Antimicrobial agents such as bavistin, cefotaxime and kanamycin were evaluated for their effects on the rapid shoot regeneration from nodal explants of Centella asiatica (L.). Filter sterilized bavistin (250 mg/L) was augmented alone and in combination with cytokinins such as BAP and TDZ into the media to trace the effect on regeneration. On this basis, the potential use of bavistin (150 mg/L) along with BAP (2.0 mg/L) was evaluated which showed the maximum shoot number (6.6) and shoot length (4.4 cm) respectively. Cefotaxime at the concentration of 100 μM/L was found to be effective to obtain the maximum shoot number formation (5.8) with the regeneration frequency (90%). Kanamycin at the concentration of 80 μM/L induced maximum shoot regeneration (5.12). Kanamycin at 100 μM/L or at higher concentrations reduced the shoot regeneration. The best rooting response was noticed when in vitro regenerated microshoots were transferred to the rooting medim which was supplemented with IBA (2.0 mg/L). This combination generates 90% of regeneration frequency and maximum number of roots per shoot (14.2) and high root length (4.2 cm). The rooted plants were acclimatized and transferred to field for survivalance. The addition of antibiotics was found to be more effective and safer for using since their effects on regeneration were found to be negligible.

In this present study, the effect of various carbon sources such as sucrose, glucose, fructose and maltose was investigated on in vitro shoot regeneration of Solanum viarum using axillary bud explants. The frequency, growth and multiplication rate were highly influenced by the type and concentration of carbon source used. Among the different concentrations (1%-6%) of carbohydrates studied, the maximum number of shoots (22.6 ± 0.50) and shoot length (5.92 ± 0.13 cm) was obtained on MS medium supplemented with 4% (w/v) fructose. The least number of shoots (1.5 ± 0.32) was obtained on 6% maltose and the least shoot length (1.2 ± 0.23) was observed on 6% glucose. Among the four types of carbon sources that were employed in the present study, fructose at 4% proved to be better choice for multiple shoot regeneration followed by sucrose, glucose and maltose from axillary bud explants of S. viarum.

The effects of bavistin, cefotoxime and kanamycin along with the ethylene inhibitor silver thiosulphate on in vitro regeneration using the axillary buds of Solanum viarum (D.) have been investigated. Axillary bud explants when cultured on MS medium supplemented with bavistin (100 mg/l) maximum number of shoots (4.21 ± 0.83) were observed. In a separate experiment, bavistin along with growth regulators such as BAP and TDZ was added to MS medium containing sucrose (3%). Maximum number of shoots was obtained (5.55 ± 0.28) in MS medium supplemented with bavistin (100 mg/l) and BAP (2.0 mg/l). Cefotoxime and kanamycin (10-150 μM/L) were added to MS medium supplemented with BAP (2.0 mg/l) with sucrose (3%) having shown the maximum shoot regeneration (4.38 ± 0.45 and 3.4 ± 0.48) at 80 μM/L and 50 μM/L respectively. Similarly the regeneration medium was supplemented with (5.0-100 μM/L) of STS. Maximum number of shoots (4.75 ± 0.43) was seen with 40 μM/L. These plantlets were further maintained for root emergence on a rooting medium supplemented with growth regulators such as (0.5-2.0 mg/l) IAA, IBA and NAA. In MS medium supplemented with IBA (1.0 mg/l), maximum number of roots (24.3 ± 0.31) was seen with 100% regeneration. The rooted plants were acclimatized and transferred to field plots with (95%) of plant surviving in the field.

Traditionally seismic design of structures supported on piled raft foundation is performed by considering fixed base conditions, while the pile head is also considered to be fixed for the design of the pile foundation. Major drawback of this assumption is that it cannot capture soil-foundation-structure interaction due to flexibility of soil or the inertial interaction involving heavy foundation masses. Previous studies on this subject addressed mainly the intricacy in modelling of dynamic soil structure interaction (DSSI) but not the implication of such interaction on the distribution of forces at various elements of the pile foundation and supported structure. A recent numerical study by the authors showed significant change in response at different elements of the piled raft supported structure when DSSI effects are considered. The present study is a limited attempt in this direction, and it examines such observations through shake table tests. The effect of DSSI is examined by comparing dynamic responses from fixed base scaled down model structures and the overall systems. This study indicates the possibility of significant underestimation in design forces for both the column and pile if designed under fixed base assumption. Such underestimation in the design forces may have serious implication in the design of a foundation or structural element.

