Fungal Leaching of Heavy Metals from Sediments Dredged from the Deûle Canal, France

Filamentous fungi were used to leach heavy metals from dredged sediments in semi-pilot scale air-lift bioreactors. Prior to the bioleaching experiments, a physico-chemical characterization of the sediments comprising a sequential extraction study was conducted. The sediments turned out to highly contaminated with heavy metals. Most of the studied metals were found to be strongly linked to the matrix because of their association with the sulphides and with the organic matter. The conditions that favored the solubilization of heavy metals by the filamentous fungi turned out to be favorable for the activity of the sediments organotrophic bacterial microflora as well. The latter played a key role in the biosolubilization process by producing organic acids under temporary anoxic conditions. Better solubilization results (Mn: 77%, Zn: 44%, Cu: 12%, Cd and Pb: <2%) were thus obtained in the uninoculated sugar treatment in comparison to the fungal treatment. In general, organotrophic leaching was found to be limited by the poor nature of the organic acids and by their microbial consumption under sugar limited conditions. It was therefore restrained to the relatively mobile metals, namely those linked to the acid-soluble and reducible fractions of the sediments.

Introduction: Microbiology of effusion fluids in children in Burkina Faso is characterized by the scarcity of data. This work aimed to study the bacteriological and antibiotics susceptibility profile of bacteria involved in effusion fluid infections in paediatrics in order to improve the choice of probabilistic antibiotics therapy. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was used in children aged 0 to 15 years from 2017 to 2020 at the charles De Gaulle Pediatric University Hospital Center (CHUP-CDG) in Ouagadougou. Classical bacteriology methods such as macroscopy, Gram staining, identification galleries and antibiotics susceptibility testing were used. Results: Of 231 samples, 64 bacteria were isolated. The most common bacterial strains of pleural fluid were Staphylococcus aureus (25%) and 40% for Enterobacteriaceae. Of the peritoneal fluid, 77% were Enterobacteriaceae with 57% Escherichia coli;and from joint fluid, 33% were S. aureus and 22% for P. aeruginosa. The overall susceptibility profile showed 29% extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL), 10% methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), and 8% carbapenemases. Conclusion: Bacteriological profile is characterized by ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae and MRSA. The most active antibiotics were macrolides, aminoglycosides, and cefoxitin (methicillin) for Gram-positive cocci, carbapenems, and aminoglycosides for Gram-negative bacilli. Then, the monitoring of antibiotics resistance must be permanent.

The Cardinality Constraint-Based Optimization problem is investigated in this note. In portfolio optimization problem, the cardinality constraint allows one to invest in assets out of a universe of N assets for a prespecified value of K. It is generally agreed that choosing a “small” value of K forces the implementation of diversification in small portfolios. However, the question of how small must be K has remained unanswered. In the present work, using a comparative approach we show computationally that optimal portfolio selection with a relatively small or large number of assets, K, may produce similar results with differentiated reliabilities.

AIM: To determine the presence of Helicobacter species DNA in the liver of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients with and without cirrhosis as compared to controls, and to identify the bacterial species involved. METHODS: Seventy-nine consecutive patients (HBV and HIV negative) with a liver sample obtained after liver biopsy or hepatic resection were studied: 41 with CHC without cirrhosis, 12 with CHC and cirrhosis, and 26 controls (HCV negative). Polymerase chain reactions (PCRs) targeting Helicobacter 16S rDNA and species- specific were performed on DNA extracted from the liver. A gastric infection with H pylori was determined by serology and confirmed by 13C-urea breath test. RESULTS: Overall, Helicobacter 16S rDNA was found in 16 patients (20.2%). Although positive cases tended to be higher in CHC patients with cirrhosis (41.6%) than in those without cirrhosis (17.0%) or in controls (15.4%), the difference was not statistically significant (P =0.08). H pylori-like DNA was identified in 12 cases and H. pullorum DNA in 2, while 2 cases remained unidenti- fied. Gastric infection with H pylori was found in only 2 of these patients. CONCLUSION: Our results do not confirm the associ- ation of Helicobacter species DNA in the liver of CHC patients with advanced liver disease. The lack of correlation between positive H pylori serology and the presence of H pylori-like DNA in the liver may indicate the presence of a variant of this species.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in December 2019 in China,various measures have been adopted in order to attenuate the impact of the virus on the *** regard to spine surgery,French physicians are devoted to take place in the national plan against COVID-19,the French Spine Surgery Society therefore decided to elaborate specific guidelines for management of spinal disorders during COVID-19 pandemic in order to prioritize management of patients.A three levels stratification was elaborated with Level I:Urgent surgical indications,Level II:Surgical indications associated to a potential loss of chance for the patient and Level III:Non-urgent surgical *** also report French experience in a COVID-19 cluster region illustrated by two clinical *** hope that the guidelines formulated by the French Spine Surgery Society and the experience of spine surgeons from a cluster region will be helpful in order optimizing the management of patients with urgent spinal conditions during the pandemic.

