The influence of global warming on tropical cyclone(TC) intensity has been discussed extensively over the past decade and downscaling studies have been conducted by embedding high-resolution regional models in the large-scale environment derived from global warming experiments in previous *** theoretical models for TC movement and intensity,this downscaling study examines the impact of global warming on TC intensity in the western North Pacific basin with attention to the selection of climate models for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) fourth assessment *** contributions of SST,vertical wind shear and TC track change to TC intensity change are also *** synthetic TC activity in the study is simulated with motion and intensity models,respectively,while little change is assumed in TC formation due to uncertain predictions of regional changes in future TC *** downscaling models are first evaluated against the observations during 1965-1999,and then ten IPCC models are selected based on the TC intensity downscaled with the large-scale environments from their control *** an increase of 1.6-3.5 K in SST over the period 2.65-2.99,the TC peak intensity and the number of intense TCs are projected to increase by 14% and 66%,respectively,in agreement with previous *** is to say,it is likely that intense TC numbers in this region will increase in a warmer world unless the future TC frequency decreases considerable in the western North Pacific *** SST warming plays a dominant role in affecting TC intensity in most of the climate models,this study suggests that changes in vertical wind shear and prevailing tracks can have significant influence on TC intensity change,sometimes comparable to or even larger than the SST ***,changes in TC track and in vertical wind shear do not have the same systematic effect on TC intensity changes as SST does,increasing the uncertainty of the projection

Increasing tropical cyclone（TC） influence in the subtropical East Asia and decreasing TC activity in the South china Sea over the past decades have been previously *** singular value decomposition（SVD） of observational data and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change（IPCC） climate change simulations in the fourth assessment report shows that the observed TC track changes are linked to the leading SVD mode of global sea surface temperature（SST） warming and the associated changes in large-scale steering *** selected five IPCC models can generally simulate the leading mode in their ensemble control run and prediction,suggesting the possible persistence of the reported track changes by 2.40.

Measurements studies have shown that the absorption of radiation by black carbon(BC)increases as the particles ***,there are significant discrepancies between the measured and modeled absorption enhancement(E_(abs)),largely due to the simplifications used in modeling the mixing states and shape *** took advantage of chamber experiments on BC aging and developed an efficient method to resolve the particle shape based on the relationship between the coating fraction(ΔD_(ve)/D_(ve),0)and fractal dimension(D_(f)),which can also reflect the variations of D_(f)during the whole BC aging *** with externally and partly mixed states(0≤ΔD_(ve)/D_(ve),0≤0.5)can be considered to be uniformly distributed with the D_(f)values of 1.8–2.1,whereas the Df values are constrained in the range 2.2.2.8 for fully mixed states(ΔD_(ve)/D_(ve),0>0.5).The morphological parameters(i.e.,the effective density and the dynamic shape factor)were compared with the measured values to verify the simulated *** simulated mean deviations of morphological parameters were smaller than 8%for the method resolving the particle *** applying a realistic shape and refractive index,the mass absorption cross for fully mixed states can be improved by 11%compared with a simplified core–shell *** on our understanding of the influence of D_(f)andΔD_(ve)/D_(ve),0 on E_(abs),we propose a two-stage calibration equation to correct the E_(abs)values estimated by the core–shell model,which reduces the simulation error in the Mie calculation by 6%–14%.

2.wuNet: small window SWin UNet based on tansformer for building extraction from high-resolution remote sensing images

Models dedicated to building long-range dependencies often exhibit degraded performance when transferred to remote sensing images. Vision transformer(Vi T) is a new paradigm in computer vision that uses multi-head self-attention(MSA) rather than convolution as the main computational module, with global modeling capabilities. However, its performance on small datasets is usually far inferior to that of convolutional neural networks(CNNs). In this work, we propose a small window SWin UNet(2.wuNet) for building extraction from high-resolution remote sensing images. Firstly, the 2.wuNet is trained based on swin transformer by designing a fully symmetric encoder-decoder U-shaped architecture. Secondly, to construct a reasonable U-shaped architecture for building extraction from high-resolution remote sensing images, different forms of patch expansion are explored to simulate up-sampling operations and recover feature map resolution. Then, the small window-based multi-head self-attention(W-MSA) is designed to reduce the computational and memory burden, which is more appropriate for the features of remote sensing images. Meanwhile, the pre-training mechanism is advanced to make up for the lack of decoder parameters. Finally, comparison experiments with other mainstream CNNs and Vi Ts validate the superiority of the proposed model.

