The present study considers wave scattering phenomena around a cylindrical island mounted on a general axisymmetric topography or a general submerged truncated axi-symmetric shoal based on the mild-slope equation. The method of separation of variables and Taylor series expansion are invoked to find the approximate solution to the variable water depth region which varies proportionally to an arbitrary power of radial distance. Validations against the solutions for the combined wave refraction and diffraction around a cylindrical island mounted on a paraboloidal shoal of Liu et al. in 2004 and the scattering and trapping of wave energy by a submerged truncated paraboloidal shoal of Lin and Liu in 2007 show excellent agreements as the power of radial distance being equal to two. For the solutions of wave refraction and diffraction around a cylindrical island mounted on a shoal with depth proportionally to an arbitrary power of radial distance, good agreements with Zhai et al.’s(2013) solutions are demonstrated. Since the robustness of the assumption of a general axi-symmetric geometry based on an arbitrary power variability of the radial distance, the present solution can be very conveniently employed to investigate the effects of bottom topography on wave scattering and trapping patterns.

In this study,the polynomial expansion method(PEM)and the polynomial method of particular solutions(PMPS)are applied to solve a class of linear elliptic partial differential equations(PDEs)in two dimensions with constant coefﬁ*** the solution procedure,the sought solution is approximated by the Pascal polynomials and their particular solutions for the PEM and PMPS,*** multiple-scale technique is applied to improve the conditioning of the resulted linear equations and the accuracy of numerical results for both of the PEM and *** mathematical statements are provided to demonstrate the equivalence of the PEM and PMPS bases as they are both bases of a certain polynomial vector ***,some numerical experiments were conducted to validate the implementation of the PEM and *** results demonstrated that the PEM is more accurate and well-conditioned than the PMPS and the multiple-scale technique is essential in these polynomial methods.

AIM： To investigate the intraocular retinal thickness asymmetry of peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer（pR NFL） and macular layers measured by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography（SD-OCT） in patients with early stage of primary open angle glaucoma（POAG） and normal tension glaucoma（NTG）.METHODS： A total of 117 patients with early stage of glaucoma（54 patients with POAG and 63 patients with NTG） and 32 normal subjects were recruited for the study. The pR NFL thickness, total macular layer（TML） thickness, and isolated inner macular layer（IML） thickness were measured by SD-OCT. Hemisphere TML thickness asymmetry measured by the posterior pole asymmetry scan was evaluated. Thickness differences of pR NFL and IML between superior and inferior quadrants were calculated. Asymmetry indices（AIs） of the p RNFL, TML and isolated IML were also computed. Areas under the receiver-operating characteristic curves（AROCs） were generated to determine the diagnostic capabilities of different parameters. RESULTS： Intraocular p RNFL thickness differences and AIs between the superior and inferior quadrants were significantly different between normal and NTG groups（P=0.009 and P〈0.001, respectively）. Intraocular p RNFL thickness differences and AIs between the temporal-superior and temporal-inferior sectors were also significantly different between normal and NTG groups（P=0.035 and P〈0.001, respectively）. The thickness differences and AIs of TML between superior and inferior hemispheres were significantly different between normal and NTG groups（P=0.001 and P=0.001, respectively） and between normal and POAG groups（P=0.032 and P=0.020, respectively）. The thickness differences and AIs of macular ganglion cell layer（mG CL） between superior and inferior quadrants were significantly different between normal and NTG groups（P=0.013 and P=0.004, respectively）, and between NTG and POAG groups（P=0.015 and P=0.012, respectively）. AIM:To assess the safety,yield and clinical utility of percutaneous transgastric computed tomography(CT)-guided biopsy of pancreatic tumor using large needles, in selected patients. METHODS:We reviewed 34 CT-guided biopsies in patients with pancreas mass,of whom 24(71%)had a direct path to the mass without passing through a major *** needle passed through the liver in one case(3%).Nine passes(26%)were made through the *** nine transgastric biopsies which used a coaxial technique(i.e.a 17-gauge coaxial introducer needle and an 18-gauge biopsy needle)were the basis of this *** and late follow-up CT images to detect complications were obtained. BACKGROUND There are difficulties in diagnosing nosocomial transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2) infection in hospital settings. However, evidence on risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 NIs among healthcare workers(HCWs) and caregivers is *** To assess NI incidence of SARS-CoV-2 among hospital staff, hospitalized patients, and caregivers, and the transmission routes of clusters of *** This descriptive retrospective analysis at our hospital from May 15 to August 15, 2021 included data on 132 SARS-CoV-2 NIs cases among hospital staff, inpatients, and caregivers who previously tested negative but subsequently identified with a positive SARS-CoV-2 reverse transcriptase-PCR(RT-PCR) test results, or a hospital staff who tested positive following routine SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test. Chi-square tests were performed to compare the differences between hospital staff and private caregivers, and between clusters and sporadic *** Overall, 9149 patients and 2005 hospital staff members underwent routine SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR testing, resulting in 12 confirmed cluster and 23 sporadic infections. BACKGROUND Approximately 20 percent of patients with a tumour localized in the low rectum still encounter the possibility of requiring permanent stoma(PS), which can cause drastic changes in lifestyle and physical *** To determine the risk factors for PS and to develop a prediction model to predict the probability of PS in rectal cancer patients after sphincter-saving *** A retrospective cohort of 421 rectal cancer patients who underwent radical surgery at Taipei Medical University Hospital between January 2012 and December 2020 was included in this study. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the independent risk factors for PS. A nomogram was developed according to the independent risk factors obtained in the multivariate analysis. The performance of the nomogram was assessed using a receiver operating characteristic curve and a calibration *** The PS rate after sphincter-saving surgery was 15.1%(59/391) in our study after a median follow-up of 47.3 mo(range 7–114 mo). Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that local recurrence, perirectal abscess, anastomosis site stenosis, perineural invasion, tumor size and operative time were independent risk factors for PS. These identified risk factors were incorporated into the nomogram, and the concordance index of this model was 0.903(95%CI: 0.851-0.955). According to the calibration curves, the nomogram represents a perfect prediction *** Several risk factors for PS after sphincter-saving surgery were identified. Our nomogram exhibited perfect predictive ability and will improve a physician’s ability to communicate the benefits and risks of various treatment options in shared decision making.
