Serum triglycerides concentration in relation to total and cardiovascular mortality in an elderly Chinese population

OBJECTIVE To investigate serum triglycerides in relation to all-cause,cardiovascular,and non-cardiovascular mortality in an elderly Chinese *** The study participants(n=3565)were elderly(≥60 years)community dwellers living in a suburban town of *** was defined as a serum triglycerides concentration≥2.30 mmol/L(definite)and≥1.70 mmol/L(borderline),*** The prevalence of definite and borderline hypertriglyceridemia at baseline was 7.5%and 29.5%,*** was higher in women(n=1982,9.0%and 33.8%,respectively)than men(n=1583,6.2%and 27.9%,respectively),in obese and over-weight participants(n=1566,10.5%and 36.4%,respectively)than normal weight participants(n=1999,5.6%and 27.1%,respect-ively),and in diabetic participants(n=177,11.9%and 39.0%,respectively)than non-diabetic participants(n=3388,7.5%and 30.8%,respectively).During a median of 7.9 years follow-up,all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular deaths occurred in 529,216 and 313 participants,*** analyses according to the quintile distributions of serum triglycerides concentration,the sex-and age-standardized mortality rate was lowest in the middle quintile for all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascu-lar mortality(18.6,7.8 and 11.9 per 1000 person-years,respectively,versus 21.5,10.5 and 12.7 per 1000 person-years,respectively,in the two lower quintiles and 21.7,9.5 and 14.0 per 1000 person-years,respectively,in the two higher quintiles).The fully adjus-ted hazard ratios(95%CI)for the middle quintile versus the combined two lower with two higher quintiles were 0.85(95%CI:0.67-1.07,P=0.17),0.81(95%CI:0.54-1.19,P=0.28)and 0.87(95%CI:0.64-1.17,P=0.35)for all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular mortality,*** Our study showed high prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia,especially when defined as borderline and in obese and overweight participants,and mildly but non-significantly elevated risks of cardiovascular mort

OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between current and former smoking and the risk of mortality in elderly Chinese *** Our study participants were elderly(≥60 years)men recruited in a suburban town of *** smoking status was categorized as never smoking,remote(cessation>5 years)and recent former smoking(cessation≤5 years),and light-to-moderate(≤20 cigarettes/day)and heavy current smoking(>20 cigarettes/day).Cox proportional hazards models and restricted cubic splines were used to examine the associations of *** The 1568 participants had a mean age of 68.6±7.1 *** all participants,311 were never smokers,201 were remote former smokers,133 were recent former smokers,783 were light-to-moderate current smokers and 140 were heavy current *** a median follow-up of 7.9 years,all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular deaths occurred in 267,106 and 161 participants,*** current smokers had the highest risk of all-cause and non-cardiovascular mortality,with an adjusted hazard ratio(HR)of 2.30(95%CI:1.34-4.07)and 3.98(95%CI:2.03-7.83)versus never smokers,*** former smokers also had a higher risk of all-cause(HR=1.62,95%CI:1.04-2.52)and non-cardiovascular mortality(HR=2.40,95%CI:1.32-4.37)than never *** regression restricted cubic spline models showed the highest risk of all-cause and non-cardiovascular mortality within 5 years of smoking cessation and decline *** subgroup analyses showed interaction between smoking status and pulse rate(≥70 beats/min vs.<70 beats/min)in relation to the risk of all-cause and non-cardiovascular mortality,with a higher risk in current versus never smokers in those participants with a pulse rate below 70 beats/*** Cigarette smoking in elderly Chinese confers significant risks of mortality,especially when recent former smoking is considered together with current smoking.

Polymeric microwave actuators combining tissue-like softness with programmablemicrowave-responsive deformation hold great promise for mobile intelligentdevices and bionic soft robots. However, their application is challenged by restricted electromagneticsensitivity and intricate sensing coupling. In this study, a sensitized polymericmicrowave actuator is fabricated by hybridizing a liquid crystal polymer with Ti3C2Tx(MXene). Compared to the initial counterpart, the hybrid polymer exhibits unique spacechargepolarization and interfacial polarization, resulting in significant improvements of230% in the dielectric loss factor and 830% in the apparent efficiency of electromagneticenergy harvest. The sensitized microwave actuation demonstrates as the shortenedresponse time of nearly 10 s, which is merely 13% of that for the initial shape memory polymer. Moreover, the ultra-low content of MXene (upto 0.15 wt%) benefits for maintaining the actuation potential of the hybrid polymer. An innovative self-powered sensing prototype that combinesdriving and piezoelectric polymers is developed, which generates real-time electric potential feedback (open-circuit potential of ~ 3 mV) duringactuation. The polarization-dominant energy conversion mechanism observed in the MXene-polymer hybrid structure furnishes a new approachfor developing efficient electromagnetic dissipative structures and shows potential for advancing polymeric electromagnetic intelligent devices.

