Identification and functional characterization of chemosensory genes in olfactory and taste organs of Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

The tobacco cutworm Spodoptera litura is one of the most destructive polyphagous crop *** and taste play a crucial role in its host plant selection and sexual communication,but the expression profile of chemosensory genes remains *** this study,we identified 185 chemosensory genes from 7 organs in *** by transcriptome sequencing,of which 72 genes were published for the first time,including 27 odorant receptors(ORs),26 gustatory receptors(GRs),1 ionotropic receptor(IR),16 odorant-binding proteins(OBPs),and 2 chemosensory proteins(CSPs).Phylogenetic analyses revealed that ORs,IRs,OBPs,and sensory neuron membrane proteins(SNMPs)were mainly expressed in antennae and sequence-conserved among Noctuidae *** most differentially expressed genes(DEGs)between sexes were ORs and OBPs,and no DEGs were found in *** transcripts were enriched in proboscis,and the expression of sugar receptors was the *** dioxide receptors,sugar receptor-SliuGR6,and bitter GRs-SlituGR43 and SlituGR66 had higher sequence identities between Noctuidae *** were broadly expressed in various organs,and SlituCSP13 was a DEG in adult *** functional analysis in the Drosophila OR67d expression system found that SlituOR50,a receptor highly expressed in female antennae,is selectively tuned to farnesyl *** results provide a solid foundation for understanding the molecular mechanisms by which chemosensory genes operate to elicit behavioral responses in polyphagous insects.

Highly Efficient Lattice Boltzmann Model for Compressible Fluids:Two-Dimensional Case

We present a highly efficient lattice Boltzmann model for simulating compressible flows. This model is based on the combination of an appropriate finite difference scheme, a 16-discrete-velocity model [Kataoka and Tsutahara, Phys. Rev. E 69 （2004） 035701（R）] and reasonable dispersion and dissipation terms. The dispersion term effectively reduces the oscillation at the discontinuity and enhances numerical precision. The dissipation term makes the new model more easily meet with the yon Neumann stability condition. This model works for both high-speed and low-speed flows with arbitrary specific-heat-ratio. With the new model simulation results for the well-known benchmark problems get a high accuracy compared with the analytic or experimental ones. The used benchmark tests include （i） Shock tubes such as the Sod, Lax, Sjogreen, Colella explosion wave, and collision of two strong shocks, （ii） Regular and Mach shock reflections, and （iii） Shock wave reaction on cylindrical bubble problems. With a more realistic equation of state or free-energy functional, the new model has the potential tostudy the complex procedure of shock wave reaction on porous materials.

Tryptophan synthase （TS, EC 4.***.1.20） catalyzes the last two steps of L-tryptophan biosynthesis. In pro-karyotes, tryptophan synthase is a multi-enzyme complex, and it consists ofαandβsubunit which forms anα-ββ-αcomplex. In fungi and diatoms, TS is a bifunctional enzyme. Because of the limited genomic and transcriptomic data of algae, there are few studies on TS evolution of algae. Here we analyzed the data of the 1000 Plants Project （1KP）, and focused on red algae and brown algae. We found out that the TS of Phaeophy-ceae were fusion genes, which probably originated from the secondary host nucleus, and that the TS of Rho-dophyta contained two genes, TSA and TSB, which both display a possible cyanobacterial origin at the time of primary endosymbiosis. In addition, there were two types of TSB genes （TSB1 and TSB2）. Through the multiple sequence alignment of TSB proteins, we found several residues conserved in TSB1 but variable in TSB2 which connect withαsubunit. The phenomenon may suggest that the TSB2 sequences of Rhodophyta cannot form stable complex with TSA.

Comparison of Cerebral Metabolism between Pig Ventricular Fibrillation and Asphyxial Cardiac Arrest Models

Background：Morbidity and mortality after resuscitation largely depend on the recovery of brain *** fibrillation cardiac arrest （VFCA） and asphyxial cardiac arrest （ACA） are the two most prevalent causes of sudden cardiac *** to now,most studies have focused on ***,results from the two models have been largely ***,it is necessary to characterize the features of postresuscitation cerebral metabolism of both ***：Forty-four Wuzhishan miniature inbred pigs were randomly divided into three groups：18 for VFCA group,ACA group,respectively,and other 8 for sham-operated group （SHAM）.VFCA was induced by programmed electric stimulation,andACA was induced by endotracheal tube *** 8 min without treatment,standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation （CPR） was *** neurological deficit scores （NDS） were evaluated at 24 h after achievement of spontaneous circulation,cerebral metabolism showed as the maximum standardized uptake value （SUVmax） was measured by 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed *** of serum markers of brain injury,neuron specific enolase （NSE）,and S100β were quantified with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent ***：Compared with VFCA group,fewer ACA animals achieved restoration of spontaneous circulation （61.1% vs.94.4%,P 〈 0.01） and survived 24-h after resuscitation （38.9% vs.77.8%,P 〈 0.01） with worse neurological outcome （NDS：244.3 ± 15.3 vs.168.8 ± 9.71,P 〈 0.01）.The CPR duration of ACA group was longer than that of VFCA group （8.1 ± 1.2 min vs.4.5 ± 1.1 min,P 〈 0.01）.Cerebral energy metabolism showed as SUVmax in ACA was lower than in VFCA （P 〈 0.05 or P 〈 0.01）.Higher serum biomarkers of brain damage （NSE,S100β） were found inACA than VFCA after resuscitation （P 〈 0.01）.Conclusions：Compared with VFCA,ACA causes more severe cerebral metabolism injuries with less successful resuscitation and worse neurological outcome.

