Mammalian spermatozoa have relatively high water permeability and swell readily, as in the hypo-osmotic swelling test used in the andrology clinic. Physiologically, spermatozoa experience changes in the osmolality of the surrounding fluids in both the male and the female tracts on their journey from the testis to the ovum. Sperm volume regulation in response to such osmotic challenges is important to maintain a stable cell size for the normal shape and function of the sperm tail. Alongside ion channels for the fluxes of osmolytes, water channels would be crucial for sperm volume regulation. In contrast to the deep knowledge and numerous studies on somatic cell aquaporins （AQPs）, the understanding of sperm AQPs is limited. Among the 13 AQPs, convincing evidence for their presence in spermatozoa has been confined to AQP7, AQP8 and AQP 11. Overall, current findings indicate a major role of AQP8 in water influx and efltux for sperm volume regulation, which is required for natural fertilization. The preliminary data suggestive of a role for AQP7 in sperm glycerol metabolism needs further substantiation. The association of AQP 11 with the residual cytoplasm of elongated spermatids and the distal tail of spermatozoa supports the hypothesis of more than just a role in conferring water permeability and also in the turnover and recycling of surplus cellular components made redundant during spermiogenesis and spermiation. This would be crucial for the maintenance of a germinal epithelium functioning efficiently in the production of spermatozoa.

Surface mechanical attrition treatment(SMAT)method is an effective way to generate nanograined(NG)surface on Ti-25 Nb-3 Mo-2 Sn-3 Zr(wt.%)(named as TLM),a kind ofβ-type titanium alloy,and the achieved nanocrystalline surface was proved to promote positive functions of osteoblastic *** this work,to further endow the NG TLM alloy with both good osteogenic and antibacterial properties,magnesium(Mg),silver(Ag)ion or both were introduced onto the NG TLM surface by ion implantation process,as a comparison,the Mg and Ag ions were also co-implanted onto coarsegrained(CG)TLM *** obtained results show that subsequent ion implantation does not remarkably induce the surface roughness and topography alteration of the SMAT-treated layers,and it also has little impact on the microstructure of the SMAT-derivedβ-Ti *** addition,the implanted Mg and Ag ions are observed to exist as MgO and metallic Ag na noparticles(NPs)embedding tightly in theβ-Ti matrix with grain size of about 15 and 7 nm,*** cell adhesion and functions(including proliferation,osteo-differentiation and extracellular matrix mineralization)of rabbit bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(rBMMSCs)and the bacterial colonization of Staphylococcus aureus(***)on the different surfaces were *** in-vitro experimental results reveal that the Mg and Ag single-ion implanted NG surface either significantly promotes the rBMMSCs response or inhibits the growth ***,whereas the Mg/Ag coimplanted NG surface could concurrently enhance the rBMMSCs functions as well as inhibit the bacterial growth compared to the NG surface,and this efficacy is more pronounced as compared to the Mg/Ag co-implantation in the CG *** SMAT-achieved nanograins in the TLM surface layer are identified to not only play a leading role in determining the fate of rBMMSCs but also facilitate fabricating dualfunctio nal surface with both good osteogenic and antibacterial activities through co-imp

Intra- and Inter-Observer Reproducibility of Ultrasound Measurements of Pelvic Inlet Diameter in Pregnant Women

Objectives: To determine intra- and inter-observer reproducibility of the ultrasound measurement of pelvic inlet in the first trimester of pregnancy. Methods: Transabdominal pelvic ultrasound was performed to measure the pelvic inlet anteroposterior diameter using a 2D probe in twelve chinese women having a singleton pregnancy. Scans were performed in the first trimester by three sonographers. The pelvic inlet anteroposterior diameter was defined as the distance between the anterior surfaces of the sacral promontory and the superior medial border of the pubic bone most adjacent to the pubic symphysis. Intra-observer repeatability was determined and analysis of variance was performed to assess inter-observer measurements. The bias between any two sonographers’ measurements was assessed by calculating the 95% confidence interval for the mean difference between sonographers paired measurements. Results: Intra-observer reproducibility was 0.71 cm. Analysis of variance indicated that there was no significant difference between sonographers’ measurements (p = 0.46). The bias between two sonographers’ measurements ranged from 0.05 to 0.32 cm. Conclusion: It is technically feasible to measure the pelvic inlet diameter using ultrasound (USG) at the first trimester. High inter-observer reproducibility can be achieved. Further studies are required to establish the potential role of this technique and the measurement of the pelvic inlet diameter in prediction of labor outcome.

