Nurse plants are those that facilitate the growth and development of other plant species (target species) beneath their canopy because they offer benign microhabitats that are more favorable for seed germination and/or seedling recruitment than their surrounding envi-ronment. Nurse plants have been mainly used to restore vegetation in arid and sub-arid zones in recent years. based on summarizing the definition of nurse plant and target plant,we review the nursing effect mechanisms,ecological factors that influence nursing effect,rela-tionships between nurse plant and ecological restoration. This review also brings forward possible pairs of nurse and target species at lower subtropical areas. Furthermore,we provide the potential tendency in nurse plant research and application.

The Annual Report on Cardiovascular Health and Diseases in china(2022)intricate landscape of cardiovascular health in *** is the third section of the report with a specific focus on community-based prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases(CVD).This section of the report underscores the importance of initiatives outlined in the"Healthy china 2030 Plan,"emphasizing the comprehensive prevention and control strategy for chronic diseases.A key aspect of this plan involves the establishment of national demonstration areas aimed at comprehensive prevention and control of chronic *** 2020,488 such areas had been set up across china,surpassing the initial target and covering a significant proportion of counties and *** report highlights the successful implementation of these strategies in Lishan district,Anshan city,where demonstration areas for comprehensive prevention and control of chronic diseases were launched in *** the course of seven years,the number of healthy units increased substantially,leading to improvements in managing risk factors for CVD among *** reductions in prevalence rates of overweight,obesity,smoking,passive smoking,and drinking were observed,along with the development of healthier behaviors among ***,Qiaokou district in wuhan City,designated as a national demonstration area in 2014,implemented comprehensive public health promotion ***,special clinics for hypertension intervention were established,contributing to an increase in self-reported rates of hypertension,a slight decrease in prevalence,and a remarkable improvement in the control rate among treated ***,these efforts underscore the effectiveness of community-based approaches in driving positive health outcomes and advancing the comprehensive prevention and control of chronic diseases,particularly cardiovascular diseases,in china.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are 21-23 nucleotide (nt), endogenous RNAs that regulate gene expression by targeting mRNAs for direct cleavage or translational repression in plants. In Arabidopsis, miR396 is encoded by two different loci (MIR396a and MIR396b) and sequence analysis suggests it may target three ceramidase-like genes (Atceramidase-like 1, Atceramidase-like 2 and Atceramidase-like 3). To demonstrate the biological function of miR396, we inserted the synthetic precursors, MIR396a or MIR396b, under the control of the enhanced cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter, into a plant transformation vector (pOCA30) and transformed the constructs into Arabidopsis. The promoter increased miR396 levels by more than 2-fold, indicating appropriate maturation of the synthetic precursor MIR396a or MIR396b transcript in transgenic plants. Microarray analysis showed that the transcript levels of two ceramidase-like genes (Atceramidase-like 1, Atceramidase-like 2) were decreased by more than 2-fold and lactosylceramide 4-a-galactosyltransferase increased by more than 2-fold in transgenic plants compared with the empty vector-transformed plants. Northern blot analysis showed that the mRNA levels of the two ceramidase-like genes were significantly reduced in transgenic plants. These results indicated that miR396 probably plays a crucial role in the ceramide metabolism pathway by negatively regulating the expression of ceramidase-like genes in Arabidopsis.

A DISCUSSION ON bIOGEOGRAPHICAL LINES OF THE TROPICAL SUbTROPICAL YUNNAN

based on comparative studies on four regional floras from northwest, west, south and southeast of Yunnan respectively, the formerly suggested two biogeographical lines, i.e. the “Tanaka Line" and the “Ecogeographical Diagonal Line", both going from northwest to southeast of Yunnan, and their significance are discussed. In family and generic levels, similarity coefficients among the four compared floras are more than 93% and 60% separately, which indicate the close floristic affinities among them. The highest similarity coefficient, i.e. 98.7% in family level and 78.6% in generic level separately, is found between the regional flora of northwest Yunnan and the flora of southeast Yunnan although these two regions are the most distant away each other among the compared regional floras. The flora of northwest Yunnan is also the most similar to the flora of southeast Yunnan in floristic composition. These support the idea of “Ecogeographical Diagonal Line". In specific level, the relatively high similarity coefficient is between the regional flora of west Yunnan and the one of south Yunnan. The floristic affinities among these regional floras and some distribution patterns could be explained by the geological history and tectonic theory of Yunnan.

