Measuring Cognitive and Psychosocial Accessibility to Modern Contraception: A Comprehensive Framework

Nowadays, more than ever, the improvement of access to family planning (FP) has become an international goal. What constitutes access to FP? Current human rights-based contraceptive guidelines indicate that access begins as soon as women or couples express a desire to avoid pregnancy and their risk of unintended pregnancy is established. However, few studies have sought to define and measure cognitive and psychosocial access to contraception. To propose a comprehensive framework for the cognitive and psychosocial accessibility of contraception, we critically analyzed the literature on attitudes toward FP. The main dimensions that emerged were knowledge about FP, fear of side effects, approval of contraception, and contraceptive agency. We then identified and adjusted some questions that can capture these dimensions more comprehensively. As a result, we developed a questionnaire module comprising 15 questions, which was integrated into the 6th round of the PMA2020 survey in Burkina Faso in 2019. This research highlighted that previous studies have collected separate dimensions of contraceptive access, and the psychosocial dimension tended to be neglected. Our results demonstrate that it is possible to collect comprehensive data on cognitive and psychosocial dimensions of access to family planning.

The Substructure of Elementary Particles Demonstrated by the I-Theory

Present studies in physics assume that elementary particles are the building blocks of all matter, and that they are zero-dimensional objects which do not occupy space. The new I-Theory predicts that elementary particles do indeed have a substructure, three dimensions, and occupy space, being composed of fundamental particles called I-particles. In this article we identify the substructural pattern of elementary particles and define the quanta of energy that form each elementary particle. We demonstrate that the substructure comprises two classes of quanta which we call “attraction quanta” and “repulsion quanta”. We create a model that defines the rest-mass energy of each elementary particle and can predict new particles. Lastly, in order to incorporate this knowledge into the contemporary models of science, a revised periodic table is proposed.

Data compression plays a key role in optimizing the use of memory storage space and also reducing latency in data transmission. In this paper, we are interested in lossless compression techniques because their performance is exploited with lossy compression techniques for images and videos generally using a mixed approach. To achieve our intended objective, which is to study the performance of lossless compression methods, we first carried out a literature review, a summary of which enabled us to select the most relevant, namely the following: arithmetic coding, LZW, Tunstall’s algorithm, RLE, BWT, Huffman coding and Shannon-Fano. Secondly, we designed a purposive text dataset with a repeating pattern in order to test the behavior and effectiveness of the selected compression techniques. Thirdly, we designed the compression algorithms and developed the programs (scripts) in Matlab in order to test their performance. Finally, following the tests conducted on relevant data that we constructed according to a deliberate model, the results show that these methods presented in order of performance are very satisfactory:- LZW- Arithmetic coding- Tunstall algorithm- BWT + RLELikewise, it appears that on the one hand, the performance of certain techniques relative to others is strongly linked to the sequencing and/or recurrence of symbols that make up the message, and on the other hand, to the cumulative time of encoding and decoding.

Plant-specific transcriptional regulators called TELOMERE REPEAT BINDING proteins(TRBs)combine two DNA-binding domains,the GH1 domain,which binds to linker DNA and is shared with H1 histones,and the Myb/SANT domain,which specifically recognizes the telobox DNA-binding site ***1,TRB2,and TRB3 proteins recruit Polycomb group complex 2(PRC2)to deposit H3K27me3 and JMJ14 to remove H3K4me3 at gene promoters containing telobox motifs to repress ***,we demonstrate that TRB4 and TRB5,two related paralogs belonging to a separate TRB clade conserved in spermatophytes,regulate the transcription of several hundred genes involved in developmental responses to environmental ***4 binds to several thousand sites in the genome,mainly at transcription start sites and promoter regions of transcriptionally active and H3K4me3-marked genes,but,unlike TRB1,it is not enriched at H3K27me3-marked gene ***,TRB4 can physically interact with the catalytic components of PRC2,SWINGER,and CURLY LEAF(clF).Unexpectedly,we show that TRB4 and TRB5 are required for distinctive phenotypic traits observed in clf mutant plants and thus function as transcriptional activators of several hundred clF-controlled genes,including key flowering *** further demonstrate that TRB4 shares multiple target genes with TRB1 and physically and genetically interacts with members of both TRB ***,these results reveal that TRB proteins engage in both positive and negative interactions with other members of the family to regulate plant development through both PRC2-dependent and-independent mechanisms.

