Carbon footprint and carbon neutrality pathway of green tea in China

With the rising popularity of the concept of“carbon neutralization”,low-carbon products are likely to gain more *** to this,green tea-an important beverage that is widely consumed in China-along with emissions from planting,processing,and use phase should be given ***,quantifying the carbon footprint(CF)of green tea is an essential task in developing the pathway to carbon *** this study,we quantified the CF and mitigation potential of green tea through life cycle assessment,after which we investigated the pathway toward carbon neutrality in 16 major tea-producing regions(except Hainan and Taiwan)in *** system boundary was divided into six subsystems from cradle to grave:cultivation,processing,transport,packaging,consumption,and *** results showed that the total carbon emissions of green tea reached 44.13 Mt CO_(2)eq in 2019,of which 43%came from consumption and 28%from *** were 18.78 Mt CO_(2)eq emissions from fertilizer production and application,while there was a 7.71 Mt CO_(2)eq carbon sink of tea *** average carbon intensity was 24.30 kg CO_(2)eq kg−1 tea,while Shandong and Guizhou ranked as the top two ***,Hubei,and Yunnan Provinces had the largest amounts of carbon emissions at 6.79,6.14,and 5.96 Mt CO_(2)eq,*** 2030,2050 and 2060,total carbon emissions would be reduced by 46%,63%,and 86%,respectively,under carbon neutrality assumption.A small amount of 6.14 Mt CO_(2)eq carbon emissions was retained to be offset by carbon trading or zero-carbon ***,the results indicate that adopting low-carbon fertilizers and clean energies will be a key entry point for carbon-neutral green tea.

Melanoma originates from epidermal melanocytes and is the most malignant form of skin cancer,with an increasing incidence *** addition to the known pathological mutations in melanoma,the remodeling of epigenetic modification has recently been documented to orchestrate the malignant behaviors of tumor cells and anti-tumor immunity,emerging as an irreversible tumorigenic event that is more preventable and treatable with *** a hallmark characteristic of cancer,the disorder of cellular metabolism is also greatly implicated in tumor carcinogenesis and *** evidence has revealed the close linkage between metabolism and epigenetics in multiple biological *** the pathogenesis of melanoma,the findings of other groups and our laboratory highlight the pivotal role of autophagy,mitochondrial function,and the oncometabolite acetyl-CoA,as well as their epigenetic *** metabolism-associated epigenetic modulation might be a novel approach for melanoma therapy in the future.

The preparation and application of N-terminal 57 amino acid protein of the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor as a candidate male contraceptive vaccine

Follicle-stimulating hormone receptor （FSHR）, which is expressed only on Sertoli cells and plays a key role in spermatogenesis, has been paid attention for its potential in male contraception vaccine research and development. This study introduces a method for the preparation and purification of human FSHR 57-amino acid protein （FSHR-57aa） as well as determination of its immunogenicity and antifertility effect. A recombinant pET-28a（＋）-FSHR-57aa plasmid was constructed and expressed in Escherichia coil strain BL21 StarTM （DE3） and the FSHR-57aa protein was separated and collected by cutting the gel and recovering activity by efficient refolding dialysis. The protein was identified by Western blot and high-performance liquid chromatography analysis with a band of nearly 7 kDa and a purity of 97.4%. Male monkeys were immunized with rhFSHR-57aa protein and a gradual rising of specific serum IgG antibody was found which reached a plateau on day 112 （16 weeks） after the first immunization. After mating of one male with three female monkeys, the pregnancy rate of those mated with males immunized against FSHR-57aa was significantly decreased while the serum hormone levels of testosterone and estradiol were not disturbed in the control or the FSHR-57aa groups. By evaluating pathological changes in testicular histology, we found that the blood-testis barrier remained intact, in spite of some small damage to Sertoli cells. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that the rhFSHR-57aa protein might be a feasible male contraceptive which could affect sperm production without disturbing hormone levels.

Mineral medicines have a long history in the treatment of diseases. Among these, cinnabar and realgar are the most commonly used. This review discusses the differences between cinnabar and realgar and other mercurials and arsenicals. In addition, it explores the toxicity studies carried out on cinnabar and realgar, which include acute and chronic toxicity, neurotoxicological effects, special toxicity, disposition and accumulation, and the relative mechanism of toxicity. Cinnabar and realgar are seldom used alone but rather in combination with herbs or animal medicines. Thus, in this article, we have also included a study of the effect of toxicity reduction and efficacy enhancement after cinnabar and realgar were combined with other Chinese medicinal materials. This review provides the theoretical evidence for their clinical application, suggesting that the dosage and treatment period using cinnabar and realgar should be rigidly controlled and emphasis should be placed on the drug safety of special populations.

Follow-up of children born after intracytoplasmic sperm injection with epididymal and testicular spermatozoa

Background To evaluate the safety of intracytoplasmic sperm injection （ICSI） with epididymal or testicular sperm, this study compared children born after ICSI treatment with epididymal or testicular sperm with children conceived after ICSI with ejaculated sperm. Methods This retrospective study included 317 children born after ICSI with percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration （PESA）, 103 children born after ICSI with testicular sperm aspiration （TESA）, and a control group of 1008 children born after ICSI with ejaculated sperm. All of the patients received their assisted reproductive treatment in the Reproductive Medicine Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2004 to December 2011. Data, such as the rate of stillbirths, perinatal mortality, gestational age, birth weight, and the rate of congenital malformations of the three groups, were compared. Results PESA and TESA children were not different from ICSI children in the rate of stillbirths, perinatal mortality, infant mortality rate, gestational age, the rate of prematurity, and the rate of malformations （P〉0.05）. A slight increase in birth defects was reported in the TESA group compared with those in the control group, but there was no significant difference between the groups （P〉0.05）. Conclusion ICSI with epididymal or testicutar sperm does not lead to more stillbirths or congenital malformations compared with ICSI using ejaculated sperm.

