Exploring the transition from inter-ictal to ictal epileptiform discharges(IDs) and how GABAAreceptormediated action affects the onset of IDs will enrich our understanding of epileptogenesis and epilepsy *** used Mg2+-free artificial cerebrospinal fluid(ACSF) to induce epileptiform discharges in juvenile mouse hippocampal slices and used a micro-electrode array to record the discharges. After the slices were exposed to Mg2+-free ACSF for 10 min–20 min, synchronous recurrent seizurelike events were recorded across the slices, and each event evolved from inter-ictal epileptiform discharges(IIDs) to pre-ictal epileptiform discharges(PIDs), and then to *** the transition from IIDs to PIDs, the duration of discharges increased and the inter-discharge interval decreased. After adding 3 lmol/L of the GABAAreceptor agonist muscimol, PIDs and IDs disappeared, and IIDs remained. Further, the application of 10 lmol/L muscimol abolished all the epileptiform discharges. When the GABAAreceptor antagonist bicuculline was applied at 10 lmol/L, IIDs and PIDs disappeared, and IDs remained at decreased intervals. These results indicated that there are dynamic changes in the hippocampal network preceding the onset of IDs, and GABAAreceptor activity suppresses the transition from IIDs to IDs in juvenile mouse hippocampus.

Nutrient deficiency stresses often occur simultaneously in soil. Thus, it＇s necessary to investigate the mechanisms underlying plant responses to multiple stresses through identification of some key stress-responsive genes. Quantitative real-time PCR （qRT-PCR） is essential for detecting the expression of the interested genes, of which the selection of suitable reference genes is a crucial step before qRT-PCR. To date, reliable reference genes to normalize qRT-PCR data under different nutrient deficiencies have not been reported in plants. In this study, expression of ten candidate reference genes was detected in leaves and roots of rapeseed （Brassica napus L.） after implementing different nutrient deficiencies for 14 days. These candidate genes, included two traditionally used reference genes and eight genes selected from an RNA- Seq dataset. Two software packages （GeNorm, NormFinder） were employed to evaluate candidate gene stability. Results showed that VHA-E1 was the highest-ranked gene in leaves of nutrient-deficient rapeseed, while VHA-G1 and UBC21 were most stable in nutrient-deficient roots. When rapeseed leaves and roots were combined, UBC21, HTB1, VHA-G1 and A CT7 were most stable among all samples. To evaluate the stabilities of the highest-ranked genes, the relative expression of two target genes, BnTrxl;1 and BnPhtl;3 Were further determined. The results showed that the relative expression of BnTrxl;1 depended on reference gene selection, suggesting that it＇s necessary to evaluate the stability of reference gene prior to qRT-PCR. This study provides suitable reference genes for gene expression analysis of rapeseed responses to different nutrient deficiencies, which is essential for elucidation of mechanisms underlying rapeseed responses to multiple nutrient deficiency stresses

Four 2-yr old alpacas （（48±2.3） kg） and four 2-yr old sheep （（50±1.7） kg） were used to study the pH and microbial community of forestomach from alpacas （Lama pacos） and sheep （Ovis aries） fed fresh alfalfa as the sole forage at low altitude （793 m）. The forestomach fluid was taken anaerobically via the esophagus. The electric pH meter and quantitative polymerase chain reaction systems were used to study the the pH and microbial community of forestomach. The results showed that the mean pH of forestomach fluid from alpacas was higher than that from sheep （P〈0.01）. The percentages of methanogens and Ruminococcusflavefaciens to total bacterial were lower in the forestomach of alpacas than that in the rumen of sheep, while the percentage of fungi and Fibrobacter succinogenes were higher. The percentage of protozoa was similar in the forestomach of alpacas and sheep. These differences can partly explain the reason that alpacas were lower methane production than sheep.

