Multiple malignant extragastrointestinal stromal tumors of the greater omentum and results of immunohistochemistry and mutation analysis:A case report

To report an extragastrointestinal stromal tumor （EGIST） that occurs outside the gastrointestinal tract and shows unique clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical features. In our case, we experienced multiple soft tissue tumors that originate primarily in the greater omentum, and in immunohistochemical analysis, the tumors showed features that correspond to malignant EGIST. Two large omental masses measured 15 cm×10 cm and 5 cm×4 cm sized and several small ovoid fragments were attached to small intestine, mesentery and peritoneum. On histologic findings, the masses were separated from small bowel serosa and had high mitotic count （115/50 HPFs）. In the results of immunohistochemical stains, the tumor showed CDl17 （c-kit） positive reactivity and high Ki-67 labeling index. On mutation analysis, the c-kit gene mutation was found in the juxtamembrane domain （exon 11）and it was heterozygote. Platelet-derived growth factor receptor （PDGFR） gene mutation was also found in the juxtamemembrane （exon 12） and it was polymorphism. From above findings, we proposed that there may be several mutational pathways to malignant EGIST, so further investigations could be needed to approach this unfavorable disease entity.

Studying the complex quantum dynamics of interacting many-body systems is one of the most challenging areas in modern physics. Here, we use machine learning (ML) models to identify the symmetrized base states of interacting Rydberg atoms of various atom numbers (up to six) and geometric configurations. To obtain the data set for training the ML classifiers, we generate Rydberg excitation probability profiles that simulate experimental data by utilizing Lindblad equations that incorporate laser intensities and phase noise. Then, we classify the data sets using support vector machines (SVMs) and random forest classifiers (RFCs). With these ML models, we achieve high accuracy of up to 100% for data sets containing only a few hundred samples, especially for the closed atom configurations such as the pentagonal (five atoms) and hexagonal (six atoms) systems. The results demonstrate that computationally cost-effective ML models can be used in the identification of Rydberg atom configurations.

Understanding the interactions between water and atmospheric aerosols is critical for estimating their impact on the radiation budget and cloud formation. The hygroscopic behavior of ultrafine （〈100nm） ammonium sulfate particles internally mixed with either succinic acid （slightly soluble） or levoglucosan （soluble） in different mixing structures （core-shell vs. well-mixed} were measured using a hygroscopicity tandem differential mobility analyzer （HTDMA）. During the hydration process （6-92% relative humidity （RH））, the size of core-shell particles （ammonium sulfate and succinic acid） remained unchanged until a slow increase in particle size occurred at 79Y~ RH; however, an abrupt increase in size （i.e., a clear deliquescence） was observed at ~72% RH for well-mixed particles with a similar volume fraction to the core-shell particles （80：20 by volume）. This increase might occur because the shell hindered the complete dissolution of the core-shell particles below 92% RH. The onset RH value was lower for the ammonium sulfate/levoglucosan core-shell particles than the ammonium sulfate/succinic acid core-shell particles due to levoglucosan＇s higher solubility relative to succinic acid. The growth factor （GF） of the core-shell particles was lower than that of the well-mixed particles, while the GF of the ammonium sulfate/levoglucosan particles was higher than that of ammonium sulfate/succinic acid particles with the same volume fractions. As the volume fraction of the organic species increased, the GF decreased. The data suggest that the mixing structure is also important when determining hygroscopic behavior of the mixed particles.

Mg-Al-Zn-Ca-Y alloys with excellent ignition and corrosion resistances—termed SEN alloys(where the letters"S,""E,"and"N"stand for stainless,environmentally friendly,and non-flammable,respectively)—have been developed *** this study,the microstructure,tensile properties,and high-cycle fatigue properties of an extruded Mg-9.0Al-0.8Zn-0.1Mn-0.3Ca-0.2Y(SEN9)alloy are investigated and compared with those of a commercial Mg-9.0Al-0.8Zn-0.1Mn(AZ91)alloy extruded under the same *** the extruded SEN9 alloy and the extruded AZ91 alloy have a fully recrystallized structure comprising equiaxed grains,but the former has a smaller average grain size owing to the promoted dynamic recrystallization during *** extruded AZ91 alloy contains coarse Mg_(17)Al_(12) discontinuous precipitate(DP)bands parallel to the extrusion direction,which are formed during its cool down after *** contrast,the extruded SEN9 alloy contains relatively fine undissolved Al_(2)Ca,Al_(8)Mn_(4)Y,and Al_(2)Y second-phase particles,which are formed during the solidification stage of the casting *** tensile strength of the extruded SEN9 alloy,which has finer grains and more abundant particles,is slightly higher than that of the extruded AZ91 ***,the difference in their strengths is relatively small because the stronger solid-solution hardening and precipitation hardening effects in the extruded AZ91alloy offset the stronger grain-boundary hardening and dispersion hardening effects in the extruded SEN9alloy to some *** tensile elongation of the extruded AZ91 alloy is significantly lower than that of the extruded SEN9 alloy because the large cracks formed in the DP bands in the former cause its premature *** the extruded SEN9 alloy has higher tensile properties than the extruded AZ91alloy,the high-cycle fatigue life and fatigue strength of the former are shorter and lower,respectively,than those of the *** DP bands in the extruded

