Background: The effects of maternal phenylalanine on the fetus include facial dysmorphism, microcephaly, intrauterine growth retardation, developmental delay, and congenital heart disease. Aims: To evaluate the impact of phenylalanine restricted diet in pregnant women with phenylketonuria (pKU) on their offspring. Methods: Data on virtually all pregnancies of women with pKU in the United Kingdom between 1978 and 1997 were reported to the United Kingdom pKU Registry. The effect of the use and timing in relation to pregnancy of a phenylalanine restricted diet on birth weight, birth head circumference, the presence or absence of congenital heart disease (CHD), 4 year developmental quotient, and 8 year intelligence quotient were examined. Results: A total of 228 pregnancies resulted in live births (seven twin pregnancies were excluded). In 110 (50% ), diet started before conception. For this group mean (SD) birth weight was 3160 (612) g, birth head circumference 33.6 (1.9) cm, 4 year DQ 108.9 (13.2), 8 year IQ 103.4 (15.6), and incidence of CHD was 2.4% . In comparison, for those born where treatment was started during pregnancy (n=91), birth weight was 2818 (711) g, birth head circumference 32.7 (2.0) cm, 4 year DQ 96.8 (15.0), 8 year IQ 86.5 (13.0), and incidence of CHD was 17% . Month-by-month regression analyses suggested that metabolic control by 12-16 weeks gestation had most influence on outcome. Conclusions: Many features of the maternal pKU syndrome are preventable by starting a phenylalanine restricted diet. Women with pKU and their carers must be aware of the risks and should start the diet before conception, or as soon after as possible.

Aim: To determine the predictive value of the 2 week post-selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) intraocular pressure (IOp) by comparing it to the 4 week and 3 month values. Methods: A retrospective chart review of eyes that underwent SLT between 2001 and 2004 was performed. The primary outcome measure was IOp. Demographic and medical data were collected for correlational analysis. Results: 132 eyes of 95 patients were identified, none was excluded. Of the eyes that exhibited a decrease in IOp of >1 mm Hg at 2 weeks postoperatively, 99.24%continued to show a lowered IOp at the 4 week and 3 month visits. For these patients, the pearson's r value between 2 weeks and 4 weeks was 0.708 (p value=0.01) while the r value between 2 weeks and 3 months was 0.513 (p value=0.01). Conclusions: The 2 week visit post-SLT predicted the 4 week and 3 month visits if the 2 week visit demonstrated a decrease in IOp. These findings suggest that those patients who had a decreased IOp at 2 weeks and are at their goal IOp may not need to be screened until 3 months postoperatively.

A first search for the Ξ_(bc)^(+)J/ψΞ_(c)^(+) decay is performed by the LHCb experiment with a data sample of proton-proton collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1 recorded at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. Two peaking structures are seen with a local (global) significance of 4.3(2.8) and 4.1(2.4) standard deviations at masses of 6571 and 6694 MeV/c2, respectively. Upper limits are set on the Ξ+bc baryon production cross-section times the branching fraction relative to that of the B+c→J/ψD+s decay at centre-of-mass energies of 8 and 13 TeV, in the Ξ+bc and in the B+c rapidity and transverse-momentum ranges from 2.0 to 4.5 and 0 to 20GeV/c, respectively. Upper limits are presented as a function of the Ξ+bc mass and lifetime.

