Objective:To investigate the prevalence of microbial antigenic components of circulating immune complexes amongst grades of CD4 T lymphocyte counts in HIV sero positive and seronegative ***:Polyethelene glycol(PEG-600) and buffering methods of precipitation and dissociation of immune complexes was used to generate immune solution from sera of 100 HIV sero-positive and 100 HIV sero-negative *** were categorized into 3 grades based on CD4 count:> 500 cell/mm,200-499 cell/mm3 and <200 cell/*** immune solutions were assayed using membrane based immunoassay and antibody titration, along side its unprocessed serum for detection of various microbial antigens and or antibodies. CD4 T cell counts were estimated using Patec Cyflow SL-3 ***:Antigenic component of immune complexes of various infectious agents was detected in 99 and 70 HIV seropositive and HIV sero-negative participants,*** group A,there were 10 HIV positive participants,including 4(40.0%) had circulating immune complexes(CICs) due to Salmonella species only:1(10.0%) due to Salmonella-Plasmodium falciparum(***),SalmonellaP. falciparum-HCV and *** antigens,*** group B,45(45.4%) HIV seropositive participants with CICs had CD4 T lymphocyte count between 200-499 cells/mm^*** of these,20(44.4%) had CICs due to Salmonella species only:9(20%) due to Salmonella-P. *** group C,there were 44(44.4%) HIV sero-positive participants,including 3(6.8%) due to Salmonella species only:24(54.4%) due to ***:2(4.5%) due to P. falciparum ***:In HIV sero-positive participants,presence of heterogeneity of Salmonella *** antigens was highly incriminated in CD4 count depletion but not homogeneity of malaria parasites *** parasites antigens only were incriminated in CD4^+ count depletion amongst HIV sero-negative *** taking any decision on the management

Performance Evaluation of Enterprise-Wide Network that Its Backbone Is Based on Leased Trunk

Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) has been recommended and has been accepted by industry as the transfer mode for Broadband network. Currently, large scale effort has been undertaken both in the industry and academic environment to design and build high speed ATM networks for corporate bodies. These networks are meant to support both real-time and non-real time applications with different quality of service (QoS) requirements. The resources to support the applications QoS requirements are typically limited and therefore the need to dynamically allocate resource in a fair manner becomes inevitable. In this work, an evaluation is carried out on the performance of enterprise-wide network that its backbone is based on leased trunk. The performance of the leased trunk is evaluated when loaded with homogeneous and heterogeneous traffic. The evaluation is carried out in order to determine the exact effect of traffic overload on resources-trunk transmission capacity and buffer. The aim is to define the optimum loading level and the associated QoS parameter values. A typical network was adopted, modeled and simulated in MATLAB environment by using Simulink tool and the results obtained were analyzed by using Microsoft Excel.

Objective:To determine the relationship between asymptomatic malaria parasitemia and some oxidative stress parameters in pregnant Nigerian ***:This is a cross-sectional study involving 130 normal pregnant women at various trimesters,who were attending antenatal clinic at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital(UNTH) and Kenechukwu Specialist Hospital in Enugu.A comparable group(control),made of 30 non pregnant women was also *** a 24 hour dietary recall,serum levels of vitamin A,C and malondialdehyde(MDA) were determined by colorimetric method,while vitamin E was determined by absorptiometric ***:There were no statistically significant differences in age,parity,estimated calorie,vitamins A,C and E intake between the pregnant and non pregnant groups(P>0.05).The serum level of the vitamins(umol/L) and MDA(umol/L) in control,1st,2nd and 3rd trimesters respectively were:(l)Vitamin A:1.6±0.36 vs 0.6±0.26 vs 0.62±0.33 vs 0.46±0.21(P0.05). Conclusions:Asymptomatic malaria parasitemia does not induce additional oxidative stress on pregnant women in *** enormity of acute and complicated attack should be further investigated.

