Selective reduction of NO by.photo-SCR with ammonia in an annular fixed-film photoreactor

Gaseous NO was photocataly.ically.reduced at room temperature by.photo-assisted selective cataly.ic reduction （photo-SCR） with ammonia over TiO2 in this study. NO reduction efficiency.and N2 selectivity.were determined from gases composition at the outlet stream of photoreactor. effect of operating conditions, e.g. light intensity.and inlet concentrations of ammonia and oxy.en, on the NO reduction efficiency.and N2 selectivity.were discussed to determine the feasible operating condition for photocataly.ic reduction of NO. experimental results showed that selective cataly.ic reduction of NO with ammonia over TiO2 in the presence of oxy.en was a spontaneous reaction in dark. The photoirradiation on the TiO2 surface caused remarkable photocataly.ic reduction of NO to form N2, NO2, and N20 under 254 nm UV illuminations, while almost 90% of N2 selectivity.was achieved in this study. The ammonia and oxy.en molecules play.d the roles of reductant and oxidant for NO reduction and active sites regeneration, respectively. The reduction of NO was found to be increased with the increase of inlet ammonia and oxy.en concentrations until specific concentrations because of the limited active sites on the surface of TiO2. The kinetic model proposed in this study.can be used to reasonably.describe the reaction mechanism of photo-SCR.

Accommodating the bacterial decoding release factor as an alien protein among the RNAs at the active site of the ribosome

The decoding release factor (RF) triggers termination of protein sy.thesis by.functionally.mimicking a tRNA to spanthe decoding centre and the peptidy. transferase centre (PTC) of the ribosome. Structurally. it must fit into a site craftedfor a tRNA and surrounded by.five other RNAs, namely.the adjacent peptidy. tRNA carry.ng the completed poly.eptide,the mRNA and the three rRNAs. This is achieved by.extending a structural domain from the body.of the protein thatresults in a critical conformational change allowing it to contact the PTC. A structural model of the bacterial terminationcomplex with the accommodated RF shows that it makes close contact with the first, second and third bases of the stopcodon in the mRNA with two separate loops of structure: the anticodon loop and the loop at the tip of helix α5. Theanticodon loop also makes contact with the base following the stop codon that is known to strongly.influence termina-tion efficiency. It confirms the close contact of domain 3 of the protein with the key.RNA structures of the PTC. ThemRNA signal for termination includes sequences upstream as well as downstream of the stop codon, and this may.reflectstructural restrictions for specific combinations of tRNA and RF to be bound onto the ribosome together. An unbiasedSeLeX approach has been investigated as a tool to identify.potential rRNA-binding contacts of the bacterial RF in itsdifferent binding conformations within the active centre of the ribosome.

Public and policy.makers alike are concerned about national and global deforestation and forest degradation. These issues pose a significant threat to social, economic and environmental *** to prevent forest loss and increased attention to pilot ReDD+ projects in community.forestry.sites would both deliver rural livelihood benefits and help to reduce adverse climate ***, there has been no significant exploration of the viewpoints of local experts to determine the monitoring and action needed to support community.ased forestry.and improve the governance of ReDD+pilot projects in Cambodia. Therefore, this study.aimed to assess the perceptions of local stakeholders towards the quality.of governance of the first community.forest ReDD+ pilot project in Cambodia,employ.ng Q-methodology. We adapted 11 indicators of the hierarchical framework of assessment of governance quality.to design 40 Q-statements related to ReDD+ governance or achievements. The 52 P-set ranked these Q-statements with respect to the community.based ReDD+ pilot project. Our study.revealed that local stakeholders held four distinct, and partially.opposite, views, that:(1) the ReDD+ project is successful because it is inclusiveness and capable of causing behavioral change;(2) ReDD+ pilot projects should be led by.government, not external or locally.and needs more resources;(3) the ReDD+ pilot project has raised unrealistic expectations, would likely.be a source of corruption and will probably.not be successful for local people or halting deforestation;and(4) the ReDD+ pilot project is inclusive but not very.transparent and probably.ineffective at protecting forest. Through these four varied perspectives from local people involved in the project,we can see that there remain serious challenges to the future of pilot community.forestry.ReDD+ projects,including the complex interaction between the multinational actors and the local socio-ecological *** move forwards, this study

Development of genome engineering technologies in cattle: from random to specific

The production of transgenic farm animals(e.g., cattle) via genome engineering for the gain or loss of gene functions is an important undertaking. In the initial stages of genome engineering, DNA micro-injection into one-cell stage embry.s(zy.otes) followed by.embry. transfer into a recipient was performed because of the ease of the ***, as this approach resulted in severe mosaicism and has a low efficiency. it is not ty.ically.employ.d in the cattle as priority. unlike in mice. To overcome the above issue with micro-injection in cattle, somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT) was introduced and successfully.used to produce cloned livestock. The application of SCNT for the production of transgenic livestock represents a significant advancement, but its development speed is relatively.slow because of abnormal reprogramming and low gene targeting efficiency. Recent genome editing technologies(e.g.,ZFN, TALeN, and CRISPR-Cas9) have been rapidly.adapted for applications in cattle and great results have been achieved in several fields such as disease models and bioreactors. In the future, genome engineering technologies wil accelerate our understanding of genetic traits in bovine and wil be readily.adapted for bio-medical applications in cattle.