BACKGROUND Alcohol consumption is a known modifiable risk factor for atrial *** association,however,might differ according to *** investigated gender-specific associations between alcohol consumption and incident atrial fibrillation in an elderly Chinese *** Our study participants were elderly residents(≥65 years)recruited from five community health centers in the urban area of Shanghai(n=6,618).Alcohol intake was classified as never drinkers and current light-to-moderate(<40 g/day)and heavy drinkers(≥40 g/day).Atrial fibrillation was detected by a 30-s single-lead electrocardiography(ECG,AliveCor®Heart Monitor)and further evaluated with a regular 12-lead *** During a median of 2.1 years(interquartile range:2.0−2.2)follow-up,the incidence rate of atrial fibrillation was 1.10%in all study *** was slightly but non-significantly higher in men(n=2849)than women(n=3769,1.30%vs.0.96%,P=0.19)and in current drinkers(n=793)than never drinkers(n=5825,1.64%vs.1.03%,P=0.12).In both unadjusted and adjusted analyses,there was interaction between sex and current alcohol intake in relation to the incidence of atrial fibrillation(P<0.0001).After adjustment for confounding factors,current drinkers had a significantly higher incidence rate of atrial fibrillation than never drinkers in women(12.96%[7/54]vs.0.78%[29/3715],adjusted odds ratio[OR]=10.25,95%confidence interval[CI]:3.54−29.67,P<0.0001),but not in men(0.81%[6/739]vs.1.47%[31/2110],OR=0.62,95%CI:0.25−1.51,P=0.29).CONCLUSIONS Our study showed a significant association between alcohol intake and the incidence of atrial fibrillation in elderly Chinese women,but not men.

为研究不同负压对铝镁贫氧推进剂的点火及燃烧特性的影响,在负压环境下(0.01,0.02,0.04,0.06,0.08,0.1 MPa)和不同热流下(1.26,1.86,2.23,2.79 W·mm^(-2))采用CO_2激光点火系统对铝镁贫氧推进剂进行点火实验,使用高速摄影仪记录点火燃烧过程,使用两个光电二极管同时监测激光和火焰信号得到其点火延迟时间,研究了负压对推进剂点火延迟时间、燃烧过程和燃速的影响。结果表明,压强影响推进剂热解气体的扩散,压强为0.08 MPa时,初焰为圆柱状,随着压强降低至0.02 MPa,初焰为圆球状;随着压强的降低,推进剂点火延迟时间增加,但随着热流密度的增大,压强对点火延迟时间的影响显著降低;压强对推进剂燃速影响较大,随着压强的降低,推进剂燃速降低,当压强从0.1 MPa降至0.01 MPa时,燃速降低47%;同时,在负压环境下,Vielle燃速公式更适用于表征铝镁贫氧推进剂的燃速特性。

Tumor recurrence, the Gordian knot of liver transplantation for malignancies, may be attributed to many parameters. The technique of the “classical” recipient hepatectomy is believed to be one of the potential reasons to cause tumor evasion because of the possible increase of circulating tumor cells, thus leading to an increased recurrent rate. On this background, the no-touch oncological recipient hepatectomy technique has been developed. A comprehensive review of the development and the key surgical steps of the no-touch recipient hepatectomy is presented. This technique might improve clinical outcomes, especially for those recipients who are at a high risk for tumor recurrence. Multicenter prospective studies should be set up to further validate the prognostic role of this technique in patients with liver cancer treated with liver transplantation.

Uranium–molybdenum(U–Mo) alloys are critical for nuclear power generation and propulsion because of their superior thermal conductivity, irradiation stability, and anti-swelling properties. This study explores the plastic deformation mechanisms of γ-phase U–Mo alloys using molecular dynamics(MD) simulations. In the slip model, the generalized stacking fault energy(GSFE) and the modified Peierls–Nabarro(P–N) model are used to determine the competitive relationships among different slip systems. In the twinning model, the generalized plane fault energy(GPFE) is assessed to evaluate the competition between slip and twinning. The findings reveal that among the three slip systems, the {110}slip system is preferentially activated, while in the {112} system, twinning is favored over slip, as confirmed by MD tensile simulations conducted in various directions. Additionally, the impact of Mo content on deformation behavior is emphasized. Insights are provided for optimizing process conditions to avoid γ → α′′ transitions, thereby maintaining a higher proportion of γ-phase U–Mo alloys for practical applications.

利用差示扫描量热计测定了乙二醇、丙二醇、丁二醇和叔丁醇在不同温度范围内的比热.为了验证仪器的准确性,实验测定二次蒸馏水在20～80℃的比热,并与文献值进行了对比.测定水时仪器测量误差在2%以内,并且把测得的各种醇的比热与文献值进行了对比,比热测量值的精度完全能满足工程计算的要求.同时回归出了它们的Cp随温度的变化关系,可供工程计算中参考.
