Soil properties and habitats determine the response of bacterial communities to agricultural wastewater irrigation

Increasing temperatures and variability of precipitation events due to climate change will lead in the future to higher irrigation demands in ***,the use of secondary treated wasterwater(TWW)could have consequences for the receiving soil environment and its resident microbial *** objective of this study was to characterize the importance of soil properties and habitats to the response of soil bacteria and archaea to irrigation with *** agricultural soils with contrasting textures(loamy sand or silt loam)and,for each,three variants differing in soil organic carbon and nitrogen,as generated by long-term fertilization,were *** each of these six soils,prokaryotic communities from two habitats,i.e.,root-free bulk soil and the rhizosphere of developing cucumber plants in the greenhouse,were *** were analyzed by the quantity and diversity of their polymerase chain reaction(PcR)-amplified 16S rRNA *** account for TWW-associated nutrient effects,potable water(PW)served as a *** sequence analysis showed that prokaryotic communities mainly consisted of bacteria(99.8%).Upon irrigation,regardless of the water quality,prokaryotic diversity declined,p H increased,and no bacterial growth was detected in bulk *** contrast,the growth of cucumbers was stimulated by TWW,indicating that plants were the main ***,strong responses were seen in the rhizosphere,suggesting an indirect effect of TWW by altered *** main bacterial responders to TWW were Proteobacteria,Bacteroidetes,Actinobacteria,and *** in bacterial communities due to TWW were less pronounced in all variants of the silt loam,indicating the importance of clay and soil organic carbon for buffering effects of TWW on soil bacterial ***,soil organic carbon and soil texture are important parameters that need to be considered when applying TWW in agriculture.

The demand for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)is driven largely by their use in electric vehicles,which is projected to increase dramatically in the *** great success,however,urgently calls for the efficient recycling of LIBs at the end of their ***,we describe a froth flotation-based process to recycle graphite—the predominant active material for the negative electrode—from spent LIBs and investigate its reuse in newly assembled *** has been found that the structure and morphology of the recycled graphite are essentially unchanged compared to pristine commercial anode-grade graphite,and despite some minor impurities from the recycling process,the recycled graphite provides a remarkable reversible specific capacity of more than 350 mAh g^(−1).Even more importantly,newly assembled graphite‖NMc532 cells show excellent cycling stability with a capacity retention of 80%after 1000 cycles,that is,comparable to the performance of reference full cells comprising pristine commercial graphite.

Age and petrogenesis of the newly discovered Early Permian granite in the Kumtor gold field， Kyrgyz Tien-Shan

Permian intrusions are widespread in the Middle and Southern Tien Shan， with fewer occurrences in the Northern Tien-Shan. Notably， many of these intrusions are spatially associated with a variety of ore deposits， indicating a significant link between magmatic activity and mineralization processes in these areas. We studied granite samples recently recovered from drilling in the Kumtor gold field to evaluate their potential relationships with gold mineralization. We report major and trace element geochemistry， zircon U-Pb age and Hf isotope data for this so-called Kumtor granite. The Kumtor granite is metaluminous to peraluminous and belongs to the high-K and calc-alkaline series with I-type geochemical characteristics. The relatively high K2O and Na2O concentrations and low high field strength elements （HFSE） and heavy rare earth elements （HREE）， the presence of biotite within these I-type granites， together with their low zircon saturation temperatures （731–779 °c）， suggest that they were likely derived from a hydrous source formed by dehydration melting of mica-bearing， medium- to high-K metabasaltic rocks. Our zircon U-Pb dating results indicate that the Kumtor granite intruded at 293 ± 1.7 Ma， which is consistent with the age range of other Middle Tien-Shan granitoids. The zircon Hf isotopic composition is εHf（t）= –7.56 to –5.05， indicating an ancient （1.39 to 1.52 Ga） crustal origin. Petrographical， geochemical and geochronological data indicate that the Kumtor granite is similar to leuco-granites of the Terekty complex. Our results indicate that the Kumtor granite was emplaced in the early Permian in a post-collision setting and may have temporal and genetic relationships with gold mineralization.

The prevalence of metabolic-dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD)is alarmingly high;it is estimated to affect up to a quarter of the global population,making it the most common liver disorder *** is characterized by excessive hepatic fat accumulation and is commonly associated with comorbidities such as obesity,dyslipidemia,and insulin resistance;however,it can also manifest in lean ***,it is crucial to develop effective therapies for this complex ***,there are no approved medications for MASLD treatment,so there is a pressing need to investigate alternative *** research has characterized MASLD as a multifaceted disease,frequently linked to metabolic disorders that stem from dietary *** suggests that changes in the gut microbiome play a fundamental role in the development and progression of MASLD from simple steatosis to steatohepatitis and even hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc).In this review,we critically examine the literature on the emerging field of gut-microbiota-based therapies for MASLD and metabolicdysfunction-associated steatohepatitis(MASH),including interventions such as fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT),probiotics,prebiotics,short-chain fatty acids,antibiotics,metabolic pathway targeting,and immune checkpoint kinase blockade.