A dielectric transmittance filter composed of subwavelength grating sandwiched between two few-layers distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) is proposed with the aim of being compatible with CMOS technology and to be tunable by lithographic means of the grating pattern without the need of thickness changes, in the broad spirit of metamaterials. The DBR mirrors form a Fabry-Perot (FP) cavity whose resonant frequency can be tuned by changing the effective refractive index of the cavity, here, by tailoring the in-plane filling factor of the grating. The structure has been studied and designed by performing numerical simulations using Fourier Modal Method (FMM). This filter proves to have high broad angular tolerance up to ±30˚. This feature is crucial for evaluating the spectral performance of narrow-band filters especially the so-called Ambient light sensors (ALS). By analyzing the transmittance spectral distributions in the band diagram, it is found that the angular tolerance is due to coupling between the FP and the guided mode inside the cavity in analogy to resonances occurring within multimode periodic waveguides in a different context.

Burkitt＇s lymphoma is a highly aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma, often presenting in extra-nodal sites. It generally has a poor spontaneous outcome and needs aggressive treatment with systemic and intrathecal chemotherapy. Occurrence at the gastric site is rare. We report the case of a 39-year old woman who presented with a prominent ulcerated lesion of the antrum corresponding histologically to a Burkitt＇s lymphoma associated with He/icobacter py/ori （H pylori） infection. Interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization （FISH） demonstrated c-MYC gene rearrangement in tumour cells without BCL2 or BCL6 gene translocations. Ulcer healing and tumour regression with a complete histological response were obtained 8 wk after Hpylori eradication. In spite of this complete remission, taking into account the high risk of recurrence, the patient received systemic and intrathecal chemotherapy. Two years later, the patient remained in complete remission. This is the first report of a gastric Burkitt＇s lymphoma responding to Hpylori eradication. These findings raise the question of the potential role of H pylori in the pathogenesis of some gastric Burkitt＇s lymphomas, and show the importance of searching for and eradicating the bacteria in combination with conventional chemotherapy regimens.

从毛竹笋中提取出清蛋白、球蛋白、醇溶蛋白和碱溶蛋白等4种蛋白,均含有8种人体必需的氨基酸。4种蛋白的功能性质的研究结果表明,疏水性:醇溶蛋白>碱溶蛋白>球蛋白>清蛋白;在中性条件下,清蛋白的水溶性最好;清蛋白和球蛋白吸水性好,分别达到4.2和5.0 mL·g-1,清蛋白和醇溶蛋白吸油性最强,分别达到3.6和3.2 mL·g-1;清蛋白,球蛋白,醇溶蛋白和碱溶蛋白的乳化性分别为35.8%、29.2%、22.1%和14.2%,乳化稳定性均超65.1%;清蛋白的起泡性达到67.7%(稳定性为48.6%)。因此,这4种蛋白在食品工业领域具有潜在的应用价值。

分析单一组件的历时可用度行为,探讨对数常态分布可靠度(中位数tmed以及误差因子EF)和指数分布维修度(平均维修时间MTTR)对其可用度的影响,得出数值分析结果:在固定稳态可用度ASS以及平均维修时间MTTR的情况下,中位数tmed越小(或是误差因子EF越大)的组件历时可用度越早单调下降且下降量越大,越晚回弹至其稳态可用度;在固定稳态可用度ASS以及误差因子EF的情况下,具有越大平均维修时间MTTR的组件历时可用度越晚单调下降但下降量不变,也越晚回弹至其稳态可用度。建立不断电系统可用度以及可靠度的分析模式,探讨正常供电、电池备援以及旁通供电3种不同模式对整体可用度以及可靠度的贡献程度,得出数值分析结果:正常供电模式贡献了绝大部分的整体不断电可用度;不考虑维修作业能力,整体不断电系统的可靠度参数MTTF为1184301h。
