportions of random errors increasing from 5%to 20%,the LSP uncertainty increases continuously.(3)The original factors-based models are feasible for LSP in the absence of more accurate conditioning factors.(4)The influence degrees of two uncertainty issues,machine learning models and different proportions of random errors,on the LSP modeling are large and basically the same.(5)The Shapley values effectively explain the internal mechanism of machine learning model predicting landslide *** conclusion,greater proportion of random errors in conditioning factors results in higher LSP uncertainty,and low-pass filter can effectively reduce these random e
