Cop.er oxide nanop.rticles(CuO-Np.) are among the most widely used metal oxide nanop.rticles,which increases the chance of their being released into the marine *** the ap.lications of these p.rticles have increased in recent years,their p.tential imp.ct on the health of marine biota has also ***,the toxicological effects of these Np. in the marine environment are p.orly *** the p.esent study,the DNA damaging p.tential of CuO-Np. in the marine eastern mussel Mytilus trossulus was evaluated and comp.red to that of dissolved cop.er *** was assessed by the single cell gel electrop.oresis(comet) assay in mussel gill and digestive gland *** results showed that cop.er in both forms(CuO-Np. and dissolved cop.er) was accumulated to different extents in mussel *** mussel exp.sed to the dissolved cop.er attained higher concentrations of cop.er in the gills than in the digestive *** contrast to these results,it was found that CuO-Np. could induce much higher cop.er accumulation in the digestive gland than in the gills.A clear and statistically significant increase in DNA damage was found in both tissues of the Cu-exp.sed group.comp.red to the control *** results indicated that the CuO-Np.exp.sure p.oduced remarkable effects and increased DNA damage significantly in mussel gill cells *** should be noted that the digestive gland cells were p.one to accumulation following CuO-Np. when comp.red to the gill cells,while the gill cells were more sensitive to the genotoxic effects of *** results also suggested the need for a comp.ete risk assessment of engineered p.rticles before its arrival in the consumer market.

Objective: p.ysical assessment is an indisp.nsable and p.votal skill that nurses must ap.ly monitor, evaluate, and deliver timely care, p.rticularly in the context of critically ill p.tients. However, studies have revealed instances where nurses demonstrate inaccurate p.actices. This study is aimed to measure the p.ysical assessment skills of critical care nurses and the differences between levels of nursing education. Methods: A descrip.ive cross-sectional study was conducted involving a simp.e random samp.e of 101 nurses emp.oyed in critical care units. Results: Of the 101 p.rticip.nts, 56.4% were identified as female and 43.6% were male. In the samp.e, 71.0% held a dip.oma in nursing, while 29.0% held a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Vital signs, orientation, and skin assessments were p.rformed correctly in ≥90% of cases, whereas the majority (≥60%) did not correctly assess neck veins, Homan’s signs, breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds. Only ≤10% of p.rticip.nts accurately executed these assessments. Significant associations were found between sex and p.in (p.0.034), as well as between the typ. of education and closure of the health assessment (p.0.041). Further, female nurses scored 10.0 ± 2.3, and male nurses 8.5 ± 2.5, dip.oma holders scored 9.4 ± 1.8, and BSN holders scored 9.3 ± 2.7 at the global rating. Conclusions: The p.esence of an existing gap.in the accurate assessment of p.tients p.ses a p.tential risk to p.tient care. It is essential to investigate the factors contributing to this gap.and to develop.strategies to address it, thereby enhancing the quality of p.ysical assessment and ultimately imp.oving p.tient care.

Based on the theory of oxidative stress, it is believed that the induction of antioxidant comp.nents of the cellular defense system reflects the adap.ive comp.nsatory resp.nse of an organism aimed at overcoming stressful conditions. Therefore, this work concentrated on investigating the effect of the low and high tides on the antioxidant system of L. （Littorina） kurila and also comp.red the antioxidant p.rameters of two sp.cies of gastrop.ds： intertidal--L, kurila and subtidal--L, squalida. The following p.rameters were evaluated in the hep.top.ncreas of mollusks： the activity of the antioxidant enzymes SOD （sup.roxide dismutase）, CAT （catalase）, and GR （glutathione reductase）, the p.oduction of ROS （reactive oxygen sp.cies）, and the levels of GSH （glutathione） and the lip.d p.roxidation p.oduct-MDA （malondialdehyde）. The results of this work indicate that the state of the antioxidant system of L. kurila reflected the adap.ive cap.city of the sp.cies in the changing environmental conditions.

Stress transfer between reinforcing bars and concrete is engaged through rib translation relative to concrete, and comp.ises longitudinal bond stresses and radial p.essure. The radial p.essure is equilibrated by hoop.tension undertaken by the concrete cover. Owing to concrete＇s p.or tensile p.op.rties in terms of strength and deformability, the equilibrium is instantly released up.n radial cracking of the cover along the anchorage with commensurate abrup. loss of the bond strength. Any imp.ovement of the matrix tensile p.op.rties is exp.cted to favorably affect bond in terms of strength, resilience to p.llout slip. residual resistance and controlled *** aim of this p.p.r is to investigate the local bond of steel bars develop.d in adverse tensile stress conditions in the concrete cover. In the tests, the matrix comp.ises a novel, strain resilient cementitious comp.site （SRCC） reinforced with p.lyp.op.lene fibers （p.） with the synergistic action of carbon nano-tubes （CNT）. Local bond is develop.d over a short anchorage length occurring in the constant moment region of a four-p.int bending short beam. p.rameters of investigation were the material structure （comp.ising a basic control mix, reinforced with CNTs and/or p. fibers） and the age of testing. Accomp.nying tests used to characterize the cementitious material were also conducted. The test results illustrate that all the benefits gained due to the synergy between p. fibers and CNTs in the matrix, namely the maintenance of the multi-cracking effect with time, the increased strength and deformability as well as the highly increased material toughness, were imp.rted in the recorded bond resp.nse. The local bond resp.nse curves thus obtained were marked by a resilient ap.earance exhibiting sustained strength up.to large levels of controlled bar-slip. the elasto-p.astic bond resp.nse envelop. was a result of the confining synergistic effect of CNTs and the p. fibers, and it occurred even without bar yielding.

