Characteristics of the water-soluble components of aerosol particles in Hefei,China

Size-classified daily aerosol mass concentrations and concentrations of water-soluble inorganic ions were measured in Hefei,China,in four representative months between September 2012 and August *** annual average mass concentration of 169.09μg/m^3 for total suspended particulate（TSP）was measured using an Andersen Mark-II cascade *** seasonal average mass concentration was highest in winter（234.73μg/m^3）and lowest in summer（91.71μg/m^3）.Water-soluble ions accounted for 59.49%,32.90%,48.62%and 37.08%of the aerosol mass concentration in winter,spring,summer,and fall,respectively,which indicated that ionic species were the primary constituents of the atmospheric *** four most abundant ions were NO3^-,SO4^2-,Ca^2＋ and NH4^＋.With the exception of Ca^2＋,the mass concentrations of water-soluble ions were in an intermediate range compared with the levels for other Chinese ***,nitrate,and ammonium were the dominant fine-particle species,which were bimodally distributed in spring,summer and fall;however,the size distribution became unimodal in winter,with a peak at 1.1–2.1μ*** Ca^2＋ peak occurred at approximately 4.7–5.8μm in all *** cation to anion ratio was close to 1.4,which suggested that the aerosol particles were alkalescent in *** average NO3^-/SO4^2-mass ratio was 1.10 in Hefei,which indicated that mobile source emissions were *** positive correlation coefficients between the concentrations of NH4^＋ and SO4^2-,NH4^＋ and NO3^-,SO4^2-and NO3^-,and Mg^2＋ and Ca^2＋ were also indicated,suggesting that aerosol particles may be present as（NH4）2SO4,NH4HSO4,and NH4NO3.

Catalytic atroposelective synthesis of indolyl quinazolinones bearing N-N/C-C diaxes

The first catalytic atroposelective synthesis of indole derivatives bearing N-N/C-C diaxes has been established by the strategy of de novo ring formation. By this strategy, various indolyl quinazolinones bearing vicinal N-N/C-C diaxes were synthesized in high yields with overall good diastereoselectivities and excellent enantioselectivities via chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed onepot asymmetric formal (5+1) cycloaddition/oxidation reaction. Moreover, such indolyl quinazolinones bearing vicinal N-N/CC diaxes have good configurational stability and could be converted into new chiral ligands with applications in asymmetric catalysis. Therefore, this work not only offered a new member for the family of diaxial atropisomers, but also provided a powerful strategy for catalytic asymmetric synthesis of atropisomers bearing N-N/C-C diaxes.

Dear editor, Phenotypic drug discovery, which observes compound effects on physiology,has given way to targeting specific molecules, but has revived by using modern methods to find drugs based on therapeutic outcomes in disease models(Vincent et al., 2022). Osteoarthritis(OA) is a prevalent chronic joint disorder, primarily affecting knee joints, with osteoclast activation due to low-grade inflammation resulting in increased bone resorption and structural changes in the joint(Katz et al.,2021).

An investigation on the wind profiles and gravity wave dynamics in MLT region based on the meteor radars from the Meridian Project

The meteor radar can detect the zenith angle,azimuth,radial velocity,and altitude of meteor trails so that one can invert the wind profiles in the mesosphere and low thermosphere(MLT)region,based on the Interferometric and Doppler *** this paper,the horizontal wind field,gravity wave(GW)disturbance variance,and GW fluxes are analyzed through the meteor radar observation from 2012−2022,at Mohe(53.5°N,122.4°e)and Zuoling(30.5°N,114.6°e)stations of the(Chinese)Meridian *** Lomb−Scargle periodogram method has been utilized to analyze the periodic variations for time series with observational data *** results show that the zonal winds at both stations are eastward dominated,while the meridional winds are southward *** variance of GW disturbances in the zonal and meridional directions increases gradually with height,and there is a strong pattern of annual *** zonal momentum flux of GW changes little with height,showing weak annual *** meridional GW flux varies gradually from northward to southward with height,and the annual periodicity is *** both stations,the maximum values of zonal and meridional wind occur close to the peak heights of GW flux,with opposite *** observational evidence is consistent with the filtering *** horizontal wind velocity,GW flux,and disturbance variance of the GW at Mohe are overall smaller than those at Zuoling,indicating weaker activities in the MLT at *** power spectral density(PSD)calculated by the Lomb−Scargle periodogram shows that there are 12-month period and 6-month period in horizontal wind field,GW disturbance variance and GW flux at both stations,and especially there is also a 4-month cycle in the disturbance *** PSD of the 12-month and 6-month cycles exhibits maximum values below 88 km and above 94 km.

AQDS enhances Degradation of BDe-47 by Promoting Shewanella oneidensis MR-1-mediated Fenton Reaction with Fe(III)-containing Minerals

electron shuttles are widespread in the environments and play important role in microbe-mineral interaction. This study investigated the effects of a model electron shuttle (i.e.， anthraquinone-2， 6-disulfonate， AQDS) on Shewanella oneidensis MR-1-mediated Fenton reaction and subsequent degradation of 2， 2′， 4， 4′-tetrabrominated diphenyl ether (BDe-47). Three Fe(III)-containing minerals， namely， ferrihydrite， goethite and nontronite， were used as electron acceptors and Fe(II) sources. With each mineral， additions of 0.01 – 1 mM AQDS in the reactions significantly enhanced Fe(III) reduction by S. oneidensis MR-1 and increased the amounts of Fe(II) produced in anoxic phase. As a result， the amounts of cumulative ·OH formed in oxic phase were increased by 10% – 287%. Regression analysis revealed that ·OH cumulation has significant linear correlation with sorbed Fe(II) but not aqueous and structural Fe(II). This finding may be ascribed to the higher reactivity of sorbed Fe(II) in oxygenation than the latter two types of Fe(II). With more ·OH， the degradation efficiency of BDe-47 was elevated by 31% – 173%. Collectively， AQDS enhances ·OH formation and BDe-47 degradation by promoting production of Fe(II)， particularly sorbed Fe(II) in S. oneidensis MR-1-mediated Fenton reaction with Fe(III)-containing minerals.

