Epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)is reportedly overexpressed in most esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)patients,but anti-EGFR treatments offer limited survival *** preclinical data showed the promising antitumor activity of afatinib in EGFR-overexpressing *** proof-of-concept,phase II trial assessed the efficacy and safety of afatinib in pretreated metastatic ESCC patients(n=41)with EGFR overexpression(NCT03940976).The study met its primary endpoint,with a confirmed objective response rate(ORR)of 39%in 38 efficacy-evaluable patients and a median overall survival of 7.8 months,with a manageable toxicity *** analysis of pretreatment tumors revealed that neurotrophic receptor tyrosine kinase 2(NTRK2)was negatively associated with afatinib sensitivity and might serve as a predictive biomarker,irrespective of EGFR ***,knocking down or inhibiting NTRK2 sensitized ESCC cells to afatinib *** study provides novel findings on the molecular factors underlying afatinib resistance and indicates that afatinib has the potential to become an important treatment for metastatic ESCC patients.

Realization of orientation interpolation of 6-axis articulated robot using quaternion

In general, the orientation interpolation of industrial robots has been done based on Euler angle system which can result in singular point （so-called Gimbal Lock）. However, quaternion interpolation has the advantage of natural （specifically smooth） orientation interpolation without Gimbal Lock. This work presents the application of quatemion interpolation, specifically Spherical Linear IntERPolation （SLERP）, to the orientation control of the 6-axis articulated robot （RS2） using LabVIEW and RecurDyn. For the comparison of SLERP with linear Euler interpolation in the view of smooth movement （profile） of joint angles （torques）, the two methods are dynamically simulated on RS2 by using both LabVIEW and RecurDyn. Finally, our original work, specifically the implementation of SLERP and linear Euler interpolation on the actual robot, i.e. RS2, is done using LabVIEW motion control tool kit. The SLERP orientation control is shown to be effective in terms of smooth joint motion and torque when compared to a conventional （linear） Euler interpolation.

Acute transient hepatocellular injury in cholelithiasis and cholecystitis without evidence of choledocholithiasis

AIM： To investigate acute transient hepatocellular injury in patients with cholelithiasis and cholecystitis but no evidence of choledocholithiasis.METHODS： The medical records of patients with cholelithiasis who underwent cholecystectomy between July 2003 and June 2007 were retrospectively reviewed. Imaging studies to detect common bile duct （CBD） stones were performed in 186 patients, who constituted the study population. Biochemical liver tests before and after surgery, and with the presence or absence of CBD stones were analyzed.RESULTS： In 96 patients with cholelithiasis and cholecystitis without evidence of CBD stones, 49 （51.0%） had an alanine aminotransferase level elevated to 2-3 times the upper limit of normal, and 40 （41.2%） had an elevated aspartate aminotransferase level. Similar manifestations of hepatocellular injury were, as would be expected, even more obvious in the 90 patients with CBD stones. These markers of hepatocellular injury resolved almost completely within 2 wk to 1 mo after cholecystectomy. Compared to 59 patients with histologically less severe cholecystitisin the group undergoing urgent surgery （total 74 patients）, the 15 patients with a gangrenous gallbladder had a higher mean level of total bilirubin （2.14 ± 1.27 mg/dL vs 2.66 ± 2.97 mg/dL, P 〈 0.001） and white cell count （9480 ± 4681/μL vs 12840 ± 5273/μL, P = 0.018）.CONCLUSION： Acute hepatocellular injury in cholelithiasis and cholecystitis without choledocholithiasis is mild and transient. Hyperbilirubinemia and leukocytosis may predict severe inflammatory changes in the gallbladder.

Manipulating metal-oxygen local atomic structures in singlejunctional p-Si/WO_(3) photocathodes for efficient solar hydrogen generation

Self-passivation in aqueous solution and sluggish surface reaction kinetics significantly limit the photoelectrochemical(PEC)performances of silicon-based ***,a WO_(3) thin layer is deposited on the p-Si substrate by pulsed laser deposition(PLD),acting as a photocathode for PEC hydrogen *** to bare p-Si,the single-junctional p-Si/WO_(3) photoelectrodes exhibit excellent and stable PEC performances with significantly increased cathodic photocurrent density and exceptional anodic shift in onset potential for water *** is revealed that the WO_(3) layer could reduce the charge transfer resistance across the electrode/electrolyte interface by eliminating the effect of Fermi level pinning on the surface of *** importantly,by varying the oxygen pressures during PLD,the collaborative modulation of W–O bond covalency and WO6 octahedral structure symmetry contributes to the promoted charge carrier transport and ***,a large band bending at the p-Si/WO_(3) junction,induced by the optimized O vacancy contents in WO_(3),could provide a photovoltage as high as~500 mV to efficiently drive charge transfer to overcome the water reduction ***,by manipulating W–O local atomic structures in the deposited WO_(3) layer,a great improvement in PEC performance could be achieved over the singlejunctional p-Si/WO_(3) photocathodes for solar hydrogen generation.

