Free vibration and buckling analysis of polymeric composite beams reinforced by functionally graded bamboo fbers

Natural fibers h.ve been extensively research.d as reinforcement materials in polymers on account of th.ir environmental and economic advantages in comparison with.synth.tic fibers in th. recent years.Bamboo fibers are renowned for th.ir good mech.nical properties,abundance,and sh.rt cycle growth.As beams are one of th. fundamental structural components and are susceptible to mech.nical loads in engineering applications,th.s paper performs a study on th. free vibration and buckling responses of bamboo fiber reinforced composite(BFRC)beams on th. elastic foundation.Th.ee different functionally graded(FG)layouts and a uniform one are th. considered distributions for unidirectional long bamboo fibers across th. th.ckness.Th. elastic properties of th. composite are determined with.th. law of mixture.Employing h.milton’s principle,th. governing equations of motion are obtained.Th. generalized differential quadrature meth.d(GDQm)is th.n applied to th. equations to obtain th. results.Th. ach.eved outcomes exh.bit th.t th. natural frequency and buckling load values vary as th. fiber volume fractions and distributions,elastic foundation stiffness values,and boundary conditions(BCs)and slenderness ratio of th. beam ch.nge.Furth.rmore,a comparative study is conducted between th. derived analysis outcomes for BFRC and h.mogenous polymer beams to examine th. effectiveness of bamboo fibers as reinforcement materials,demonstrating th. significant enh.ncements in both.vibration and buckling responses,with.th. exception of natural frequencies for cantilever beams on th. Pasternak foundation with.th. FG-◇fiber distribution.Eventually,th. obtained analysis results of BFRC beams are also compared with.th.se for carbon nanotube reinforced composite(CNTRC)beams found in th. literature,indicating th.t th. buckling loads and natural frequencies of BFRC beams are lower th.n th.se of CNTRC beams.

Objective:Th. aim of th.s study was to review findings from a large prospective national database of ch.mosensory disturbances associated with.coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)infection.Data Sources:Th. Virginia Commonwealth.University Smell and Taste Center national database of COVID-19 ch.mosensory disturbances.meth.ds:A series of online surveys,first opened on April 10,2020,was made accessible nationwide to any adult with.sudden ch.mosensory dysfunction since January 2020.Participants received subsequent follow-up surveys 14 days,1 month.3 month.,and 6 month. after enrollment.An additional survey was sent to all participants on may 28,2022 to assess long-term outcomes.Information pertaining to demograph.cs,symptoms,comorbidities,treatments,and life impact was collected.Results:Of 363 participants wh. reported complete smell recovery,51.2%recovered with.n 1 month.70%with.n 3 month.,and 79%with.n 6 month.,wh.le 8.8%took over 1 year to completely recover.Among all participants,7.5%h.d no smell recovery.Positive predictors of recovery included agemale gender,and th. presence of nasal congestion.Negative predictors included difficulty breath.ng and prior h.ad injury.many participants reported a decrease in quality of life and th. presence of potential safety h.zards associated with.decreased smell loss.Conclusions:most subjects with.COVID-19-related ch.mosensory dysfunction recover,with.th. majority noting complete recovery with.n weeks of infection.Th.se aged over 40 years and female gender were associated with.lower rates of recovery.A considerable number of participants reported significant impact on quality of life and safety.

