Hirschsprung＇s disease （HD） is a disorder associated with congenital malformation of the enteric nervous system with segmental aganglionosis. Prevailing therapy includes a resection of the affected part of the bowel, However, patients often do not obtain complete functional improvement after surgical treatment. We present the case of a 25-year-old woman who had surgical treatment of lid in early childhood. After that procedure she had clinical features of constipation for years in the end, passing of stool once a week, requiring laxatives and enemas. We diagnosed an incomplete resection of the aganglionic bowel via rectal biopsy and resected the r.maining aganglionic segment. Two months after surgery the patient＇s bowel function improved to a frequency of 1-4 stools per day. We conclude that regular follow-up is required to identify lid patients with persistent alterations of bowel function after surgery. In patients presenting with constipation, recognition of a r.maining aganglionic segment or other alterations of the enteric nervous system should be aimed at in an early stage. 2005 The WJG Press and Elsevier Inc. In the tropics,frequent nitrogen(N)fertilization of grazing areas can potentially increase nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)*** application of nitrification inhibitors has been reported as an effective management practice for potentially reducing N loss fr.m the soil-plant system and improving N use efficiency(NUE).The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the co-application of nitrapyrin(a nitrification inhibitor,NI)and urea in a tropical Andosol on the behavior of N and the emissions of N_(2)O fr.m autotrophic and heterotrophic nitrification.A greenhouse exper.ment was performed using a soil(pH 5.9,organic matter content 78 g kg^(-1),and N 5.6 g kg^(-1))sown with Cynodon nlemfuensis at 60%water-filled pore space to quantify total N_(2)O emissions,N_(2)O derived fr.m fertilizer,soil ammonium(NH_(4)^(+))and nitrate(NO_(3)^(-)),and *** study included treatments that received deionized water only(control,NI).No significant differences were observed in soil NH_(4)^(+)content between the Ur and Ur+NI treatments,probably because of soil mineralization and NO_(3)^(-)produced by heterotrophic nitrification,which is not effectively inhibited by *** 56 d,N_(2)O emissions in Ur(0.51±0.12 mg N_(2)O-N concluded that the soil organic N mineralization and heterotrophic nitrification are the main processes of NH_(4)^(+)and NO_(3)^(-)***,it was found that N_(2)O emissions were partially a consequence of the direct oxidation of the soil's organic N via heterotrophic nitrification coupled to ***,the results suggest that nitrapyrin would likely exert significant mitigation on N_(2)O emissions only if a substantial N surplus exists in soils with high organic matter content.

Selenium(Se)is an essential micronutrient that plays an important role in animal and human development and physiological *** review surveys the role of Se in the environment,plants and animal bodies,and discusses data on Se biofortification with different sources of supplementation,fr.m inorganic to organic forms,with special focus on Se-enriched yeast(Se-yeast).Although Se-yeast r.mains one of the main sources of organic Se,other emerging and innovative sources are reviewed,such as Se-enriched insects and Se-nanoparticles and their potential use in animal ***-enriched insects are discussed as an option for supplying Se in organic form to livestock ***-nanoparticles are also discussed,as they represent a more biocompatible and less toxic source of inorganic Se for animal organisms,compared to selenite and *** also provide up to date information on the legal fr.mework in the EU,USA,and Canada of Se that is contained in feed *** the scientific evidence available in the literature,it can be concluded that among the inorganic forms,sodium selenite is still one of the main options,whereas Se-yeast r.mains the pr.mary organic ***,other potential sources such as Se-enriched insects and Se-nanoparticles are being investigated as they could potentially combine a high bioavailability and reduced Se emissions in the environment.

