Direct observation of Pt nanocrystal coalescence induced by electron-excitation-enhanced van der Waals interactions

Nanocrystal coalescence has attracted paramount attention in nanostructure fabrication in the past decades. Tremendous endeavor and progress have been made in understanding its mechanisms, benefiting from the development of transmission electron microscopy. However, many mechanisms still remain unclear, especially for nanocrystals that lack a permanent dipole moment standing on a solid substrate. Here, we report an in situ coalescence of Pt nanocrystals on an amorphous carbon substrate induced by electron-excitation- enhanced van der Waals interactions studied by transmission electron microscopy and first principles calculations. It is found that the electron-beam-induced excitation can significantly enhance the van der Waals interaction between Pt nanocrystals and reduce the binding energy between Pt nanocrystals and the carbon substrate, both of which promote the coalescence. This work extends our understanding of the nanocrystal coalescence observed in a transmission electron microscope and sheds light on a potential pathway toward practical electron- beam-controlled nanofabrication.

A 79-year-old previously healthy man presented with acute acalculous cholecystitis with obstruction of the biliary tract. He was successfully treated with antibiotics and percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage, but returned to the hospital two days after discharge with a rare complication of this technique, biliopleural fistula. A thoracostomy tube was inserted to drain the pleural effusion, and the patient’s previous antibiotics reinstated. After two weeks of drainage and antibiotics, the fistula healed spontaneously without the need for further intervention.

Gold nanoparticles decorating the surface of multiwalled carbon nanotubes （MWCNTs） are prepared by photochemical reduction. The gold clusters form different interesting geometrical faceted shapes in accordance to time duration of synchrotron X-ray irradiation. The shape of nanogold could be spherical, rod-like, or triangular. Carbon nanotubes serve as optimal templates for the heterogeneous nucleation of gold nanocrystals. These nanocrystal structures are characterized by transmission electron microscope （TEM） and element analysis by energy dispersive spectroscopy （EDS）. 2007 Chinese Society of Particuology and Institute of Process Engineering,Chinese Academy of Sciences. Objective: This study evaluated the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment on postoperative pain in patients with degenerative lumbar spine disease, and explored the relationship between the postoperative analgesic effect of acupuncture and the sensation of acupuncture experienced by the ***: This retrospective study analyzed the medical records of 97 patients who had undergone an operation by the same surgeon due to degenerative lumbar disease. These patients were divided into acupuncture group(n = 32), patient-controlled analgesia(PCA) group(n = 27), and oral analgesia group(n = 38) according to the different postoperative analgesic methods. During their hospitalization, patients completed daily evaluations of their pain using a visual analogue scale(VAS), and injection times of supplemental meperidine were recorded. Also, the Chinese version of the Massachusetts General Hospital Acupuncture Sensation Scale(C-MASS) was used in the acupuncture ***: Each of the three treatment groups showed significant reductions in postoperative pain, as shown by reduced VAS scores. The acupuncture group, however, had less rebound pain(P < 0.05) than the other two groups. Both the acupuncture and PCA groups experienced acute analgesic effects that were superior to those in the oral analgesia group. In addition, the higher the C-MASS index on the second day after surgery, the lower the VAS score on the fourth day after surgery. There was also a significant difference in the“dull pain” in the acupuncture ***: The results demonstrated that acupuncture was beneficial for postoperative pain and discomfort after simple surgery for degenerative spinal disease. It is worth noting that there was a disproportionate relevance between the patient’s acupuncture sensation and the improvement of pain VAS score.

目的探讨女性更年期相关耳鸣可能的危险因素。方法收集2016年4月至10月于更年期综合管理门诊确诊为更年期综合征的59例女性患者的临床资料,根据耳鸣及更年期问卷调查分为耳鸣组和无耳鸣组,应用SPSS 19.0统计软件分析比较两组患者的年龄、体重指数(body mass index,BMI)、更年期Kupperman绝经指数(Kupperman menopausal index,KMI)、促卵泡生成素水平、更年期症状、耳鸣相关病史以及耳鸣可能的相关发病因素。结果59例更年期综合征患者中伴有耳鸣者22例,去除2例病因明确的甲状腺相关耳鸣,特发性耳鸣的发生比例为35.1%(20/57),其中17例纳入耳鸣组。37例患者无耳鸣症状,其中资料完整的26例纳入无耳鸣组。统计分析结果显示,两组患者头痛发生率差异有统计学意义(χ^(2)=9.098,P=0.003),其他指标差异均无统计学意义(P值均>0.05)。将失眠严重程度和耳鸣情况行进一步统计分析,两组间差别无统计学意义(χ^(2)=2.841,P=0.417)。结论头痛可能是更年期相关耳鸣发生的危险因素之一。

Aim: Sorafenib is a multi-tyrosine kinase inhibitor and the standard therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This retrospective study aimed to observe the anti-fibrotic effect of sorafenib in patients with advanced HCC. Methods: Seventeen patients with advanced HCC were recruited. Shear wave velocity (SWV) using acoustic radiation force impulse elastography and non-invasive serum markers for liver fibrosis, such as the aspartate aminotransferase (AST) to alanine aminotransferase ratio (AAR), the AST to platelet ratio index, the fibrosis-4 index and the Lok index, were recorded at the beginning of sorafenib treatment and 3-6 months after sorafenib treatment in 2014-2015. Results: Nine (52.9%) patients achieved disease control status and 8 had progressive disease after a mean duration of 11.1 months with sorafenib treatment. The mean SWV decreased from 2.37 m/s at the beginning to 1.90 m/s after sorafenib treatment (P < 0.01). This trend was observed in patients with and without liver cirrhosis (from 2.49 to 2.06 m/s, P = 0.06, and from 2.32 to 1.69 m/s, P < 0.05, respectively). Among the non-invasive serum markers, no statistically significant differences were observed except for the AAR in the cirrhotic group. Conclusion: Sorafenib has potential antif-ibrotic effects in patients with advanced HCC.

The effects of Nd addition on the mechanical properties and plastic deformability of AZ71 Mg alloys were investigated.0.5%-2.0%（mass fraction） Nd was added to AZ71 Mg *** grain size and the amount of brittle β-Mg17Al12 phase reduce with increasing the Nd addition,while nanosized AlxNdy precipitates *** combination with 32% rotary forging and subsequent annealing,the grain size of Nd-added AZ71 Mg alloys reduces greatly from over 350 μm to below 30 μ*** tensile strength and ductility increase with the Nd addition up to 1.0%.The addition of Nd beyond 1.0% leads to the aggregations of rod-shaped Al11Nd3 and blocky Al2 Nd precipitates,thereby deteriorating both strength and *** 1.0% Nd-added AZ71 Mg alloy shows tensile strength up to 253 MPa and elongation of 10.7%.It is concluded that adding 1.0% Nd to AZ71 Mg alloy yields the optimum toughness,whether under as-cast or rotary forging and annealing conditions.