With.th. development of imaging tech.ology，more and more magnetic resonance imaging （mRI） tech.iques h.ve been applied to th. study of th. glial lymph.tic system of th. h.man brain. Intra-tumor h.terogeneity is now arguably one of th. most-studied topics in tumor biology,as it represents a major obstacle to effective cancer treatment.Since tumor cells are h.gh.y diverse at genetic,epigenetic,and ph.notypic levels,intra-tumor h.terogeneity can be assumed as an important contributing factor to th. nullification of ch.moth.rapeutic effects,and recurrence of th. tumor.Based on th. role of h.terogeneous subpopulations of cancer cells with.varying cell-cycle dynamics and beh.vior during cancer progression and treatment;h.rein,we aim to establish.a compreh.nsive definition for adaptation of neoplastic cells against th.rapy.We discuss two parallel and yet distinct subpopulations of tumor cells th.t play pivotal roles in reducing th. effects of ch.moth.rapy:"resistant"and"tolerant"popula-tions.Furth.rmore,th.s review also h.gh.igh.s th. impact of th. quiescent ph.se of th. cell cycle as a survival mech.nism for cancer cells.Beyond understanding th. mech.nisms under-lying th. quiescence,it provides an insigh.ful perspective on cancer stem cells(CsCs)and th.ir dual and intertwined functions based on th.ir cell cycle state in response to treatment.more-over,CSCs,epith.lial-mesench.mal transformed cells,circulating tumor cells(CTCs),and disseminated tumor cells(DTCs),wh.ch.are mostly in a quiescent state of th. cell cycle are proved to h.ve multiple biological links and can be implicated in our viewpoint of cell cycle h.terogeneity in tumors.Overall,increasing our knowledge of cell cycle h.terogeneity is a key to identifying new th.rapeutic solutions,and th.s emerging concept may provide us with.new opportunities to prevent th. dreadful cancer recurrence.

Five perovskite ceramics samples of Ba_(1-x)Er_(x)SnO_(3) with.x=0.00,0.05,0.10,0.15,and 0.20 were synth.sized using th. conventional solid-state reaction meth.d.Th. prepared samples were ch.racterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transforms infrared(FTIR),and UV-Vis spectroscopy.Th. sh.elding properties against ionizing radiation were also investigated.Th. XRD analysis sh.ws th. perovskite cubic structure as th. major ph.se in all samples.Th. FTIR reveals a distinctive band around 614-620 cm^(-1) ascribed to th. antisymmetric O-Sn-O vibration.UV-Vis spectroscopy was used to determine th. bandgap according to diffuse reflectance,and th. results display a fixed enh.ncement in th. bandgap from 3.2 to 3.3 eV for all samples.Gamma-ray sh.elding properties of th. synth.sized samples were experimentally measured and compared with.XCOm computational results.Th. relative differences(Δ,%)between experimental and th.o retical values are low and fall with.n th. 0.446%-7.10%range.Th. addition of Er leads to th. enh.nced density,neutron,and gamma sh.elding features.In contrast,ch.rged particles’sh.elding parameters gradually reduce with.rising Er contents.Th.se results suggest th.t Ba_(1-x)Er_(x)SnO_(3) samples can be used in different radiation sh.elding applications.

Th.s paper th.oretically studies th. impurity states and th. effects of impurity concentration and configuration on th. optical,electrical,and statistical properties of CdSe nanoplatelets(NPLs).An image ch.rge-based model of electron-impurity interaction is proposed.Th. ch.rge-carrier energy spectra and corresponding wave functions depending on th. impurity number and configuration are calculated.Th. electron binding energies are calculated for different NPL th.cknesses.It is sh.wn th.t th. image ch.rge-based interaction potential th.t arises due to th. dielectric constants mismatch.is much.stronger th.n th. interaction potential th.t does not take such.a mismatch.into account.Also,it is demonstrated th.t th. binding energies are increasing with.th. number of impurities.We calculate th. canonical partition function using th. energy levels of th. electron,wh.ch.in turn is used to obtain th. mean energy,h.at capacity,and entropy of th. non-interacting electron gas.Th. th.rmodynamic properties of th. non-interacting electron gas th.t depend on th. geometric parameters of th. NPL,impurity number,configuration,and temperature are studied.

metabolic flexibility h.s emerged as a critical determinant of CD8+T-cell antitumor activity,yet th. mech.nisms driving th. metabolic flexibility of T cells h.ve not been determined.In th.s study,we investigated th. influence of th. nuclear cap-binding complex(CBC)adaptor protein ARS2 on mature T cells.In doing so,we discovered a novel signaling axis th.t endows activated CD8+T cells with.flexibility of glucose catabolism.ARS2 upregulation driven by CD28 signaling reinforced splicing factor recruitment to pre-mRNAs and affected approximately one-th.rd of T-cell activation-induced alternative splicing events.Among th.se effects,th. CD28-ARS2 axis suppressed th. expression of th. m1 isoform of pyruvate kinase in favor of PKm2,a key determinant of CD8+T-cell glucose utilization,interferon gamma production,and antitumor effector function.Importantly,PKm alternative splicing occurred independently of CD28-driven PI3K path.ay activation,revealing a novel means by wh.ch.costimulation reprograms glucose metabolism in CD8+T cells.

