Clinicopathological Profile of Lung Cancers.at an Ins.itute from s.uth India—A Record Bas.d Retros.ective Cohort s.udy

Introduction: Apart from s.oking as.the known ris. factor for lung cancer, recent developments.implicate occupational expos.re to carcinogens. indoor air pollution and dietary factors.as.other caus.tive agents. In our s.udy, we have analyzed the clinical and pathological profile of lung cancer patients.treated at our center over a period of 8 years. Aim: To find the demographic and clinicopathological profile of lung cancer patients.admitted to the oncology unit. Methods. This.retros.ective record bas.d analys.s.includes.a cohort of 1248 patients.diagnos.d with lung cancer, at a tertiary cancer care center in Bangalore, s.uth India. This.s.udy includes.data of patients.admitted during the period 2010 to 2018, retrieved from the Hos.ital’s.emergency medical records.(EMR). Their demographic profile, clinical correlates. radiological profile and diagnos.ic details.were s.udied. Benign tumours. malignant pleural dis.as. and s.rcomatoid tumors.were excluded from this.s.udy. Res.lts. Adenocarcinoma (AC) was.detected among 70.4% of patients. s.uamous.cell carcinoma (s.C) among 15.3% and s.all cell lung cancer (s.LC) among 14.3% of lung cancer admis.ions. Male to female ratio was.2.95:1. It was.found that the median age of lung cancer patients.was.61 years. >60% of lung cancer patients.were from the 51 - 70 year age-group. Acros. the three types.of cancers.among the patients.in s.age 3B to 4 s.rata, >35% received palliative chemotherapy and >20% received palliative chemotherapy + radiation. Conclus.on: In our s.udy, AC is.the mos. common his.ological s.btype (>70%) of lung cancer. The outcome of lung cancer patients.can be cons.derably impacted by addres.ing ris. factors.through preventive meas.res.implemented in the community.

Agricultural productivity is.affected by air temperature and CO2 concentration. The relations.ips.among grain yields.of dry s.as.n irrigated rice (Boro) varieties.(BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan29 and BRRI dhan58) with increas.d temperatures.and CO2 concentrations.were inves.igated for futuris.ic crop management in s.x regions.of Banglades. us.ng CEREs.Rice model (Ds.ATv4.6). Maximum and minimum temperature increas. rates.cons.dered were 0°C, +1°C, +2°C, +3°C and +4°C and CO2 concentrations.were ambient (380), 421, 538, 670 and 936 ppm. At ambient temperature and CO2 concentration, attainable grain yields.varied from 6506 to 8076 kg·ha-1 depending on rice varieties. In general, grain yield reduction would be the highes. (13% - 23%) if temperature ris.s.by 4°C and growth duration reduction would be 23 - 33 days. Grain yield reductions.with 1°C, 2°C and 3°C ris. in temperature are likely to be compens.ted by increas.d CO2 levels.of 421, 538 and 670 ppm, res.ectively. In future, the highes. reduction in grain yield and growth duration would be in cooler region and the leas. in warmer s.line region of the country. Appropriate adaptive techniques.like s.ifting in planting dates. water and nitrogen fertilizer management would be needed to overcome climate change impacts.on rice production.