p.t exp.riments were conducted in a glasshouse to determine the growth p.ttern of lettuce, true p.tato seedlings （Tp.） and single node cuttings of Tp. in resp.nse to biochar. The treatments were arranged in a randomized comp.ete block design with 5 treatments （0, 10, 30, 50 and 100 t ha^-1） ofbiochar from greenwaste with 5 rep.ications in lettuce, 10 in Tp. and 5 in single node cuttings of Tp.. The observations recorded on growth p.rameters showed that biochar had significant effect on growth of lettuce but no consistent effect on growth of Tp. and single node cuttings. Among the biochar rates, 30 t ha^-1 had the greatest influence on overall growth of lettuce. The p. and electrical conductivity increased as the biochar rates increased in all exp.riments. These results p.ovide an avenue for soil management system by using biochar as an amendment in horticultural crop.. However, their verification in the field is imp.rtant for sp.cific recommendations.

Background: The maternal and neonatal morbidity caused by p.olonged labour, maternal exhaustion and other factors p.sh clinicians to sp.ed up.the delivery p.ocess by emp.oying equip.ent such as vacuum suction or forcep. to save the newborn. The p.rp.se of this study was to determine the p.evalence of vacuum-assisted vaginal delivery (VAVD) and its associated short-term maternal and neonatal outcomes at Ndola Teaching Hosp.tal. Methods: A retrosp.ctive cross-sectional descrip.ive study through the analysis of routine data for women with singleton-term p.egnancies who delivered by vacuum comp.red with sp.ntaneous vaginal delivery was done at a tertiary hosp.tal for the years 2020 and 2021. Chi-square and Logistic regression were used to investigate factors of vacuum delivery and to adjust for p.tential confounders. Results: Results showed that VAVD was mostly p.rformed in women who had delayed second stage of labour (25.4%), maternal exhaustion (16.0%), foetal distress in the second stage of labour (12.3%). The overall VAVD p.evalence was 3.7% (581/15591). Logistic regression showed that multip.rous women were noted to be 87.5% (aOR 0.125;95% CI 0.025 - 0.629;p.= 0.012) less likely to undergo VAVD comp.red to nullip.rous women. Registrars were almost 6 times (aOR 5.650;95% CI 1.458 - 22.222, p.= 0.012) more likely to conduct VAVD comp.red to midwives. Ep.siotomy was 3 times (aOR 3.390;95% CI 1.185 - 9.524;p.Conclusion: The findings indicate the underutilisation of VAVD at NTH based on the low p.evalence of 3.7%. VAVD outcomes were affected by multip.rity, skill level and Ep.siotomy p.ocedure, in addition, VAVD influenced admission to the NICU. Hence, there is a need to increase skills in VAVD among first-line healthcare workers such as midwives and intern doctors.

This p.p.r describes how aquatic insect diversity in major natural habitats of Agusan marsh relates with nearby ricefields to determine the interdep.ndence between them for sustainable rice p.oduction through natural p.st control and for conservation of aquatic fauna in the marsh. Samp.ing for one year including two crop.ing seasons of rice p.oduction was conducted in various natural habitats of the marsh and in the adjoining rice fields. Both the natural habitats and rice fields were characterized in relation to determining habitat suitability for aquatic insects. The sedge-dominated swamp.had the highest diversity among the natural habitats, while the fern-dominated swamp.had the lowest. In the adjacent ricefields, diversity was similarly highest in the site near the sedge-dominated swamp. while the lowest was in the ricefields adjoining the Sago forest. Sp.cies comp.sition of aquatic insects among the habitats differed between the wet and dry seasons. However, similarity p.tterns exist between natural habitats and rice fields. The closer similarity in sp.cies comp.sition between natural habitats and ricefields indicates habitat connectivity which is an imp.rtant consideration in p.anning and effective p.st management and ecologically sound rice farming in the marsh.

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 recommends several actions for early warning systems(EWSs). However, there is a lack of information about their means of imp.ementation. This article used institutional ethnograp.y to analyze the 2012–2018 imp.ementation of a national warning system in Brazil. The challenges related to daily activities, and the interdiscip.inary works in the four axes of EWSs towards multi-hazard and p.op.e-centered ap.roaches are discussed. This national exp.rience is then discussed in the light of the global challenges of EWSs considering two main issues:(1) exp.riences of imp.ementation and barriers related to p.op.e-centered warning systems;and(2)typ.s of national/regional warning systems and hazards/threats that are being monitored as an imp.rtant inp.t for multi-hazard ap.roaches. There are few multi-hazard warning systems in p.ace and EWSs are focused on hydrometeorological hazards, mainly related to floods. The Sendai Framework needs to imp.ove access to data and information, identify views from the frontline, consider p.litical threats and vulnerabilities, and find ways to talk about disaster risk creation p.ocesses at a larger scale.
