Dear Editor,In the European region,which shares 22.8%of the global cancer burden for 10%of the global population,there were around 4.4 million new cancer cases and 1.9 million deaths from cancer in 2020[1].The reasons for the high cancer incidence rates are complex;however,diet and dietary components are among the main contributors to cancer risk[2].In modern-day living,a growing proportion of people include in their diets ultra-processed *** of food processing and home-prepared foods are so-called dietary advanced glycation endproducts(AGEs),which are reactive metabolites emerging during the breakdown of reducing *** production is preponderant in dry high-heat processes(e.g.,baking,roasting);hence foods such as cakes,crisps,crackers,cereal products,meat and meat-derived products represent a major source of dietary AGEs[3].

AIM To prospectively evaluate the performance of Dopplerultrasonography(US) for the detection of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS) dysfunction within a multicenter cohort of cirrhotic *** This study was conducted in 10 french teaching hospitals. After TIPS insertion, angiography and liver Doppler-US were carried out every six months to detect dysfunction(defined by a portosystemic gradient ≥ 12 mm Hg and/or a stent stenosis ≥ 50%). The association between ultrasonographic signs and dysfunction was studied by logistic random-effects models, and the diagnostic performance of each Doppler criterion was estimated by the bootstrap method. This study was approved by the ethics committee of *** Two hundred and eighteen pairs of examinations performed on 87 cirrhotic patients were analyzed. Variables significantly associated with dysfunction were: The speed of flow in the portal vein(P = 0.008), the reversal of flow in the right(P = 0.038) and left(P = 0.049) portal branch, the loss of modulation of portal flow by the right atrium(P = 0.0005), ascites(P = 0.001) and the overall impression of the operator(P = 0.0001). The diagnostic performances of these variables were low; sensitivity was led out from Doppler-US. CONCLUSION The performance of Doppler-US for the detection of TIPS dysfunction is poor compared to angiography. New tools are needed to improve diagnosis of TIPS dysfunction.

Introduction: In the absence of health coverage in resource limited-settings, life-saving pediatric emergencies remain a challenge. The objective of our study was to describe the epidemiological profile of life-threatening pediatric emergencies at Laquintinie Hospital in Douala (HLD). Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out for a period of 3 months, from March to May 2017 in the pediatric emergency unit of HLD enrolling all children presenting a life-threatening emergency on admission. Local emergency kits and an internal deferred cost recovery voucher or “green voucher” were used to facilitate access to care for children on admission. The socio-demographic, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary characteristics were collected and analyzed using SPSS software version 20.0. Considerations when using the activPAL monitor in field-based research with adult populations

Research indicates that high levels of sedentary behavior(sitting or lying with low energy expenditure) are adversely associated with health. A key factor in improving our understanding of the impact of sedentary behavior(and patterns of sedentary time accumulation) on health is the use of objective measurement tools that collect date and time-stamped activity information. One such tool is the activP AL monitor. This thigh-worn device uses accelerometer-derived information about thigh position to determine the start and end of each period spent sitting/lying, standing, and stepping, as well as stepping speed, step counts, and postural transitions. The activP AL is increasingly being used within field-based research for its ability to measure sitting/lying via posture. We summarise key issues to consider when using the activP AL in physical activity and sedentary behavior field-based research with adult populations. It is intended that the findings and discussion points be informative for researchers who are currently using activP AL monitors or are intending to use them. Pre-data collection decisions, monitor preparation and distribution, data collection considerations, and manual and automated data processing possibilities are presented using examples from current literature and experiences from 2 research groups from the UK and Australia.