h.lf-metallic ferromagnetism,mech.nical as well as th.rmoelectric properties for rare earth.based spinels mgh._(2)Z_(4)(Z=S,Se)were investigated using density functional th.ory(DFT).Structural optimization was done with.Perdew-Burke-Eh.enzorf(PBE)sol-generalized gradient approximation(GGA)to calculate th. lattice constant of both.spinels comparable to experimental data.In addition,Born stability criteria and negative formation energy sh.w th.t our studied spinels are also structurally and dynamically stable in th. cubic ph.se.For ferromagnetic(Fm)state stability,we also calculated th. energy differences among Fm,antiferromagnetic(AFm),and non-magnetic(Nm)states.Additionally,Curie temperatures of ferromagnetic ph.ses were also estimated.We used Trans-Blah. improved BeckeJoh.son(TB-mBJ)potential functional for electronics as well as magnetic ch.racteristics,wh.ch.lead to th. consistent explanation of h.lf-metallic ferromagnetism,representing th. wh.le band-occupancy in material with.exact detail of density of states(DOS).Th. stable Fm state was examined in spinels due to th. exch.nge splitting of h. cation consisting of p-d h.bridizations compatible with.th. result ach.eved for electronics band structure and DOS.Furth.r,spin magnetic moment was explained in terms of anion,cation,and sh.ring ch.rge on studied spinels.In addition,th. calculated th.rmoelectric properties clearly sh.w th.t operation range of th.se systems may be utilized by future experimental works for identifying th. potential applications of th.se systems.

h.licobacter pylori(h.pylori)infection is a th.eat to h.man h.alth.Th. lipopolysacch.ride(LPS)O-antigen h.lds promise for developing vaccines.It is meaningful to explore th. immunological activity of oligosacch.rides with.different length. and framesh.fts for antigen development.h.rein,a glycan library of h.pylori O2 O-antigen containing eigh. fragments is constructed.After screening with.anti-h.pylori O2 LPS sera and patients’sera by glycan microarray,th. disacch.ride h.O2G-2b and trisacch.ride h.O2G-3a sh.w strong antigenicity and th.n are separately conjugated with.carrier protein CRm197.Both.glycoconjugates elicit a robust immunoglobulin G(IgG)immune response in rabbits.Th. anti-h.O2G-3a IgG antibodies possess a much.stronger binding affinity with.th. LPS and bacteria of h.pylori O2 th.n th. anti-h.O2G-2b IgG antibodies.Th.re is no cross-reaction between both.sera IgG antibodies with.LPS and bacteria of h.pylori O1,O6,and E.coli.Th. results demonstrate th. trisacch.ride h.O2G-3a is a promising candidate for h.pylori vaccine development.

Element and mineral Ch.racteristics of Tailings in th. Porph.ry-Type Iron Deposit from Ningwu Basin

Th. porph.rite-type iron deposit in Ningwu Basin is an important source of iron resources in Ch.na, and th. premise for th. efficient and compreh.nsive utilization of its complex tailings is a th.rough.understanding of th.ir mineral processing ch.racteristics. In order to provide a reference for th. compreh.nsive utilization of porph.rite-type iron deposit tailings in Ningwu Basin, th. process mineralogy ch.racteristics were explored by using th. combined meth.ds of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-mS), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and TESCAN integrated mineral analyzer (TImA). Th. results sh.w th.t th. tailings are composed of mainly Si, Fe and Al. Th. mineral compositions are mainly albite, h.matite, magnetite and quartz. Silicon mainly occurs in quartz and albite, wh.reas Fe mainly occurs in h.matite/magnetite. Th. tailings h.ve a fine particle size and low mineral liberation degree. Compared to oth.r types of iron deposit tailings in Ch.na, th.se tailings are ch.racterized by a h.gh.content of Al and a relatively h.gh.proportion of pyrite. © 2024 Science Ch.na Press.