New approaches to water purification for resource- constrained settings： Production of activated biochar by chemical activation with diammonium hydrogenphosphate

A significant portion of the world＇s population does not have access to safe drinking water. This problem is most acute in remote, resource-constrained rural settings in developing countries. Water filtration using activated carbon is one of the important steps in treating con- taminated water. Lignocellulosic biomass is generally available in abundance in such locations, such as the African rain forests. Our work is focused on developing a simple method to synthesize activated biochar from locally available materials. The preparation of activated biochar with diammonium hydrogenphosphate （DAP） as the activating agent is explored under N2 flow and air. The study, carried out with cellulose as a model biomass, provides some insight into the interaction between DAP and biomass, as well as the char forming mechanism. Various characterization techniques such as N2 physisorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy are utilized to compare the properties between biochar formed under nitrogen and partial oxidative conditions. At a temperature of 450 ℃, the loading of DAP over cellulose is systematically varied, and its effect on activation is examined. The activated biochar samples are predominantly microporous in the range of concentrations studied. The interaction of DAP with cellulose is investigated and the nature of bonding of the heteroatoms to the carbonaceous matrix is elucidated. The results indicate that the quality of biochar prepared under partial oxidation condition is comparable to that ofbiochar prepared under nitrogen, leading to the possibility of an activated biochar production scheme on a small scale in resource-constrained settings.

Nitrogen electro-reduction reaction(NERR)is a promising alternative method for ammonia production to the Haber-Bosch approach due to mild reaction conditions and free harmful by-product emission.A formidable challenge in bringing NERR closer to the practical application is developing an electrocatalyst which can simultaneously improve the Faraday efficiency and reduce the reaction ***,we fabricated a catalyst of nitrogen-doped carbon dots modified copper-phosphate nanoflower petals(Cu Po-NCDs NF)via a self-assembly *** flower structure endowed the Cu Po-NCDs NF with large specific surface area,and thus enabled more active sites to be *** particular,we demonstrated that the NCDs modified Cu Po petals with flower-like structure can accelerate the interfacial proton-electron transfer,suppressing the competing hydrogen evolution reaction and promoting the desired NERR ***,for the CuPo-NCDs NF catalyzed NERR,the FE_(NH_(3))and the reaction potential both were boosted,the resultant energy efficiency of NERR reached a record-breaking value of 56.5%,and the NH_(3)yield rate increased by 7 times compared to *** study provides a novel catalyst with a new pathway to boost the NERR.

AIM:To retrospectively establish the diagnostic criteria of gallstone ileus on CT, and to prospectively apply these criteria to determine the diagnostic accuracy of CT to confirm or exclude gallstone ileus in patients who presented with acute small bowel obstruction (SBO). Another purpose was to ascertain whether the size of ectopic gallstones would affect treatment strategy. METHODS: Fourteen CT scans in cases of proved gallstone ileus were evaluated retrospectively by two radiologists for the presence or absence of previously reported CT findings to establish the diagnostic criteria. These criteria were applied in a prospective contrast enhanced CT study of 165 patients with acute SBO, which included those 14 cases of gallstone ileus. The hard copy images of 165 CT studies were reviewed by a different group of two radiologists but without previous knowledge of the patient's final diagnosis. All CT data were further analyzed to determine the diagnostic accuracy of gallstone ileus when using CT in prospective evaluation of acute SBO. The size of ectopic gallstone on CT was correlated with the clinical course. RESULTS: The diagnostic criteria of gallstone ileus on CT were established retrospectively, which included: (1) SBO; (2) ectopic gallstone; either rim-calcified or total-calcified; (3) abnormal gall bladder with complete air collection, presence of air-fluid level, or fluid accumulation with irregular wall. Prospectively, CT confirmed the diagnosis in 13 cases of gallstone ileus with these three criteria. Only one false negative case could be identified. The remaining 151 patients are true negative cases and no false positive case could be disclosed. The overall sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of CT in diagnosing gallstone ileus were 93%, 100%; and 99%, respectively.