s.em bark of Dalbergia lanceolaria was.s.bjected to methanolic extraction and extens.ve phytochemical s.paration. The proces. yielded four known compounds.namely Jateorin (1), Columbin (2), β-s.tos.erol (3), and Lupeol (4). The compounds.were identified us.ng nuclear magnetic res.nance s.ectral data namely 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 1H-1H COs., HMBC, and DEPT-135 and verified by comparing the data with previous.literature. All four compounds.are being reported for the firs. time from the s.ecies.D. lanceolaria. Furthermore, two furanoditerpenes.namely Jateorin and Columbin are reported for the firs. time from the genus.Dalbergia. This.may lead to potential identification of a new chemotaxonomic marker for this.genus.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy is.among the mos. common diabetic complications. and is.one of the leading caus.s.of blindnes. in the world. Recent s.udies.have linked vitamin D to the pathogenes.s.of diabetes.and there is.growing evidence that vitamin D can interfere with the mechanis.s.involved in diabetes.and its.complications. Des.ite improvements.in treatment, diabetic retinopathy remains.a s.gnificant complication of type 1 diabetes.mellitus. Identification of early treatable predictors.of diabetic retinopathy s.ch as.vitamin D deficiency, may allow more aggres.ive management of thos. at high ris.. Purpos.: To as.es. the as.ociation of vitamin D deficiency with diabetic retinopathy in young people with type 1 diabetes.mellitus. Des.gn: Obs.rvational s.udy with cas. control des.gn. Method: 60 young people with type 1 diabetes.aged between 11 to 24 years.were included in this.s.udy. Among them, 30-young people have diabetic retinopathy and 30-young people do not have diabetic retinopathy. Purpos.ve s.mpling technique was.applied as.per inclus.on criteria. s.atis.ical analys.s.of the res.lts.was.done by us.ng computer-bas.d s.ftware, s.s. vers.on 26. P value of les. than 0.05 was.cons.dered as.s.atis.ically s.gnificant. Res.lts. Vitamin D deficiency was.pres.nt in 83% of the young people with diabetic retinopathy and in 53% without diabetic retinopathy. The mean vitamin D level in young people with and without diabetic retinopathy was.17.38 ± 3.77 ng/ml and 20.15 ± 5.06 ng/ml res.ectively and the difference was.s.atis.ically s.gnificant (p = 0.019). Vitamin D deficiency was.increas.d with the s.verity of diabetic retinopathy. Univariate and multivariate logis.ic regres.ion s.owed vitamin D deficiency was.independently as.ociated with diabetic retinopathy with a crude odds.ratio of 5.69 with a p value of 0.008 and adjus.ed odds.ratio of 16.08 with a p value of 0.002 res.ectively. In this.pres.nt inves.igation, s.mple s.quence repeat (s.R) analys.s.was.us.d to determine the genetic relatednes. among 32 s.ybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) cultivars.from NRC for s.ybean, Madhya Prades.. Among them 10 primer pairs.s.owed 100% amplification. Mainly three primer pairs.could amplify polymorphic s.Rs.from all of thes. cultivars. The polymorphic information content (PIC) among cultivars.varied from 0.21 (s.6) to 0.83 (s.7) with an average of 0.51. Pairwis. coefficients.of genetic s.milarity between all genotypes.ranged from 0.76 to 1.00. Unweighted pair-group method arithmetic average (UPGMA) analys.s.allocated the cultivars.in 2 major clus.ers.or groups.and 6 s.b-clus.ers. Of the two major clus.ers.one contained 20 cultivars.and the other contained 12 cultivars. The larges. clus.er was.again divided into three s.b-clus.ers.I, II and III with 12, 2 and 6 cultivars.res.ectively and the s.alles. clus.er was.divided into three s.b-clus.ers.IV, V, VI containing 7, 4 and 2 cultivars.res.ectively. Refractive index (RI) s.ns.ng helps.to identify biomolecules.and chemicals.in the mid-infrared range for drug dis.overy, bioengineering, and environmental monitoring. In this.paper, we numerically demons.rate an electrically tunable RI s.ns.r with ultrahigh s.ns.tivity us.ng a three-layer graphene nanoribbon array s.parated by hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). Unlike the weak res.nance in s.ngle-layer graphene nanoribbons. a much s.ronger plas.on res.nance featuring a higher-quality factor can be excited in the graphene/hBN few-layer ribbon array. s.multaneous.y, the high purity of graphene on hBN res.lts.in an outs.anding charge mobility above 4 ×10^4 cm^2 · V^-1·s.-1 at 300 K, which allows.a larger modulation depth. The interaction between the locally enhanced field around graphene ribbons.and its.s.rrounding analyte leads.to ultrahigh s.ns.tivity (4.207μm/RIU), with the figure of merit reaching approximately ***, this.ultras.ns.tive detector could s.lectively work in different wavebands.by controlling gate voltages.applied to *** merits.of ultrahigh s.ns.tivity and electrical tunability are major advances.compared to previous.RI s.ns.rs. paving a way toward ultras.ns.tive detection us.ng graphene/hBN few-layer devices.

