Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is characterized by a spectrum of hepatic diseases,including fatty liver,non-alcoholic steatohepatitis,cirrhosis,and hepatocellular *** is a hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome and has become the leading cause of liver transplantation,necessitating an in-depth understanding of its underlying pathogenic mechanisms and the identification of viable drug *** fatty liver is benign and does not exert marked liver damage or inflammation,NAFLD progression involves inflammatory processes facilitated by immune *** and monocytes constitute the pool of innate immune cells that contribute to NAFLD development in association with other cell types,such as neutrophils,T cells,and natural killer *** concept that macrophages contribute to the inflammatory processes in NAFLD development has long been debated;however,the remarkable advances in experimental techniques have rapidly uncovered new subpopulations of macrophages and monocytes,whose functions need to be comprehensively *** current review focuses on the recent expansion of our knowledge of the heterogeneous population of macrophages crucially involved in NAFLD *** addition,the present paper discusses ongoing efforts to target macrophages and inflammatory processes to develop optimal therapeutic agents against non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.

The exfoliation of bulk graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))into monolayer has been intensively studied to induce maximum sur-face area for fundamental studies,but ended in failure to realize chemi-cally and physically well-defined monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)mostly due to the difficulty in reducing the layer thickness down to an atomic *** has,therefore,remained as a challenging issue in two-dimensional(2D)chemistry and physics *** this study,an“atomic monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)with perfect two-dimensional limit”was successfully prepared by the chemically well-defined two-step *** atomically resolved monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)was also confirmed by spectroscopic and micro-scopic *** addition,the experimental Cs-HRTEM image was collected,for the first time,which was in excellent agreement with the theoretically simulated;the evidence of monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)in the perfect 2D limit becomes now clear from the HRTEM image of orderly hexagonal symmetry with a cavity formed by encirclement of three adjacent heptazine *** to bulk g-C_(3)N_(4),the present g-C_(3)N_(4)monolayer showed significantly higher photocatalytic gen-eration of H2O2 and H2,and electrocatalytic oxygen reduction *** addition,its photocatalytic efficiency for H2O2 production was found to be the best for any known g-C_(3)N_(4)nanomaterials,underscoring the remarkable advantage of monolayer formation in optimizing the catalyst performance of g-C_(3)N_(4).

Basalt fibers(BFs)have emerged as a promising thermal insulation material for various applications,such as fireproof clothes/walls and protective equipment in military and civil *** have many desirable characteristics,such as low thermal conductivity,excellent flame resistance,exceptional mechanical strength,facile manipulability,environmental friendliness,and ***,the low intrinsic interfacial properties of BFs due to their chemical inertness and macro-scaled sizes have been a challenge for high performance of BFs-reinforced polymeric composites(BFRPs).Since the mechanical properties of BFRPs significantly depend on the interfacial interaction between the fibers and the matrix,it is critical to understand how incorporating BFs influences the properties of the *** this end,the aim of this review is to report on recent research progress with emphasis on the interfacial behavior in *** relationships between the fiber–matrix interfacial adhesion and the mechanical properties of the BFRPs are briefly described with systematic and up-to-date surface modification techniques summarized into two categories:surface modifications(“wet”and“dry”)and multi-scaled ***,several strategies for increasing the interfacial adhesion of BFs within the polymeric matrix to provide new ideas and insight for future research on the BFRPs are discussed.

To the Editor： An 84-year-old male was referred from a local clinic for an incidental thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm （TAAA） presenting in a supraceliac aortic aneurysm （SCAA） with maximal diameter of 6.0 cm in spine magnetic resonance imaging. He had a medical history of hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and was a 30 pack-years＇ smoker. On physical exalnination, his vital signs were stable and abdomen was soft without pain and tenderness. Laboratory findings showed white blood cell count of 4840/μl, serum creatinine of 9 mg/L, erythrocyte sedimentation rate of 16 mm/h, and c-reactive protein of 13.24 mg/L.

The simultaneous measurement of the spatial profile and spectrum of laser-accelerated protons is important for further optimization of the beam qualities and *** report a detailed study regarding the underlying physics and regular procedure of such a measurement through the radioactivation of a stack composed of aluminum,copper,and CR-39 plates as well as radiochromic films(RCFs).After being radioactivated,the copper plates are placed on imaging plates(IPs)to detect the positrons emitted by the reaction products through contact *** spectrum and energy-dependent spatial profile of the protons are then obtained from the IPs and confirmed by the measured ones from the RCFs and CR-39 *** also discuss the detection range,influence of electrons,radiation safety,and spatial resolution of this ***,insights regarding the extension of the current method to online measurements and dynamic proton imaging are also provided.

Robotic versus laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: A propensity score-matched analysis

Background: Minimally invasive surgery is becoming increasingly popular in the field of pancreatic surgery. However, there are few studies of robotic distal pancreatectomy(RDP) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC). This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and feasibility of RDP for PDAC. Methods: Patients who underwent RDP or laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy(LDP) for PDAC between January 2015 and September 2020 were reviewed. Propensity score matching analyses were performed. Results: Of the 335 patients included in the study, 24 underwent RDP and 311 underwent LDP. A total of 21 RDP patients were matched 1:1 with LDP patients. RDP was associated with longer operative time(209.7 vs. 163.2 min;P = 0.003), lower open conversion rate(0% vs. 4.8%;P < 0.001), higher cost(15 722 vs. 12 699 dollars;P = 0.003), and a higher rate of achievement of an R0 resection margin(90.5% vs. 61.9%;P = 0.042). However, postoperative pancreatic fistula grade B or C showed no significant intergroup difference(9.5% vs. 9.5%). The median disease-free survival(34.5 vs. 17.3 months;P = 0.588) and overall survival(37.7 vs. 21.9 months;P = 0.171) were comparable between the groups. Conclusions: RDP is associated with longer operative time, a higher cost of surgery, and a higher likelihood of achieving R0 margins than LDP.

Associations between Wildfire Risk and Socio-Economic-Demographic Characteristics Using GIS Technology

Wildfire is a natural hazard caused mostly by the interaction of human systems and natural phenomena. This research aims to investigate how extreme wildfire events and disasters that occurred in California in the recent three decades are related to socio-economic-demographic characteristics at the levels of census tracts and counties. In addition, this research will use the data of historic wildfires to show counties and census tracts vulnerable to the natural hazard as well as the cyclical changes such as seasonal and annual fluctuations in the wildfire occurrences in the state. To decide how those variables correlate, this research used a Geographic Information System (GIS) designed to collect, analyze, query, and display geographical information. Two types of secondary data were used to conduct the research. One is the geospatial data showing each location of wildfires. The other is the data about such sociodemographic characteristics as race, ethnicity, level of education, and income, which can be collected through the Bureau of Census. In particular, the research employing GIS-based spatial analysis created maps that represent information on the geographic locations of the wildfires at the different geographic levels as well as demographic and socioeconomic factors influenced by the potential risk of wildfires. There are several researching findings. First, this research showed the wildfire-prone communities have comparatively higher level of representation for the populations such as the White and Native Americans. Second, it reveals that Asian people would prefer to reside in communities with a lower level of wildfire risk. In contrast with previous research reporting the Black, Hispanic or Native American people are more vulnerable to wildfire, this research showed only the census tracts with the higher number of the Native Americans are more exposed to the wildfire risk, compared with other census tracts.