AIM: To compare the risk of developing advanced colorectal neoplasm(ACRN) according to age in ***: A total of 70428 Koreans from an occupational cohort who underwent a colonoscopy between 2003 and 2012 at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital were retrospectively selected. We evaluated and compared odds ratios(OR) for ACRN between the young-adults(YA < 50 years) and in the older-adults(OA ≥ 50 years). ACRN was defined as an adenoma ≥ 10 mm in diameter, adenoma with any component of villous histology, high-grade dysplasia, or invasive ***: In the YA group, age(OR = 1.08, 95%CI: 1.06-1.09), male sex(OR = 1.26, 95%CI: 1.02-1.55), current smoking(OR = 1.37, 95%CI: 1.15-1.63), family history of colorectal cancer(OR = 1.46, 95%CI: 1.01-2.10), diabetes mellitus related factors(OR = 1.27, 95%CI: 1.06-1.54), obesity(OR = 1.23, 95%CI: 1.03-1.47), CEA(OR = 1.04, 95%CI: 1.01-1.09) and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(OR = 1.01, 95%CI: 1.01-1.02) were related with an increased risk of ACRN. However, age(OR = 1.08, 95%CI: 1.06-1.09), male sex(OR = 2.12, 95%CI: 1.68-2.68), current smoking(OR = 1.38, 95%CI: 1.12-1.71), obesity(OR = 1.34, 95%CI: 1.09-1.65) and CEA(OR = 1.05, 95%CI: 1.01-1.09) also increased the risk of ACRN in the OA ***: The risks of ACRN differed based on age group. Different colonoscopic screening strategies are appropriate for particular subjects with risk factors for ACRN, even in subjects younger than 50 years.

In this study, the deformation behaviors and related microstructural evolutions were investigated in either monotonic or cyclic deformation modes in an interstitial metastable high-entropy alloy. These investigations aimed to reveal the mechanisms underlying the superior low-cycle fatigue(LCF) life of this alloy.A thermomechanical process was applied to induce fine-grained(FG) and coarse-grained(CG) microstructures in Fe–30Mn–10Co–10Cr–0.4C(atomic percentage) alloy. Their superior combination of strength and ductility was attributed to the appearance of deformation-induced ε-martensite and the presence of carbon. The CG alloy showed a greater volume fraction of ε-martensite than the FG alloy in the monotonic deformation mode, and vice versa in the cyclic mode. Such a disparity was interpreted in light of the back-stress effect of the relaxed γ-grain boundaries in the latter mode. Meanwhile, the γ-to-ε phase transformation under cyclic loading at low strain amplitudes(0.4%) barely led to an improved fatigue life as compared with that at higher strain amplitudes(≥ 0.55%). The high reversibility of partial dislocation motions under cyclic loading and delaying the formation of dislocation cells through the martensitic transformation could explain why the alloys investigated in this study exhibited a superior LCF life compared with high-entropy alloys reported in previous studies.

Pockets in proteins have been known to be very important for the life process. There have been several studies in the past to automatically extract the pockets from the structure information of known proteins. However, it is difficult to find a study comparing the precision of the extracted pockets from known pockets on the protein. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for extracting pockets from structure data of proteins and analyze the quality of the algorithm by comparing the extracted pockets with some known pockets. These results in this paper can be used to set the parameter values of the pocket extraction algorithm for getting better results.

Realizing a lithium sulfide(Li_(2)S)cathode with both high energy density and a long lifespan requires an innovative cathode design that maximizes electrochemical performance and resists electrode ***,a high-loading Li_(2)S-based cathode with micrometric Li_(2)S particles composed of two-dimensional graphene(Gr)and one-dimensional carbon nanotubes(CNTs)in a compact geometry is developed,and the role of CNTs in stable cycling of high-capacity Li–S batteries is *** a dimensionally combined carbon matrix,CNTs embedded within the Gr sheets create robust and sustainable electron diffusion pathways while suppressing the passivation of the active carbon *** a unique point,during the first charging process,the proposed cathode is fully activated through the direct conversion of Li_(2)S into S_(8) without inducing lithium polysulfide *** direct conversion of Li_(2)S into S_(8) in the composite cathode is ubiquitously investigated using the combined study of in situ Raman spectroscopy,in situ optical microscopy,and cryogenic transmission electron *** composite cathode demonstrates unprecedented electrochemical properties even with a high Li_(2)S loading of 10 mg cm^(–2);in particular,the practical and safe Li–S full cell coupled with a graphite anode shows ultra-long-term cycling stability over 800 cycles.
