Projected increases in population exposure of daily climate extremes in eastern China by 2050

Climate extremes pose severe threats to human health,economic stability and environmental sustainability,especially in densely populated *** is generally believed that global warming drives increase in frequency,intensity and duration of climate extremes,and socioeconomic exposure plays a dominant role in climate *** order to promote climate risk governance at regional level,the historical and projected trends in the population exposure to climate extremes are quantified in eastern China using downscaled climate simulations and population growth *** frequency of temperature extremes(tx35days)is projected to more than double by 2050 in nearly half of prefecture-level cities in eastern China,leading to an 81.8%increment of total exposure under SSP2-4.5 *** increasing trend is also detectable in the frequency of precipitation extremes(r20mm)in eastern China,and the exposure increment is projected to be 22.9%by 2050,with a near equivalent contributions of both climate change and population ***,temperature exposure mainly grows in southern Hebei,western Shandong and inland Guangdong provinces,while precipitation exposure raises principally in southeast coastal areas of *** on the historical baseline and projected amplification of population exposure,we identify some hotspot cities such as Guangzhou,Shanghai,Dongguan and Hangzhou that response to climate change dramatically and confront greater potential risk of climate extremes in the coming future.

Unusual gastric tumors and tumor-like lesions: Radiological with pathological correlation and literature review

Although gastric tumors have overlapping radiologic appearances, some unusual tumors may present specific imaging features. Using multidetector computed tomography(MDCT), with water as a negative oral contrast agent and intravenous contrast medium, can provide critical information for the diagnosis of gastric diseases. In addition, MDCT can evaluate the involvement of the gastric wall and extragastric extent of the disease, as compared with gastroenteroscopy and double-contrast upper gastrointestinal study. Regarding lesion location and size, enhancing and growth patterns, presence of calcification or fat, and involvement of the gastric wall and adjacent structures, CT may provide useful information. In this review article, we review the relevant literature and discuss the CT features and the histopathologic findings of different types of gastric lesions. The lesions are divided into benign(glomus tumors, schwannomas, leiomyomas, and lipomas), malignant(gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mucinous carcinomas, lymphomas, and carcinoid tumors), and tumor-like lesions(ectopic pancreas and bezoar). Familiarity with imaging appearances and pathologic findings can help physicians make an accurate diagnosis.

Prospective randomized comparison of oral sodium phosphate and polyethylene glycol lavage for colonoscopy preparation

AIM: To compare the effectiveness, patient acceptability, and physical tolerability of two oral lavage solutions prior to colonoscopy in a Taiwan Residents population. METHODS: Eighty consecutive patients were randomized to receive either standard 4 L of polyethylene glycol (PEG) or 90 mL of sodium phosphate (NaP) in a split regimen of two 45 mL doses separated by 12 h, prior to colonoscopic evaluation. The primary endpoint was the percent of subjects who had completed the preparation. Secondary endpoints included colonic cleansing evaluated with an overall assessment and segmental evaluation, the tolerance and acceptability assessed by a selfadministered structured questionnaire, and a safety profile such as any unexpected adverse events, electrolyte tests, physical exams, vital signs, and body weights. RESULTS: A significantly higher completion rate was found in the NaP group compared to the PEG group(84.2% vs 27.5%, P＜0.001). The amount of fluid suctioned was significantly less in patients taking NaP vs PEG (50.13±54.8 cc vs 121.13±115.4 cc, P＜0.001),even after controlling for completion of the oral solution(P = 0.031). The two groups showed a comparable overall assessment of bowel preparation with a rate of 'good' or 'excellent' in 78.9% of patients in the NaPgroup and 82.5% in PEG group (P = 0.778). Patients taking NaP tended to have significantly better colonic segmental cleansing relative to stool amount observedin the descending (94.7% vs 70%, P = 0.007) andtransverse (94.6% vs 74.4%, P = 0.025) colon. Slightly more patients graded the taste of NaP as 'good' or 'very good' compared to the PEG patients (32.5% vs 12.5%;P = 0.059). Patients' willingness to take the same preparation in the future was 68.4% in the NaP compared to 75% in the PEG group (P = 0.617). There was a significant increase in serum sodium and a significant decrease in phosphate and chloride levels in NaP group on the day following the colonoscopy without any clinical sequelae. PECS: Towards Personalized Edge Caching for Future Service-Centric Networks

