Clinical evaluation of prone position ventilation in the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome induced by sepsis

BACKGROUND Acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)is an acute,diffuse,inflammatory lung *** studies have shown prone position ventilation(PPV)to be associated with improvement in ***,its role in patients with ARDS caused by sepsis remains *** To analyze the clinical effects of PPV in patients with ARDS caused by *** One hundred and two patients with ARDS were identified and divided into a control group(n=55)and a PPV treatment group(n=47).Outcomes included oxygenation index,lung compliance(Cst)and platform pressure(Pplat),which were compared between the two groups after *** outcomes included heart rate(HR),mean arterial pressure(MAP),central venous pressure(CVP),left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),the length of mechanical ventilation time and intensive care unit(ICU)stay,and levels of C-reactive protein(CRP),procalcitonin(PCT),and interleukin-6(IL-6)after ***,mortality rate was also compared between the two *** On the first day after ventilation,the oxygenation index and Cst were higher and Pplat level was lower in the PPV group than in the conventional treatment group(P0.05).There were no significant differences in HR,MAP,CVP,LVEF,duration of mechanical ventilation and ICU stay,and the levels of CRP,PCT,and IL-6 between the two groups on the first day after ventilation(all P>0.05).The mortality rates on days 28 and 90 in the PPV and control groups were 12.77% and 29.09%,and 25.53% and 45.45%,respectively(P<0.05).CONCLUSION PPV may improve respiratory mechanics indices and may also have mortality benefit in patients with ARDS caused by ***,PPV was not shown to cause any adverse effects on hemodynamics and inflammation indices.

Toughening additive manufactured Zr-based bulk metallic glass composites by martensite phase transformation

Additive manufacturing technology based on laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)offers a novel approach for fabricating bulk metallic glass(BMG)products without restriction in size and ***,the BMGs prepared by LPBF usually suffered from less plasticity and poorer fracture toughness as compared to their cast counterparts due to partial crystallization in heat-affected zones(HAZs).Since crystallization in HAZs is hard to avoid completely in LPBF BMGs,it is desirable to design a suitable alloy system,in which only ductile crystalline phase,instead of brittle intermetallics,is formed in *** unique structure could effectively increase the toughness/plasticity of the LPBF *** achieve this goal,a quaternary BMG system with a composition of Zr_(47.5)Cu_(45.5)Al_(5)Co_(2)is adopted and subjected to *** is found that nearly a single phase of B_(2)-ZrCu is precipitated in HAZs,while a fully amorphous phase is formed in molten pools(MPs).This B_(2)phase reinforced BMG composite exhibits excellent mechanical properties with enhanced plasticity and ***,it is easy to modulate the mechanical properties by altering the amount of the B_(2)phase via adjusting the laser energy ***,the best combination of strength,plasticity,and notch toughness is obtained in the BMG composite containing 27.4%B_(2)phase and 72.6%amorphous phase,which exhibits yield strength(σ_(s))of 1423 MPa,plastic strain(ε_(p))of 4.65%,and notch toughness(K_(q))of 53.9 MPa m 1/***,a notable strain-hardening is also *** improvement of plasticity/toughness and appearance of strain-hardening behavior are mainly due to the martensite phase transformation from the B_(2)phase to the Cm phase during plastic deformation(i.e.,the phase transformation-induced plasticity effect).The current work provides a guide for making advanced BMGs and BMG composites by additive manufacturing.

Promoting electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction to ammonia via dopant boron on two-dimensional materials

Electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction(NRR) is a key process for producing energy efficient and environment friendly ammonia. Boron-doped two-dimensional materials are highly promising as NRR ***, the interaction between doped boron and matrix materials on NRR catalytic performance is still unclear,which is limiting the development of catalysts containing boron for NRR. Here, NRR on different boron-doped twodimensional(2D) materials was explored by first principle theory. It is found that adsorption energy of intermediate*NNH(E*NNH) can be used as a descriptor to characterize the catalytic activity for NRR. Boron-adsorbed black phosphorus(B-BP) is demonstrated showing excellent NRR catalytic activity and suppressing hydrogen evolution reaction. It is disclosed that the excellent catalytic performance of boron-doped structures comes from a proper quantitatively electron transfer(0.8e) between nitrogen in*NNH and the active site boron atom. This work not only established a descriptor for NRR catalytic activity on B-doped 2D materials, but also screened out a potential NRR catalyst. More importantly, the intrinsic reason and mechanism of high catalytic activity of boron-doped structures were proposed. This work provides a design principle for exploring high-performance NRR electrocatalysts containing boron.

