Road salts are frequently used for deicing of roads in the Nordic countries. During snow-melt, the road run-off containing high concentrations of road salt and various metals such as Cu remobilized from sand, silt and dust may negatively influence organisms in downstream receiving water bodies. The present work focuses on the impact of road salt（NaCl） and Cu, separately and in mixtures on Atlantic salmon alevins from hatching till swim-up. The results showed that high road salt concentrations could induce a series of negative effects in alevins such as reduced growth, deformities, delayed swim-up and mortality. For alevins exposed to all tested road salt concentrations（100–1000 mg/L）,mortality was significantly higher compared to control. In exposure to Cu solutions（5–20 μg Cu/L）, no effects on growth, morphology, swim-up or mortality of alevins compared to control were observed. In mixture solutions（road salt and Cu）, ultrafiltration of the exposure water demonstrated that only 20%–40% of Cu was present as positively charged low molecular mass（LMM） Cu species assumed to be bioavailable. When exposed to road salt and Cu mixtures, negative effects in alevins such as reduced growth, deformities,delayed swim-up and mortality were observed. The overall results indicated that the road salt application could seriously affect sensitive life stages of Atlantic salmon, and application of road salt should be avoided during the late winter–early spring period.

Studies related to the prediction of post-hepatectomy liver failure(PhLF)have seen a surge in recent literature.A PubMed search using the terms((“pred*”OR“nomogra*”OR“model*”)AND(“mortality”OR“liver failure”OR“PhLF”)AND(“hepatect*”OR“liver resect*”))revealed 29 relevant studies on PhLF prediction between January 2020 and November 2023,with 20 adhering to grade B/C International Study Group of Liver Surgery(ISGLS)definitions(Table 1).These studies are primarily enrolling patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(hCC).This underscores the growing interest in applying such predictive scores in routine clinical ***,the extent to which these predictive models can be effectively implemented in clinical settings remains unclear(21,22).Indeed,all studies are retrospective,and only a limited number underwent external *** is crucial to recognize that these scores predominantly emerge within surgical cohorts,where patients underwent prior meticulous selection,leading to tailored surgical strategies and the exclusion of specific candidates(21).

Four-wire measurements have been introduced by Lord Kelvin in 1861 and have since become the standard technique for characterizing small resistances and ***,high-density 4-wire measurements are generally complex,time-consuming,and inefficient because of constraints on interconnects,pads,external wires,and mechanical contacts,thus reducing reproducibility,statistical significance,and throu ***,we introduce,systematically design,analyze,and experimentally validate zero interconnect networks interfaced to external instrumentation by couples of twin wire.3D-printed holders with magnets,interconnects,nonadhesive layers,and spacers can effortlessly establish excellent electrical connections with tunable or minimum contact forces and enable accurate measurements even for delicate devices,such as thin metals on soft *** an example,we measured all the resistances of a twin-wire 29-resistor network made of silver-nanoparticle ink printed on polyimide,paper,or photo paper,including during sintering or temperature calibration,resulting in anunprecedentedly easy and accurate characterization of both resistivity and its temperature *** theoretical framework and experimental strategies reported here represent a breakthrough toward zero interconnect,simple,and efficient high-density 4-wire characterizations,can be generalized to other 4-wire measurements(impedances,sensors)and can open the way to more statistically meaningful and reproducible analyses of materials,high-throughput measurements,and minimally invasive characterizations of biomaterials.

Active noise controls are used in a wide field of applications to cancel out unwanted surrounding noise. Control systems based on the feedback structure however have the disadvantage that they may become unstable during run-time due to changes in the control path—in this context including the listener’s ear. Especially when applied to active noise cancellation (ANC) headphones, the risk of instability is associated with the risk of harmful influence on the listener’s ear, which is exposed to the speaker in striking distance. This paper discusses several methods to enable the analysis of a feedback ANC system during run-time to immediately detect instability. Finally, a solution is proposed, which identifies the open loop behavior parametrically by means of an adaptive filter to subsequently evaluate the coefficients regarding stability.

Gastric mucosa associated lymphoid tissue （MALT） lymphoma has recently been incorporated into the World health Organization （WhO） lymphoma classification, termed as extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of MALT-type. In about 90% of cases this lymphoma is associated with h pylori infection which has been dearly shown to play a causative role in lymphomagenesis. Although much knowledge has been gained in defining the clinical features, natural history, pathology, and molecular genetics of the disease in the last decade, the optimal treatment approach for gastric MALT lymphomas, especially locally advanced cases, is still evolving. In this review we focus on data for the therapeutic, stage dependent management of gastric MALT lymphoma. hence, the role of eradication therapy, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy is critically analyzed. Based on these data, we suggest a therapeutic algorithm that might help to better stratify patients for optimal treatment success.

Many animal species migrate over long distances, but the physiological challenges of migration are poorly understood. It has recently been suggested that increased molecular oxidative damage might be one important challenge for migratory animals. We tested the hypothesis that autumn migration imposes an oxidative challenge to bats by comparing values of 4 blood-based markers of oxidative status (oxidative damage and both enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants) between Nathusius' bats Pipistrellus nathusii that were caught during migration flights with those measured in conspecifics after resting for 18 or 24 h. Experiments were carried out at Pape Ornithological Station in Pape (Latvia) in 2016 and 2017. Our results show that flying bats have a blood oxidative status different from that of resting bats due to higher oxidative damage and different expression of both non enzymatic and enzymatic antioxidants (glutathione peroxidase). The differences in oxidative status markers varied betwee n sampli ng years and were in depende nt from in dividual body con dition or sex. Our work provides evidence that migratory flight might impose acute oxidative stress to bats and that resting helps animals to recover from oxidative damage accrued en route. Our data suggest that migrating bats and birds might share similar strategies of mitigating and recovering from oxidative stress.