The e3 ubiquitin ligase,carboxyl terminus of heat shock protein 70(Hsp70)interacting protein(CHIP),also functions as a co-chaperone and plays a crucial role in the protein quality control *** this study,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effect of overexpressed CHIP on Alzheimer’s *** used an adeno-associated virus vector that can cross the blood-brain barrier to mediate CHIP overexpression in APP/PS1 mouse *** overexpression significantly ameliorated the performance of APP/PS1 mice in the Morris water maze and nest building tests,reduced amyloid-βplaques,and decreased the expression of both amyloid-βand phosphorylated *** also alleviated the concentration of microglia and astrocytes around *** APP/PS1 mice of a younger age,CHIP overexpression promoted an increase in ADAM10 expression and inhibitedβ-site APP cleaving enzyme 1,insulin degrading enzyme,and neprilysin *** of HSP70 and HSP40,which have functional relevance to CHIP,were also *** nuclei transcriptome sequencing in the hippocampus of CHIP overexpressed mice showed that the lysosomal pathway and oligodendrocyte-related biological processes were up-regulated,which may also reflect a potential mechanism for the neuroprotective effect of *** research shows that CHIP effectively reduces the behavior and pathological manifestations of APP/PS1 ***,overexpression of CHIP could be a beneficial approach for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

Upcycling of polyethylene terephthalate to1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol in water

The recycling of waste polyethylene terephthalate（PeT）, an extensively used polymer as plastic and fiber materials, has become an urgent topic due to the rapid generation and accumulation of plastic waste into the environment. Current chemical recycling approaches to depolymerize and convert PeT into 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol（CHDM）, an important chemical in the production of advanced polyesters, predominantly use organic solvents, such as alcohols or dioxane. Herein, we developed an environmentally friendly and economically viable pathway for converting PeT to CHDM using water as the solvent. In this process, PeT is sequentially hydrolyzed in water, hydrogenated to 1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid（CHDA）, and then reduced to CHDM. The PeT conversion rate is self-enhanced in aqueous medium via acid-catalyzed hydrolysis by the generated CHDA intermediate. A Pd-based catalyst（e.g., Pd/C） selectively hydrogenates the arene ring of the PeT monomer, terephthalic acid intermediate, and a Ru-Sn/C bimetallic catalyst reduces its COOH to CH2OH group. At optimized reaction conditions, a complete conversion of PeT and 80.1% yield of CHDM are obtained. Alternatively, this approach can also efficiently produce CHDA from PeT, with a yield up to 86.4%.

Valence electron structure and hydrogen storage property of LaNi_-4Co

In the present study, two models of atom occupation in LaNi4Co were put forward and corresponding valence electron structures （VeSs） of these two models were investigated according to empirical electron theory （eeT） of solids and molecules. Results demonstrate that the VeS-concerned hardness factor （FH） of LaNi4Co is lower than that of LaNi5, so LaNi4Co has lower hardness, higher plasticity and improved anti-pulverization ability. In the mean time, the difference of the equilibrium hydrogen pressure between LaNiaCo and LaNi5 was analyzed in the electronic level. The analysis shows that the strength of the weakest bond net in octahedron lattice interstices of LaNi4Co is much lower than that in LaNis; consequently, LaNi4Co＇s bond net easily deforms to accommodate hydrogen so that LaNi4Co has lower equilibrium hydrogen pressure in comparison with LaNis. The results can provide some theory guide on the design of hydrogen storage alloys.

The control of red water occurrence and opportunistic pathogens risks in drinking water distribution systems:A review

Many problems in drinking water distribution systems(DWDSs)are caused by microbe,such as biofilm formation,biocorrosion and opportunistic pathogens *** iron release from corrosion scales may induce red *** played great roles on the *** iron-oxidizing bacteria(IOB)promoted ***,when iron-reducing bacteria(IRB)and nitrate-reducing bacteria(NRB)became the main bacteria in biofilm,they could induce iron redox cycling in corrosion *** process enhanced the precipitation of iron oxides and formation of more Fe3 O4 in corrosion scales,which inhibited corrosion ***,the IRB and NRB in the biofilm can reduce iron release and red water ***,there are many opportunistic pathogens in biofilm of *** opportunistic pathogens growth in DWDSs related to the bacterial community changes due to the effects of *** increased the number of bacteria with antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs).Furthermore,extracellular polymeric substances(ePS)production was increased by the antibiotic resistant bacteria,leading to greater bacterial aggregation and adsorption,increasing the chlorine-resistance capability,which was responsible for the enhancement of the particle-associated opportunistic pathogens in ***,O3-biological activated carbon filtration-UV-Cl2 treatment could be used to control the iron release,red water occurrence and opportunistic pathogens growth in DWDSs.

The main aim of this paper is to study tile convergence of a nonconforming triangular plate element-Morley element under anisotropic meshes. By a novel approach, an explicit bound for the interpolation error is derived for arbitrary triangular meshes （which even need not satisfy the maximal angle condition and the coordinate system condition ）, the optimal consistency error is obtained for a family of anisotropically graded finite element meshes.