Mitigating the negative catalytic effect of CuO by FAS-17 coated Al nanopowder:Isothermal ageing of Al/CuO nanothermite at 71°C and 60%relative humidity

In the research field of energy storage dielectrics,the“responsivity”parameter,defined as the recyclable/recoverable energy density per unit electric field,has become critically important for a comprehensive evaluation of the energy storage capability of a *** this work,high recyclable energy density and responsivity,i.e.,W_(rec)=161.1 J·cm^(-3) and ξ=373.8 J·(kV·m^(2))^(-1),have been simultaneously achieved in a prototype perovskite dielectric,BaTiO_(3),which is integrated on Si at 500℃ in the form of a submicron thick *** ferroelectric film features a multi-scale polar structure consisting of ferroelectric grains with different orientations and inner-grain ferroelastic domains.A LaNiO_(3) buffer layer is used to induce a{001}textured,columnar nanograin microstructure,while an elevated deposition temperature promotes lateral growth of the nanograins(in-plane diameter increases from~10-20 nm at lower temperatures to~30 nm).These preferably oriented and periodically regulated nanograins have resulted in a small remnant polarization and a delayed polarization saturation in the film’s P-E behavior,leading to a high recyclable energy ***,an improved polarizability/dielectric constant of the BaTiO_(3) film has produced a much larger maximum polarization than those deposited at lower temperatures at the same electric field,leading to a record-breaking responsivity for this simple perovskite.

Defect chemistry for extrinsic doping in ductile semiconductor α-Ag_(2)S

As a new type of inorganic ductile semiconductor,silver sulfide(α-Ag_(2)S)has garnered a plethora of interests in recent years due to its promising applications in flexible ***,the lack of detailed defect calculations and chemical intuition has largely hindered the optimization of material's *** this study,we systematically investigate the defect chemistry of extrinsic doping inα-Ag_(2)S using first-principles *** computationally examine a broad suite of 17 dopants and find that all aliovalent elements have extremely low doping limits(<0.002%)in α-Ag_(2)S,rendering them ineffective in tuning the electron *** contrast,the isovalent elements Se and Te have relatively high doping limits,being consistent with the experimental *** the dopant Se or Te itself does not provide additional electrons,its introduction has a significant impact on the band gap,the band-edge position,and especially the formation energy of Ag interstitials,which effectively improve the electron concentrations by 2–3 orders of *** size effects of Se and Te doping are responsible for the more favorable Ag interstitials in Ag_(2)S_(0.875)Se_(0.125) and Ag_(2)S_(0.875)Te_(0.125) with respect to pristine *** work serves as a theoretical foundation for the rational design of Ag_(2)S-based functional materials.

Effect of preload forces on multidimensional signal dynamic behaviours for battery early safety warning

Providing early safety warning for batteries in real-world applications is *** this study,comprehensive thermal abuse experiments are conducted to clarify the multidimensional signal evolution of battery failure under various preload *** time-sequence relationship among expansion force,voltage,and temperature during thermal abuse under five categorised stages is *** characteristic peaks are identified for the expansion force,which correspond to venting,internal short-circuiting,and thermal *** particular,an abnormal expansion force signal can be detected at temperatures as low as 42.4°C,followed by battery thermal runaway in approximately 6.5 ***,reducing the preload force can improve the effectiveness of the early-warning method via the expansion ***,reducing the preload force from 6000 to 1000 N prolongs the warning time(i.e.,227 to 398 s)before thermal runaway is *** on the results,a notable expansion force early-warning method is proposed that can successfully enable early safety warning approximately 375 s ahead of battery thermal runaway and effectively prevent failure propagation with module *** study provides a practical reference for the development of timely and accurate early-warning strategies as well as guidance for the design of safer battery systems.