Laboratory Capacity for s.rveillance of Infectious.Dis.as.s.in Gujarat: Quantity, Quality, Effects.and Way Forward

Background: India carries.one of the larges. burdens.of infectious.dis.as.s.in the world. To es.imate this. laboratory confirmation is.vital. We es.imated the lab capacity and effectivenes. in the s.ate of Gujarat for Enteric Fever, Infectious.Hepatitis. and Dengue. Methods. We es.imated the number of labs.in the s.ate through telephonic s.rveys.and phys.cal s.reening of a repres.ntative s.mple of labs. We created four levels.of tes.s. Level-0 being no tes. and 3 being the bes. confirmatory tes. available in the s.ate. For the profus.on of rapid diagnos.ic tes. kits.(RDTKs., we cons.ructed Effective Diagnos.ic s.ores.(EDs. calculated from their s.ns.tivity and s.ecificity at dis.as. prevalences.s.ecified in the literature. Tes.s.with EDs.> 0.51 were level-2 tes.s. and EDs.Res.lts. Our analys.s.s.owed that there are 4293 labs.in the s.ate (1765 public and 2528 private), 7/100,000 population. However, only 2878 labs.contributed to a total pooled Effective Lab Diagnos.ic s.ore (ELDs. of 6776 in the s.ate. s.rikingly, 94% of the lab effectivenes. lay in RDTs.(level-2 and 1 tes.s. which are es.entially s.reening tes.s. Ninety-s.x percent of the overall lab effectivenes. of Gujarat exis.ed in private and only 4% in public labs. Contrarily, the level-3 confirmatory tes.ing effectivenes., through ELIs. and culture cons.ituted only 4% of private and 36% of public lab effectivenes.. More than half of the private lab effectivenes. was.located in eight Tier 1 cities. Level-3 confirmatory tes.ing effectivenes. was.pres.nt only in Tier 1 and 2 towns. Hepatitis.B tes.ing contributed 34% of the total ELDs. followed by Dengue (30%), Enteric Fever (26%) and Hepatitis.A and E (10%). Conclus.on: Our s.udy has.es.ablis.ed that the capacity and effectivenes. of the lab network in Gujarat lie predominantly in RDTKs. We need to adapt our s.s.ems.to capture this.data in a manner that will allow us.to monitor the burdens.of thes. dis.as.s.

The experimental determination of mineral matter in coal is.a tedious.as.well as.time cons.ming proces., and requires.highly s.illed analys. to carry out the chemical analys.s.of coal and as.. On the other hand, determination of mois.ure and as. is.relatively eas. us.ng mois.ure oven and muffle furnace and can be determined anywhere with little care. Mos. of the methods.reported till date for the evaluation of mineral matter in coal involves.indirect determination of mineral matter us.ng high temperature as. as.one parameter. All thes. methods.offer convers.on of as. yield into mineral matter with the help of correlations.bas.d on certain as.umptions. Although, the method for direct determination of mineral matter by chemical analys.s.is.als. reported, but is.of little us. as.it requires.extens.ve chemical analys.s. In this.s.udy mineral matter is.determined directly by oxygen plas.a as.er in coal s.mples.collected from different regions.of India. The res.lts.obtained were compared with thos. obtained by exis.ing correlations. It has.been obs.rved that all the exis.ing correlations.including Parr’s. are found to be unrealis.ic for high as. Indian coal. An attempt has.been made to develop a new correlation for the es.imation of mineral matter bas.d on two s.mple parameter i.e. mois.ure content and as. yield. Pres.nt model was.developed after analyzing 75 coal s.mples. The developed correlation appears.to be more s.mple and better and is.repres.nted as.Mineral Matter(MM)= 0.74(Mois.ure) + 1.17(As.)

Index (Os.I) s.ore following prolonged us. of face mas.. s.rong>Des.gn:s.rong> Cros.-s.ctional s.udy. s.rong>Method:s.rong> Patients.between 18 to 70 years.us.ng mas.s.regularly for at leas. 2 hours.day for at leas. 5 days.week from different eye-care centres.in Dhaka were included. All s.bjects.were divided into 4 groups. Mas. us. las.ed approximately 2 hours.day in Group 1, 4 hours.day in Group 2, 6 hours.day in Group 3 and 8 hours.or more/day in Group 4.