Sporadic venous malformations are genetic conditions primarily caused by somatic gain-of-function mutation of PIK3CA or TEK,an endothelial transmembrane receptor signaling through *** malformations are associated with pain,bleedings,thrombosis,pulmonary embolism,esthetic deformities and,in severe cases,life-threatening *** authorized medical treatment exists for patients with venous ***,we created a genetic mouse model of PIK3CA-related capillary venous malformations that replicates patient *** showed that these malformations only partially signal through AKT *** compared the efficacy of different drugs,including rapamycin,a mTORC1 inhibitor,miransertib,an AKT inhibitor and alpelisib,a PI3Kαinhibitor at improving the lesions seen in the mouse *** demonstrated the effectiveness of alpelisib in preventing vascular malformations’occurrence,improving the already established ones,and prolonging *** these findings,we were authorized to treat 25 patients with alpelisib,including 7 children displaying PIK3CA(n=16)or TEK(n=9)-related capillary venous malformations resistant to usual therapies including sirolimus,debulking surgical procedures or percutaneous *** assessed the volume of vascular malformations using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)for each *** demonstrated improvement in all 25 *** malformations previously considered intractable were reduced and clinical symptoms were *** showed a decrease of 33.4%and 27.8%in the median volume of PIK3CA and TEK malformations respectively,over 6 months on *** conclusion,this study supports PI3Kαinhibition as a promising therapeutic strategy in patients with PIK3CA or TEK-related capillary venous malformations.

Meat products consumption and risk for Alzheimer dementia and type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies

Alzheimer dementia （AD） and type 2 diabetes （T2D） are interrelated global public health problems， and the current epidemics of both AD and T2D are insulin resistance diseases. Thus， AD and T2D may share common risk factors such as an unhealthy diet， lifestyle， and obesity. Meat products is an important part of the diet of consumers worldwide. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to assess and estimate the effect of meat products consumption on AD and T2D in humans. Web of Science， MEDLINE， PubMed， Cochrane Library， and Embase were searched from January 2012 to April 2024. 29 articles reported 32 cohort studies with 1，785，769 subjects， with 3，546 AD cases and 91，092 T2D cases that met the inclusion criteria and were included in our analysis. Consumption of various meat products increased the risk of T2D (HR = 1.19， 95% CI: 1.13 - 1.26， p = 0.000; I2= 88.5%)， consumption of smoked， grilled/roasted and fried meat products was more likely to induce T2D (HR = 1.24， 95% CI: 1.18 - 1.30， p = 0. 000; I2= 76.1%)， but was borderline significant for the risk of AD (HR = 1.11， 95% CI: 0.98 - 1.25， p = 0.094; I2= 58.8%)， with consumption of mainly livestock and poultry products increasing the risk (HR = 1.21， 95% CI: 1.03 - 1.42， p = 0.017; I2= 66.8%). The association between meat products consumption and AD risk was influenced by meat type and sample size， while the risk of T2D was influenced by meat type， follow-up and sex. A daily intake of 27 g， 123 g and 170 g of livestock products increased the risk of T2D by 10%， 51% and 70% respectively， whereas the risk of T2D was reduced when the intake of various meat products was less than 23 g/d.

The past few years have witnessed power conversion efficiency(PCE)of organic solar cells(OSCs)skyrocketing to the value of 20%due to the outstanding advantages of organic photoactive *** latter,which consist of donor and acceptor materials,indeed play important roles in OSCs,and particularly one building block has attracted considerable research attention,namely benzothiadiazole(BT).The diversity of OSCs based on the BT structure have indeed sprung up,and the progressive increase in PCE values is more than just eye-catching since it heralds a renewal and bright future of *** review analyzes significant studies that have led to these remarkable progresses and focuses on the most effective BT small-molecules and BT polymers for OSC reported in the last *** pivotal structure-property relationships,donor-acceptor matching criteria,and morphology control approaches are gathered and discussed in this ***,we summarize the remaining challenges and offer a personal perspective on the future advance and improvement of OSCs.
