Transport sector is cited among the key emitted *** Burkina Faso,road transport occupies more than 60%of the emissions of the entire transport ***,there is no model equation for greenhouse gases modelling in transport sector.A methodology combining literature review and survey has been adopted to develop the simplified model equation in transport *** vehicle type survey allowed the identification of the type of vehicle and the literature review allowed the identification of the key parameters used for greenhouses gases *** results revealed 10 vehicle types for road transport in Burkina Faso such as:Private cars,Public Transport/Buses,Special Vehicle(Ambulances,Fire bus,Funeral vehicles),other vehicle,Motorcycles,Wheeler,Rail,Van,Lorries and Truck *** keys parameters for greenhouse gases modelling are Fleet availability,Average annual distance travelled,Fuel Economy and Fuel emission *** all vehicle type identified simplified model equation was developed to support Burkina Faso,assessing greenhouse gases emission in the sector of *** approach could be replicated in other countries in the sub-Saharan Region.

Prolactin Adenomas in Senegal: Epidemiological, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects of 89 Cases

Introduction: In Senegal, there is very little data on prolactinomas despite their negative impact on couples fertility. Patients and methods: This was a multicentre, retrospective, descriptive, analytical study conducted from 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2022 in the neurosurgery departments of the Fann and Principal hospitals and the endocrinology department of the Abass Ndao Hospital. Results: We included 89 patients, representing a prevalence of 36.7% among all cases of pituitary adenoma. The mean age was 35.6 ± 10 years and the sex ratio was 0.34. The mean time to consultation was 27.1 ± 29 months. Clinical symptoms were dominated by gonadotropic disorders represented by galactorrhoea (71 cases, 79.8%), amenorrhoea (61 cases, 68.5%), and infertility in the couple (31 cases, 34.8%). Fifty-seven (58) patients presented with a tumour syndrome (65.2%, including 57 cases of headache (64%), 34 cases of visual disorders (38.2%) and 8 patients with a dysmorphic syndrome (8.9%). Imaging revealed a macroadenoma in 68.5% (61 cases) and extension of the adenoma in 11 patients (12.4%). The hormonal profile was isolated lactotropic hypersecretion (80 cases, 89.9%) and mixed in 9 cases (including concomitant secretion of GH in 8 cases and ACTH in 1 case). All patients had initially benefited? from dopaminergic agonist-based medical treatment. Pituitary surgery was effective in 45 patients (50.6%), including 44 cases by transsphenoidal approach. Postoperative incidents included transient diabetes insipidus (77.7%) and cerebrospinal fluid leakage (20%). Context: Breast cancer affects more than 2 million women a year worldwide. Improved treatments have made it possible to increase survival rates with more and more patients having time to develop secondary locations. Nasosinus metastases from this cancer are rare. Two recently treated breast cancer patients developed metastases to the sphenoidal and maxillary sinuses. These cases gave rise to an examination of the incidence of this disease, its diagnosis, the therapeutic means envisaged and the fate of these patients. Method: We report the diagnostic and therapeutic data of two patients suffering from breast cancer and presenting metastases at the nasosinus level, with a focus on the interest of radiotherapy in palliative care. Results: The two patients aged 56 and 60 presented in the course of their breast cancer secondary localizations in the sphenoidal and maxillary sinus confirmed by endoscopy and histology. All the cases presented massive lesions associated with other secondary bone locations in particular. After local radiotherapy and systemic chemotherapy treatment, one patient died 5 months after her diagnosis and the other was alive 16 months later. Conclusion: Nasal and sinus metastases from breast cancer are rare and have a poor prognosis as disseminated disease, they do not respond well to conventional systemic therapies even if palliative radiotherapy allows local control.