Estrogen is a steroid hormone,regulated a variety of physiological functions,and distributed in many parts of the *** report demonstrated that estrogen regulation of T-type calcium channel activity in the barin through binding to its *** lateral habenula（LHb） is an important hinge linked the limbic system and the midbrain,it involved in many physiological functions,meanwhile play a role on the estrogen-dependent behaviours,such as increase the sexual receptivity and maternal behavior during pregnancy and *** contained estrogen receptor,and also expressed a higher density of T-type calcium channels subtypes,Cav3.1 and Cav3.3,which play an important role in regulation neuronal *** speculate estrogen may affect the LHb neurons function by regulating the activation of T-type calcium *** this study,we assessed the effect of estrogen on T-type calcium current in LHb neurons by patch clamp techniques with ovariectomized oil-treated and E2-treated *** evaluated the expression of T-type calcium channels protein and mRNA by real-time PCR,western *** found that compare with oil-treated group,the expression of Cav3.1 and Cav3.3 mRNA decrease significantly in LHb in E2-treated group,The protein expression of the two subunits also decrease in E2-treated ***-cell patch recordings in LHb neurons revealed that E2 treatment significantly attenuated T-type current,and increased decay time and recovery time of T-type calcium channels,increased the slope factor of activation and inactivation *** together,these data indicate the impact of estrogen to LHb may be related to change the activity of T-type calcium channels.

Experimental Study on the Mechanism of Reversal of Leukemia Multidrug Resistance by Proteasome Inhibitor Bortezomib

OBJECTIVE In this study, we applied multidrug resistant leukemia cell line expressing mdr1-mRNA to observe changes in mdr1-mRNA, the P-gp, cell cycle and apoptosis before and after bortezomib was used, in order to explore the mechanism of reversal of leukemia multidrug resistance by the proteasome inhibitor *** Flow cytometry （FCM） was used to detect the intracellular drug concentration, expression of P-gp, cell apoptosis and cell cycle status of K562/DNR cells before and a er treatment with different concentrations of bortezomib. Fluorescence quantitative PCR was applied to detect the mdr1-mRNA expression in K562/DNR and K562/S *** Bortezomib could increase the intracellular DNR content in K562/DNR cells, but showed no e. ect in K562/S cells.5-100 nmol/L bortezomib could significantly reduce the P-gp/mdr1-mRNA expression in K562/DNR cells in vitro, and showed a dose-dependent effect. There was a statistically significant di. erence （P 〈 0.05） between di. erent concentration groups and the control group. P-gp/mdr1-mRNA expression was negatively correlated with cell apoptosis （r = -0.912 and P 〈 0.01）. After treatment with different concentrations of bortezomib for 24 h,K562/DNR cells in G2 ＋ M phases were significantly increased,while cells in G0 ＋ G1 phases and S phase were significantly decreased, accompanied by an increased apoptotic *** Bortezomib can induce G0 ＋ G1 phase to G2 ＋ M phase, and thereby enhance the chemosensitivity of leukemia, and may also reverse the multidrug resistance in leukemia mediated by P-gp overexpression encoded by mdr1 gene. This confi rms that bortezomib can reverse leukemia multidrug resistance at the levels of nucleic acid and protein molecules.

Background, Motivation and Objective Owing to their remarkable piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties, Poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF) and the family of P(VDF-Tr FE) [Tr FE = trifluoroethylene] copolymers are the best-known candicates of a class of high-performance polymers. A host of techniques have been utilized during the preparation process for the sake of dipole alignment in the crystalline structure, trying to achieve ferroelectric phase(i.e., β-phase) of PVDF, including uniaxial or biaxial stretching, high electric field, thermal annealing, and also fillers. On the other hand, widely applied in micro-nano devices, zinc oxide(Zn O), as a semiconductor with wide band gap, demonstrates superior performance, including great piezoelectric characteristic. Given these views above, however, only few studies are focused on systems with Zn O embedded in PVDF-Tr FE, especially on the films prepared via a spin-coating process. Therefore, it is of remarkable necessity to gain a clear idea of the key issue which has the primary influence on the ferroelectric phase of that composite film. Statement of Contribution/Methods In this work, PVDF-Tr FE powder was dissolved in DMF at a concentration of 0.20 g/ml, under a vigorous stirring condition at room temperature for 1h. And the nano-Zn O gained by sol-gel method was dispersed in acetone under ultrasonic conditions, with 1.0 wt% eight vinyl –POSS(with the standard of theoretical yield of nano-Zn O) added. Ensuingly, a colorless clear solution and a uniform milky white suspension were obtained. Later on, we gained a kind of homogeneous mixing system like egg white after 90 minutes of intense agitation, with the mass ratio of 5 %( nano-Zn O/PVDF-Tr FE). Then the thin films were prepared by spin coating technology at different speeds(2000, 2500, 3000 r/min) on the PEN substrate coated with ITO, 0.3ml of blend solution each time.
