Surfactants are extensively used in many chemical products to improve their stability, appearance, texture, and rheology. Precise control of the emulsion droplet size distribution, which depends on the characteristics of the surfactant used, is important for target-oriented product design. A complete understand! ng of the structures and dynamics of emulsion droplets at the reactor level requires coupling of two mesoscale physical constraints, that at the interfacial level, i.e., smaller than a single droplet (Mesoscale- 1), and that at the device level, i.e., larger than a single droplet (Mesoscale-2). In this work, the structures and adsorption kinetics of Mesoscale-1 surfactant molecules were studied via coarse-grained molecular dynamics. A non-equilibrium model that could introduce stable shear flow into the simulation box was used to investigate the interfacial structures at the droplet interface under different shear rates. The configurations of the surfactant molecules and adsorption amounts were compared with those obtained without flow. The adsorption kinetics for different shear rates were compared to determine the effects of hydrodynamic interactions. The dominant mechanisms governing the dynamic structures can thus be summarized as maximization of the adsorption density at the interface and minimization of flow resistance in the bulk phase (water and/or oil molecules). A scheme for coupling between Mesoscale-1 and Mesoscale-2 is proposed. This method is promising for the incorporation of interfacial structure effects into the hydrodynamics at the reactor device level for the manipulation of chemical products.

Natal rearing experience of animals may affect their behaviors,such as habitat selection and oviposition *** part of the overall fitness of insect parasitoids, successful host discrimination (distinguishing parasitized hosts from unparasitized hosts) is of paramount *** this study we examined whether and how parasitoids' natal rearing experience would affect their host discrimination ability according to host *** established separate colonies ofAphidius gifuensis Ashmead by continual rearing on two hosts,Sitobion avenae E and Myzuspersicae (Suzler),and quantified self superparasitism and self superparasitism versus parasitism ratio for the four:combinations ofparasitoid colonies and host species (*** and ***)at four host densities (30,50,100 or 150 per plant).Results showed that self superparasitism *** by *** reared on *** was significantly higher than by those reared on ***,no matter whether the host densities were 30,50,100 or *** gifuensis reared on *** significantly superparasitized more *** than those reared on *** only when host density was *** superparasitism versus parasitism ratio of *** from both colonies was always lower on natal hosts than on new hosts,and the difference was more pronounced as the host density *** results suggested that natal rearing effects is important on host discrimination and oviposition decision of the parasitoid *** effects promoted the parasitoid's host adaptation and made them confer greater fitness.

Projection-based mixed reality is an effective tool to create immersive visualizations on real-world objects. Its wide range of applications includes art installations, education, stage shows, and advertising. In this work, we enhance a multi-projector system for dynamic projection mapping by handling various physical stray-light effects: interreflection,projector black-level, and environmental light in real time for dynamic scenes. We show how all these effects can be efficiently simulated and accounted for at runtime, resulting in significantly improved projection mapping results. By adding a global optimization step,we can further increase the dynamic range of the projection.

Fe-Ni alloy, as a widely applied ferromagnetic material, is synthesized using selective laser melting （SLM）. The chemical compositions and microstructure of the SLM Fe-Ni alloy are characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the samples exhibited fine grains with homogenous distribution when a low laser scanning velocity was used. Moreover, the magnetic properties of the samples with different laser parameters are also measured. It shows that the SLM Fe-30%Ni alloy possesses a low coercivity and high saturation magnetization. It also can be obtained that SLM is an alternative faster method to prepare soft magnetic material with complex shapes. Moreover, the magnetic properties can be influenced by the laser parameters.

Localisation microscopy overcomes the diffraction limit by measuring the position of individual molecules to obtain optical images with a lateral resolution better than 30 nm. Single molecule localisation microscopy was originally demonstrated only in two dimensions but has recently been extended to three dimensions. Here we develop a new approach to three-dimensional （3D） localisation microscopy by engineering of the point-spread function （PSF） of a fluorescence microscope. By introducing a linear phase gradient between the two halves of the objective pupil plane the PSF is split into two lateral lobes whose relative position depends on defocus. Calculations suggested that the phase gradient resulting from the very small tolerances in parallelism of conventional slides made from float glass would be sufficient to generate a two-lobed PSF. We demonstrate that insertion of a suitably chosen microscope slide that occupies half the objective aperture combined with a novel fast fitting algorithm for 3D localisation estimation allows nanoscopic imaging with detail resolution well below 100 nm in all three dimensions （standard deviations of 20, 16, and 42 nm in x, y, and z directions, respectively）. The utility of the approach is shown by imaging the complex 3D distribution of microtubules in cardiac muscle cells that were stained with conventional near infrared fluorochromes. The straightforward optical setup, minimal hardware requirements and large axial localisation range make this approach suitable for many nanoscopic imaging applications.

Bait markers are indispensable for ecological research but in small mammals,most markers are invasive,expensive and do not enable quantitative analyses of ***-iophenoxic acid(Et-IPA)is a non-toxic,quantitative bait marker,which has been used for studying bait uptake in several carnivores and *** developed a bait with Et-IPA,assessed its palatability to common voles(Microtus arvalis),and determined the dose-residue-relation for this important agricultural pest rodent ***-IPA concentrations of 40 to 1280μg Et-IPA per g bait were applied to wheat using sunﬂower oil or polyethylene glycol 300 as potential *** a laboratory study,common voles were offered the bait and blood samples were collected 1,7,and 14 days after *** samples were analyzed with LC-ESI-MS/MS for blood residues of ***ﬂower-oil was the most suitable bait ***-IPA seemed to be palatable to common voles at all test ***-dependent residues could be detected in blood samples in a dose-dependent manner and up to 14 days after uptake enabling generation of a calibration curve of the dose-residue ***-IPA was present in common vole blood for at least 14 days,but there was dissipation by 33–37%depending on ***-IPA meets many criteria for an“ideal”quantitative bait marker for use in futureﬁeld studies on common voles and possibly other small mammal species.