cO_(2)Plume Geothermal(cPG)Systems for combined Heat and Power Production:an Evaluation of Various Plant configurations

cO_(2) Plume Geothermal(cPG)systems are a promising concept for utilising petrothermal resources in the context of a future carbon capture utilisation and sequestration *** geothermal energy has a tremendous worldwide potential for decarbonising both the power and heating *** paper investigates three potential cPG configurations for combined heating and power generation(cHP).The present work examines scenarios with reservoir depths of 4 km and 5 km,as well as required district heating system(DHS)supply temperatures of 70℃ and 90℃.The results reveal that a two-staged serial cHP concept eventuates in the highest achievable net power *** a thermosiphon system,the relative net power reduction by the cHP option compared with a sole power generation system is significantly lower than for a pumped *** net power reduction for pumped systems lies between 62.6%and 22.9%.For a thermosiphon system with a depth of 5 km and a required DHS supply temperature of 70℃,the achievable net power by the most beneficial cHP option is even 9.2%higher than for sole power generation *** second law efficiency for the sole power generation concepts are in a range between 33.0%and 43.0%.The second law efficiency can increase up to 63.0%in the case of a cHP ***,the combined heat and power generation can significantly increase the overall second law efficiency of a cPG *** evaluation of the achievable revenues demonstrates that a cHP application might improve the economic performance of both thermosiphon and pumped cPG ***,the minimum heat revenue required for compensating the power reduction increases with higher electricity *** summary,the results of this work provide valuable insights for the potential development of cPG systems for cHP applications and their economic feasibility.

In this paper we study the effect of rolling friction on the dynamics in a single spout fluidized bed using Discrete Element Method （DEM） coupled to computational Fluid Dynamics （cFD）. In a first step we neglect rolling friction and show that the results delivered by the open source cFD-DEM framework applied in this study agree with previous simulations documented in literature. In a second step we include a rolling friction sub-model in order to investigate the effect of particle non-sphericity. The influence of particle-particle as well as particle-wall rolling friction on the flow in single spout fluidized bed is studied separately. Adequate rolling friction model parameters are obtained using first principle DEM simulations and data from literature. Finally, we demonstrate the importance of correct modelling of rolling friction for coupled cFD-DEM simulations of spout fluidized beds. We show that simulation results can be improved significantly when applying a rolling friction model, and that experimental data from literature obtained with Positron Emission Particle Trackin~ fPEPT） technique can be satisfactorily reoroduced.

Electron–plasmon and electron–magnon scattering in ferromagnets from first principles by combining GW and GT self-energies

This work combines two powerful self-energy techniques:the well-known GW method and a self-energy recently developed by us that describes renormalization effects caused by the scattering of electrons with magnons and Stoner *** GT selfenergy,which is fully k-dependent and contains infinitely many spin-flip ladder diagrams,was shown to have a profound impact on the electronic band structure of Fe,co,and *** the present work,we refine the method by combining GT with the GW *** resulting GWT spectral functions exhibit strong lifetime effects and emergent dispersion *** are in an overall better agreement with experimental spectra than those obtained with GW or GT alone,even showing partial improvements over local-spin-density approximation dynamical mean-field *** performed analysis provides a basis for applying the GWT technique to a wider class of magnetic materials.

As one of the most important groups in micropaleontology, Foraminifera is traditionally described to have a membranous, agglutinated or carbonate shell according to its morphology, which resembles the marine granuloreticuloseans. However, recent molecular analyses on its ribosomal RNA gene have disclosed the existence of the naked, and also freshwater and terrestrial species. Foraminiferal SSU rDNA sequence suggests that this group is positioned at the base of the Eukaryotes phylogenetic trees, between Euglenoida and Diplomonadida. Existence of a large amount of genetic types in planktonic foraminifera suggests an underestimation of the biodiversity for the nearly 50 species in world oceans and their close relationship with the ocean environment, such as bio-geographic distribution and water currents. This provides a more reliable proxy for future paleoenvironmental study.

E-selectin ligand complexes adopt an extended high-affinity conformation

E-selectin is a cell-adhesion molecule of the vascular endothelium that promotes essential leukocyte rolling in the early inflammatory response by binding to glycoproteins containing the tetrasaccharide sialyl Lewisx(sLex).Efficient leukocyte recruitment under vascular flow conditions depends on an increased lifetime of E-selectin/ligand complexes under tensile force in a so-called catch-bond binding ***-crystal structures of a representative fragment of the extracellular E-selectin region with sLex and a glycomimetic antagonist thereof reveal an extended E-selectin conformation,which is identified as a high-affinity binding state of E-selectin by molecular dynamics ***-angle X-ray scattering experiments demonstrate a direct link between ligand binding and E-selectin conformational transition under static conditions in *** permits tracing a series of concerted structural changes connecting ligand binding to conformational stretching as the structural basis of E-selectin catch-bond-mediated leukocyte *** detailed molecular view of the binding site paves the way for the design of a new generation of selectin *** is of special interest,since their therapeutic potentialwas recently demonstrated with the pan-selectin antagonists GMI-1070(Rivipansel).

Are acute exacerbations of chronic inflammatory appendicitis triggered by coprostasis and/or coproliths?

AIM: To examine the role of coprostasis and coproliths in recurrent appendicitis. METHODS: We evaluated four hundred and twenty seven consecutive pathology reports of all appende- ctomy specimens from January 2003 to December 2004. Findings were categorised as showing acute appen- dicitis, acute recurrent appendicitis, subacute recurrent appendicitis, chronic appendicitis, or appendices without inflammation. All patients had presented with acute right lower quadrant pain. In 94 instances, there was a history of recurrent similar episodes in the past. RESULTS: Of the 427 histology reports, 294 were inter- preted as showing acute appendicitis, 56 acute recurrent appendicitis, 34 subacute recurrent appen-dicitis, 28 chronic appendicitis, and 15 non-inflamed appendices. coprostasis was observed in 58 patients (13.58%) and the presence of coprolith in 6 (1.4%). coprostasis, and age, were among the predictors in the final model. cONcLUSION: coprostasis but not coproliths seems to be a contributing factor to acute exacerbations of chronic inflammatory appendicitis.
