Hydrodynamic characteristics and particle tracking of 90° lateral intakes at an inclined river slope

Lateral intakes are common in *** pump effciency and sediment deposition are determined by the local hydrodynamic characteristics and mainstream division *** hydraulic characteristics of lateral withdrawal from inclined river slopes at different intake elevations should be ***,the division width exhibits significant vertical non-uniformity at an inclined river slope,which should be ***,a three-dimensional(3-D)hydrodynamic and particle-tracking model was developed with the Open Source Field Operation and Manipulation(Open FOAM),and the model was validated with physical model tests for 90°lateral withdrawal from an inclined side *** flow fields,withdrawal sources,and division widths were investigated with different intake bottom elevations,withdrawal discharges,and main channel *** study showed that under inclined side bank conditions,water entered the intake at an oblique angle,causing significant 3-D spiral flows in the intake rather than two-dimensional closed recirculation.A lower withdrawal discharge,a lower bottom elevation of the intake,or a higher main channel velocity could further strengthen this *** average division width and turbulent kinetic energy were smaller under inclined side bank conditions than under vertical bank *** a low intake bottom elevation,a low withdrawal discharge,or a high main channel velocity,the sources of lateral withdrawal were in similar ranges near the local inclined bank in the vertical *** inclined slope conditions,sediment deposition near the intake entrance could be reduced,compared to that under vertical slope *** results provide hydrodynamic and sediment references for engineering designs for natural rivers with inclined terrains.

Geochemical compositions can be used to determine the tectonic setting of sedimentary basins,while where the link of source to sink is no longer preserved,detrital zircon age patterns can aid in resolving the original basin *** metasedimentary Legoupil Formation,located at Cape Legoupil and the Schmidt Peninsula,could give a hint for the tectonic evolution of Antarctic *** this contribution,we constrain the sedimentary provenance of the Legoupil Formation through geochemistry and detrital zircon U-Pb *** petrography and geochemical features indicate that the provenance of the Legoupil Formation could be felsic *** zircon grains record a steady supply of Permian and Ordovician material into the Legoupil *** youngest concordant zircon ages of 262 Ma suggest that the depositional time of Legoupil Formation is no older than Late *** detrital zircon age spectrum of Legoupil Formation suggests that the Legoupil Formation sediments should be derived from regional sources endemic to western Gondwana prior to its *** with the previous studies,geochemistry and detrital zircons reflect an active continental margin tectonic setting and the detrital zircon spectra of Legoupil Formation are similar to the ones deposited in forearc tectonic setting.

Flow-electrode capacitive deionization(FCDI)is an innovative technology in which an intermediate chamber plays an important role in the desalination ***,relatively few studies have been conducted on the structures of these intermediate *** this study,we propose a novel flow-electrode capacitive deionization device with a spindle-shaped inlet chamber(S-FCDI).The desalination rate of the S-FCDI under optimal operating conditions was 36%higher than that of the FCDI device with a conventional rectangular chamber(R-FCDI).The spindle-shaped chamber transferred 1.2μmol more ions than the rectangular chamber,based on energy per ***,we performed a detailed analysis of different inlet chamber shapes using computational fluid dynamics *** concluded that S-FCDI has a relatively low flow resistance and almost no stagnation *** provides unique insights into the development of intermediate *** study may contribute to the improvement of the desalination performance in industrial applications of FCDI.

Synchrotron tomography experiments are transitioning into multifunctional,cross-scale,and dynamic characterizations,enabled by new-generation synchrotron light sources and fast developments in beamline ***,with the spatial and temporal resolving power entering a new era,this transition generates vast amounts of data,which imposes a significant burden on the data processing ***,as a highly accurate and efficient data processing method,deep learning shows great potential to address the big data challenge being encountered at future synchrotron *** this review,we discuss recent advances employing deep learning at different stages of the synchrotron tomography data processing *** also highlight how applications in other data-intensive fields,such as medical imaging and electron tomography,can be migrated to synchrotron ***,we provide our thoughts on possible challenges and opportunities as well as the outlook,envisioning selected deep learning methods,curated big models,and customized learning strategies,all through an intelligent scheduling solution.

Mechanism and control of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel during cooling process after hot rolling

After cooling in the hot rolling process,the metallographic structure of microalloyed dual-phase steel is nonuniform along the rolling direction,while the thickness fluctuation of microalloyed dual-phase steel with a nonuniform metallographic structure will occur during cold *** mechanism of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steels was studied during the cooling process after hot rolling,and the nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel was regulated during the cooling process after hot rolling through process ***,the empirical equation of phase transformation temperature was measured by a dilatometer considering thermal ***,the phase field and temperature field of laminar cooling process were calculated to provide initial boundary conditions for the finite element *** that,the coupling finite element model of the temperature phase transformation of the strip steel in coiling transportation process was *** simulation results show that the different thermal contact conditions of the microalloyed dual-phase steel during coil transportation lead to uneven cooling of the coil,which leads to nonuniform transformation of the coil along the rolling *** addition,by prolonging the time interval from coiling to unloading,the phenomenon of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel can be effectively *** simulation results are applied to industrial *** application results show that prolonging the time interval from coiling to unloading can effectively improve the nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel in the cooling process after hot rolling.

