An impurity powder dropper was installed in the 21 st campaign of the Large Helical Device experiment(Oct.2019–Feb.2020)under a collaboration between the National Institute for Fusion Science and the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory for the purposes of real-time wall conditioning and edge plasma *** order to assess the effective injection of the impurity powders,spectroscopic diagnostics were applied to observe line emission from the injected ***,extreme-ultraviolet(EUV)and vacuum-ultraviolet(VUV)emission spectra were analyzed to summarize observable impurity lines with B and BN powder *** lines released from B and N ions were identified in the EUV wavelength range of 5–300Ameasured using two grazing incidence flat-field EUV spectrometers and in the VUV wavelength range of 300–2400Ameasured using three normal incidence 20 cm VUV ***–BV and NIII–NVII emission lines were identified in the discharges with the B and BN powder injection,*** B and N emission lines which have large intensities and are isolated from other lines were successfully identified as follows:BI(1825.89,1826.40)A(blended),BII 1362.46A,BIII(677.00,677.14,677.16)A(blended),BIV 60.31A,BV 48.59A,NIII(989.79,991.51,991.58)A(blended),NIV765.15A,NV(209.27,209.31)A(blended),NVI 1896.80A,and NVII *** of the line identifications to the advanced spectroscopic diagnostics were demonstrated,such as the vertical profile measurements for the BV and NVII lines using a space-resolved EUV spectrometer and the ion temperature measurement for the BII line using a normal incidence 3 m VUV spectrometer.

Coal-fired Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle （IGCC） and Integrated coal Gasification Fuel-cell Com- bined cycle （IGFC） are being developed as high-efficiency electric power generation technology. However, the highest theoretical gross thermal efficiency of the conventional IGCC]IGFC is still below 52~. In order to obtain higher power generation efficiency, an advanced IGCC （A-IGCC） or advanced IGFC （A-IGFC） sys- tem making use of the exergy recuperation concept by recycling waste heat from gas turbine or fuel cells for steam gasification of coal and biomass was proposed in our laboratory, Corresponding to this system, a novel high-density triple-bed combined circulating fluidized bed （TBCFB） gasifier, composed of a downer pyrolyzer, a bubbling fluidized bed char gasifier, and a riser combustor, was proposed to replace traditional gasifiers such as the entrained flow bed gasifier. The new system is expected to more effectively utilize the waste heat from gas turbines or fuel cells and the heat produced by the combustion of the unreacted char in the riser combustor for pyrolysis and gasification of coal and biomass. In this short review, the advantages and future challenges in the development of high-density TBCFB gasifier are presented and discussed.

Visualization of High-Speed Impact of Projectile in Granular Sheet with Destructive Collision of Particles

The impact and penetration of a projectile in a particle-laden space, which are expected to have frequently occurred during the formation of the solar system and will occur in the case of an impact probe for future planetary exploration, were experimentally simulated by using the ballistic range. A two-dimensional sheet made from small glass beads or emery powder was formed by the free-falling device through a long slit in the test chamber evacuated down to about 35 Pa. A polycarbonate projectile of a hemi-sphere-cylinder or sphere shape with the mass and diameter about 4 g and 25 mm, respectively, was launched at the velocity up to 430 m/s, and the phenomena were observed by the high-speed camera at 20,000 fps. From a series of images, the bow-shock-wave-like laterally facing U-shaped pattern over the projectile and the absence of particles in the trail behind it were clearly seen. At the impact of the particles on the projectile surface, fine grains were formed due to the destructive collision and injected outward from the projectile. The images obtained by different lighting methods including the laser light sheet were compared. The effects of the particle diameter, its material and the impact velocity were also investigated.

Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma of the Cheek with Surface Ulceration: Mimicking Spindle Cell Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS), also called malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH), belongs to the soft tissue tumors and is more likely in elder patients. UPS currently accounts for approximately 18% of cutaneous soft tissue sarcoma except Kaposi sarcoma. The most common sites are the extremities and head and neck. UPS is rapidly enlarging, and easily invades subcutaneous tissue and muscle without overlying skin changes. UPS tumors, which are confined to subcutaneous tissue, have been reported to be less than 10%. On the other hand, the involvement of the epidermis, occasionally with ulceration, is rare. Here, we describe a case of UPS of the cheek with surface ulceration. An 83-year-old man presented with a 1-year history of a red nodule on his left cheek. The size of the nodule gradually increased. Clinical examination revealed a 55 × 45 mm red, hard mass in the center of his left cheek with a large cratershaped ulcer involving the subcutaneous tissue. The bottom of the ulcer contained necrotic tissue. No cervical lymph nodes were palpable. A biopsy revealed a high-grade, pleomorphic spindle cell neoplasm and frequent abnormal mitotic figures within the dermis. We temporarily diagnosed and suspected a soft tissue sarcoma, but we could not rule out spindle cell squamous cell carcinoma (SCSCC). The patient underwent tumor resection and skin grafting. The tumor had reached the muscle layer of his left cheek with invasion and ulceration of the overlying skin. Histopathological examination of the totally resected tumor revealed a neoplasm of mesenchymal origin, rich in cells with morphology and immunohistochemical characteristics compatible with UPS. Malignant cells were not found in the epidermis. Immunohistochemical analyses were positive for vimentin, α-anti-trypsin, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), and CD10, and negative for cytokeratins (CAM5.2 and AE1/AE3), lysozyme, epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), CD34, S-100, desmin, and caldesmon. Destrin, also called actin-depolymerizing factor (ADF), exists in resting parotid tissue as phosphorylated (inactive) and dephosphorylated (active) forms, and β-adrenergic stimulation of this tissue induces dephosphorylation of destrin. It is suggested that destrin dephosphorylation is involved in cortical F-actin disruption observed in parallel with β-agonist-induced amylase secretion. At present, the phosphorylation/dephosphorylation mechanism of destrin in parotid tissue is not known. We previously detected, in a crude rat parotid extract, a constitutively active protein kinase catalyzing phosphorylation of destrin;however, its identification has been hampered by difficulty in its enrichment. The purpose of this study was to explore a simple purification method(s) for this enzyme. To this end, we first developed a high-throughput dot-blot assay for the kinase with an anti-phosphodestrin antibody and then studied its purification by column chromatography on several media. We found that the kinase could be partially purified by sequential chromatography on DEAE-cellulose, phenyl-Sepharose, and hydroxyapatite columns. In each chromatography, however, the kinase could be eluted, at the cost of resolution, only by sharp increases in the elution power of the eluent;gradual increases in the elution power resulted in unacceptably poor recovery. We confirmed that enzymatic properties of the kinase were not basically altered during the purification. Further purification of the kinase was achieved by native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), which resolved the kinase activity into two bands and separated the activity from most proteins (the kinase activity after PAGE was detected with destrin-coated polyvinylidene difluoride membranes and the anti-phosphodestrin antibody). The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the efficacy of saireito for bilateral chronic subdural hematomas (B-CSDH). Between April 2006 and March 2010, a total of 18 patients undergoing unilateral burr hole drainage for B-CSDH took part in a controlled clinical study. Postoperative status of the nonsurgical side was subsequently evaluated, with (n = 10) and without (n = 8) saireito administration. Two in the saireito-treated group patients and four in the control group patients ultimately required contralateral surgical intervention. The remainder, including eight saireito-treated hematomas, resolved without further surgery, generally within eight weeks of the surgical side procedure. However, two of the four resolving control lesions took longer to regress. The hydragogue and anti-inflammatory/steroid-evoking properties ascribed to saireito may facilitate hematoma resolution. After unilateral surgery for B-CSDH, saireito administration may prevent symptomatic deterioration of a contralateral low-density CSDH, preempting subsequent surgery.