Although bone defects can be restored spontaneously.bone reconstruction with sufficient strength and volume continues to be a challenge in clinical *** recent y.ars,the use of a variety.of biomaterials with bioactivity.has been attempted to compensate for this ***,we fabricated a pDNA(encoding for BMP-2)-loaded asy.metrically.porous poly.aprolactone(PCL)/Pluronic F127 membrane as a bioactive guided bone regeneration(GBR)membrane,using a modified immersion-precipitation *** was observed that the GBR membrane allows continuous release of pDNA for more than20 *** pDNA was sufficiently.transfected into human bone marrow stem cells(h BMSCs)without significant cy.otoxicity.and the gene-transfected cells showed prolonged sy.thesis of *** in vitro osteogenic differentiation and in vivo animal studies,the effective induction of osteogenic differentiation of h BMSCs and enhanced bone regeneration by.the pDNA-loaded asy.metrically.porous PCL/Pluronic F127 membrane was observed,suggesting that the pDNA-loaded membrane as a bioactive GBR membrane can be an alternative therapeutic technique for effective bone regeneration.

Hepatic abscess associated with Salmonella seroty.e B in a chronic alcoholic patient

BACKGROUND: Hepatic abscess secondary.to Salmonella is extremely.rare in the United States and other Western countries. MeTHODS: A 43-y.ar-old Caucasian man, with a history.of chronic alcohol abuse, was admitted to the hospital for intermittent abdominal pain, fever and diarrhea. Clinical radiological and laboratory.results were analy.ed. Medical literature in PubMed pertaining to similar cases was reviewed. ReSULTS: Stool culture was positive for Salmonella seroty.e B and a CT scan of the abdomen with contrast was consistent with a solitary.hepatic abscess. Appropriate intravenous antibiotics followed by.oral maintenance therapy.for six weeks resulted in a complete clinical recovery.and radiographic resolution. CONCLUSIONS: The cause of Salmonella hepatic abscess in our patient was most likely.associated with decreased mucosal resistance to the bacteria, seeding of infection via transient portal bacteremia and loss of host immunity. Our case highlights the fact that appropriate antibiotic alone is sufficient in the management of a solitary.hepatic abscess less than 3-5 cm.

Background： The potential for acid-detergent insoluble ash （ADIA）, alkaline-peroxide lignin （APL）, and acid-detergent lignin （ADL） to predict fecal output （FO） and dry.matter digestibility.（DMD） by.cattle offered bermudagrass [Cy.odon docty.on （L） Pers.] hay. of different qualities was evaluated. eight ruminally.cannulated cows （594 ± 35.5 kg） were allocated randomly.to 4 hay.diets： low （L）, medium low （ML）, medium high （MH）, and high （H） crude protein （CP） concentration （79, 111,131, and 164 g CP/kg on a DM basis, respectively.. Diets were offered in 3 periods with 2 diet replicates per period and were rotated across cows between periods. Cows were individually.fed 20 g DM/kg of body.weight in equal feedings at 08：00 and 16：00 h for a 10-d adaptation followed by.a 5-d total fecal collection. Actual DM intake （DMI）, DMD, and FO were determined based on hay.offered, ort, and feces excreted. These components were then analy.ed for ADL, APL, and ADIA concentration to determine marker recovery.and marker-based estimates of FO and DMD. Results： Forage DMI was affected by.diet （P = 0.02）, and DMI from MH and H was greater （P 〈 0.05） than from L. Apparent DMD tended （P = 0.08） to differ among diets while FO （P = 0.20） was not affected by.diet treatments. Average ADL recovery.（1.16） was greater （P 〈 0.05） than that of ADIA （1.03） and APL （1.06）, but ADIA and APL did not differ （P = 0.42）. estimates of FO and DMD derived using APL and ADIA were not different （P≥0.05） from total fecal collection while those using ADL differed （P 〈 0.05）. There was no diet by.marker interaction （P≥ 0.22） for either FO or DMD. Conclusion： Acid-detergent insoluble ash and APL accurately.predicted FO and DMD of cattle fed bermudagrass hay.of vary.ng nutrient composition. These internal markers may.facilitate studies involving large numbers of animals and forages.