Ontology-Driven Analytic Models for Pension Management and Decision Support System

Ontology-Driven Analytic Models for Pension Management are sophisticated approaches that integrate the principles of ontology and analytics to optimize the management and decision-making processes within pension systems. While Ontology-Driven Analytic Models offer significant benefits for pension management, there are also challenges associated with implementing and utilizing the models. Developing a comprehensive and accurate ontology for pension management requires a deep understanding of the domain, including regulatory frameworks, investment strategies, retirement planning, and integration of data from heterogenous sources. Integrating these data into a cohesive ontology can be challenging. This research work leverages on semantic ontology as an approach for structured representation of knowledge about concepts and their relationships, and applies it to analyze and optimize decision support for pension management. The proposed ontology presents a formal and explicit specification of concepts (classes), their attributes, and the relationships between them and provides a shared and standardized understanding of the domain;enabling precise communication and knowledge representation for decision-support. The ontology deploys computational frameworks and analytic models to assess and evaluate data, generate insights, predict future pension fund performance as well as assess risk exposure. The research adopts the Reasoner, SPARQL query and OWL Visualizer executed over Java IDE for modelling the ontology-driven analytics. The approach encapsulated and integrated semantic ontologies with analytical models to enhance the accuracy, contextuality, and comprehensiveness of analyses and decisions within pension systems.

Analysis of the Impact of Treasury Single Account on the Performance of Banks in Nigeria

In this study, we developed multivariate model for the study of the impact of treasury single account (TSA) on the performance of banks in Nigeria. From the study, we discovered that there was no significant difference between the period before and after the introduction of the TSA policy on the performance of banks in Nigeria. In Diamond Bank Nigeria Plc, we observed that there were negative relationships between liquidity ratio and capital adequacy with correlation coefficient of -0.093;liquidity ratio and credit to customers with correlation coefficient of -0.312;capital adequacy and credit to customers with correlation coefficient of -0.176. On the other hand, from the analysis on first bank, we observed that there were both positive and fairly strong relationships between the liquidity ratio and capital adequacy with correlation coefficient of 0.626;negative relationship between liquidity ratio and credit to customers with correlation coefficient of -0.880 and finally, negative relationship between capital adequacy and credit to customers with correlation coefficient of -0.165.

Partial Purification and Characterization of Cellulase Produced by <i>Bacillus sphaericus</i>CE-3

Cellulase is an enzyme produced by fungi, bacteria, protozoa and termite, that hydrolyze cellulose. They are known for their diverse applications in industry and medicine. The aim of this study is to purify and investigate cellulolytic properties of cellulase enzyme produced by Bacillus sphaericus CE-3 isolated from refuse dump in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. Enzyme was produced by submerged fermentation at 30°C for 30 h. The enzyme was purified to homogeneity by dialysis in 4M sucrose solution, ion-exchange chromatography on Q-Sepharose FF and by hydrophobic interaction chromatography on Phenyl Sepharose CL-4B. The relative molecular mass of the enzyme was estimated using SDS-Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Effects of temperature, pH and metals on enzyme activity and stability and the relative rate of hydrolysis of various substrates were also studied. The Purification fold for the enzyme was 7.8, with 66.4 μ/mg specific activity protein and overall yield of 35.8. The relative molecular mass range of the enzyme was estimated between 22.3 kDa - 26.3 kDa. The enzyme was optimally active at pH 9.0 and 40°C, stable at pH 9.0 and unusually retained over 90% activity between 50°C - 100°C after 30 min incubation. It was strongly activated by Mn2+ but inhibited by Ba2+, Co2+, Hg2+, Pb2+, Cu2+, Sr2+, Fe2+, Ca2+ and Zn2+. The cellulase displayed high catalytic activity with untreated sawdust, followed by carboxymethyl cellulose, while sodium hydroxide treated sawdust was the least hydrolyzed. Since the enzyme is thermo-stable, alkalophilic and could utilize natural wastes like sawdust as substrate, it is obvious that it would be of great use in textile, starch processing and pulp and paper industries.