Nitrification inhibitors can effectively decrease nitrification rates and nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)emission while increasing crop yield under certain ***,there is no information available on the effects of nitrification inhibitors and tillage practices on N_(2)O emissions fr.m maize cropping in *** study how tillage practices and nitrapyrin(a nitrification inhibitor)affect N_(2)O emission,a split factorial exper.ment using a completely randomized block design with three replications was carried out in Northeast Iran,which has a cold semiarid *** main plots were created with conventional tillage and minimum tillage levels,and two nitrogen(N)fertilizer(urea)management systems(with and without nitrapyrin application)were created as *** level did not have any significant effect on soil ammonium(NH_(4)^(+))and nitrate(NO_(3)^(-))concentrations,cumulative amount and yield-scaled N_(2)O emission,and aboveground biomass of maize,whereas nitrapyrin application showed significant *** application significantly reduced the cumulative amount of N_(2)O emission by 41%and 32%in conventional tillage and minimum tillage practices,respectively.A reduction in soil NO_(3)^(-)concentration by nitrapyrin was also *** average yield-scaled N_(2)O emission was 13.6 g N_(2)O-N kg^(-1)N uptake in both tillage systems without nitrapyrin application and was significantly reduced to 7.9 and 8.2 g N_(2)O-N kg^(-1)N uptake upon the application of nitrapyrin in minimum tillage and conventional tillage practices,***,nitrapyrin application increased maize biomass yield by 4%and 13%in the minimum tillage and conventional tillage systems,*** results indicate that nitrapyrin has a potential role in reducing N_(2)O emission fr.m agricultural systems where urea fertilizers are broadcasted,which is common in Iran due to the practice of traditional farming.

We report a case of the rare solid-pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas. In contrast to other pancreatic tumors,the solid-pseudopapillary tumor has a favorable *** 60-year-old female patient we report on here was treated by left pancreatic resection combined with splenectomy for a non-metastasizing tumor of the pancreas. A solid-pseudopapillary tumor was found on histology. The patient had no signs of metastases at *** a microscopically invasive tumor growth is assumed,oncologically curative resection should be preferred vs the less radical enucleation. The rare solid-pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas has a good prognosis after successful oncological resection.

The pH of the Apoplast： Dynamic Factor with =unctional Impact Under Stress

The apoplast is an interconnected compar.ment with a thin water-film that alkalinizes under stress. This systemic pH increase may be a secondary effect without functional implications, arising fr.m ion movements or proton-pump regulations. On the other hand, there are increasing indications that it is part of a mechanism to withstand stress. regardless of this controversy, alkalinization of the apoplast has received little attention. The apoplastic pH （PHapo） increases not only during plant-pathogen interactions but also in response to salinity or drought. Not much is known about the mechanisms that cause the leaf apoplast to alkalinize, nor whether, and if so, how functional impact is conveyed. Controversial explanations have been given, and the unusual complexity of pHapo regulation is considered as the pr.mary reason behind this lack of knowledge. A gathering of scattered information revealed that changes in PHapo convey functionality by regulating stomatal aperture via the effects exerted on abscisic acid. moreover, apoplastic alkalinization may regulate growth under stress, whereas this needs to be verified. In this review, a comprehensive survey about several physiological mechanisms that alkalize the apoplast under stress is given, and the suitability of apoplastic alkalinization as transducing element for the transmission of sensory information is discussed.

CO_(2)Plume Geothermal(CPG)Systems for Combined Heat and Power Production:an Evaluation of Various Plant Configurations

CO_(2) Plume Geothermal(CPG)systems are a pr.mising concept for utilising petrothermal resources in the context of a future carbon capture utilisation and sequestration *** geothermal energy has a tr.mendous worldwide potential for decarbonising both the power and heating *** paper investigates three potential CPG configurations for combined heating and power generation(CHP).The present work examines scenarios with reservoir depths of 4 km and 5 km,as well as required district heating system(DHS)supply temperatures of 70℃ and 90℃.The results reveal that a two-staged serial CHP concept eventuates in the highest achievable net power *** a thermosiphon system,the relative net power reduction by the CHP option compared with a sole power generation system is significantly lower than for a pumped *** net power reduction for pumped systems lies between 62.6%and 22.9%.For a thermosiphon system with a depth of 5 km and a required DHS supply temperature of 70℃,the achievable net power by the most beneficial CHP option is even 9.2%higher than for sole power generation *** second law efficiency for the sole power generation concepts are in a range between 33.0%and 43.0%.The second law efficiency can increase up to 63.0%in the case of a CHP ***,the combined heat and power generation can significantly increase the overall second law efficiency of a CPG *** evaluation of the achievable revenues demonstrates that a CHP application might improve the economic performance of both thermosiphon and pumped CPG ***,the minimum heat revenue required for compensating the power reduction increases with higher electricity *** summary,the results of this work provide valuable insights for the potential development of CPG systems for CHP applications and their economic feasibility.