Objective: To assess the efficacy of 5%imiquimod cream on undifferentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN), a disease caused by high-risk human papillomavirus. Design: prospective, uncontrolled study. Setting: University hospital vulvar clinic. patients: Twelve consecutive patients treated with 5%imiquimod cream for undifferentiated VIN between March 1, 1999, and May 31, 2001. Intervention: Self-application of 5%imiquimod cream, initially 3 times a week, then adjusted according to tolerance, for up to 7 months according to clinical response. Main Outcome Measures: Therapeutic response, clinically assessed by successive photographs and histologically confirmed for complete responders, was scored as complete, partial (≥50%decrease in lesion size), or failure. Tolerance was evaluated at each visit. Results: A total of 3, 4, and 5 patients achieved complete response, partial response (≥75%reduction in lesion size for all such cases), and failure, respectively. Mean duration of treatment was 3.6 months (37.3 applications), 5.0 months (50.7 applications), and 3.4 months (25.2 applications) for complete responders, partial responders, and failures, respectively. Follow-up after treatment was 5 to 18, 14 to 32, and 2 to 28 months, respectively, with 1 partial responder lost to long-term follow-up. No patient developed invasive carcinoma. All but 2 patients experienced vulvar discomfort, resulting in treatment withdrawal for 3. Two patients had flulike symptoms. Conclusions: Imiquimod cream could be a therapeutic option for undifferentiated VIN. Although poorly tolerated, this self-applied treatment could spare patients, either totally or partially, the classic painful and sometimesmutilating treatments of VIN. Controlled, randomized studies are needed to evaluate its efficacy and tolerance.

Background and objectives:Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a pandemic that has become a major source of morbidity and mortality worldwide,affecting the physical and mental health of individuals influencing *** the threat,it poses to maternal health in sub-Saharan Africa and Nigeria,there is little or no data on the impact it has on fertility,conception,gestation and *** compare the birth rate between pre-COVID and COVID times using selected months of the *** and methods:This was a secondary analysis of cross-sectional analytical study data from the birth registries of three tertiary hospitals,comparing two years[2019(pre-COVID)]versus[2020(COVID era)]using three months of the year(October to December).The data relied upon was obtained from birth registries in three busy maternity clinics all within tertiary hospitals in South-East Nigeria and we aimed at discussing the potential impacts of COVID-19 on fertility in *** secondary outcome measures were;mode of delivery,booking status of the participants,maternal age and ***:There was a significant decrease in tertiary-hospital based birth rate by 92 births(p=0.0009;95%CI:-16.0519 to-4.1481)among mothers in all the three hospitals in 2020 during the COVID period(post lockdown months)of October to *** was a significant difference in the mode of delivery for mothers(p=0.0096)with a 95%confidence interval of 1.0664 to 1.5916,as more gave birth through vaginal delivery during the 2020 COVID-19 period than ***:Tertiary-hospital based birth rates were reduced during the *** multi-centre study extrapolated on possible factors that may have played a role in this decline in their birth rate,which includes but is not limited to;decreased access to hospital care due to the total lockdowns/curfews and worsening inflation and economic recession in the country.

The Circular Electron positron Collider(CEpC)is a large scientific project initiated and hosted by China,fostered through extensive collaboration with international *** complex comprises four accelerators:a 30 GeV Linac,a 1.1 GeV Damping Ring,a Booster capable of achieving energies up to 180 GeV,and a Collider operating at varying energy modes(Z,W,H,and tt).The Linac and Damping Ring are situated on the surface,while the subterranean Booster and Collider are housed in a 100 km circumference underground tunnel,strategically accommodating future expansion with provisions for a potential Super proton proton Collider(SppC).The CEpC primarily serves as a Higgs *** its baseline design with synchrotron radiation(SR)power of 30 MW per beam,it can achieve a luminosity of 5×10^(34)cm^(-2)s^(-1)per interaction point(Ip),resulting in an integrated luminosity of 13 ab^(-1)for two Ips over a decade,producing 2.6 million Higgs *** the SR power to 50 MW per beam expands the CEpC's capability to generate 4.3 million Higgs bosons,facilitating precise measurements of Higgs coupling at sub-percent levels,exceeding the precision expected from the HL-LHC by an order of *** Technical Design Report(TDR)follows the preliminary Conceptual Design Report(pre-CDR,2015)and the Conceptual Design Report(CDR,2018),comprehensively detailing the machine's layout,performance metrics,physical design and analysis,technical systems design,R&D and prototyping efforts,and associated civil engineering ***,it includes a cost estimate and a preliminary construction timeline,establishing a framework for forthcoming engineering design phase and site selection *** is anticipated to begin around 2027-2028,pending government approval,with an estimated duration of 8 *** commencement of experiments and data collection could potentially be initiated in the mid-2030s.