Evaluating the Drivers of Airlines Profitability in Nigeria Domestic Network

A firm’s profitability is critical to its competitiveness and sustainability. This research looked at the elements that influence airline profitability in Nigeria. From 2005 to 2019, two airlines were picked, and their data were retrieved from Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). From estimated quarterly panel data using E-views 8 and SPSS 22, the overall findings of the regression study demonstrate that with ROA used as a proxy for profitability, the R-square is 83.6 per cent and 89.4 per cent, respectively for Aero contractors and Medview airline, representing 83.6 per cent and 89.4 per cent of the changes in profitability of the Aero contractors and Medview in the sample, respectively, could be explained by changes in the study’s independent variables, namely growth, liquidity, leverage, lease, tangibility, fuel cost and personnel cost. Besides the total of the explanatory variables, growth, leverage and tangibility are statically significant at a 5% level of significant Aero Contractors. Growth, leverage, leasing cost, fuel cost, and staff cost, on the other hand, are statistically significant at the 5% level of significance for Medview airlines. Profiteering, expansion, leverage, and tangibility are the primary activities of any airline firm. Lease cost, fuel cost, and staff cost show a statistically significant positive link with the profitability metric ROA. As a result, stakeholders of Nigerian airlines should prioritize profitability over other criteria in this study. Airline executives should do a comprehensive analysis of all potential elements impacting their company’s profitability in the literature, including aspects other than economic variables. According to the findings of this study, political issues account for a greater proportion of the reasons why airlines fail in Nigeria.

Development of Starter Culture for the Production of African Condiments and Seasoning Agents

As a process, food fermentation dates back at least 6000 years and is likely to be derived from microbial interactions of an appropriate nature. Fermentation has allowed our ancestors to survive the winter season in temperate and cooler regions and those in the tropics to survive the periods of drought by improving food shelf-life and safety. Traditional fermentation process is still used as a replacement where there is no refrigeration or other means available for food storage. In general, fermented foods can be defined as foods produced through controlled microbial growth and the conversion of food components through enzymatic actions. They are generally appreciated for characteristics such as pleasant taste, aroma, texture and improved cooking and processing properties. Microorganisms contribute to the development of characteristic properties such as taste, smell, visual appearance, texture, shelf-life and protection by virtue of their metabolic activities. Enzymes indigenous to the raw materials may play a role in enhancing these characteristics. The use of starter cultures is a hallmark of industrial food fermentation and their introduction has been followed by a continuous search to improve them. Examples of desired properties in starter cultures include robustness during manufacturing, fast growth, high biomass yield and product yield and specific organoleptic properties. Quality, safety and acceptability of traditional fermented foods may be significantly improved through the use of starter cultures selected on the basis of multifunctional considerations, also taking into account the probiotic concept and possibilities offered for improved health benefits. Focused studies toward the introduction of starter cultures for small-scale fermentations seem more than justified, and in fact, deserve the highest priority.

Purpose:This study sought to examine the anxiety and perception of nurses toward the outbreak of COVID‑19 in University of Uyo Teaching Hospital(UUTH).Two research questions one hypothesis were *** is the level of anxiety among nurses toward the outbreak of COVID‑19?What is the perception of nurses toward the outbreak of COVID‑19?The hypothesis states that there is no significant relationship between anxiety and perception of nurses toward the outbreak of COVID‑*** was reviewed based on the research ***:The research instrument used in collecting the data for the analysis was a questionnaire administered to 100 nurses in UUTH,*** responses were analyzed using frequencies,percentages,and Chi‑square analysis,and the following results were ***:The results indicated that 36(36%)of the respondents strongly agreed that most nurses perceive that poor provision of equipment’s in the hospital result into the transmission of COVID‑19 to another person,35(35%)agreed,20(20%)of the respondents strongly agreed,whereas 9(9%)of the respondents *** of the respondents 56(56%)strongly agreed that nurses sometimes perceive that patients sometimes harbor COVID‑19 without showing the ***:The above data,therefore,showed that nurses in UUTH,Uyo,had moderate perception toward COVID‑19.

Characterization of Sintered Ceramic Tiles Produced from Steel Slag

Ceramic tiles were processed in this present work using clay mineral and steel slag. Steel slag in the range of 0-100wt % was added to kaolinite clay. The blended samples were hydraulic pressed into rectangular moulds, oven dried and sintered to1200℃. Linear shrinkage, apparent porosity, water absorption, bulk density, and modulus of rupture of sintered specimens were examined. Phases present in the sintered products were identified using X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), while the microstructural examination was conducted using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The elements present in the sintered products were identified using Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX). Phases like quartz, wol-lastonite, anorthite and enstatite were identified in the sintered products. The SEM revealed crystals embedded in the glassy matrix. EDX studies detected Aluminum (Al), Silicon (Si), Magnesium (Mg) and Calcium (Ca) as the major metal ions. Results obtained showed that samples containing 20-60wt% steel slag have very good usable ceramic tile properties.
