Simulating Carbon Sequestration and GHGs Emissions in Abies fabric Forest on the Gongga Mountains Using a Biogeochemical Process Model Forest-DNDC

The process-oriented model Forest-DNDC describing biogeochemical cycling of C and N and GHGs (greenhouse gases) fluxes (CO2, NO and N2O) in forest ecosystems was applied to simulate carbon sequestration and GHGs emissions in Abies fabric forest of the Gongga Mountains at southeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. The results indicated that the simulated gross primary production (GPP) of Abies fabric forest was strongly affected by temperature. The annual total GPP was 24,245.3.kg C ha-1 yr-1 for 2005 and 26,3.8.8 kg C ha-1 yr-1 for 2006, respectively. The annual total net primary production (NPP) was 5,93..5 and 4,882.2 kg C ha-1 yr-1 for 2005 and 2006, and the annual total net ecosystem production (NEP) was 4,815.4 and 3.512.8 kg C ha-1 yr-1 for 2005 and 2006, respectively. The simulated seasonal variation in CO2 emissions generally followed the seasonal variations in temperature and precipitation. The annual total CO2 emissions were 3.109.0 and 4,821.0 kg C ha-1 yr-1 for 2005 and 2006, the simulated annual total N2O emissions from forest soil were 1.47 and 1.3. kg N ha-1 yr-1 for 2005 and 2006, and the annual total NO emissions were 0.09 and 0.12 kg N ha-1 yr-1 for 2005 and 2006, respectively.

On May 12, 2008, an earthquake of 8.0 magnitude on the Richter scale and its numerous aftershocks devastatingly hit Wenchuan County and its nearby region along the Longman Mountains in Sichuan Province, china. The heavy ruined area was up to 3.,000 km2 and 13. of its land surface was denuded by the extremely terrible quakes. The mountain collapses, landslides and debris flows induced by the earthquake not only scared the landscape at the immense scale, but also poured 1.66-billion-m3.sediment combined with offscourings and rubble into the Yangtze River and its breaches. This amount of sediments is 3.times more than the normal amount discharged into the Yangtze River, and will significantly increase sediment transportation of rivers and decrease storage capacities of reservoirs downstream. The dramatic increase in sediment load will imperil the engineering safety and impact the operation of the giant Three-Gorge Hydro-power Station if no proper prevention measures are taken.

Based on biomass investigations, soil respiration an d plant photosynthesis measurement of dominant trees in Hailuogou valley o f Mt. Gongga, Southwest china, the carbon (C) storage, absorption and release for several typical woodlands in sub-alpine zones have been di scussed. For Abies fabri forest of 3.000 m above sea level, the C stor age amount is 177.4 t/ha for above-ground biomass and 143.2 t/ha for s oil below-ground biomass. The annual gross C fixed by vegetation photo synthesis is 20-24 t/ha. The C release by canopy respiration is 3.0-5.5 t/ha for arbors and 10-19 t/ha for surface soil and roots. The annual net C f ixed of forest ecosystem is about 6.0-7.1 t/ha. At lower elevations, t he amount of C released by woodlands is higher than that of woods a t higher elevations. The C fixed capacity of renewed forest with middle-aged t rees is higher than that of mature forest. Before becoming over-matured forest, woodland is an important sink of C whereas bareland in woods is the source of atmospheric C.

3. barrier lakes induced by earthquake have been formed by wedged debris on the river channels after a massive earthquake happening on May 12 in Sichuan, china. Among them, the Tangjiashan Barrier Lake is the largest one. It faces very urgent risk of dam breaking when water level reaches the top and begins overflow in case of storm rainfalls and continually aftershocks, threatening already devastated cities and villages with about 1.5 million people downstream. The outburst of a similar barrier lake occurred in the Minjiang River in 193., causing a catastrophic flood. Risk analysis indicates that not all barrier lakes are highly dangerous. Only those lakes with very high dams and water to be filled up in short period need to be dealt with immediately.

通过室内模型试验,对西藏波密米堆沟不同类型、不同规模的泥石流与主河不同频率洪水遭遇情况下,泥石流堵塞主河及溃决可能性,泥石流、洪水的危害模式进行了研究。米堆沟泥石流堵河模型试验结果表明,不同类型、规模泥石流进入主河与不同规模洪水遭遇,在交汇口表现出不同的堵溃特征;频率P=5%,重度12.74kN/m3.试验流量4.50l/s的水石流在主河仅暂时阻水,不会对主河产生堵塞和溃决;频率P=2%,重度14.70kN/m3.模型流量8.01l/s稀性泥石流会部份阻塞主河道,瞬间完全阻塞及溃决现象不会出现;频率P=1%,重度16.66kN/m3.模型流量10.21l/s泥石流,对主河造成较为严重阻塞,但不会造成瞬间完全堵塞和溃决。

A Soil Temperature Control System for Sapling Study in Alpine Region

A soil temperature control system was designed for sapling study in alpine region and tested in summer, 2009. The system consisted of a power switch, voltage regulator, microcomputer timer, safety relays, temperature control device, temperature sensors, heating cables, fireproofing plastic pipes (PVC), 108 heavy-duty plastic containers and seedlings. The heating cables were held in six 2-layer PVC frames with 25 cm wide, 3.0 cm long and 25 cm high and three 1-layer frames with 25 cm wide and 3.0 cm long for 15°C soil temperature treatment, half of the 2-layer frames were used for 20°C and 25°C soil temperature treatments, respectively. Each of the frames was installed at each of ditches with 3. cm wide, 3.0 cm long and 3. cm deep in size. 12 seedling containers with 20 cm top diameter, 18cm bottom diameter and 25 cm high were homogenously placed at each of the ditches, and spaces between the containers were filled with natural soil. The system was economic, and could increase soil temperatures obviously and uniformly, the maximal and minimal standard errors of soil temperatures were ±0.28 and ±0.05°C at 10cm depth in the containers within each of all the ditches. In the system, aboveground environment was natural, diurnal and monthly soil temperatures varied with changing air temperature, the research results may be better to know the eco-physiological and growth responses of alpine saplings/seedlings to soil warming than that in greenhouse, laboratory, infrared heat lamp and open top chamber.

对紫色土未培肥和培肥的不同土体,在小麦生育期内土壤养分和酶活性的动态测定结果表明:未培肥土体的全氮、有效磷、蔗糖酶、碱性磷酸酶有明显变化。尤其是砂土在改变为不同质地的土体后,上述土壤养分和酶活性都有所提高。培肥土体的土壤有机质、全氮、有效钾明显增加,土壤酶活性增强。砂土培肥的效果最显著。所以改变土体质地,并加以培肥,有助于提高土壤肥力,防治紫色土退化。

从森林水文作用看长江上游防护林工程