Ion exchange is a promising synthetic method for alleviating severe cation mixing in traditional layered oxide materials for lithium-ion batteries,leading to enhanced structural ***,the underlying mechanisms of ion exchange are still not fully *** a fundamental study of the ion-exchange mechanism is needed for achieving the controllable synthesis of layered oxides with a stable ***,we thoroughly unearth the underlying mechanism that triggers the ion exchange of Ni-rich materials in aqueous solutions by examining time-resolved structural evolution combined with theoretical *** results reveal that the reaction pathway of ion exchange can be divided into two steps:protonation and *** proton is the key to achieving charge balance in the ion exchange process,as revealed by X-ray adsorption spectroscopy and inductive coupled plasma *** addition,the intermediate product shows high lattice distortion during ion exchange,but it ends up with a most stable product with high lattice *** apparent discrepancies in lattice energy between materials before and after ion exchange emphasize the importance of synthetic design in structural *** work provides new insights into the ion-exchange synthesis of Ni-rich oxide materials,which advances the development of cathode materials for high-performance lithium-ion batteries.

Verification of Seasonal Prediction by the Upgraded china Multi-Model Ensemble Prediction System(CMMEv2.0)

Based on a combination of six Chinese climate models and three international operational models, the china multimodel ensemble (CMME) prediction system has been upgraded into its version 2.(CMMEv2.0) at the National Climate Centre (NCC) of the china {2. Administration (CMA) by including new model members and expanding prediction products. A comprehensive assessment of the performance of the upgraded CMME during its hindcast (1993–2.16) and real-time prediction (2.2.–present) periods is conducted in this study. The results demonstrate that CMMEv2.0 outperforms all the individual models by capturing more realistic equatorial sea surface temperature (SST) variability. It exhibits better prediction skills for precipitation and 2.m temperature anomalies, and the improvements in prediction skill of CMMEv2.0 are significant over East Asia. The superiority of CMMEv2.0 can be attributed to its better projection of El Ni?o–Southern Oscillation (ENSO; with the temporal correlation coefficient score for Ni?o3.4 index reaching 0.87 at 6-month lead) and ENSO-related teleconnections. As for the real-time prediction in recent three years, CMMEv2.0 has also yielded relatively stable skills; it successfully predicted the primary rainbelt over northern china in summers of 2.2.–2.2. and the warm conditions in winters of 2.2./2.2.. Beyond that, ensemble sampling experiments indicate that the CMMEv2.0 skills become saturated after the ensemble model number increased to 5–6, indicating that selection of only an optimal subgroup of ensemble models could benefit the prediction performance, especially over the extratropics, yet the underlying reasons await future investigation.

Influence of Future Tropical Cyclone Track Changes on Their Basin-Wide Intensity over the Western North Pacific: Downscaled CMIP5 Projections

The possible changes of tropical cyclone（TC） tracks and their influence on the future basin-wide intensity of TCs over the western North Pacific（WNP） are examined based on the projected large-scale environments derived from a selection of CMIP5（Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5） models. Specific attention is paid to the performance of the CMIP5 climate models in simulating the large-scale environment for TC development over the WNP. A downscaling system including individual models for simulating the TC track and intensity is used to select the CMIP5 models and to simulate the TC activity in the *** assessment of the future track and intensity changes of TCs is based on the projected large-scale environment in the2. st century from a selection of nine CMIP5 climate models under the Representative Concentration Pathway 4.5（RCP4.5）scenario. Due to changes in mean steering flows, the influence of TCs over the South china Sea area is projected to decrease,with an increasing number of TCs taking a northwestward track. Changes in prevailing tracks and their contribution to basin-wide intensity change show considerable inter-model variability. The influences of changes in prevailing track make a marked contribution to TC intensity change in some models, tending to counteract the effect of SST warming. This study suggests that attention should be paid to the simulated large-scale environment when assessing the future changes in regional TC activity based on climate models. In addition, the change in prevailing tracks should be considered when assessing future TC intensity change.
