The use of a biodegradable natural plant-based surfactant extracted from soapberry is proposed for the remediation of Ni, Cr and Mn from industrial soil site in Hai-Pu, taiwan. Batch experiments were performed under variation of fundamental factors （saponin concentration, pH, and incubation time） for metal remediation. Removal of Ni and Mn were increased with increasing saponin concentration （0.015-0.150 g/L）, whereas the removal of Cr was increased upto 0.075 g/L saponin. The Ni, Cr and Mn were removed significantly （p 〈 0.05） at near to the neutral and slightly acidic （pH 5 to 8） conditions. Removal efficiency of Ni （99%） from the soil was found to be greater than that of Cr （73%） or Mn （2.%） in the presence of saponin at a concentration of 0.150 g/L at pH 5. The removal percentage increased with incubation time where the removal of Ni was faster than that of Cr and Mn. The result indicates the feasibility of cco-friendly removal of heavy metal （Ni, Cr and Mn） from industrial soil by soil washing process in presence of plant derived saponin.

An oxygen isotope record of a stalagmite from Huanglong Cave in the eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau dated with 2.0Th and 2.0Pb methods provides variations of the Asian monsoon with an average resolu-tion of 1 year over the past 50 years. This study shows that the δ18O of dripwater in the cave represents the annual mean δ18O of local meteoric precipitation and the stalagmites were deposited in isotopic equilibrium. A comparison of the stalagmite δ18O record with instrumentally meteorological data indi-cates that shifts of the δ18O are largely controlled by the amount effect of meteoric precipitation con-veyed through the southwest monsoon(the Indian monsoon) and less affected by temperature. Therefore,the variations of δ18O record reflect the changes in monsoon precipitation on inter-annual time scales under the influence of the southwest monsoon. like many other stalagmite δ18O records in the Asian monsoon regions,the δ18O record of the stalagmite from Huanglong Cave also reveals a gradually enriched trend during the past 50 years,i.e. relatively enriched in 18O. This trend may indicate the decline of the Asian monsoon intensity which is consistent with the decrease of monsoon indices. The weakening of the modern Asian monsoon well matched with the temperature changes in strato-sphere,which may illustrate that the weakening of the monsoon mainly results from the lowering of solar radiation.

Here we use an analytical method to determine δ^13C in local plants and organic matter in the soils above Furong cave, Chong- qing, china. We also monitored d13C in dissolved inorganic carbon （DIC） of drip water, δ^13C of active deposits under the drip waters, and the concentration of air CO2.（PCO2.. Based on these, we preliminarily studied the transportation characteristics of stable carbon isotope （^13C） in cave system of the subtropical karst area. The average δ^13C value of 2. local plant samples, which belong to 16 families, was -32. and the weighted δ^13C for surface dry biomass was -33%0. We found that for 54 soil samples collected from 5 soil profiles, δ^13C of soil organic matters was -2.%o, which could be attributed to the different trans- portation rates of stable carbon isotopes during the decomposition of plants and organic matters in soils. The relatively lighter 12. tended to transfer into gaseous CO2. which made the relatively heavier ^13C concentrated in the soils. On the basis of moni- toring of DIC- δ^13C in drip waters from July 2.09 to June 2.1., we found that values in winter months were heavier and values in summer months were lighter in general, the reason of which was that in summer months, both the temperature and the hu- midity were comparatively higher, resulted in more CO2.with lighter δ^13C generated from organic matters decomposition and plants respiration. The average DIC- δ^13C value was -11%o, about 11%o heavier than the δ^13C of organic matters in soils, which proved that part of DIC in cave drip water was sourced from dissolution of inorganic carbonate （host rock, with heavier δ^13C. As for the δ^13C of active deposits at five drip water sites in Furong cave, they had almost the same variation with relatively light values. In other words, these active speleothems were deposited at equilibrium conditions for isotopic fractionation. The cored sediments sampled by R/V Marion Dufrense in the active margin off southwestern taiwan on the east side of the Manila Trench are mostly muds consisting mainly of quartz, feldspar, illite, chlorite ＋ kaolinite with a trace amount of montmorillonite. The cored sediments have higher Fe, Ti, Cr, Cs, li, Ni, and V but lower Ca, Na, Mn, Hf, Nb, Sr, ta, U and Zr contents when compared with the upper continental crust（UCC, taylor and McLennan, 1985）. The Eu/Eu＊ ratios of the sediments averaging 0.69 indicate that the recycling effect on the Eu anomaly may be minor and the contribution of mafic source rock was unimportant, which can also be depicted in the La-Th-Sc plot（Cullers, 1994） showing a ＂mixed origin＂ close to the felsic end member. The chemistry of the cored sediment can be explained by a mixing model designed by Ho and chen（1996） with four end members i.e., greywacke, shale, quartzite and limestone, which are widely distributed in the Cenozoic formations of southern taiwan with greywacke as the dominant contributor followed by shale.

Land use reflects human activities on *** land use is the highest level human alteration on earth,and it is rapidly changing due to population increase and *** areas have widespread effects on local hydrology,climate,biodiversity,and food production[1,2..However,maps,that contain knowledge on the distribution,pattern and composition of various land use types in urban areas,are limited to city *** mapping standard on data sources,methods,land use classification schemes varies from city to city,due to differences in financial input and skills of mapping *** address various national and global environmental challenges caused by urbanization,it is important to have urban land uses at the national and global scales that are derived from the same or consistent data sources with the same or compatible classification systems and mapping *** is because,only with urban land use maps produced with similar criteria,consistent environmental policies can be made,and action efforts can be compared and assessed for large scale environmental ***,despite of the fact that a number of urban-extent maps exist at global scales[3,4],more detailed urban land use maps do not exist at the same *** at big country or regional levels such as for the United States,china and European Union,consistent land use mapping efforts are rare[5,6](e.g.,https://***/open_land_use/).
