AIm： To correlate the significance of liver biochemical tests in diagnosing post orthotopic liver transplantation （OLT） biliary complications and to study their profile before and after endoscopic therapy.mETHODS： Patients who developed biliary complications were analysed in detail for the clinical information, laboratory tests, treatment offered, response to it, follow up and outcomes. The profile of liver enzymes was determined. The safety, efficacy and outcomes of endoscopic retrograde cholangiography （ERC） were also analysed. RESULTS： 40 patients required ERC for 70 biliary complications. GGT was found to be 〉 3 times （388.1 ± 70.9 U/mL vs 168.5 4± 34.2 U/L, P = 0.007） and SAP 〉 2 times （345.1 ± 59.1 U/L vs 152.7 ± 21.4 U/L, P = 0.003） the immediate post OLT values. most frequent complication was isolated anastomotic res in 28 （40%）. Sustained success was achieved in 26 （81%） patients. CONCLUSION： Biliary complications still remain an important problem post OLT. SAP and GGT can be used as early, non-invasive markers for diagnosis and also to assess the adequacy of therapy. Endoscopic management is usually effective in treating the majority of these biliary complications.

Objective:To review the indications and clinical evidence supporting hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) therapy for the treatment of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep ap-nea (OSA). methods:Peer reviewed literature on hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy for obstructive sleep apnea from 2001 to 2016. Results:The only currently FDA-approved HNS device for the treatment of moderate-to-severe OSA is produced by Inspire medical Systems, which recently published its 36-month outcomes data from its Stimulation Therapy for Apnea Reduction (STAR) trial. HNS therapy is currently indicated for moderate-to-severe OSA patients who are CPAP-intolerant, have a body mass in-dex m the STAR trial suggests that a subset of OSA patients can achieve a sig-nificant therapeutic response from hypoglossal nerve stimulation. However, these results may be limited in their generalizability to the broader OSA population.

BACKGROUND Gastric antral vascular ectasia(GAVE)is a significant complication of *** medical,surgical,and endoscopic treatment modalities have been proposed with varied satisfactory *** a few small studies,GAVE and associated anemia have resolved after orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT).AIm To assess the impact of OLT on the resolution of GAVE and related *** We retrospectively reviewed clinical records of adult patients with GAVE who underwent OLT between September 2012 and September *** and other relevant clinical findings were collected,including hemoglobin levels and upper endoscopy findings before and after *** primary outcome was the resolution of GAVE and its related anemia after *** Sixteen patients were *** pre-OLT Hgb was 7.7 g/dL and mean 12 mo post-OLT Hgb was 11.9 g/dL,(P=0.001).Anemia improved(defined as Hgb increased by 2g)in 87.5%of patients within 6 to 12 mo after OLT and resolved completely in half of the ***-OLT esophagogastroduodenoscopy was performed in 10 patients,and GAVE was found to have resolved entirely in 6 of those patients(60%).Although GAVE and associated anemia completely resolved in the majority of our patients after OLT,GAVE persisted in a few patients after *** studies in a large group of patients are necessary to understand the causality of disease and to better understand the factors associated with the persistence of GAVE post-transplant.

Abstract The expression of early developmental markers such as doublecortin （DCX） and the polysialylated-neural cell adhesion molecule （PSA-NCAmIp has been used to identify immature neurons within canonical neurogenic niches. Additionally, DCX/PSA-NCAm ＋ immature neurons reside in cortical layer II of the paleocortex and in the paleo- and entorhinal cortex of mice and rats, respectively. These cells are also found in the neocortex of guinea pigs, rabbits, some afrotherian mammals, cats, dogs, non-human primates, and humans. The population of cortical DCX/PSA-NCAm ＋ immature neurons is generated prenatally as conclusively demonstrated in mice, rats, and guinea pigs. Thus, the majority of these cells do not appear to be the product of adult proliferative events. The immature neurons in cortical layer II are most abundant in the corlLices of young individuals, while very few DCX/PSA-NCAm ＋ cortical neurons can be detected in aged mammals. maturation of DCX/PSA-NCAm ＋ cells into glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons has been proposed as an explanation for the age-dependent reduction in their population over time. In this review, we compile the recent information regarding the age-related decrease in the number of cortical DCX/PSA-NCAm ＋ neurons. We compare the distribution and fates of DCX/PSA-NCAm ＋ neurons among mammalian species and speculate their impact on cognitive function. To respond to the diversity of adult neurogenesis research produced over the last number of decades, we close this review by discussing the use and precision of the term ＂adult non-canonical neurogenesis.＂

