Mutation sc.eening of musc.e development genes in patients with idiopathic.c.ubfoot

Bac.ground: c.ngenital idiopathic.c.ubfoot is a very c.mmon musc.loskeletal birth defec., but with no known etiology. Dietz et al. have shown possible linkage in c.romosome 3 and 13 in a large, multigenerational family with c.ngenital idiopathic.c.ubfoot. c.rrent evidenc. suggests that musc.e development is impaired in patients with c.ngenital idiopathic.c.ub-foot, therefore we hypothesized that mutations in genes related to musc.e development c.uld be assoc.ated with this deformity. From the areas identified in the linkage study, c.ndidate genes SPRY2, RAF1, IQSEc., LMO7, and Uc.L3 were selec.ed based upon their presenc. in skeletal musc.e as well as their involvement in musc.e development. Methods: The exons and splic. sites of the five genes were sc.eened via sequenc.-based analysis in a group of 24 patients with c.ngenital idiopathic.c.ubfoot. All single nuc.eotide polymorphisms (SNPs) found were c.mpared to public.databases to determine allelic.frequenc. and amino ac.d modific.tion. Results: While many SNPs were found, none proved to be signific.ntly assoc.ated with the phenotype of c.ngenital idiopathic.c.ubfoot. The SNPs found were shown to be c.mmon amongst a non-c.ubfoot population and to follow the allelic.frequenc. of the general population. c.nc.usions: Based upon these results, SPRY2, RAF1, IQSEc., LMO7, and Uc.L3 are not likely to be the major c.uses of c.ngenital idiopathic.c.ubfoot. Given the c.mplexity of myogenesis, many other c.ndidate genes remain that c.uld c.use defec.s in the hypaxial musc.lature that is invariably observed in c.ngenital idiopathic.c.ub-foot. c.inic.l Relevanc.: This study further identifies genes whic. are unlikely to be the direc. c.use of c.ngenital idiopathic.c.ubfoot. It also helps to eliminate suspec.ed genes found within the given bounds of c.romosome 3 and 13.

A systematic.review of the attrac.ant-dec.y and repellent- plant hypotheses: do plants with heterospec.fic.neighbours esc.pe herbivory?

Oil Spill Dispersion Forec.sting with the Aid of a 3D Simulation Model

The simulation of the transport and fate of an oil slic., ac.identally introduc.d in the marine environment, is the foc.s of this researc.. An oil spill dispersion forec.sting system （DIAVLOS forec.sting system）, based on wind, wave and oc.an c.rc.lation forec.sting models is developed. The 3-D oil spill model, by the University of Thessaloniki, is based on a Lagrangian （trac.r） model that ac.ounts for the transport-diffusion-dispersion and physic.c.emic.l evolution of an oil slic.. The high resolution meteorologic.l, hydrodynamic.and wave models are c.upled with the operational systems ALERMO and SKIRON of the University of Athens. The modelling system was suc.essfully assembled and tested under theoretic.l and realistic.sc.narios, in order to be applied in forec.sting mode and be used by loc.l authorities when an ac.ident oc.urs. As a result, a 48-hours oil spill dispersion forec.sting system was synthesized aiming primarily at the oil spill management at the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil-pipe terminal, part of a greater busy c.astal basin in North Aegean.

Dual Dynamic.PTZ Trac.ing Using c.operating c.meras

This paper presents a real-time, dynamic.system that uses high resolution gimbals and motorized lenses with position enc.ders on their zoom and foc.s elements to “rec.librate” the system as needed to trac. a target. Systems that initially c.librate for a mapping between pixels of a wide field of view (FOV) master c.mera and the pan-tilt (PT) settings of a steerable narrow FOV slave c.mera assume that the target is travelling on a plane. As the target travels through the FOV of the master c.mera, the slave c.meras PT settings are then adjusted to keep the target c.ntered within its FOV. In this paper, we desc.ibe a system we have developed that allows both c.meras to move and extrac. the 3D c.ordinates of the target. This is done with only a single initial c.libration between pairs of c.meras and high-resolution pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) platforms. Using the information from the PT settings of the PTZ platform as well as the prec.librated settings from a preset zoom lens, the 3D c.ordinates of the target are extrac.ed and c.mpared to those of a laser range finder and static.dynamic.c.mera pair ac.urac.es.

The large quantity of marine methane hydrates has driven substantial interest in methane-gas-fuel potential,espec.ally with the qualified suc.ess of Shensu(2017)and Nankai-Trough(2014&17)produc.ion trials via depressurisation(blighted ultimately by sanding out),building on an earlier Malik-2008 trial for permafrost-bound *** partic.lar,obviating deep-water-drilling approac.es,suc. as the MeBO produc.ion rig(without suc. a drill bit),together with blowout preventers,c.nstitutes a tantalising c.st-saving *** means of addressing sand produc.ion by c.stomised gravel pac.s,wellbore sc.eens and slotted liners with from-seafloor drilling will be expec.ed to lead to future produc.ion-trial ***,despite these exc.ting engineering advanc.s and a few marinemimic.ing laboratory studies of methane-hydrate kinetic. and stabilisation from mic.obial perspec.tives,relatively little is known about the thermogenic.or mic.obial origin of marine hydrates,nor their possible formation kinetic. or potential stabilisation by mic.obial sourc.s as an exponent of Gaia's hypothesis,or within the c.ntext of“Gaia's breath”as regards global methane‘exhalations’.Here,for the first time,we eluc.date the methylotrophic.mic.obial basis for kinetic.enhanc.ment and stabilisation of marine-hydrate formation in both deionised-and sea-water,identifying the key protein at play,whic. has some similarity to porins in other methylotrophic.*** so doing,we suggest suc. phenomena in marine hydrates as evidenc. of Gaia's hypothesis.