In this study,a novel iron-based catalyst system,Fe(acac)3/(isocyanoimino)triptenylphosphorane(IITP)/AlR3,was employed for the synthesis of syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene in *** catalyst system exhibits remarkably high catalytic activity,achieving a polymerization activity of 762 kgpolymer·molcatalyst^(-1)·h^(-1)at 50℃with a[BD]/[Fe]molar ratio of ***,living polymerization characteristic were observed during the investigation of the polymerization kinetics of 1,3-butadiene *** characteristics were well demonstrated by a narrow molecular weight distribution(PDI≈2.0)of the resulting polybutadiene and a linear relationship between-ln(1-c)and polymerization time as well as number average molecular weight and polymer *** resultant polymer showed a 1,2-selectivity of approximately 76%and stereoregularity ranging from 62%to 73%(rrrr).Additionally,through kinetic studies on polymerization reaction,an apparent activation energy Ea value of this catalytic system was calculated to be 84.98 kJ·mol^(-1),which suggests that high polymerization temperature favors efficient polymerization.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor and gastrointestinal *** dysfunction can precede the onset of motor symptoms by several *** microbiota dysbiosis is involved in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease,whether it plays a causal role in motor dysfunction,and the mechanism underlying this potential effect,remain ***/enhancer binding proteinβ/asparagine endopeptidase(C/EBPβ/AEP)signaling,activated by bacterial endotoxin,can promoteα-synuclein transcription,thereby contributing to Parkinson’s disease *** this study,we aimed to investigate the role of the gut microbiota in C/EBPβ/AEP signaling,α-synuclein-related pathology,and motor symptoms using a rotenone-induced mouse model of Parkinson’s disease combined with antibiotic-induced microbiome depletion and fecal microbiota *** found that rotenone administration resulted in gut microbiota dysbiosis and perturbation of the intestinal barrier,as well as activation of the C/EBP/AEP pathway,α-synuclein aggregation,and tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neuron loss in the substantia nigra in mice with motor ***,treatment with rotenone did not have any of these adverse effects in mice whose gut microbiota was depleted by pretreatment with ***,we found that transplanting gut microbiota derived from mice treated with rotenone induced motor deficits,intestinal inflammation,and *** of fecal microbiota from healthy control mice alleviated rotenone-induced motor deficits,intestinal inflammation,endotoxemia,and intestinal barrier *** results highlight the vital role that gut microbiota dysbiosis plays in inducing motor deficits,C/EBPβ/AEP signaling activation,andα-synuclein-related pathology in a rotenone-induced mouse model of Parkinson’s ***,our findings suggest that supplementing with healthy microbiota may be a safe and effective treatment that c

Saliency-guided meta-hallucinator for few-shot learning

Learning novel object concepts from limited samples remains a considerable challenge in deep learning. The main directions for improving the few-shot learning models include(i) designing a stronger backbone,(ii) designing a powerful(dynamic) meta-classifier, and(iii) using a larger pre-training set obtained by generating or hallucinating additional samples from the small scale dataset. In this paper, we focus on item(iii) and present a novel meta-hallucination strategy. Presently, most image generators are based on a generative network(i.e., GAN) that generates new samples from the captured distribution of images. however, such networks require numerous annotated samples for training. In contrast, we propose a novel saliency-based end-to-end meta-hallucinator, where a saliency detector produces foregrounds and backgrounds of support images. Such images are fed into a two-stream network to hallucinate feature samples directly in the feature space by mixing foreground and background feature samples. Then, we propose several novel mixing strategies that improve the quality and diversity of hallucinated feature ***, as not all saliency maps are meaningful or high quality, we further introduce a meta-hallucination controller that decides which foreground feature samples should participate in mixing with backgrounds. To our knowledge, we are the first to leverage saliency detection for few-shot learning. Our proposed network achieves state-of-the-art results on publicly available few-shot image classification and anomaly detection benchmarks, and outperforms competing sample mixing strategies such as the so-called Manifold Mixup.

A composite material comprising a carbon layer and spherical carbon/carbon cloth(C-SC/CC)was fabricated using a hydrothermal-pyrolysis method,employing carbon cloth as the substrate and glucose as the carbon *** C-SC/CC electrode was evaluated as an electrocatalytic electrode for hydrogen production by electrolysis of Bunsen reaction *** electrode prepared with 4 g of glucose and annealed at 800°C showed excellent electrocatalytic *** requires only a potential of 185 mV(***)to achieve a current density of 10 mA/***,the electrode demonstrated good stability with a 6%loss in current density after 1000 cycles of scanning from 0.2 V to 1.2 *** results indicate the potential of the SC/CC electrode as an efficient and durable electrocatalyst for the electrolysis of H2SO4 and HI.

Machine learning-based predictions of current and future susceptibility to retrogressive thaw slumps across the Northern Hemisphere

Retrogressive thaw slumps(RTSs)caused by the thawing of ground ice on permafrost slopes have dramatically increased and become a common permafrost hazard across the Northern Hemisphere during previous ***,a gap remains in our comprehensive understanding of the spatial controlling factors,including the climate and terrain,that are conducive to these RTSs at a global *** machine learning methodologies,we mapped the current and future RTSs susceptibility distributions by incorporating a range of environmental factors and RTSs *** identified freezing-degree days and maximum summer rainfall as the primary environmental factors affecting RTSs *** final ensemble susceptibility map suggests that regions with high to very high susceptibility could constitute(11.6±0.78)%of the Northern Hemisphere's permafrost *** juxtaposed with the current(2000-2020)RTSs susceptibility map,the total area with high to very high susceptibility could witness an increase ranging from(31.7±0.65)%(SSP585)to(51.9±0.73)%(SSP126)by the *** insights gleaned from this study not only offer valuable implications for engineering applications across the Northern Hemisphere,but also provide a long-term insight into the potential change of RTSs in permafrost regions in response to climate change.