Background:Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis(XGC)is a rare benign chronic inflammatory disease of the gallbladder that often presents as cholecystitis and most of the times requires surgical *** addition,distinguishing XGC from gallbladder cancer preoperatively is still a *** aim of the present systematic review was to outline the clinical presentation and surgical approach of *** sources:The present systematic review was designed using the PRISmA and AmSTAR *** searched mEDLINE,Scopus,***,EmBASE,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials(CENTRAL)and Google Scholar databases from inception until June ***:The laparoscopic cholecystectomy rate(34%)was almost equal to the open cholecystectomy rate(47%)for *** important conversion rate(35%)was observed as *** XGC cases treated by surgery were associated with low mortality(0.3%),limited intraoperative blood loss(58-270 m L),low complication rates(2%–6%),along with extended operative time(82.6–120 minutes for laparoscopic and 59.6–240 minutes for open cholecystectomy)and hospital stay(3–9 days after laparoscopic and 8.3–18 days after open cholecystectomy).Intraoperative findings during cholecystectomies for XGC included empyema or mirizzi *** addition,complex surgical procedures,like wedge hepatic resections and bile duct excision were required during operations for ***:XGC seemed to be a rare,benign inflammatory disease that presents similar features as gallbladder *** mortality and complication rates of XGC were low,despite the complex surgical procedures that might be required in some cases.

Zn-air batteries are highly attractive for direct chemical-to-electrical energy conversion and for solving the energy crisis and environmental *** efficient oxygen electrodes has been considered one of the most critical steps in the development of advanced Zn-air batteries because of the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction and the oxygen evolution *** recent years,nanostructured carbon-based electrodes with large surface areas,efficient oxygen-catalytic centers,and hierarchically porous matrices have provided significant opportunities to optimize the performance of the oxygen electrodes in both primary and rechargeable Zn-air *** this review,we provide a comprehensive summary of the reported nanostructured carbon-based electrodes for advanced Zn-air batteries in terms of tailoring the oxygen-catalytic sites and designing carbon *** versatile synthetic strategies,characterization methods,and in-depth understanding of the relationships between the oxygen-catalytic sites/nanostructures and the oxygen electrode performance are systematically ***,we also briefly outline recent progress in engineering flexible and high-power Zn-air ***,a thorough discussion of current primary challenges and future perspectives on the rational design of nanostructured carbon-based oxygen electrodes is given,thus providing inspiration for the future prosperity of fast-kinetic and efficient Zn-air batteries in a broad range of energy fields.

The human spinal column is a dynamic,segmented,bony,and cartilaginous structure that protects the neurologic system and simultaneously provides balance and *** with developmental disorders that affect the patterning or shape of the spine can be at risk of neurologic and other physiologic *** most common developmental disorder of the spine is scoliosis,a lateral deformity in the shape of the spinal *** may be part of the clinical spectrum that is observed in many developmental disorders,but typically presents as an isolated symptom in otherwise healthy adolescent *** idiopathic scoliosis(AIS)has defied understanding in part due to its genetic *** have come from recent genome-wide association studies(GWAS)and next generation sequencing(NGS)of human AIS cohorts,as well as investigations of animal *** studies have identified genetic associations with determinants of cartilage biogenesis and development of the intervertebral disc(IVD).Current evidence suggests that a fraction of AIS cases may arise from variation in factors involved in the structural integrity and homeostasis of the cartilaginous extracellular matrix(ECm).Here,we review the development of the spine and spinal cartilages,the composition of the cartilage ECm,the so-called"matrisome"and its functions,and the players involved in the genetic architecture of *** also propose a molecular model by which the cartilage matrisome of the IVD contributes to AIS susceptibility.