Harvesting vibration energy by a triple-cantilever based triboelectric nanogenerator

Triboelectric nanogenerators （TENG）, a unique technology for harvesting ambient mechanical energy based on triboelectric effect, have been proven to be a cost-effective, simple and robust approach for self-powered systems. Here, we demonstrate a rationally designed triple-cantilever based TENG for harvesting vibration energy. With the assistance of nanowire arrays fabricated onto the surfaces of beryllium-copper alloy foils, the newly designed TENG produces an open-circuit voltage up to 101 V and a short-circuit current of 55.7 ~tA with a peak power density of 252.3 mW/m2. The TENG was systematically investigated and demonstrated as a direct power source for instantaneously lighting up 40 commercial light-emitting diodes. For the first time, a TENG device has been designed for harvesting vibration energy, especially at low frequencies, opening its application as a new energy technologv.

Comparison of the signaling pathways of wing dimorphism regulated by biotic and abiotic stress in the brown planthopper

Wing polymorphism is an evolutionary trait that is widely present in various insects and provides a model system for studying the evolutionary significance of insect *** brown planthopper(BPH,Nilaparvata lugens)can alter its wing morphs un-der biotic and abiotic ***,whether differential signaling pathways are induced by the 2 types of stress remain largely ***,we screened a number of candidate genes through weighted gene co-expression network analysis(WGCNA)and found that ornithine decarboxylase(NIODC),a key enzyme in the synthesis of polyamines,was as-sociated with wing differentiation in BPH and mainly responded to abiotic stress *** analyzed the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment pathways of dif-ferentially expressed genes under the 2 stresses by transcriptomic comparison,and found that biotic stress mainly influenced insulin-related signaling pathways while abiotic stress mainly influenced hormone-related ***,we found that insulin receptor 1(NllnRI)may regulate wing differentiation of BPH by responding to both biotic and abiotic stress,but NllnR2 only responded to biotic ***,the juvenile hormone epoxide hydrolase associated with juvenile hormone degradation and NIODC may regu-late wing differentiation mainly through abiotic stress.A model based on the genes and stresses to modulate the wing dimorphism of BPH was *** findings present a comprehensive molecular mechanism for wing polymorphism in BPH induced by biotic and abiotic stress.

Total knee arthroplasty （TKA） is an effective treatment for severe knee arthritis. However, TKA is more challenging when that arthritis is associated with femoral deformity that has resulted in irregularity of the canal and variation in anatomic landmarks. In such cases, it is difficult to restore the mechanical alignment of the lower limb using intramedullary instruments.

Time-resolved laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy of aluminum

We develop a system to measure the elemental composition of unprepared samples using laser-induced breakdown spec-troscopy (LIBS) in our laboratory,which can be used for the determination of elements in solids,liquids and aerosols. A description of the instrumentation,including laser,sample chamber and detection,is followed by a brief discussion. The time-resolved LIBS of aluminum at atmospheric pressure is presented. At the end,the possibilities and later uses of this technique are briefly discussed.

Cross-section measurement of(n,2n) reactions for Nd isotopes induced by 14 MeV neutrons

Cross-sections of the(n,2n) reactions for neodymium(Nd) isotopes induced by 14 MeV neutrons were measured in this work by using the activation and relative methods. The measured cross-sections of the ^(150)Nd(n,2n)^(149)Nd,^(148)Nd(n,2n)^(147)Nd, and ^(142)Nd(n,2 n)^(141)Nd reactions were 1854 ± 81, 1789 ± 119, and 1559 ± 98 mb, respectively, at a neutron energy of 14.2 ± 0.2 MeV,and 1485 ± 74, 1726 ± 85, and 1670 ± 119 mb, respectively, at 14.9 ± 0.2 MeV. The results were compared with the experimental values from the reported literature, with the evaluated data from the ENDF/B-VII.1, CENDL-3.1, and JENDL-4.0 libraries, and with the curves calculated by the Talys-1.8 code.