Mobile operators face the challenge of how to best design a service-centric network that can effectively process the rapidly increasing number of bandwidth-intensive user requests while providing a higher quality of experience(QoE). Existing content distribution networks(CDN) and mobile content distribution networks(mCDN) have both latency and throughput limitations due to being multiple network hops away from end-users. Here, we first propose a new Personalized Edge Caching System(PECS) architecture that employs big data analytics and mobile edge caching to provide personalized service access at the edge of the mobile network. Based on the proposed system architecture, the edge caching strategy based on user behavior and trajectory is analyzed. Employing our proposed PECS strategies, we use data mining algorithms to analyze the personalized trajectory and service usage patterns. Our findings provide guidance on how key technologies of PECS can be employed for current and future networks. Finally, we highlight the challenges associated with realizing such a system in 5G and beyond.

Oldhamite:a new link in upper mantle for C-O-S-Ca cycles and an indicator for planetary habitability

In the solar system,oldhamite(CaS) is generally considered to be formed by the condensation of solar nebula *** chondrites,one of the most important repositories of oldhamite,are believed to be representative of the material that formed ***,the formation mechanism and the evolution process of oldhamite are of great significance to the deep understanding of the solar nebula,meteorites,the origin of Earth,and the C-O-S-Ca cycles of *** now,oldhamite has not been reported to occur in mantle ***,here we show the formation of oldhamite through the reaction between sulfide-bearing orthopyroxenite and molten CaCO3at 1.5 GPa/1510 K,0.5 GPa/1320 K,and 0.3 GPa/1273 ***,this reaction occurs at oxygen fugacities within the range of upper-mantle conditions,six orders of magnitude higher than that of the solar nebula *** is easily oxidized to CaSO4or hydrolysed to produce calcium *** oxygen fugacity of magma,extremely low oxygen content of the atmosphere,and the lack of a large amount of liquid water on the celestial body’ s surface are necessary for the widespread existence of oldhamite on the surface of a celestial body otherwise,anhydrite or gypsum will exist in large *** may exist in the upper mantle beneath mid-ocean ***,oldhamites may have been a contributing factor to the early Earth’s atmospheric hypoxia environment,and the transient existence of oldhamites during the interaction between reducing sulfur-bearing magma and carbonate could have had an impact on the changes in atmospheric composition during the Permian-Triassic Boundary.

To determine the solubility of CO_(2)in n-dodecane at T=303.15-353.15 K,P≤11.00 MPa,an integrated fused silica capillary and in-situ Raman spectroscopy system was *** Raman peak intensity ratio(I_(CO_(2))/IC-H)between the upper band of CO_(2)Fermi diad(I_(CO_(2)))and the C-H stretching band of n-dodecane(IC-H)was employed to determine the solubility of CO_(2)in n-dodecane based on the calibrated correlation equation between the known CO_(2)molality in n-dodecane and the I_(CO_(2))/IC-Hratio with R^(2)=*** results indicated that the solubility of CO_(2)decreased with increasing temperature and increased with increasing *** maximum CO_(2)molality(30.7314 mol/kg)was obtained at 303.15 K and7.00 ***,a solubility prediction model(lnS=(P-A)/B)based on the relationship with temperature(T in K)and pressure(P in MPa)was developed,where S is CO_(2)molality,A=-8×10^(-6)T^(2)+0.0354T-8.1605,and B=*** results indicated that the solubilities of CO_(2)derived from this model were in good agreement with the experimental data.

AIM:To investigate the etiology of esophageal cancer among Taiwan Residents ***:This is a multi-center,hospital-based,case-control *** patients consisted of women who were newly diagnosed and pathology-proven to have esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) from three large medical centers(one from Northern and two from Southern Taiwan,respectively)between August 2000 and December *** ESCC patient was matched with 4 healthy women based on age(within 3 years)and hospital of origin,from the Department of Preventive Medicine in each hospital.A total of 51 case patients and 204 controls,all women,were ***:Frequencies of smokers and drinkers among ESCC patients were 19.6%and 21.6%,respectively,which were significantly higher than smokers(4.4%) and drinkers(4.4%)among controls(OR=4.07,95%CI:1.36-12.16,P=0.01;OR=3.55,95%CI:1.03-12.27,P=0.04).Women who drank an amount of alcohol more than 158 g per week had a 20.58-fold greater risk(95%CI:1.72-245.62,P=0.02)of ESCC than those who never drank alcohol after adjusting for other covariates,although the sample size was ***:Cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking,especially heavy drinking,are the major risks for developing ESCC in Taiwan Residents women.