AIM To retrospectively evaluate the factors that influence long-term outcomes of duodenal papilla carcinoma (DPC) after standard pancreaticoduodenectomy (SPD). METHODS This is a single-centre, retrospective study including 112 DPC patients who had a SPD between 2006 and 2015. Associations between serum levels of CA19-9 and CEA and various clinical characteristics of 112 patients with DPC were evaluated by the. 2 test and Fisher's exact test. The patients were followed-up every 3 mo in the first two years and at least every 6 mo afterwards, with a median follow-up of 60 mo (ranging from 4 mo to 168 mo). Survival analysis was conducted using the Kaplan-Meier survival and Cox proportional hazards model analysis. The difference in survival curves was evaluated with a log-rank test. RESULTS In 112 patients undergoing SPD, serum levels of CA19-9 was associated with serum levels of CEA and drainage mode (the P values were 0.000 and 0.033, respectively); While serum levels of CEA was associated with serum levels of CA19-9 and differentiation of the tumour (the P values were 0.000 and 0.033, respectively). The serum levels of CA19-9 and CEA were closely correlated (chi(2) = 13.277, r = 0.344, P = 0.000). The overall 5-year survival was 50.00% for 112 patients undergoing SPD. The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that increased serum levels of CA19-9, CEA, and total bilirubin were correlated with a poor prognosis, as well as a senior grade of infiltration depth, lymph node metastases, and TNM stage(the P values were 0.033, 0.018, 0.015, 0.000, 0.000 and 0.000, respectively). Only the senior grade of infiltration depth and TNM stage retained their significance when adjustments were made for other known prognostic factors in Cox multivariate analysis (RR = 2.211, P = 0.022 and RR = 2.109, P = 0.047). AIM： To build up the research models of hepatic fibrosis in ***： Inbred wild-type FVB/N mice were either treated with alpha-naphthyl-isothiocyanate （ANIT）, allyl alcohol （AA）,carbon tetrachloride （CCl4）, 3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-l,4-dihydrocollidine （DDC）, and silica, or subjected to common bile duct ligation （CBDL） to induce hepatic injury. Liver biopsies were performed every 4 wk to evaluate hepatic fibrosis over a period of 6 mo. Cumulative cirrhosis and survival curves were constructed by life table method and compared with Wilcoxon ***： Under the dosages used, there was neither mortality nor cirrhosis in AA and silica-treated groups. DDC and ANIT caused cirrhosis within 4-12 and 12-24 wk, *** showed significantly faster cirrhosis induction at high dosages without significant alteration of survival. The duration for cirrhosis induction by CCl4 ranged from 4 to 20 wk, mainly dependent upon the dosage. However, the increase in CCl4 dosage significantly worsened survival. Intraperitoneal CCl4 administration resulted in better survival in comparison with garage administration at high dosage, but not at medium and low dosages. After CBDL, all the mice developed liver cirrhosis within 4-8 wk and then died by the end of 26 ***： CBDL and administrations of ANIT, CCl4, and DDC ensured liver cirrhosis. CBDL required the least amount of time in cirrhosis induction, but caused shortened lives of mice. It was followed by DDC and ANIT administration with favorable survival. As for CCl4, the speed of cirrhosis induction and the mouse survival depended upon the dosages and the administration route.

The complete mitochondrial （mt） genome of the plant bug, Apolygus lucorum, an important cotton pest, has been sequenced and annotated in this study. The entire circular genome is 14 768 bp in size and represents the smallest in presently known heteropteran mt genomes. The mt genome is encoding for two ribosomal RNA （rRNA） genes, 22 transfer RNA （tRNA） genes, 13 protein coding genes and a control region, and the order, content, codon usage and base organization show similarity to a great extent to the hypothetical ancestral model. All protein coding genes use standard initiation codons ATN. Conventional stop codons TAA and TAG have been assigned to the most protein coding genes; however, COIII, ND4 and ND5 genes show incomplete terminator signal （T）. All tRNA genes possess the typical clover leaf structure, but the dihydrouridine arm of tRNAser（A6N） only forms a simple loop. Secondary structure models of rRNA genes are generally in accordance with the former models, although some differences exist in certain parts. Three intergenic spacers have never been found in sequenced mt genomes of Heteroptera. The phylogenetic study based on protein coding genes is largely congruent with previous phylogenetic work. Both Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood analyses highly support the sister relationship ofA. lucorum and Lygus lineolaris, and Miridae presents a sister position to Anthocoridae.