Profile of Female Hyperandrogenism at the Medical Clinic II: About 19 Cases

Introduction: Female hyperandrogenism is essentially manifested by hirsutism. It is present in Senegal but not yet elucidated for lack of data. This is why we proposed to study the profile of hyperandrogenism in our context. Patients and Methods: This was an observational, cross-sectional cohort study of 19 patients of reproductive age followed for hyperandrogenism at the Medical Clinic II of Abass Ndao Hospital, from November 1st, 2019 to August 31st, 2021. Results: Our cohort consisted of women with an average age of 25.3 years, single (73.7%), with a low socioeconomic level (42.1%). A family history of hirsutism was found in 31.6% of cases. The main reasons for consultation were a menstrual cycle disorder in 94.7% of cases, and hirsutism in 78.9% of cases. The latter was post-pubertal (66.7%), with a slow or progressive evolution. The physical examination revealed: hirsutism (100%) with an average modified Ferriman Gallwey score (mFG) of 8.9 ± 5.8, acne (36.8%), hyperseborrhea (57.9%), major signs of virilization (10.5%), acanthosis nigricans (47.4%) and galactorrhea (5.3%). Hormonal explorations revealed an elevation of: testosterone (31.6%), 17-hydroxyprogesterone (5.3%), dihydrotestosterone (31.6%), and prolactin (10.5%). The ovarian morphology was micropolycystic (84.2%). The etiological profile corresponded to polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS (68.4%), ovarian hyperthecosis (10.5%), hyperprolactinemia (10.5%), congenital adrenal hyperplasia or CAH (5.3%). Idiopathic hirsutism was found in 5.3% of cases. Conclusion: Female hyperandrogenism is a less frequent reason for consultation in endocrinology. It deserves to be further evaluated in a large-scale study focused on epidemiological, clinico-biological and etiological investigation, in order to assess its prevalence and better define its profile in our context.

The small size of agricultural plots is the main difficulty for crops mapping with remote sensing data in the Sahelian region of Africa. The study aims to combine Sentinel-1 (radar) and Sentinel-2 (Optic) data to discriminate millet, maize and peanut crops. Training plots were used in order to analyse temporal variation of the three crops’ signals. The NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) was able to differentiate crops only at the end of the rainy season (October). The optical data as well as the radar ones could not easily discriminate the three crops during the growing season, because in that period vegetation cover is low, and soil contribution to the signals (due to roughness and moisture) was more important than that of real vegetation. However, the ratio of VH/VV (VH: incident signal in vertical polarization and reflected signal in horizontal polarization;VV: incident signal in vertical polarization and reflected signal in horizontal polarization) gave a difference between millet and the two other crops at the beginning cultural season (July 11). Difference appears from the second third of September when the harvest of cereals crops (millet and maize) began. From middle of October, the peanut signal dropped sharply thus facilitating the differentiation of peanut from the two other crops. This analysis led to the identification of data that have could be used to discriminate these crops (useful data). Classification of the combined useful data gave an overall high accuracy of 82%, with 96%, 61% and 65% for peanut, maize and millet, respectively. The non-agricultural areas (water, natural vegetation, habit, bare soil) were well classified with an accuracy greater than 90%.

Introduction: A higher risk of death is associated with wasting in children if it is not treated properly. The objective of this study was to investigate the ionic disorders observed in infants suffering from severe wasting at Yalgado Ouedraogo Teaching Hospital (YO-TH) and at Charles de Gaulle Pediatric Teaching Hospital (CDG-PTH) in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). Methods: This was a retrospective study with a descriptive and analytical aim over the period from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2020. Results: It concerned infants aged 6 to 24 months hospitalized at YO-TH and at CDG-PTH from Ouagadougou. We included 271 infants. The mean age of the infants was 14.48 ± 5.44 months with 42.07% which was in the age range of [12 - 18] months. On admission to the hospital, the children had an average weight, height and BMI of 6.22 ± 1.32 kg, 0.73 ± 0.07 m and 11.67 ± 1.53 kg/m2. In urban areas 56.46% of children and the main reasons for consultation were fever (88.19%), vomiting (52.80%) and diarrhea (50.20%). Electrolyte disturbances in emaciated infants affected all 8 parameters of the blood ionogram. However, the major disorders were 65.68% hyponatremia, 55.35% hypobicarbonatemia, 41.33% hypoprotidemia and 32.47% hypokalemia in infants aged 6 to 24 months. We found an association between diarrhea and residence with hypokalemia (p = 0.0000) and hypochloremia (p = 0.010), respectively. Conclusion: Severe acute wasting in infants 6 to 24 months of age remains a concern in the hospital setting. The frequency of biochemical disturbances is also high.