In this paper,we present observations of free oscillations of the Earth after major earthquakes in Chile(February 27,2010,Mw8.8)and Japan(March 11,2011,Mw9.1)using data from the dual-sphere superconducting gravimeter(SG-055),installed at Badargadh(23°0.47 N,70°0.62 E),Kutch,Gujarat,India in March *** see the noise characteristics,we calculated the power spectral density of the gravity time series of 5 quiet days in the frequency band 0.05-20 mHz using the new low noise model(NLNM)as a *** compared the noise level of the Badargadh site to other SG sites around the *** shows that the Badargadh SG is in a low noise *** find that the noise increases at frequencies below 1 *** a characteristic is also observed in Djougou(Afrique,Benin)and Strasbourg(France).Using theoretical tides for Gujarat,we estimated a scale factor of about-814 nm/s~2/V for Gravl(lowersphere)and about-775 nm/s~2/V for Grav2(upper-sphere).We corrected the influence of atmospheric pressure from the one-second gravity data before switching to the frequency *** extracted a total of 53 Earth’s Free Oscillations(EFO)modes during the earthquake in Japan and about 47 EFO modes during the earthquake in *** are able to extract the lowest0S2spheroidal mode(0.30945 mHz or54 min)and0S0radial mode(0.81439 mHz or 20 min).The longer time series shows individual0S2singlets and0S3(0.46855 mHz)singlets due to the Coriolis splitting *** cross-referenced the frequencies of these modes using the PREM model and previous global *** correlation coefficient between the observed and the PREM model for these two events are 0.999 for Japan earthquake and 0.993 for Chile *** validates the quality of the data useful for low-frequency studies in *** also calculated the relative deviations of our observed fundamental modes with previously determined observed and theoretical *** found that the relative deviations of our observed free oscillations

Stress and emotion are associated with several illnesses from headaches to heart diseases and immune deficiencies to central nervous system. Terminalia arjuna has been referred as traditional Indian medicine for several ailments. The present study aimed to elucidate the effect of T. arjuna bark extract(TA) against picrotoxin-induced anxiety. Forty two male Balb/c mice were randomly divided into six experimental groups(n = 7): control, diazepam(1.5 mg·kg^(–1)), picrotoxin(1 mg·kg^(–1)) and three TA treatemt groups(25, 50, and 100 mg/kg). Behavioral paradigms and PCR studies were performed to determine the effect of TA against picrotoxin-induced anxiety. The results showed that TA supplementation increased locomotion towards open arm(EPM) and illuminated area(light-dark box test), and increased rearing frequency(open field test) in a dose dependent manner, compared to picrotoxin(P < 0.05). Furthermore, TA increased number of licks and shocks in Vogel's conflict. PCR studies showed an up-regulation of several genes, such as BDNF, IP_3, D_2L, CREB, GABAA, SOD, GPx, and GR in TA administered groups. In conclusion, alcoholic extract of TA bark showed protective activity against picrotoxin in mice by modulation of genes related to synaptic plasticity, neurotransmitters, and antioxidant enzymes.

A wireless sensor network is one of the networks that is highly demanding by various real-timenetworking applications nowadays. A huge amount of sensor nodes is deployed in the networkrandomly and distributed. Most of the applications using wireless sensor network (WSN) aresurveillance monitoring applications like a forest, home, healthcare, environment, and remotemonitoring systems. Based on the application usage, the type of sensor, a number of sensornodes are deployed in such a manner where the sensors can be used effectively. But the sensornodes are restricted in the battery and sensing region. Thus, the battery of the sensor nodesis decreased based on the nodes’ function. The energy level of the sensor nodes highly affectsthe network lifetime. Improving the energy efficiency in WSN is one of the most important challengingtasks. Most of the earlier research works have proposed various methods, techniques,and routing protocols, but they are application dependent and as a common method. So, thispaper is motivated to propose a Multi-Conditional Network Analysis (MCNA) framework for savingthe energy level of the sensor nodes by reducing energy consumption. TheMCNAframeworkinvolves two different clustering processes with cluster head selection, choosing the best nodesbased on the signal strength, and the best route for data transmission. The data transmissionis done by cluster based on source-destination based. The simulation results proved that theproposed MCNA framework outperforms the other existing methods.