Objective:Knowledge about the impact of metabolic disturbances and parenteral nutrition(PN)characteristics on the survival of cancer patients receiving PN is *** aimed to assess the association between clinical and PN characteristics and survival in colorectal-cancer patients receiving PN ***:Our study included 572 consecutive colorectal-cancer patients who had received PN support between 2008 and *** characteristics,body mass index,weight,medical/surgical history,indication for PN,PN data and survival were *** between clinical and PN characteristics and survival were analysed with important confounding ***:The final cohort included 437 evaluable patients,with a mean age of 57 ***-one percent of the study population had advanced stage of colorectal *** weight(weight change≥2.5%)prior to PN initiation[hazard ratio(HR)=1.41,P=0.023]was adversely associated with survival after adjusting for multiple factors including cancer *** obstruction(HR=1.75,P=0.017)as a PN indication was associated with worse survival when compared with without bowel *** PN amino acid by ideal body weight(g•kg^(-1))(HR=0.59,P=0.029)was associated with longer survival,whereas a higher percentage of non-PN intravenous calories(HR=1.04,P=0.011)was associated with shorter survival independently of confounding ***:Body mass index and weight stability can be useful nutritional indices for survival prediction in cancer patients receiving *** planning should take into account of non-PN calories to achieve optimal energy support and *** research is needed to define optimal PN amino-acid requirement and energy balance.

Three-dimensional stability of landslides based on local safety factor

Unlike the limit equilibrium method(LEM), with which only the global safety factor of the landslide can be calculated, a local safety factor(LSF) method is proposed to evaluate the stability of different sections of a landslide in this paper. Based on three-dimensional(3D) numerical simulation results, the local safety factor is defined as the ratio of the shear strength of the soil at an element on the slip zone to the shear stress parallel to the sliding direction at that element. The global safety factor of the landslide is defined as the weighted average of all local safety factors based on the area of the slip surface. Some example analyses show that the results computed by the LSF method agree well with those calculated by the General Limit Equilibrium(GLE) method in two-dimensional(2D) models and the distribution of the LSF in the 3D slip zone is consistent with that indicated by the observed deformation pattern of an actual landslide in china.

Quality and readability of online information resources on insomnia

The internet is a major source for health information. An increasing number of people, including patients with insomnia, search for remedies online; however, little is known about the quality of such information. This study aimed to evaluate the quality and readability of insomnia-related online information. Google was used as the search engine, and the top websites on insomnia that met the inclusion criteria were evaluated for quality and readability. The analyzed websites belonged to nonprofit, commercial, or academic organizations and institutions such as hospitals and universities. Insomnia-related websites typically included definitions （85%）, causes and risk factors （100%）, symptoms （95%）, and treatment options （90%）. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia （CBT-I） was the most commonly recommended approach for insomnia treatment, and sleep drugs are frequently mentioned. The overall quality of the websites on insomnia is moderate, but all the content exceeded the recommended reading ease levels. Concerns that must be addressed to increase the quality and trustworthiness of online health information include sharing metadata, such as authorship, time of creation and last update, and conflicts of interest; providing evidence for reliability; and increasing the readability for a layman audience.

In recent years,binary image steganography has developed so rapidly that the research of binary image steganalysis becomes more important for information *** most state-of-the-art binary image steganographic schemes,they always find out the flippable pixels to minimize the embedding *** this reason,the stego images generated by the previous schemes maintain visual quality and it is hard for steganalyzer to capture the embedding trace in spacial ***,the distortion maps can be calculated for cover and stego images and the difference between them is *** this paper,a novel binary image steganalytic scheme is proposed,which is based on distortion level co-occurrence *** proposed scheme first generates the corresponding distortion maps for cover and stego *** the co-occurrence matrix is constructed on the distortion level maps to represent the features of cover and stego ***,support vector machine,based on the gaussian kernel,is used to classify the *** with the prior steganalytic methods,experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can effectively detect stego images.

Tetraphenylethylene(TPE)-conjugated porphyrin TPE-ZnPF is synthesized in high yield and characterized by single-crystal X-ray *** propeller-shaped TPE groups not only enable exceptional aggregation-induced emission(AIE)in the solid state but also abolish the strongπ-πstacking of porphyrin moieties and thus prohibit aggregation-caused quenching(ACQ).TPE-ZnPF aggregates feature longlived photoexcited states,which subsequently suppress non-radiative decay channels and enhance emission ***,its aggregates show more efficient lightharvesting ability due to the Förster resonance energy transfer from the TPE energy donor to the porphyrin core energy acceptor,well-defined nanosphere morphology,and more efficient photoinduced charge separation than the porphyrin Ph-ZnPF,which possesses ACQ and agglomerated *** a result,an excellent photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate(ηH_(2))of 56.20 mmol g^(‒1)h^(‒1)is recorded for TPE-ZnPF aggregates,which is 94-fold higher than that of the aggregates of Ph-ZnPF(0.60 mmol g^(‒1)h^(‒1))without the TPE groups.