Radiotherapy of Oligoprogressive Lesions in Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer: Impact on Second-Generation Hormone Therapy

Background: The therapeutic standard for oligoprogressive prostate cancer resistant to castration is second-generation hormone therapy. This systemic treatment is expensive. There are oligoprogressive lesions accessible to radiotherapy. Objectives: To study the impact of radiotherapy of oligoprogressive lesions on the implementation of second generation hormone therapy. Patients and Methods: A retrospective study from 2012 to 2020 was carried out. All patients with oligoprogressive prostate cancer who had received radiotherapy on one or more lesions in progression were collated. Survival was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: 8 patients were treated with stereotactic and conformational radiotherapy between August 2012 and August 2020 in the context of oligoprogressive prostate cancer resistant to castration. The median age at diagnosis of oligoprogression was 73 years with a median PSA level of 3.11 ng/ml. Nine lesions were diagnosed with PET scan PSMA. All the lesions were treated by radiotherapy with different regimens. After a median follow-up of 12.5 months, 7 patients showed a biochemical response to treatment with a median decrease in PSA of 67%. The median survival without clinical or biochemical progression was 7 months. The median survival without the need for further systemic treatment was 9 months. Objectives: To evaluate the prognosis of obstetric complications by parity in a suburban center in Dakar. Patients and Method: We conducted a retrospective and prospective, cross-sectional study that evaluated all women admitted to the Philippe Maguilen Senghor Health Center for the management of their pregnancy (childbirth, abortion, ectopic pregnancy), whether they were primiparous or multiparous. The data for this study covered a 66-month period, from January 1, 2012 to June 30, 2017. Data were entered into our E-perinatal computer database. They were then extracted and analyzed first on Microsoft Excel 2016 and then on SPSS 24, Windows version. Results: Between January 2012 and June 2017, we’ve registered 27,441 patients including 25,905 deliveries, 1415 abortions and 121 ectopic pregnancies. Direct obstetric complications involved 14.1% of our patients. 12.1% multiparous and 17.3% primiparous had at least one direct obstetric complication of World Health Organization (WHO). Antepartum haemorrhage, uterine rupture, ectopic pregnancy, and abortion complications were more common in multipara, whereas prolonged and obstructed labor, preeclampsia, and eclampsia were more common in primiparous women. Postpartum haemorrhage occurred at substantially equal frequencies in both parity groups. We had not found any case of sepsis. Conclusion: Our study confirms that primiparity is a factor that may lead to obstetric complications. However, while some complications were more common in the primiparous, others were exclusive to multiparous when we did not expect it. We also recommend continuing this work by singling out multiparas and large multiparas, in order to better understand the obstetric prognosis linked to parity.

Objective: Describe the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic and evolutionary profile of triple negative breast cancer at the Dakar Cancer Institute in Senegal. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective study between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2014. All patients with a triple negative molecular profile were included. The data were collected from the medical records of the patients. The data were entered and analyzed with SPSS edition 16 software under Windows 7. Results: Two hundred and twenty-five patients were selected. The mean age was 47.9 ± 12.5 years with extremes of 25 and 90 years. The main reason for consultation was dominated by the finding of a breast lump. The mean clinical tumor size was 8, 54 cm with a large majority of T3-T4 tumors 26% and 63% respectively, lymph node involvement in one hundred and seventy-two cases (76.4%);twenty eight patients (12.4%) were metastatic from the outset. Non-specific invasive carcinoma was the most common histologic type (78.2%), and more than half of the patients (53.3%) had an aggressive tumor (Scarff-Bloom-Richardson grading III). Neoadjuvant chemotherapy was performed in 65.78% of cases. We noted 27.7% total response and 41.7% partial response in patients who have received this neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The surgery was radic