In many eukaryotes including mammals and plants,histone H3 lysine 9 methylation (H3K9me) and cytosine methylation(5meC) are targeted to transposons and repeats to silence these sequences,thereby preventing deleterious consequences such as the expression of aberrant gene products and transposon *** Arabidopsis, H3K9me mediated by the SUVH4,SUVH5,and SUVH6 histone methyltransferases (MTases) is associated with 5meC mediated by the CMT3 cytosine *** order to understand targeting of H3K9me,we developed a strategy to track hotspots of SUVH *** strategy uses expression of SUVH active site mutants predicted to catalyze tri-methylation of H3 K9(H3K9me3),rather than the mono- or di-methylation catalyzed by wild type SUVH *** focused on the SUVH6 MTase,which acts preferentially at a transcribed inverted repeat *** found that the SUVH6 active site mutant drives H3K9me3 specifically at this preferred *** addition,the H3me3K9 modification results in enhanced 5meC at the preferred target through enhanced CMT3 *** both H3K9me3 and enhanced 5meC are novel epigenetic signatures,the SUVH active site mutant strategy provides a means to track H3 K9 MTase activity genome-wide with high-throughput approaches.

The dipterans are one of, the largest groups of insects as well as flower visitors. The flowering plants that are pollinated by flies have been described as having green or yellowish small, actinomorphic flowers that are flat with little or no depth, the sexual organs well-exposed, easily accessible small amount nectar, and sweet odor. This generalization, however, was based on observations on plants pollinated by both nectar- and pollen-seeking flies, although pollen-feeding and nectar-foraging by flies apparently have different influences on the structural adaptation and evolution of the flowers. Since flies instinctively favor green, yellow and purplish colors, and they are generally small insects with short, and less directional flying behavior, and they transfer pollen with their whole body (pollen are not precisely positioned), the plants pollinated by nectar-seeking flies are expected to have small greenish or yellowish flawers with little depth and exposed and spreading stamens;stamens and styles of equal length, and herkogamy will not be favored;to adapt to the pollinating flies, with their short, suctorial mouthparts that forage nectar by mopping, fly-pollinated flowers with well-exposed annular nectary that produces small amount of dilute nectar will be selected. Similar to other small, generalized pollinators elucidated by bawa and his collaborators, flies, with their poor moving ability, tend to move within the individual plants and bring about geitonogamy. The evolutionary pressure to avoid self-depression, then, will favor dioecy or synchronized dichogamy in fly-pollinated plants. because the flies are relatively small insects and inefficient pollen-carriers, the flowers pollinated by them should have relatively lower pollen number, and subsequently lower ovule number per flower, to encounter the pollen limitation thus caused, populations with more male flowers, either in the form of male individuals or additional male flowers in the hermaphrodite ind

Tectariaceae are a pantropical fern family of about 20 genera, among which 8 are distributed in china. The morphological distinctiveness of the family is widely recognized, yet relatively little systematic research has been conducted on members of Tectariaceae. Phylogenetic analyses of chloroplast DNA sequence data (rbcL; atpb) from 15 species representing all 8 genera in china were carried out under parsimony criteria; bayesian inference. The phylogenetic reconstructions indicated that the fern family Tectariaceae as traditionally circumscribed are polyphyletic. Ctenitis, Dryopsis, Lastreopsis clustered with; should be included within the newly-defined Dryopteridaceae,; Pleocnemia is also tentatively assigned to it. A narrowly monophyletic Tectariaceae is identified, which includes Ctenitopsis, Hemigramma, Pteridrys, Quercifilix,; Tectaria. In the single rbcL analysis, Arthropteris clustered with the above-mentioned monophyletic Tectariaceae. Although further investigations are still needed to identify infrafamilial relationships within the monophyletic Tectariaceae; to redefine several problematic genera, we propose a working concept here that better reflects the inferred evolutionary history of this group.
